Connecting JNDI with Tomcat
Need help to conect a server application with Tomcat by JNDI
exactly what are you trying to do with jndi & tomcat?

Hi,
I'm fairly new to java and trying to setup apache jackrabbit using JNDI with tomcat. My problem is that my servlet receives a org.apache.jackrabbit.core.jndi.BindableRepository instead javax.jcr.Repository. It seems as if it doesn't matter what is written in my web.xml nor context.xml. Any tips is most appretiated (but I guess it s just my lack of knowledge that is causing the problem).

Problem in DBCP Connection Pooling with BLOB in Tomcat
Hi All,
I am using the DBCP connection pooling in tomcat server version 6.0.18.
I have session table which maintains the session details of the user in BLOB column. Recently I am facing a problem. When a user logs in, I am storing the session details in the DB. It throws an exception like this. When I restart the tomcat, it just works fine. But after some days it is again throwing the same exception.

This is not the issue at all. I can open the management studio by the same login id and password and also i can make the database jdbc connection from plain java file.
It does not give me any problem by them.

Connecting a j2me app with tomcat
I have created a J2ME application which connects to a web-server (servlets) and returns some data!! I dit it with the J2ME toolkit and tomcat and now i want to test in a real phone! So i got Siemens SL45i. How can i establish a connection with tomcat in my pc ? Can I somehow connect my phone and my pc with a cable or something?

There is no problem to visit pages that only show the result of searches... So the problem happend when i try to visit the pages that creates or updates a data base register...
What is the problem?! Is it possible to connect tomcat and oracleXE DB using ojdbc14.jar?!?

validationQuery - SQL query that can be used by the pool to validate connections before they are returned to the application. If specified, this query MUST be an SQL SELECT statement that returns at least one row.

Can' t connect Java with MySQL
My goal is to connect Java with MySQL. I found many solutions on Internet, but I always get the same mistake:
SQLException: No suitable driver
SQLState: 08001
VendorError: 0MySQL works fine alone or with php.Only thing left me to think is that the installed versions are not compatible for this mysql-connector-java-5.0.4
I don't believe that could be a reason.
Installed versions are:
Apache Tomcat 5.5.20 Server
Apache HTTP Server 2.2.4
PHP 5.2.0
MySQL 5.2

Old Oracle Session with Tomcat is not kiiling automatically
Hi,
I am facing a problem of increasing inactive oracle sessions with tomcat, Old Oracle sessions with tomcat are visible with new one.
if somebaody did not restarted tomcat gracefully, then does Oracle keep the session connected or is there any way that whenever any one restarted tomcat abnormally, Oracle session can be killed.
I had restart the database to kill session.Could you please tell me that where do i set this parameter in parameter file or sql net file and what is the recommended value, do you have any document on this.
Another thing tomcat is in other server machine and my database is in different server machine, killing process in tomcat server machine manually may not kill linux process on oracle database machine and therefore oracle sessions are still there.
Is it possible?

I've been using tomcat 5.0.27 and for quite sometime now using the connection pooling on tomcat as well.
I configure DataSource(no.of connections,username, password etc) by logging into tomcat admin console.
But what I've seen is it adds datasource configuration data into server.xml - including the username and password to the database(which will be supplied to the driver by the container when creating a connection). But I don't want the username and password to be present in the xml file (i.e. in clear text format). Is it possible to somehow give the password and the username when requesting for a connection i.e. datasource.getConnection and not while configuring the pool and still get it working?
Please guide me.

But an implication - the server might just decide to

the credentials only when getConnection is called in
your code - how will the server have those x
connections in the pool on startup?Probably won't It may wait to store the connections to the pool until x number of calls to the getConnection method are made (like a lazy initialization). But I don't know, just getting around to testing now.
I have people telling me that having uname/password to
the database in server.xml doesn't augur well for the
security of data in the db :(It could be true, but
1) The only people to see the server.xml are those who work on the server. The server.xml (or better the context.xml if you can avoid editing the server.xml altogether) is not accessable from the web.
2) My strategy was always to create many different levels of access to any particular database. Some with Read Only access and limited table viewability, and then progressively higher access. You give the server.xml only the access they absolutely need. IE, if they are just retrieving data from a couple tables, make a read-only user with the ability to see only those tables...
Don't take my word for it though. I have never really tried to do the whole ultra-secure thing, my apps are not important. -

Well, the first order of business is to determine exactly where main.jsp is located. If it is at <CATALINA_HOME>/webapps/main.jsp, then it should be at http://localhost:8080/main.jsp. Bypass Apache and verify that you can get to the Tomcat specific pages first.
Basically, we're trying to determine a) the correct URL and b) whether the problem is with Tomcat itself, or with the connections between Apache and Tomcat.
Essentially, we can't tell you where your configuration is incorrect until you tell us what your configuration is. :)
