Connecting Oracle Problem
I write some web services on .net. But in every
service i write, i could not able to connect to a
database. the connection strings i used r right and
working on windows applications. but whenever i try to
connect a database through a web sevice i cant. its
not opening.
the same thing is properlly working with SQL Server.
Solution :
Cause
Security permissions were not properly set when the Oracle 9i Release 2 client was installed on Windows with NTFS. The result of this is that content of the ORACLE_HOME directory is not visible to Authenticated Users on the machine; this again causes an error while the System.Data.OracleClient is communicating with the Oracle Connectivity software from an ASP.NET using Authenticated User privileges.
Solution
To fix the problem you have to give the Authenticated Users group privilege to the Oracle Home directory.
Log on to Windwos as a user with Administrator privileges.
Start Window Explorer and navigate to the ORACLE_HOME folder.
Choose properties on the ORACLE_HOME folder.
Click the âSecurityâ tab of the âPropertiesâ window.
Click on âAuthenticated Usersâ item in the âNameâ list.
Uncheck the âRead and Executeâ box in the âPermissionsâ list under the âAllowâ column.
Re-check the âRead and Executeâ box under the âAllowâ column
Click the âAdvancedâ button and in the âPermission Entriesâ verify that âAuthenticated Usersâ are listed with permission = âRead & Executeâ, and Apply To = âThis folder, subfolders and filesâ. If not, edit that line and make sure that âApply Toâ drop-down box is set to âThis folder, subfolders and filesâ. This should already be set properly but it is important that you verify it.
Click the âOkâ button until you close out all of the security properties windows. The cursor may present the hour glass for a few seconds as it applies the permissions you just changed to all subfolders and files.
Reboot, to assure that the changes have taken effect.
Try your application again.

Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.0 - Connection Pool Problem
Hi,
Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.0 is having connection pool problem. The no. of TCP connections to Oracle database keep increasing untill the server's session run out of limit. My application created connections, use them, close them, and dispose them properly. When using previous Oracle.DataAccess 2.111.6.20, the no. of TCP connections do not increase.
My database connection string has "Min Pool Size = 3 and Max Pool Size = 150".
With 2.111.6.20 version, TCP connection stays at 3.
With 2.112.1.0, TCP connection keep increasing for every 5 minutes. I've tried to disable Self Tuning, but still can't prevent the connections from increasing.
Later today, I downloaded Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.2 (it comes with ODAC 11.2.0.1.2) and test again, the problem is resolved... no more connection increases... but.... it is only for 32 bit Windows.
Unfortunately, there is no Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.2 for 64 bit Windows Server 2008.
May I know how can i resolve this problem on 64bit Window installed with Oracle 11g R2 client, which comes with Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.0, which has serious problems...(according to this 11.2 ODP.NET causing test runner failures )
Many thanks for your time and answers!
Edited by: user1502907 on 04-Sep-2010 23:01Hi,
The only thing that jumps out within your problem description is that connections are being increased every 5 minutes. Are you sure its every 5 minutes and not 3 minutes which is the timing interval used by the Connection Pool facility to perform connection pool maintenance. If this occurs even when the application is idle then you could be running into the following known issue filed against 11.2.0.1.0 and fixed in 11.2.0.1.2.
Bug 9711600 - CONNECTIONS INCREASE BEYOND MAX POOL SIZE EVERY 3 MINUTE
This is specific to using the option CommandBehavior.CloseConnection when calling execute reader. Are you using this option and then also closing the connection in code before the datareader object is closed, if so you may be hitting this bug. You can also generate an ODP trace at level 15 of the behavior and if you see negative pool counts, that is also a diagnostic that points to this bug.
This is fixed in 11.2.0.1.0 Patch 3 or later for x64. If you have support, I recommend you open a service request to verify if this is your issue and if a patch set may help you.

Problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.
Sorry to interrupt all of you.
I have encountered a problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.
As I would like to
I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to create a connection.
According to "tnsnames.ora", the paramater of connection is as follows;
XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = XE))
Unfortunately, when I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to test the connection, an error message is prompted as follows:
Connecting....
The test did not succeed.
ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error
There may be an error in the fields entered
or the server may not be ready for a connection.
You can check the server and retry, or continue.
After I google it, I still have no idea how to solve the problem. I would like to ask, could anyone mind providing some hints or solution to address the issues.
Thanks for your assistance in advance.I don't believe the Net8 Easy Config (NEC) will create a compatible entry in the tnsnames.ora. I have Forms 6i running successfully against a 10g Express database, but I did not use the NEC - I created the entry myself. Here is the entry I use:
XE=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=
(PROTOCOL=TCP)
(HOST=<<servername or IP address>>)
(PORT=1521)
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SERVER=dedicated)
(SERVICE_NAME=XE)
)Hope this helps,

Connecting oracle 10g express edition to jdeveloper
I am having all kinds of problems connecting oracle 10g express edition with my jdeveloper 10.1.3.3. I can query the database from my command line so I know it is set up, but for whatever reason jdeveloper will not connect with it. When I try to connect with the database through jdeveloper here is the error I keep getting:
Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12518, TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
localhost:1521:ORCL
I have been all through the google results looking for an answer and have come to the conclusion that it is something with either the listerner file or the tns file, but as of yet have been unable to locate them. here are both of those files too.

Please any help would be appreciated I have been at this for days, thanks. This has to be some kind of bug with 10g express because I see lots of people having similar problems. I'm in the process of uninstalling 10g, and I will re-install it see if that makes a difference. Again if anyone has any other ideas please keep them coming because this is utter BS it shouldn't be this hard.

I can't connect Oracle 7.3.2.1.0 by sqlplus anymore!
Hi!
I have an Oracle 7.3.2 for Irix installed before.
When I install Oracle 8.0.5 for Linux without Pro*C,
I can connect Oracle 7.3.2 by "sqlplus scott/tiger@remote".
But if I include Pro*C installed, I can't connect Oracle
7.3.2 by the same command anymore.
What should I do to solve this problem?
I can compile Pro*C program but get the same response :
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
password is right for sure, server just doesn't accept.
nullMy problem is a little different from your. I have both
Oracle 7.3.2 and 8.0.4 on our Sun workstation. I can connect
to Oracle 8.0.4 using both sqlplus and embeded SQL. However,
I could not connect to Oracle 7.3.2 by sqlplus or embeded SQL.
Error Message: ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host
or object does not exist
It's is a bug or it's not support to connect to old Oracle
Version??? If anyone have a solution please let me know.
