Connecting with ODSM to OVD fails caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError

Hi,
I have made a fresh new install of an Oracle Virtual Directory server running on Windows 2003 32-bit and an ODSM server (Weblogic) running on Windows 2003 64-bit using FMW Identity Management 11.1.1.2 for both OVD and ODSM (OVD of course being 32-bit and ODSM the 64-bit version).
When I try to connect with ODSM to my OVD server the first time without using SSL and connecting to port 8899 I get a pop-up telling me to look for a "Server Exception during PPR, #1" error in the log. The log shows me indeed a javax.servlet.ServletException: javax/wsdl/OperationType caused by Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/wsdl/OperationType Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: javax.wsdl.OperationType.
When I try it a second time with the same settings it tells me to look for a "Server Exception during PPR, #2[[" in the log. The log now shows me a javax.servlet.ServletException: Could not initialize class com.octetstring.vde.admin.services.client.VDEAdminServiceSoapBindingStub Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class com.octetstring.vde.admin.services.client.VDEAdminServiceSoapBindingStub.
Connecting using SSL fails with the same error as the second attempt without it except the error is now #3.
Any idea what might be going wrong here? Could it be the firewall between ODSM and OVD? Is it using more than port 8899 to connect? Or is it the difference between 32/64 bit platform and the 64-bit JVM that is missing some classes? What is it?
Thanks in advance,
Bart.

Hi,
I got the environment working.
Here is the environment details
Windows 2003 32 bit
WLS 10.1.3.3.
OFM 11g updated upto patch 11.1.1.3
Also during the IDM configuration, i have also added the OHS as part of the installation/configuration so that the HTTP_client.jar file is in the path.
HTH.

  • UPDATE: Connecting with ODSM to OVD fails caused by: NoClassDefFoundError

    Hi all,
    I saw quite a lot of people checked my post from the 21st of May about connection problems with ODSM to OVD caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError. I was able to fix this by adding orawsdl.jar (containing javax.wsdl.OperationType class) located in the Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_IDM1\modules\oracle.webservices_11.1.1 directory to the classpath by editing startWeblogic.cmd.
    Although it works I think it still requires some attention from Oracle because I already had a similar problem with the Enterprise Manager as described in: Re: EM fails to start with NoClassDefFoundError: HTTPClient/ProtocolNotSuppExce As a Java programmer I know how hard class loading can sometimes be :-).

    Hello Joel,
    Yes, I did follow the guide in Stefan's Blog and used the correct three standalone SDA files;
    actually I found out in CE 7.1.1, these three DC already exist after standard installation and
    have not deployed them at all.
    Thank you for your input.

    This at least tells me that java found my MANIFEST.MF class and that is the correct class it should be looking for, but it doesn't seem to find the class. But when I do - "jar -tf PM.jar" - I get:
    C:\mike\pm\execs>jar -tf PM.jar
    META-INF/
    META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
    pm/
    pm/EasterEgg.class
    pm/JMSMessageListener.class
    pm/PMApp.class
    pm/ReleasePlanTest.class
    pm/SystemArchitectureFrame$1.class
    pm/SystemArchitectureFrame$2.class
    pm/SystemArchitectureFrame$3.class
    pm/SystemArchitectureFrame$4.class
    pm/SystemArchitectureFrame$5.class
    pm/SystemArchitectureFrame$6.class
    pm/SystemArchitectureFrame$7.class
    pm/SystemArchitectureFrame$8.class
    pm/SystemArchitectureFrame.class
    pm/SystemArchitecturePanel.class
    Which shows me that the class is there. I suspected that it might have something to do with CLASSPATH at first because of the java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError, but now I am skeptical that that could be the problem. I even build a new jar file out of different classes to make sure my method was OK and that worked fine. Any ideas? Thanks for your help in advance.

    Here is my Manifest:
    Main-Class: pm.PMApp<carriage return>
    Class-Path: C:/j2sdkee1.3.1/lib/j2ee.jar<carriage return>
    I noticed that if I leave the Class-Path variable unset it has no problem finding the class pm/PMApp, but I then get a class loader error concerning J2EE stuff. Am I missing something in my Class-Path? I tried to even specify the jar file I'm running here, but that didn't work either? I have also tried '.' and './', space delimited in my Class-Path, like this:
    Class-Path: . ./ C:/j2sdkee1.3.1/lib/j2ee.jar<carriage return>
    Thanks for the replies, do you have any more suggestions?

    I've tried the solutions mentioned in the other similar thread: Failed to create Salience object but this doesnt solve the issue since the directory and variables were already correct.
    Anyone can help?

    Given that you are running this in Clover Server, one thing I can recommend is to shut that server down, move/truncate the logs, restart and retest, then look at the first error message you get when attempting to run the graph.  Java classloaders sometimes cache failed class clinit and report future attempts to load that class as a simple NoClassDefFoundError, masking the original/actual root cause.  With any luck you might find another, clearer error - maybe the native binary libraries are not being located.

  • Error during generation of the WSDL:  BUILD FAILED java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/javadoc/Type

    When I create an EJB Transport Business Service, after selecting the jar that has the EJB 2.1 artefacts (Remote, Home, etc) the oepe plugin fails and can't continue.
    As I understand it seems that there is a problem with the classpath of ant build.xml  that oepe creates inside folder /tmp/alsbejbtransport/ to compile the bs and generate the wsdl. I checked if tools.jar is in the classpath (in eclipse) and is included, so I can't figure out wich is the problem.
    I found this in Oracle, but not helps solve the problem:

  • HELP Needed with this error:   Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClass

    Folks,
    I am having a problem connecting to my MSDE SQL 2000 DB on a WindowsXP pro. environment. I am learning Java and writing a small test prgm to connect the the database. The code compiles ok, but when I try to execute it i keep getting this error:
    "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Test1"
    I am using the Microsoft jdbc driver and my CLASSPATH is setup correctly, I've also noticed that several people have complained about this error, but have not seen any solutions....can someone help ?
    Here is the one of the test programs that I am using:
    import java.sql.*;
    * Microsoft SQL Server JDBC test program
    public class Test1 {
    public Test1() throws Exception {
    // Get connection
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new
    com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver());
    Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection(
    "jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://LAPTOP01:1433","sa","sqladmin");
    if (connection != null) {
    System.out.println();
    System.out.println("Successfully connected");
    System.out.println();
    // Meta data
    DatabaseMetaData meta = connection.getMetaData();
    System.out.println("\nDriver Information");
    System.out.println("Driver Name: "
    + meta.getDriverName());
    System.out.println("Driver Version: "
    + meta.getDriverVersion());
    System.out.println("\nDatabase Information ");
    System.out.println("Database Name: "
    + meta.getDatabaseProductName());
    System.out.println("Database Version: "+
    meta.getDatabaseProductVersion());
    } // Test
    public static void main (String args[]) throws Exception {
    Test1 test = new Test1();

    I want to say that there was nothing wrong
    with my classpath config., I am still not sure why
    that didn't work, there is what I did to resolved
    this issue.You can say that all you like but if you are getting NoClassDefFound errors, that's because the class associated with the error is not in your classpath.
    (For future reference: you will find it easier to solve problems if you assume that the problem is your fault, instead of trying to blame something else. It almost always is your fault -- at least that's been my experience.)
    1. I had to set my DB connection protocol to TCP/IP
    (this was not the default), this was done by running
    the
    file "svrnetcn.exe" and then in the SQL Server Network
    Utility window, enable TCP/IP and set the port to
    1433.Irrelevant to the classpath problem.
    2. I then copied all three of the Microsoft JDBC
    driver files to the ..\jre\lib\ext dir of my jdk
    installed dir.The classpath always includes all jar files in this directory. That's why doing that fixed your problem. My bet is that you didn't have the jar file containing the driver in your classpath before, you just had the directory containing that jar file.
    3. Updated my OS path to located these files
    and....BINGO! (that simple)Unnecessary for solving classpath problems.
    4. Took a crash course on JDBC & basic Java and now I
    have created my database, all tables, scripts,
    stored procedures and can read/write and do all kinds
    of neat stuff.All's well that ends well. After a few months you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

  • A working application suddenly caused java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError

    I have a web application running on a resin server. Everything in my application worked fine at the beginning but suddenly I got java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError. I looked at the line number of the exception and found out that the classes causing java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError are always the ones that contain static collection of data. The samples of those classes are CityList class and CountryList class which has a HashMap of city IDs and the city name strings. I'm not sure why those classes suddenly become unavailable. The strange thing is that my application becomes normal again when I upload my classes to site. Please note that my webhoster set up the server so that every time I upload my file to their given directory, it's automatically copied to the resin server. I have no direct access to the resin server myself. After I re-upload my classes, everything seems ok for a few hours, then suddenly I get NoClassDefFoundError again.
    Anyone knows why? Please help. I have no idea why this is happening.

    I seem to have a similar problem. No fix...looking for a solution.
    I have a stand alone java application that will run for a long period of time. While running it calls a specific static method on a class. Everything is working fine (while executing the method in the class) and then, all of a sudden, I will get a noClassDef error.
    I am running this application with a number of JVMs, all using the same version of Java and they do not show this problem. I know that they are all calling the same class and method and they never have the problem. But, every now and then, it seems like there is some runtime condition that comes up where it is not able to load a class.
    The problem appears to be dynamic because I can restart the application (after the JVM crashes with the exception) and everything works fine, including the class and method that caused the problem. I start everything with scripts so there is no variation in classpath settings.
    I have seen a similar problem in a non-static class when one event happens and it goes to load a common class (that I know is in the classpath) and I get the noClassDef error.
    Could this be a threading issue in any way? No ideas, no fixes in sight. Any ideas or questions would be helpful.

  • Error starting the framework : Caused by: java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerE

    Hi.
    I am developing an SAP Mobile 7.1 (OCA) application using:
    SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio
    SAP NetWeaver 7.1 Composition Environment SP11 PAT0000
    Build id: 201011031812
    I get the runtime exception shown below from time
    to time when using the simulator that comes with NWDS, meaning, that,
    sometimes I can work on my code, re-deploy it and run it without
    problems, then suddenly it comes out again with no apparent reason when
    I execute the mobile application. This is different when I run the
    application on the device (which previously used to run fine), now get
    the exception everytime
    I know that the exception comes out when the application tries to make
    a new instance of the service component that is defined internally as a
    private static final object.
    The server is NW 7.1 SP11

    Hi there,
    your concern is not without reason. But there is a way to configure NWDI to use both JDKs as required.
    In the CBS-Settings
    BUILD_TOOL_JDK_HOME - has to point to the JDK with the highest version. This should be the JDK 6 of your CE 7.2 I guess.
    JDK_HOME_PATHS - contains aliases for the JDKs and the PATH to them. This aliases will be used in the build variant.
    For example: JDK1.4_HOME=/usr/lib64/jvm/java;JDK1.5.0_HOME=/nwdi/sap_build_vm/sapjvm_5;default=/nwdi/sap_build_vm/sapjvm_5
    This example tells CBS that there are 2 JDKs 1.4 and 1.5 and that the 1.5 JDK will be used by default.
    When you create a track you have to set a build variant to use , in my case JDK 1.4, instead od the JDK1.5 by default.
    The build variant will be:
         com.sap.jdk.home_path_key = JDK1.4_HOME
    This tells CBS to use the JDK1.4 as defined in JDK_HOME_PATHS for building in this track. other tracks will use the default JDK as long as the build variant is not adjusted.
    So its not problem to build with different JDKs in NWD if required.
    Have a good time
    Jan

  • Custom ClassLoader - fails to load java/lang/Object

    I have created a custom class loader based substantially on Jim Farley's code in "Java Distributed Computing" pp 39-44.
    The code does get a URL connection, download the class file, but fails when it tries to load (re-load) java/lang/Object. My understanding is that the same (custom) class loader is also used to load dependent classes (needed by the class your are originally loading). I had assumed that this would be handled by the call to findSystemClass() I had assumed.
    Any help or direction is appreciated,
    Jeff.
    Here is the output:
    File=/tasks/Person.class

    Never mind - I've figure it out.
    The problem is that the ClassLoader calls RemoteClassLoader.loadClass() to load in java.lang.Object, which is fine. But, my code tries to first create a URL from this, which fails, eventually throwing a NoClassDefFoundError.
    I have fixed it by delaying the call to parseName() until after checking loaded classes and system classes.

  • I am getting the following error: Unable to locate class: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: on an iPlanet WS. We have ensured that the classpath in jvm12.conf includes the jar file with path. Any ideas?

    Well, now I'm pulling my hair out even more because I can't get it to resolve anything in jaxws-rt.jar at runtime. Note: compile-time still works FINE.
    I was messing with classpaths and stuff (and the endorsed dirs option of course) and it was "working" to the extent I had posted before, but then I kept playing with it and at some point I said, this isn't working and I need to reset all this stuff back to the way it was.
    ... so I did that. And now it won't resolve "PolicyException:"
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/xml/ws/policy/PolicyException
    This doesn't mean anything to you guys I bet, but that happens when it FIRST gets inside the web service code, which references PolicyException (doesn't even use it at that point.. I'm assuming the import is screwing it up when it's in the constructor). So now it won't resolve at all. Before, it was getting past this point and telling me the "method not found" error on the next line or this same error for WSBindingProvider two lines down, when it's actually being used. AWESOME.
    I downloaded the latest jaxws-rt.jar and all its dependencies, shoved that into my lib folder, and set the endorsed dir to that folder (There's kind of a web of dependencies here. jaxws-rt.jar expects all its dependencies to be in the same folder, it seems, so I don't know how it was "working" before when I just copied jaxws-rt.jar into my separate endorsed dir - but I can't move all of those files to endorsed because I need them in my project (which expects them to be in the lib folder)). What happened? It went back to my original "String" error (first error in the first post), which means it's not getting endorsed at all from that location.
    What a mess.
    Can someone tell me what the heck I'm supposed to do with this jar file?

  • Jaxb with weblogic -- java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/xml/bind/MarshallableRootElement

    I am trying to use jaxb with Weblogic 6.1. I kept both the jaxb jar file in weblogic
    classpath in setEnv script. I am getting the following error, when I am trying
    to use jaxb
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/xml/bind/MarshallableRootElement
    I tried other options also like coping both jar file in jre/ext dir but then I
    got security error.
    I will appreciate if someone in this newsgroup comments or suugest some solution.
    Thanks

    should work fine.
