Connection method to relational database

Does anyone know if Hyperion uses ODBC connection or native connection to the relational database?
Technology question being asked by IT department

Hi,
It is possible to configure native drivers through jdbc. Here is how:

  • Unable to use "easy connect" method to XE database

    All,
I have an XE database running on Oracle Enterprise Linux. If I create a tnsnames.ora entry I can connect to the server fine. However, if I try to connect via the easy connect method
    sqlplus user@host:port:sid it fails with
    Enter password:
    ERROR:
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
the hostname I am using is definitely correct and I've also tried with ip address and get same error message. If I change from SID to SERVICE_NAME
    sqlplus user@host:port/service
I get the following error message
    ERROR:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
    descriptor
I've used both XE and xe as service name. The service name in my tnsnames.ora entry that works uses lower case xe for service name.
Any help out there would be appreciated.

Maybe this is more significant for you ?

  • Best connection method

Which is the best connection method for Java programming? ODBC? ODP? OLE DB? JDBC?
And why do you think is the best method?
What is exactly JDeveloper? is it just a tool for Java programming?

These questions are too general for this forum really: you
should web search for opinions on these matters.
Which is the best connection method for Java programming? ODBC? ODP? OLE DB? JDBC?JDBC is the most commonly used route to get from Java to a relational database
    - oracle provides a JDBC driver for its own database.
And why do you think is the best method?ODBC - OLE DB _ much too microsoft
    ODP - what's that?
What is exactly JDeveloper? is it just a tool for Java programming? No, just the tool for Java programming.

  • Dw cs5 with existing wordpress site hosted on yahoo need help connecting to existing remote database

I am having trouble establishing a database connection.  I can  connect with test databases but am having trouble using dreamweaver wtih  my existing wordpress website.  Am I able to use dreamweaver to edit  and live view my changes before uploading the changed files to my live  site?  Am I able to access my existing wordpress database with  dreaweaver?  I have imported it to my testing server/database but still  seem to be having trouble establishing a connection with it (think maybe  my folder hierarchy might be off).
    macintosh HD/Applications/MAMP/htdocs/nwm/wp/index.php
"nwm" is the name of the folder that I have copied all of my site  files to and the folder I have dreamweaver pointing to.  "wp" is what I  have all of the wordpress files in (the ones I copied from my yahoo  server - including all my current theme files etc.)
I am trying to put the info into the mysql connection dialog box:
Connection Name: Testing (i am assuming this name is for my benefit only and doesn't actually matter)
    MySQL Server: mysql
    User Name: *****
    Password: *****
    Database: wp
    and am getting this message
    MySQL Error#: 2013
Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error 61
did some google seaches of the error.  Tried turning off the  firewall, and the advance tab allow mysql incoming  (there were 2 one  was allow one was not allow.  I changed both to allow)
Cant really find anything on yahoo to help me out.  Looked in  phpmyadmin database named wp: wp_users to get the username and password  (which due to previous look for help - I think the password was  encrypted cuz it looked like a bunch of mumbo jumbo and am fairly  certain I know the correct password).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I spent $50 on live chat  last night trying to resolve the issue only to find out at the end that  the guy really didn't understand my problem and doesn't have  dreamweaver.  I have also watched countless videos on Lynda.com and have  been thru forum after forum.  While this problem is only a couple weeks  old since I just got CS5.  I have been having trouble making any  headway learning php since I cant seem to make it past the set up  parts.  I have done the php / mysql essential training on lynda.com with  relative success except that I really dont want to work with any more  exercise files so I didn't go on to the beyond the basics. I recently  went thru most of the Dreamweaver CS5 and Wordpress 3. Also did the  first 4 chapters of Dreamweaver CS5 with PHP and MySQL. I need to start  integrating things into my live sites.  I am also trying to work my way  thru the learning php, mysql, javascript book by o'reily media by robin  nixon (as fun as reading a math text book) can't get thru it since I  can't relate any of it to my current sites/needs
I am on MacBookPro OSX 10.6.6
Installed MAMP to specification on all 20 tutorials I have tried including lynda.com
Tested the testing server and is working
    Just installed dreamweaver cs5
have been using wordpress online to create and edit posts (recently  upgraded to 3.? whatever the latest update was online which I believe  update the files on my yahoo server?)
Have also installed wordpress on my computer (several times thru each tutorial trying to get this right.)
    Am I expecting the impossible?

If wordpress controls it's own connection why am I unable to use the live view. I have synced the remote site to my local computer so all the files should be just as they are online with the exception of the DB which contains most of the content.
I have done all of those steps.  I have even exported the database from inside internet phpmyadmin and imported into computer phpmyadmin.  When I hit live view I get one of couple of errors.
    1.  "One is that the dynamic related files could not be displayed due to an internal server error"
At some point I was able to view some sample files inside dreamweaver.  But I would like to be able to view my real site files.  I was able to "connect" to the local databases (not the copy of my real one - I think that maybe that was because it is somehow nested inside another db an am going try to reimport to new location).  And then I changed the host/username/password trying to deal with the internal server error. Now instead I get the cannot connect to the database Error 2016 or whatever from the origianl post. Also, I am using yahoo if that matters and all I can find about what their server name is: mysql - is that correct?
I have been thru this so many times with so many different tutorials I am losing track of what is what.
    2.  Can I access my remote database within dreamweaver? I do not want to create dummy files (seems to be a waste of time).  And while if it had worked exporting/importing a duplicate on to my computer would have satisfied me for a little while it also seems some what counter productive.  Since every post and page is different if I were doing a daily updates etc how would I be able to change the formating or design of them if I can't access the remote files.  Would I re- import everytime I want to work on it to get current database?
I am trying to be clear.  I listed all the specs I could think as listed  in your "how to get help fast post" (yes I read that at least twice  too) of all of the steps and possible reasons for my problems.  I also  thought that the forum was on a seperate site so I didn't think it would  count as a duplicate.  I am frustrated to tears and am feeling  incredibly stupid that after all this time and all these tutorials yes  you are right I obviously am not understanding what is going on which is  why I am on this forum.

  • Database Error (maybe) while working on User-Role or Assiging a Cloud (Unable to connect to the VMM database because of a general database failure)

    Hi,
Suddenly I got this error in SCVMM 2012-R2 Roll-up 1:
When working with User-Roles (create/update) or assigning a Cloud :
"VMM encountered a critical exception and created an exception report....
search user forums for well-known failure root causes for self-help" (how sweet)... (if it's "well known", why not coding the exception handling correctly?)
The relevant part of the report might be this:
    "SCVMM Version=3.2.7620.0
    SCVMM flavor=C-buddy-RTL-AMD64
    Default Assembly Version=3.2.7620.0
    Executable Name=vmmservice.exe

    Base Exception Target Site=140717670746840
    Base Exception Assembly name=System.Data.dll
    Base Exception Method Name=System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError
Exception Message=Unable to connect to the VMM database because of a general database failure.
Ensure that the SQL Server is running and configured correctly, then try the operation again."
(side question: what does this mean: "Ensure that the SQL Server is ... configured correctly"?
    I can say that :
SQL is configured by the book, that all services are running (did a reboot of VMM server too) and that all other VMM functions work OK. I don't believe that SQL is only used for user-roles...
Acting as Domain admin and VMM admin.
    All updates are installed.
Please find the report @the and and a screen shot attached.
    Thanks for any help.

    Thomas.

I (quite honestly) am one of those folks that generally do not read the KB articles associated with a patch or UR or SP - as you don't expect details like have been put into this particular one.
But as Kristian pointed out - within that KB article is the SQL script that modifies / updates this SQL Stored Procedure.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/scvmm/archive/2014/01/29/how-to-update-scvmm-2012-r2-to-update-rollup-1.aspx
Needless to say, the feedback was given to MSFT that folks would overlook that this SQL script needed to be run.  So we are just trying to help out.

  • Problem with updating a record method in a database

I've searched for the forums for info on this to no avail.
I am connecting to Access database, using the sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver.
I'm trying to be able to update 2 fields in a record (cost & quantity).
I have an addrecord method, an update method.
I can use the addrecord and it works great.
But (yep, there's always a but!), when I try to update only the 1 or 2 fields on a record, I get a message that says "syntax error in UPDATE statement"
I've written, deleted and re-written code & I'm going nuts.
Here are my database methods and the actionPerformed where it calls those methods. Is the error message regarding my UPDATE (sql) syntax?
Why does it work for adding, but not updating?? It seems my 1st if statement under my "update button" is never gone to... so maybe it's just a problem with my "if" statement.
Please help me before I go crazy! Thanks!

please help me to sort this out
    Thanks
    Sishani

I've solved the DW problem by changing the site folders from
'db' to 'wwwroot' e.g. 'C:\CFusionMX\db\' is now
    'C:\CFusionMX\wwwroot\
However I'm now back to my original problem. I've lost my
mqysql connection in CF Adminstrator. Before I made these changes I
could connect to my mysql databases using the following settings:
    JDBC URL: jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test
    Driver Name: MySQL Connector J
using the following Java path and file:
    C:\CFusionMX\wwwroot\WEB-INF\lib\mysql-connector-java-3.0.17-ga-bin.jar
Now these settings give me the following error:
"Connection verification failed for data source: javaserver
    []java.sql.SQLException: SQLException occurred in JDBCPool
while attempting to connect, please check your username, password,
    URL, and other connectivity info.
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: SQLException
occurred in JDBCPool while attempting to connect, please check your
username, password, URL, and other connectivity info"
Any suggestions on this would also be welcome.
Thanks again to everyone for their help.
    Sincerely,
    Graham A. Kerby

  • Insert XML file into Relational database model - no XMLTYPE!

    Dear all,
How can I store a known complex XML file into an existing relational database WITHOUT using xmltypes in the database ?
I read the article on DBMS_XMLSTORE. DBMS_XMLSTORE indeed partially bridges the gap between XML and RDBMS to a certain extent, namely for simply structured XML (canonical structure) and simple tables.
However, when the XML structure will become arbitrary and rapidly evolving, surely there must be a way to map XML to a relational model more flexibly.
We work in a java/Oracle10 environment that receives very large XML documents from an independent data management source. These files comply with an XML schema. That is all we know. Still, all these data must be inserted/updated daily in an existing relational model. Quite an assignment isn't it ?
The database does and will not contain XMLTYPES, only plain RDBMS tables.
Are you aware of a framework/product or tool to do what DBMS_XMLSTORE does but with any format of XML file ? If not, I am doomed.
    Cheers.
    Luc.

In case you decide to follow my advice, here's a simple example showing how to do this.. (Note the XMLTable syntax is the preferred approach in 10gr2 and later..

SQL>Out of interest why are you so against using XMLType...
Edited by: mdrake on Jan 13, 2009 8:25 AM

  • Insert XML file into Relational database model without using XMLTYPE tables

    Dear all,
How can I store a known complex XML file into an existing relational database WITHOUT using xmltypes in the database ?
Constraints : Input via XML files defined by third party
Storage : relational database model with hundreds of tables and thousands of existing queries that can not be touched. The model must not be altered.
Target : get this XML into the database on a daily basis via an automated process.
    Cheers.
    Luc.

    Luc,
    your Doomed !
If you would try something like DBMS_XMLSTORE, you probably would be into serious performance problems in your case, very fast, and it would be very difficult to manage.
If you would use a little bit of XMLType stuff, you would be able to shred the data into the relational model very fast and controlable. Take it from me, I am one of those old geezers like Mr. Tom Kyte way beyond 40 years (still joking). No seriously. I started out as a classical PL/SQL, Forms Guy that switched after two years to become a "DBA 1.0" and Mr Codd and Mr Date were for years my biggest hero's. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Tom Kyte for all his efforts for bringing the concepts manual into the development world. Just to name some off the names that influenced me. But you will have to work with UNSTRUCTURED data (as Mr Date would call it). 80% of the data out there exists off it. Stuff like XMLTABLE and XML VIEWs bridge the gap between that unstructured world and the relational world. It is very doable to drag and drop an XML file into the XMLDB database into a XMLtype table and or for instance via FTP. From that point on it is in the database. From there you could move into relational tables via XMLTABLE methods or XML Views.
You could see the described method as a filtering option so XML can be transformed into relational data. If you don't want any XML in your current database, then create an small Oracle database with XML DB installed (if doable 11.1.0.7 regarding the best performance --> all the new fast optimizer stuff etc). Use that database as a staging area that does all the XML shredding for you into relational components and ship the end result via database links and or materialized views or other probably known methodes into your relational database that isn't allowed to have XMLType.
This way you would keep your realtional Oracle database clean and have the Oracle XML DB staging database do all the filtering and shredding into relational components.
Throwing the XML DB option out off the window beforehand would be like replacing your Mercedes with a bicycle. With both you will be able to travel the distance from Paris to Rome, but it will take you a hell of lot longer.
    :-)

  • P6 user name is not valid for connecting to the reporting database

No data is available because your P6 user name is not valid for connecting to the reporting database
I am getting above error in the following environment:
P6 running on wls instance 1.
BI Publisger running on wls instance 2
    MS SQL server 2005
Note that the error appears when I clink on the 'Reports' tab in P6. My admin user on P6 has access to report/analyser modules.
To connect P6 to BI Publisher I am using 'PxRptUser' in the P6 configuration for Bi Publisher. I know as well that the WSDL URL is correct and I can test this in SoapUI tool.
In BI publisher I have created the PMDB data source using PxRprUser, and the test of this connection works.
(Because the report samples come with Oracle flavoured SQL that SQL server does not like, I have configured BI Publisher so I have just a single report left that sources it data from an xml file. This works in BI Publisher. It also helps me in that I do not need to add 'WHERE' clauses and parameters required for SQL server?)
Furthermore, using a DB tool, I can connect to my SQL server using PxRPTUser.
So why do I get the error above?
I picked up somewhere that I should not be adding users to BI Publisher. Funny enough, testing the 'login' method the BI Publisher exposes through its WSDL (as above) I noticed I HAD to create the user PxRptUser in BI publisher application itself (on top of PxRptUser in database) for the login web service to work with PxRptUser
That did not solve the connection between P6 and BI Publisher though. What am I missing ...
    Edited by: user3674522 on 10/11/2011 20:16

Thought I found something but can't repliacte, som issue is still there:
Had a look at the wls instance logs where BI publisher is running, and the error I get is:
    111111_023646955][][ERROR] javax.naming.NamingException: Unresolved naming: cn=admin, dc=user, dc=users, dc=principals at [cn=admin]
That user, admin, is the one I have used to access P6. Why is this passed on to BI Publisher? I thought the idea was that the PxRptUser set in BI Publisher configurations in P6 would be used?

  • REP-501: Unable to connect to the specified database in Report Server

This application does not fail in other databases, only in which I have the problem.
The connection to the database through the SQLPLUS and other applications works well. The error is presented only when calling reports from the application.
Another point is that the problem is presented with some users and not with others even they have the same conditions as roles, profiles, grant objects, etc.
If i run my report with the following url applying directly on address bar of web browser then it run fine on web browser
    http://hostname.domain:port/reports/rwservlet?report=myreport.jsp&userid=un/pw@db&destype=cache&desformat=PDF
OAS 10g and Database are on different machines.
Please... any idea about this problem?
    Thanks!!

I use a report object, imagine that sends connect information when creating the Job in the reports server.
    However the same problem happens if I call to report from the Internet Explorer with all parameters of connectivity, for example;
    http://hostname.domain:port/reports/rwservlet?report=myreport.rep&userid=un/pwdb@&destype=cache&desformat=PDF
The only difference in this database is that it is configured in a RAC and as I mentioned the problem occurs with some users and not with others, even if they are identical.
    Thank for your help!
