Connection pools, dspMaxThreads, listener-threads and ReceiverThreads?

Hi,
We are using BPEL 10.1.3.3. Our integration uses the database adapter and the AQ adapter against the same remote database 10.1.2.3. We are experiencing problems with transaction that fails with:
java.sql.SQLException: Unable to get a physical connection from the database...there are no connections available.Error Code: 0.
Then we tried to change the connection pools to not use so many connection but now instances disappears.
The 2 connections pools are setup like this:
DBAdapter connection pool with max 10 connection
AqAdapter connection pool with max 2 connections
We have 3 domains:
Default:
dspMaxThreads 20
dspMinThreads 5
Test:
dspMaxThreads 100
dspMinThreads 5
Production:
dspMaxThreads 60
dspMinThreads 5
listener-threads and ReceiverThreads are set to 300 in the orion-ejb-jar.xml in C:\oracle\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\j2ee\oc4j_soa\application-deployments\orabpel\ejb_ob_engine
I had a look at Clemens blog about lost instances (http://clemensblog.blogspot.com/2007/07/soa-suite-10133-patchset-and-lost.html) but I cannot understand the part about listener-threads and receiverThreads. Can anybody explain how the size of the connection pools and the dspMaxThreads, ReceiveThreads andlistener-threads has to be?
Regards Pete

Thanks Marc,
Yes I have and I got it working. If you set dspMaxThread to 90 and my connections pools to max session 90 it works. Don't understand why it has to be so high. It's potentially a lot of resources that has to be available on the database (Extra ram). But it looks like it's OK for now.

  • Code for using thin client over connection pool to access blob and clob

    Hi,
    Currently I am running WL5.1SP12 with oracle thin client 8.1.7 to access blob

  • Inactivity timeout of connection pool - Sun ONE 7 and Oracle 8i

    Friends,
    I have a JDBC connection configured, looked up by JNDI working fine with servlets.
    The question is: I have a firewall between my appserver and the database server that closes all idle connections longer than 10 minutes.
    The appserver assumes the connection is still alive, and when there is made an attempt, it keeps trying for a long time.
    Is there any way I can keep that connection alive?
    Or, any way to 'tell' the appserver to reestablish the connection?
    Thanks in advance

  • Missing listener-threads attribute in orion-ejb-jar.xml !!

    Hi All,
    I was trying to do some performance tuning as given in BPEL admin guide. For one of the BPEL property namely 'dspMaxThreads', guide says "Sum of dspMaxThreads of ALL domains should be <= the number of mdb listener threads on the workerbean". Now when i open <SOA_HOME>/j2ee/oc4j_soa/application-deployments/orabpel/orion-ejb-jar.xml and navigate to workerbean, i can not find any listener-threads attribute in message-driven-deployment tag.
    <message-driven-deployment name="WorkerBean" min-instances="100" resource-adapter="BPELjms">
    However there is a ReceiverThreads property set to 40.
    <message-driven-deployment name="WorkerBean" min-instances="100" resource-adapter="BPELjms">
    <config-property-name>ReceiverThreads</config-property-name>
    <config-property-value>40</config-property-value>
    </config-property>
    </message-driven-deployment>
    Now my question is that can i add listener-threads attribute to message-driven-deployment tag and then tune dspmaxthreads accordingly, Or
    i can make use of ReceiverThreads property to match with dspmaxthreads property. I am really confused b/w listener-threads and ReceiverThreads.
    Can anyone clarify the same ?
    I have ORACLE SOA Suite ver 10.1.3.1 (with 10.1.3.3 patch) installed.
    Thanks in advance.

If that's not happening can you verify it against the OC4J v903 production release and see if it is still happening. I don't know if this helps with the JDeveloper problem specifically but if you don't need to create your own finders then that I hope should help.

  • [Fwd: Re: rdbms realm and connection pool]

    Hi,
    One reason why I would like to use the connection pool for the RDBMS
    realm is because there is the retry machanism built into the connection
    pool. With this retry, I don't need to re-start WebLogic if the DB
    server is somehow re-started. With the current implementation, all the
    connections maintained by the realm will become invalid if the DB server
    has been restarted independently.

    I believe not- the realm restricts access to connection pools to those
    who
    are allowed it, so if the realm needs the connection pool to start up,
    and
    you can't open the connection pool without the realm then you have a bit
    of
    a no-chicken and no-egg situation, which is I believe one of the reasons
    why
    there is no use of connection pools, ejbs, jndi, servlets etc. in the
    realm
    (along with other reasons, like why would it be provided with a servlet)
    The delegate pool acts somewhat similarly to a connection pool, and can
    even
    use the same database, so I'm not sure what the advantage would be

  • Java Connection Pooling issue with Oracle 10g Express Edition

    Hello
    I have a Java based web application that uses the Oracle 10g Express Edition database. I am using a connection pool to get connections to the database.
    I use the NetBeans IDE and run my web application on the bundled Tomcat server(5.5.7) that comes with the IDE. Though when I initially run the application from the IDE, the connection pool is set up fine, when I recompile my java code and try to run the application again, I get the following error each time:
    Listener refused the connection with the following error:
    ORA-12516, TNS:listener could not find available handler with the
    matching protocol stack.
    The logs before the error shows up, indicate that the connection pool object is fine and gives me the number of available connections and the number of active connections and so on, which I have printed from the constructor of the Connection Pool class:
    For e.g.:
    Cache size = 17
    Available Connections = 17
    Cache Limit = 1000
    Active size = 0
    However, if I kill my Tomcat server process and run the application again, it works fine with no error.
    I looked around for possible causes and solutions and all I could find
    was increasing the processes parameter value in the init.ora file. I have increased the parameter value to from 100 to 20000 now, in increments of 500/1000 each time but it hasnt worked so far.
    Someone else suggested that I increase the size of my connection pool; I initially had it set to a minimum limit of 5, an initial limit of 10 and a maximum limit of 1000. However if I set the Initial Limit to anything above 17 connections, I see the following log on the Bundled Tomcat log and my application doesn't run at all:
    Log: Loading JDBC Driver : class=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver ...
    Log: Loaded JDBC Driver
    Log: Connection with URL=jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:xe as username/password
    Error code not handled : 0
    Exception Message :java.sql.SQLException: Listener refused the connection with the following error:
    ORA-12519, TNS: no appropriate service handler found
    The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
    localhost:1521:xe
    // End of log
    And the Bundled Tomcat server automatically shuts down.
    Again the System.out statements from the Connection Pool class constructor show that the cache has been initialized and that currently there are free connections available in the pool.
    E.g.
    Cache size = 18
    Available Connections = 18
    Cache Limit = 1000
    Active size = 0
    Has anyone faced anything similar? Could someone please suggest what I'm doing wrong here and what I should do to set right this problem?
    Swetha

    hello, please pardon me, my english is basic. i do of my best. i had the same problem until reading the pdf documentation 2 days for java devvelloper.it is simple, follow this way.
    try {OracleDataSource ds;
         Connection conn;
      ds = new OracleDataSource();
      ds.setURL("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost");
      conn = ds.getConnection("userid","password");
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
    don't forget to Dowload the user client of oracle Express Edition. do the rest of your program and it will work. take a look to the documentation pdf for java develloper. all it is explained.  good look

  • How to know Information of a Connection Pool

    HI,
    I want to know the information of a connection pool for example its maxSize and
    what are the active connections in the pool programitically ie. thr' code.
    I can monitor them thr' console.But how to monitor a pool thr' code.
    And what does all the attributes like WaitSecondsHigh,Waiters,
    WaitersHigh mean.how can i get information about them.
    And how do i get the information of them thr' code.
    I have seen that JDBCConnectionPoolRuntime gives information about the pool.But
    how to create a object of this interface.
    Can anyone provide me the code for this.
    Let me explain more....
    I have created a demo pool and has set the maximum connections size as 2.I tried
    to get 3 connections from the pool and obvious a exception has raised.(java.sql.SQLException:
    Pool connect failed: weblogic.common.ResourceException: None available).
    so i am writing a class such that it keeps the connections in wait state when
    the pool has reached its maximum value for which i should know what are the active
    connections and the maximum size of the pool.
    So please if any one can help me how to know these values of the connetion pool

    env.setSecurityCredentials(password);
    Context ctx = env.getInitialContext();
    home = (MBeanHome) ctx.lookup(MBeanHome.JNDI_NAME+".wlcsServer");
    // Note the type of the Mbean: JDBCConnectionPoolConfig - The fixed
    configuration of the pool just as the console
    // JDBCConnectionPoolRuntime - The runtime parameters of the pool, like
    current connections
    // To retrieve the Mbean JDBCConnectionPoolMBean via ObjectName
    WebLogicObjectName o = new
    WebLogicObjectName("commercePool","JDBCConnectionPoolConfig","wlcsDomain","w
    lcsServer");
    JDBCConnectionPoolMBean pool = (JDBCConnectionPoolMBean)home.getMBean(o);
    // the same Mbean but without ObjectName
    JDBCConnectionPoolMBean pool =
    (JDBCConnectionPoolMBean)home.getMBean("ccPoolSuc","JDBCConnectionPoolConfig
    System.out.println("TableName " + pool.getTestTableName());
    // To retrieve the JDBCConnectionPoolRuntimeMBean
    JDBCConnectionPoolRuntimeMBean poolR =
    (JDBCConnectionPoolRuntimeMBean)home.getMBean(new
    WebLogicObjectName("wlcsDomain:ServerRuntime=wlcsServer,Name=sucPool,Locatio
    n=wlcsServer,Type=JDBCConnectionPoolRuntime"));
    System.out.println("getActiveConnectionsCurrentCount()" +
    poolR.getActiveConnectionsCurrentCount());
    // To retrieve a collection of the Mbeans by Type
    Collection Beans = home.getMBeansByType("JDBCConnectionPoolRuntime");
    catch(Exception ex)
    System.out.println("Error " + ex);
    ex.printStackTrace();
    return;
    These are extracts of the actual code, providing you diferent ways.
    By the way, the issue you are trying to solve with a waiting time for a
    connection to be available is an out-of-the-box functionality of the
    weblogic pool. But is also restricted to some like 5 secs. (if i remember
    well) and the reason is to avoid thread contention.
    So if you are going to implement some like that must be much carefull. The
    better way is to play with the InitialCapacity, MaxCapacity,
    CapacityIncrement and ShrinkPeriod parameters, giving the enough connections
    to avoid as possible as you can the situation in which exists waiters of
    connections.
    Hope this help.

  • Using commons dbcp in SOA 8 for connection pool?

    Hi there,
    It is possible to use commons dbcp in SOA 8 for connection pool ing?
    At far I tried SOA 8 does not work either Mckoi and AS400 databases jdbc drivers in a connection pool.
    So having the experience with Tomcat and commons-dbcp with successfull connection pools, I am trying to use a alternative database connection pool, or use SOA8 connection pool using commons-dbcp and it with our AS400 db.
    Do you think it is possible?
    Thanks for your input!
    Lorenzo Jimenez

    I am really lost.
    All I know i that I used this jtopen driver on tomcat with and without connection pool.
    I used the same parameters, but SOA implementation or program is different. Maybe is the 1.4 api, maybe is the jdbc expected.
    Really don't know.
    What I know I as400 and mckoi drivers don't work where in Tomcat work ok.
    Please check this thread with the error that SOA gave to me

  • Monitor Connection Pool 10g

    I am using odp.net 10gR2. Is there a way I can monitor the connection pool, like action connection, connection strings or active connections etc. Also, can I know the like how many connection pools will be there per cpu in my server and can I make any of the connection pool as inactive or disable or something like that ?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    isn't the theory that there is no direct guaranteed mapping between connections -> sessions -> process ?!
    atleast on 10.2.0.1 x64 on windows 2003 i'm chasing a issue where v$session and v$process counts do not correspond to the number of thread in the oracle.exe process. Seems like as the connection pools increase the threads go up as you would expect but then stay idle until the client app restarts (also a bug with Dead connection detections and keepalives with this release potentially).
    anybody else with this kind of issue or more insight or even better a method to get a bit more insight?

    Mauro,
    Could you post text of the exception and the source code where it happens?
    Slava
    Hi Slava,
    yes of course, I tried!
    With TestOnReserve/Release turned ON WebLogic understands that the poolconnections
    are "closed" and when I ask a connection the exception "No ResourcesAvailable"
    is thrown.
    On the contrary, with TestOnReserve turned OFF, WebLogic does not test thepool
    and grants the connection on demand, but the stored procedures (only thestored
    procedures!!??) executed on this connection throw the exception("connection closed").
    >
    I tried also to catch the failure and to refresh the connection poolthrough the
    weblogic.jdbc.JdbcServices (please see the attached file), but the reset()method
    has no effects...
    My configuration is WebLogic6.0 server with Service Pack 2 installed. Maybe that
    the JdbcServices are deprecated in this version.
    Thank you very much!

    You need to copy your jar to ${AS_INSTALL}/domains/domain1/lib/ext (replace domain1 by your
    domain). Another option is to leave the jar in ${AS_INSTALL}/lib and add a entry in the classpath-suffix element of your domain.xml.

    I was previously using the jferner/node-oracle module with the "generic-pool" (https://github.com/coopernurse/node-pool) module for connection pooling.
    I'm trying out a setup with connection pooling with node-oracledb and have a few questions:
    * If an execute call fails with a connection i've retrieved from the pool, and I want to destroy that connection and remove it from the pool, how do I do that?  Is it done implicitly for me?
    * Is there any way to validate a connection before it's used?  Or again, is this done implicitly?  Is there a way to toggle it on and off for perf tuning?
    * Is there any way to tune how frequently Oracle checks for idle connections?  (In generic-pool this was called reapIntervalMillis)
    * Is there any way to turn on any logging of how the connection pool behaves for development debugging?  I just want to make sure my setup is behaving as I think it should be.
    I'm making some good headway on getting the module working and it wasn't too difficult a conversion from node-oracle, either, that's good!

    You should release() bad connections to the pool so the pool can replace them.
    Validating connections is generally not worth it: between validation & use there could be a failure, so your executions need to handle errors anyway.  Why reduce scalability and performance by doing an extra "round trip" for validation? Also you can use FAN which can proactively clean up idle sessions in the session pool that are affected by the DB instance disappearing (due to network glitches etc).
    The client-side pool is handled by Oracle session pooling, so the algorithms are opaque.

  • How to use connection pool with RDBMSRealm

    I am having a problem with the RDBMSRealm. The problem is that the connection defined in the .realm_properties file times out after 1 hour. My solution was to use the connection pool defined in the weblogic.properties file, but the realm_proprties are read before the connection pool is created so it did'nt work.Is there anyway of controling the order of which WLS reads various properties?If no, is there any way of setting "autorefresh" on the connection defined in the .realm_properties file?I'am using WLS 5.1, S.P 8, WIN2000 and Sybase. It works fine except for the timeout.Please help-Marius

    I've been struggling to find a way to use a weblogic connection
    pool or datasource nicely, and have failed with whatever I've tried.
    There is a chicken and egg problem here. The connection pool needs
    security to initialize itself, and security needs a connection
    pool. So that will not work.
    I've tried the follwing, which almost worked. Weblogic falls
    back to the default realm if your custom realm returns null for
    any user or group requests. So if your custom realm is not capable
    of reading info from the database, return null. The default realm
    will take over, and allow the connection pool to initialize if
    you allow everybody (or users defined in the weblogic.properties
    file) access to the pool. Then define a datasource which points
    to the pool.
    After the server starts, security can then use JNDI to look up
    the datasource, and all seems well. However, in some instances
    (it seems like calls for a bean), where security and jndi can get
    into infinite loops where jndi performs a security check when doing
    the lookup, so they both end up asking each other for information.
    So if anyone knows how to successfully use a connection pool or
    DataSource in a custom realm, I would love to know how.
    For you, I would suggest you don't try and use a connection pool,
    but figure out how to refresh your connection. You can do it manually
    by taking your connection, checking if it's valid before using
    it, if not, then open a new one.

  • How to configure connection pooling in tomcat?

    how to configure connection pooling in tomcat and how to use the connection pooling in the jsp and servlets?

    thanks for the reply, i have configured the connection pool settings in the tomcat.
    I created a class with static method, which will return the connection object.
    whenever i need the connection object, iam invoking the static method, once its usage is over iam closing thew connection..
    is it the right way of using the connection object in the web application.

  • View # of current Connection of jdbc connection pool

    Do you guy know of ANY METHODS of viewing # of current database Connection of jdbc connection pool in SUNAPP SERVER?
    for example i have jdbc/Dashboard Connection Pool in SUNAPP SERVER and I wanted to view, at any point of time, how many connection database that it is being utilized during that time. The reason I wanted to see the # of currection jdbc connection is because my Max (400connections) ran out or hanging really long period of time.
    Thanks,
    Kelvin

    There is no way currently to do this
