How to connect access database through oracle sql prompt
i want to connect access database via oracle , i am trying to import all the data in Access table into oracle table how it is possible .
A.RThe simplest way, if You have already created tables in Oracle DB, is to open the Access MDB, link Oracle tables via ODBC and build a query to append rows reading from Access tables to Oracle tables.
Hope this helps

Issues connecting to sql 2005 database using Oracle sql developer 1.2
I just installed the sql developer and was trying to use the quick migrate to try a migration from a sql server to oracle..
I am getting the following error message when i click on the retrieve database after entering the database credentials
Status : Failure net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.driver
I am getting another error message when i click on the 'test' button
Status: Failure - Unable to find driver: net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.driver
I downloaded the jtds driver from source forge and i am wondering what I should do to get the sql developer to make successful connections to sql server.
Any help is appreciated.
ThanksI have the same issue with both version 1.1.3 of the SQL developer and the latest version(1.2.1). I have added the jar file path in tools->preferences->Database->Third Party etc...
I got the jar file from this download: jtds-1.2.2-src.zip
I get this error when trying to connect to an sql server:
oracle.jdeveloper.cm.CMException: Unable to find driver: net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver

Any help would be appreciated. I like the tool would hate to have to abandon it, it works like a charm on our oracle databases. -
Able to connect via Oracle SQL Developer, but not sql plus
Using Oracle 10.2.0.
I can connect using the TNS connection type in SQL Developer, but cannot do so in SQL PLUS. SQL Plus gives me the error -- could not resolve the connect identifier.
When I do tnsping USPO_ADHOC, I get:
C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias
Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION =
TNS-12533: TNS:illegal ADDRESS parameters
So here is my tnsnames.ora file:
INTL_ADHOC =
(DESCRIPTION =

(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = intl1)

(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.239.162.109)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = USSYN)
USPO_ADHOC =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.239.162.107)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = uspo)
Any assistance gratefully appreciated. Thanks.I actually did not have that environmental variable, so I added it, but nothing changed.
I would note that if I do tnsping foo, I get: failed to resolve name.
If I do tnsping USPO_ADHOC, I get: illegal address parameter.
In both cases, the output correctly identified the path to my sqlnet.ora file, which is in the same directory as my tnsnames.
So I would conclude from that, that the system was already able to find my tnsnames file.
Anyway, here's my sqlnet.ora:
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
Thanks again for any ideas! -
Help how to connecting Oracle SQL Developer 3.0 with Oracle Database 11g
Hello,
I'm new in oracle developer yesterday i setup in my laptop database 11g the last version (11.2.0.1.0), well i follow steps still i got succeed to install, and i got my local host URL and i test my user name and password work very well, my problem now is i try to connect database 11g using Oracle SQL Developer 3.0 (3.0.04.34) but always filed and with my little experience i don't know where the wrong. as i said i test database after finish install is work fine the my URL is https://Ahmed-HP:1158/em and i test my username and password that i already set before is enter normal in my local database, please i need help to know how i connect database with Oracle SQL Developer 3.0 (3.0.04.34).
Thanks,885173 wrote:
EdStevens, thanks for your quick answer, sorry for my explain was doesn't clear, i open oracle sql developer and choose new connection i set connection name system_orcl username:system password:*i set my password that i create when i setup database*
-Now the link that i got after finish install database is https://Ahmed-HP:1158/em so i have question about this point Hostname and port if the link to access database is this https://Ahmed-HP:1158/em so this mean i typing at Hostname:localhost and port:1158 ?
because the message when i test connection always is filed and I'm sure i typing username and password and SID:orcl as i set when install database.port 1158 is what the dbcontrol (Oracle Enterprise Manager) is listening on. OEM is NOT the database. As far as the database is concerned, OEM is "just another client".
Actually, the database doesn't listen for requests on any port. There is another process, the "listener" that listens for requests to connect to the database. Typically, it listens on port 1521. You should have a tnsnames.ora file set up to resolve a connection request to the correct host. You can read more on this at http://edstevensdba.wordpress.com/2011/02/09/sqlnet_overview/ -
SQL Server database (read-only mode) in Oracle SQL Developer
Hello,
I connected SQL server database with Oracle SQL Developer 3.2.10.09, everything looks good except i can only browse data, i cannot change data in tables cannot insert new or delete rows. Query is also disabled (i got message: Query Builder is not supported for this connection type.) I used Third Party JDBC Drivers - jtds-1.2.6.jar as my connection to SQL server. Is there a way to change data in tables?
Thank you.AFAIK editing table data in the grid is only possible with an Oracle database. On MS SQL you'll have to use update statements in the worksheet.
Hope that helps,

Problem in connection to Oracle SQL Developer
Hi All,
I am trying to connect to remote machine database through Oracle SQL Developer, it is giving me teh following error.
Status: Faliure -Test failed :io connection :The Network Adapter could not establish the connection .
I had given the hostname as the name which is assigned to that server, it didnt work.
Later i tried with the IP address of the Server, it worked.
Can anybody tell me how can i connect by giving hostname instead of the IP address.
Thanks in advance,
VinayHi Vinay,
One way would be to add an entry in your hosts file. On windoze you can find this in
%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc

New query for 'Manage Database' option in SQL Developer
Dear all,
I want to suggest a changed query for the 'Manage Database' option in SQL Developer (right-click on the connection), see the query below.
This query has the following changes;
- extra column with the Maximum disk space based on the datafiles (considering autoextend of datafiles); MAX_DATAFILES
- the PERCENT_USED and PCT_USED are based on the MAX_DATAFILES, as this is really important (and not the difference between ALLOCATED and USED)
- the results are shown in GB, as that is in my opinion more relevant in this time of data explosion
- rename of the column FREE to UNUSED_ALLOCATED, as this column identifies how much of the Allocated space is not used
I hope the query can replace the current one, to improve SQL Developer even more.
Thanks for the nice tool SQL Developer!
Kind regards,
Siebe

)Very little technical information provided about the error.
"+IO error.+" - this likely refers to the client attempting to use a socket handle and the call to the handle failing.
+"The network adapter could not establish the connection.+" - this likely means that the IP address to connect to, could not be reached, or that the connection was not accepted on that port on the remote IP address. (typically hostname resolution errors would give a different error)
The easiest way to test connectivity is using the ping command to bounce an ICMP echo off the remote IP.
If that works, test access to remote port on that remote IP using the telnet command - this will check whether there is a service accepting connections on that port, and whether access to that port is allowed in case of firewalls en-route. -
I recently started working on the Oracle SQL developer. I have 'select' privileges on the QA schema and when tried to execute proc in QA. It is giving the error as 'The file-based source <procedure Name> is not present in the database. Was it compiled?'
instead 'you do not have sufficient privileges to execute this procedure'. Did research on internet but with no luck. What configuration changes needed to be done to make it work.Guide me.Sounds like you do not have the correct privileges. What should have been granted to you by the QA user, or some other user with appropriate privileges, is...
grant EXECUTE on "QA"."<PROCEDURE_OF_INTEREST>" to "<YOUR_USERID>" ;
Note that a grant of execute on a procedure has nothing to do with grants of select on some or all of QA's tables and views.
So, as Vadim suggests, from your connection node in SQL Developer's Connections view, if you expand the Other Users node, then expand QA and look in the Procedures node, do you see the procedure of interest? If not, you cannot expect to be able to execute it from your userid's connection. And even if you do see it, you may have some other privilege that permits viewing but not executing, like...
The role SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE
The system privilege SELECT ANY DICTIONARY
And even if you do not see it there, then having certain other privileges granted to you could permit executing it in general, like...
The role EXECUTE_CATALOG_ROLE
The system privilege EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE
Also, note that the 3.0 release is a bit dated nowadays. Upgrading to 4.0.3 production or even the 4.1 EA2 (early adopter) release will, in general, give you a better experience.
Best wishes,

Connecting to HR schema in Oracle SQL Developer
I have installed Oracle sql developer 3.2 version. And I dont have oracle client installed.
Can I connect to HR schema with this set up.
If yes ,please suggest me the credentials.
Thanks. You do not need any oracle client installed, you do however need a database somewhere to connect to.
The credentials you require would be for this database, and so we cannot help you get them.
If you have a DBA that manages your databases ask him for the credentials.
If you are on your own and just want to try out something, your best option is to install an Oracle XE on your own system, then you can connect with the defaults SQLDeveloper already has when creating a new connection (the system password will be set during database installation so note it down), then you can play with your newly installed database. -
Oracle SQL developer 3.2.20.09 connection problem
hello everyone. I just installed oracle SQL developer on mavericks. active JDK is 1.6.0_65. host name : som3a... now the problem is , whenever i try to make a new connection using the previous info and specifiying the default port 1433 i always get the following error
Status : Failure -Test failed: Cannot connect to Microsoft SQL Server on som3a
- can these fields ( connection name , username ,password ) take any values or do they need to be something special like ? i mean the host name must be som3a right so do the same constraint apply on these fields ?
-i tried telnet som3a 1433 , it gets stuck at "trying..."I think you have the wrong forum, as this forum is dedicated to the Oracle Database Cloud Service.

Connection Name: DB1 (this is my database name as well)
Username: SYS (this is the user name I used to login to the Console)
Password: SYS (this the password used to login to the Console)
Connection Type: Basic
Host Name: localhost
Port: 1158

to find the hostname open terminal/command prompt in oracle installed machine
type ---> hostname

you can find the ipaddress of the server
port number: 1521 (default) ----> i guess , else check the port number in the tnsnames.ora file under your ORACLE_HOME/network/admin folder
SID: DB1

IBM DB2 to Oracle Database Migration Using SQL Developer
Hi,
We are doing migration of the whole database from IBM DB2 8.2 which is running in WINDOWS to Oracle 11g Database in LINUX.
As part of pre-requisites we have installed the Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.1 (4.0.1.14.48) in Linux Server with JDK 1.7. Also Established a connection with Oracle Database.
Questions:
1) How can we enable the Third Party Database Connectivity in SQL Developer?
I have copied the files db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar from the IBM DB2 (Windows) to Oracle (Linux)
2) Will these JAR files are universal drivers? will these jar files will support in Linux platform?
3) I got a DB2 full privileged schema name "assistdba", Shall i create a new user with the same name "assistdba" in the Oracle Database & grant DBA Privillege? (This is for Repository Creation)
4) We have around 35GB of data in DB2, shall i proceed with ONLINE CAPTURE during the migration?
5) Do you have any approx. estimation of Time to migrate a 35 GB of data?
6) In-case of any issue during the migration activity, shall i get an support from Oracle Team (We have a Valid Support ID)?
7) What are all the necessary Test Cases to confirm the status of VALID Migration?
Request you to share the relevant metalink documents!!!
Kindly guide me in-order to go-ahead with the successful migration.
Thanks in Advance!!!

[email protected]Hi Klaus,
Continued with the above posts - Now we are doing another database migration from IBM DB2 to Oracle, which is very less of data (Eg: 20 Tables & 22 Indexes).
As like previous database migration, we have done the pre-requirement steps.
DB Using SQL Developer
Created Migration Repository
Connected with the created User in SQL Developer
Captured the Source Database
Converted Captured Model to Oracle
Before Translation Phase we have clicked on the "Proceed Summary"
Captured Database Objects & Converted Database Objects has been created under PROJECT section.
Here while checking the status of captured & converted database objects, It's showing the below chart as sample:
