ConnectionFactory createConnection()??

Hi,
I found the following on the J2EE tutorial on [http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/tutorial/doc/index.html], Chapter 33.
* Look up connection factory and destination. If either
* does not exist, exit. If you look up a
* TopicConnectionFactory or a QueueConnectionFactory,
* program behavior is the same.
ConnectionFactory connectionFactory = null;
Destination dest = null;
try {
  connectionFactory = (ConnectionFactory)
    jndiContext.lookup("jms/ConnectionFactory");
  dest = (Destination) jndiContext.lookup(destName);
} catch (Exception e) {
  System.out.println("JNDI API lookup failed: " +
    e.toString());
  e.printStackTrace();
  System.exit(1);
//// -------------Here's the problem----------
Connection connection =
  connectionFactory.createConnection();
Session session = connection.createSession(false,
  Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);Looks like they are using some API other than JMS (maybe EJB) because there is no createConnection() method for javax.jms.ConnectionFactory.
So.......how can we use standalone JMS without EJB?

  • JMS: Cannot initialize ConnectionFactory

    Hi all,
    I am learning JMS and so I have downloaded "Java EE SDK 5 Update 2" (available at https://sdlc5a.sun.com/ECom/EComActionServlet;jsessionid=500D73F57050D281F4B6B 5289DA3C254) and installed it on my window machine. From the package, I can use "Sun Java System Application Server" to define the necessary resources used in the JMS example programs. I have followed the instruction to create the resources before I run the example with the following output to confirm that ConnectionFactory, Queue and Topic are successfully created:
    C:\temp>asadmin list-jms-resources
    jms/Queue
    jms/Topic
    jms/ConnectionFactory
    Command list-jms-resources executed successfully.
    C:\temp>
    However, I got NullPointerException for when I executed the Producer.java (http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/examples/jms/simple/producer/src/java/Producer.java) that the ConnectionFactory cannot be created:
    @Resource(mappedName = "jms/ConnectionFactory")
    private static ConnectionFactory connectionFactory;
    Connection connection = connectionFactory.createConnection(); // NullPointerException here
    Do you think I have sth missing to be defined or created in the "Sun Java System Application Server" or anything else?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    *Do you know initialize the InitialContext before the ConnectionFactory? After initialization, you have to look up for them in your JNDI.
    Connection connection = connectionFactory.createConnection(); // NullPointerException hereDo you think I have sth missing to be defined or created in the "Sun Java System Application Server" or anything else?Except that, you have to add all of those necessary jar files in your CLASSPATH. Read the instillation and configuration document for your application server.

    Hi,
    Did you create your destinations in your application server? It seems that the destinations such as topics and queues are not created. First you should create them and then start using them.
    For example, in here, it says that jndi/Topic is not valid. To check if the destinations are valid or not; you can do it either through the graphical user interface or the command line console.

  • "Cannot perform operation, connection is closed" with Open MQ 4.4

    I am using Sun MQ 4.4 with Glassfish 2.1.1 on Red Hat 5.7.
    I am able to install glassfish cluster and all the instances are running fine. But, when I try to send a message to a topic, I get following exception
    javax.jms.IllegalStateException: [C4062]: Cannot perform operation, connection is closed.
    at com.sun.messaging.jmq.jmsclient.ConnectionImpl.checkConnectionState(ConnectionImpl.java:2468)
    at com.sun.messaging.jmq.jmsclient.XAConnectionImpl.createSession(XAConnectionImpl.java:105)
    at com.sun.messaging.jms.ra.ConnectionAdapter.createSession(ConnectionAdapter.java:383)
    Following is part of the stateless EJB where I am creating the session.
    @PostConstruct()
    private void init() {
    if (connectionFactory == null) {
    if (log.isTraceEnabled()) log.trace("Connection factory not set. Retrieving from server context.");
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    connectionFactory = (ConnectionFactory) ic.lookup("jms/testConnectionFactory");
    if (log.isTraceEnabled()) log.trace("Creating JMS connection.");
    connection = connectionFactory.createConnection();
    @WebMethod()
    public void send(){
    Session session = null;
    session = connection.createSession(true, Session.SESSION_TRANSACTED);
    I am trying to install these on a couple of new machines. Same application works on other machines so I am guessing this is a configuartion issue somewhere on these servers.
    My question is what would be a good way to find the cause of this failure.
    I have turned on log level to finest for ejb-container, jms, RA through glassfish Admin console, but no useful information.
    Also, I don't have the name of the servers in DNS yet. I am using IP address for specifying instances.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks
    Vineet

    Hi Tom,
    I used the demo/helloworld/helloworldmessage.java sample.
    By the way, I should add that the broker log contains lines like:
    [B1066] Closing [email protected]:2461 because "[B0061]: Client exited without closing connections"
    Is this what one would expect for a connection.close() ?
    It almost seems that this is happening only when the connection is nulled explicitly or the connection object is destroyed.
    One last thing:
    I was led down the garden path. The reason for the server being thread starved was that there were indeed connections not being closed/nulled.
    Thanks in advance,
    Patrice

  • I am not able to create a JMS connection from a custom component in UCM

    I am trying to create a custom component which makes a JMS connection and inserts messages in JMS Queue.
    THe JMS server is hosted on Weblogic Application Server.
    When the code runs I am getting the factory object and the queue object.
    But when I try to get a connection it throws an error as pasted below.
    WHen I googled the same error It has shown a simliar problem in TOmcat in sun thread
    It said two jar files xerces.jar and xml-apis.jar are obsolete.
    I replaced with the new version.
    still the same problem occurred

  • JMS message not getting delivered

    I'm trying to create a simple MDB with JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.
    I've tried to configure the sender and receiver to use the embedded OC4J message service.
    The code compiles and runs without any errors but the message doesn't seem to get delivered to the MDB.
    How could I debug message delivery in this case?
    What could be causing the message delivery to fail?
    Here's the code from a session bean that sends the message:
    @Resource(mappedName="jms/Topic/testTCF") private ConnectionFactory connectionFactory;
    @Resource(mappedName="jms/Topic/testTopic") private Topic topic;
    public void sendMessage() {
    try {
    Connection con = connectionFactory.createConnection();
    Session session = con.createSession(true, 0);
    MessageProducer producer = session.createProducer(topic);
    TextMessage msg = session.createTextMessage();
    msg.setText("hello");
    producer.send(msg);
    con.close();
    } catch (JMSException e) { }
    MDB:
    @MessageDriven(activationConfig = {
    @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName="connectionFactoryJndiName", propertyValue="jms/Topic/testTCF"),
    @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName="destinationName", propertyValue="jms/Topic/testTopic"),
    @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName="destinationType", propertyValue="javax.jms.Topic")
    public class MessageReceiver1Bean implements MessageListener {
    public void onMessage(Message message) {
    System.out.println("hello");
    Message service configuration:
    <jms-server port="9227">
    <queue location="jms/Queue/testQueue" name="queue"/>
    <queue-connection-factory location="jms/Queue/testQCF"/>
    <topic location="jms/Topic/testTopic" name="topic"/>
    <topic-connection-factory location="jms/Topic/testTCF"/>
    <log><file path="../log/jms.log"/></log>
    </jms-server>

              A few questions to better understand your case,
              1) are you using pub/sub (topics) or ptp (queues) ?
              2) are you producing inside a transaction (either use JTA or jms transacted session)
              3) do you use/set TimeToDeliver parameter ?
              4) when you monitor, do you see your messages under pending count ?

  • Strange problem in MDB!!!

    Hi,
    Iam sending messages to a queue(MyQueue) using JMS and MDB is consuming them. But the problem is that the MDB is not getting invoked for all messages and this doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes it works perfectly fine and sometimes it doesn't consume any messages or just consumes only some of the messages. I think the configuration is fine.
    Iam using JBoss 4.0.4, EJB 3.0, JavaEE 5.0
    Relevant snippets of configuration files and code are as follows:
    1) jbossmq-destinations-service.xml --- added a new queue
    <mbean code="org.jboss.mq.server.jmx.Queue"
         name="jboss.mq.destination:service=Queue,name=MyQueue">
    <depends optional-attribute-name="DestinationManager">
    jboss.mq:service=DestinationManager</depends>
    </mbean>
    2) Code using JMS API
    context = new InitialContext();
    connectionFactory =
    (ConnectionFactory)context.lookup("ConnectionFactory");
    destinationName = "queue/MyQueue";
    Queue testExecutionQueue =
    (Queue)context.lookup(destinationName);
    connection = connectionFactory.createConnection();
    session = connection.createSession(false,
    Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
    msgProducer = session.createProducer(testExecutionQueue);
    connection.start();
    ObjectMessage message = session.createObjectMessage();
    message.setObject(msg);
    msgProducer.send(message);
    // Close the connection
    3) MDB
    // Only the annotations --- others are not required I guess
    @MessageDriven(activationConfig = {
    @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName="destinationType",
    propertyValue="javax.jms.Queue"),
    @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName="destination",
    propertyValue="queue/MyQueue") })
    Thats it. In the JBoss configuration file, I only changed the file mentioned in 1).
    The problem is strange because it happens sometimes and works perfectly at other times.
    Where am I going wrong?
    Thank you.

    Initially I started off with queue/testQueue. I noticed that the Receivers Count in the JBoss JMX Console was 2. I switched to the new queue (MyQueue). Its receivers count is 1. But still sometimes I have the same problem.
    Correct me if I am wrong here -- If there are more than 1 receivers for a single queue (which shouldn't be the case) then it produces unexpected behaviour and it could lead to the situation I am facing.
    Are there any other things that I should look into? Because this happened with a new queue also.
    Thank you.

  • Sun Java System Application Server 8.2 PE With Sun MQ 4.1

    Hi,
    I sucessfully deployed my bvrowser application on sjsas8.2-PE on solaris Sparc machine. As we all know sjsas8.2 comes with Sun MQ 3.7 but i want to use Sun MQ 4.1 instead. I sucessfully installed the Sun MQ 4.1 on sparc machine as a separate instance. Am I right here????....
    If I am right than what do i have to do to use MQ 4.1 instead of using default application server MQ 3.7. Do i have to upgrade the MQ instance??? My server support the JMS using following Xml....format...If I provide the information correctly....

    <SECURITY_CREDENTIALS></SECURITY_CREDENTIALS> *<---- We can ignore this*
    </JNDI>
    </LISTENER>
    I do not have any idea how to work around this...please help....
    Thanks in advance:)

    I found out the solution.... First of all we do not need to integrate Sun MQ 4.1 with Application server.Please find out the procedure below to work around with Sun Application Server 8.2 PE and Sun MQ 4.1 using your application.
    Installation Required_
    Sun Application Server 8.2
    Sun MQ 4.1
    Process_ (steps are same for all platform, I used Sun Solaris Sparc machine with Linux - Command line)
    *1)* First of all start you MQ 4.1 Broker on some port using command:
    $ imqbrokerd -port <port_num> (7676 is already used by Application Server MQ v 3.7 so try some other say 7677)
    Now from another session add your physical destinations to this broker we have started on <ip_address>:<port_num> using commands
    $ imqcmd -b <ip_address>:<port_num> create dst -t q -n QIN
    $ imqcmd -b <ip_address>:<port_num> create dst -t q -n QOUT .... and so on
    You can check your destination using following commands:
    $ imqcmd -b <ip_address>:<port_num> list dst - will show you following screen shot
    Username: admin
    Password:
    Listing all the destinations on the broker specified by:
    Host Primary Port
    10.44.5.14 7677
    Name Type State Producers Consumers Msgs
    Total Count UnAck Avg Size
    QIN Queue RUNNING 0 0 0 0 0.0
    QOUT Queue RUNNING 0 0 0 0 0.0
    mq.sys.dmq Queue RUNNING 0 0 0 0 0.0
    Successfully listed destinations.
    Now our queues are ready to ROCK!!!!
    *2)* Secondly create a JMS connection factory using Application Server GUI with address list 'mq://<ip_address>:<port_num>'
    *3)* That's it. You are ready to use this connection factory and queues. I am copying a test application which sends data to queue and retrieves it back as follows: (*Note: I added appserv-admin.jar, appser-rt.jar, j2ee.jar/javaee.jar (both worked for me) and imqjmsra.jar in my test application lib directory as an external jar files)*

  • JMS (Transaction ???) problem, consumer receives all messages at once.

    Hallo, I have an application which implements asynch communication between the web and business layer using JMS.
    On a page a user can upload files, which are processed by the backend. For large files this can be a long running process, thats why we use JMS to send the file asynchronously and use JMS to update progress information on the page.
    The application works fine on JBoss 6 with HornetMQ.
    After porting to Weblogic I see consistently a strange phenomenon. The update messages from the processing backend logic are send as expected. But the receiver does not receive one message after another but receives all the messsages almost at once after only the producer has sent the last message.
    For me this is totally unexpected behavior and of course our progress bar on the page does not work properly, but merely jumps from 0 to 100% after the data has been processed.
    It looks like the consumer waits until the producer has finished its transaction. But how can this be possibly? I have learned that transaction never span producer - messagesystem - consumer.
    Example Code:
    Producer:
    import javax.annotation.PostConstruct;
    import javax.annotation.PreDestroy;
    import javax.annotation.Resource;
    import javax.ejb.EJB;

    Thanks for posting your analysis!
    I think your solution is probably best.
    FYI: Your JMS session was never a "transacted" session. It's definitely confusing, but the term "transacted session" has a special meaning in JMS, it actually refers to a session that is not XA/JTA aware and instead maintains an internal local transaction that's scoped only to the current JMS session's operations. A transacted session is created by passing "true" to the first parameter of createSession, and such a session's local transaction is committed by calling session.commit() (which starts a new transaction). To further add to the confusion, I think that JEE servers are actually obligated to ignore requests to set the transacted flag to true -- WebLogic does this trick by secretly wrapping access to the JMS API when applications lookup JMS connection factories via a resource reference.

  • Sending message not working anymore in WL 12 (InvalidDestinationException)

    Hello,
    after installing a fresh WebLogic 12 sending JMS messages from a WebService doesn't work anymore. Although I'm using only WebLogic JMS stuff (no foreign providers) I receive the following exception upon messageProducer creation:
    weblogic.jms.common.InvalidDestinationException: [JMSClientExceptions:055142]Foreign destination, SystemModule-MyApp!Queue-MyApp
         at weblogic.jms.common.Destination.checkDestinationType(Destination.java:105)
         at weblogic.jms.client.JMSSession.setupJMSProducer(JMSSession.java:2830)
         at weblogic.jms.client.JMSSession.createProducer(JMSSession.java:2858)
         at weblogic.jms.client.JMSSession.createProducer(JMSSession.java:2822)
         at weblogic.jms.client.WLSessionImpl.createProducer(WLSessionImpl.java:827)
    at the following code
    connection = connectionFactory.createConnection();
    session = connection.createSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
    messageProducer = session.createProducer(queue);
    At first I thought that there's some config mess which might have happened during JMS ConnectionFactory and Queue creation etc. in WL_Server. But after cross-checking it I've even compared the complete JMS-relevant WL-setup (in the /console) with another WebLogic 11 instance where the stuff is working and found no differences: The only destination used is a regular resource of type "Queue" at the SystemModule and not of type "Foreign Server". So I wonder why I receive a foreign destination exception when no foreign JMS stuff is used...
    Do you have any ideas or tips where to investigate further? The only difference is that the codebase tested with WebLogic 12 uses CDI (coming with JavaEE 6) and the WebLogic 11 doesn't use CDI. In case this info is needed: the code trying to send the message to the queue is a simple @WebService.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your reply Dongbo!
    The point regarding the classname of the Queue object was quite good! Its a org.jboss.weldx.jms.Destination$Queue$1555984123$Proxy$_$$_Weld$Proxy$ class. So this looks to me as if WebLogic uses JBoss Weld internally (for CDI) ??
    The CDI-based injection of the Queue object from the JNDI is
    @Produces
    @MyAppTest
    @Resource(name="jms/Queue-MyApp", type=Queue.class)
    private Queue queue;
    An the JNDI view of jms/Queue-MyApp shows
    Binding Name:     jms.Queue-MyApp
    Class:     weblogic.jms.common.DestinationImpl
    toString Results:     SystemModule-MyApp!Queue-MyApp
    Attached the complete stack trace:

  • JMS Receiver Adapter - com.ibm.websphere.naming.WsnInitialContextFactory

    Hello experts,
    I am trying to configure JMS Adapter to Access Websphere Application Server via JNDI. The configuration is as follow:
    Initial Context Factory: com.ibm.websphere.naming.WsnInitialContextFactory
    Connection Factory: jms/messageQueueCF
    Server URL: iiop://ammtnode.iubs.intra:2809/
    Queue Name: jms/EXT_INPUT_QUEUE
    I deployed all required jar files but Iu2019m still unable to connect to WAS because adapter cannot initialize ORB:
    javax.naming.NamingException: Failed to initialize the ORB
    I wrote a small java class to check where the problem was:
    ============================================================================
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"com.ibm.websphere.naming.WsnInitialContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "iiop://ammtnode.iubs.intra:2809/");
    env.put("java.naming.corba.orb",org.omg.CORBA.ORB.init((String[])null,null));
    Context jndiContext = null;
    try {
    jndiContext = new InitialContext(env);
    ConnectionFactory connectionFactory = (ConnectionFactory) jndiContext.lookup("jms/messageQueueCF");
    Connection qConn = connectionFactory.createConnection();
    Session qSession = qConn.createSession(false,Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
    Queue q = (Queue) jndiContext.lookup("jms/EXT_INPUT_QUEUE");
    MessageProducer producer = qSession.createProducer(q);
    TextMessage message = qSession.createTextMessage();
    message.setText(text);
    producer.send(message);
    producer.close();
    qSession.close();
    qConn.close();
    } catch (Exception e) {
         e.printStackTrace();
    ============================================================================
    I got the same error until I wrote this line:
    env.put("java.naming.corba.orb",org.omg.CORBA.ORB.init((String[])null,null));
    And everything worked fine. Now I want to do the same in my JMS Receiver adapter but I donu2019t know how to introduce this line in the Initial Context Environment. I tried as JMS additional parameters and additional properties as well. However, nothing worked. Does anybody know what Iu2019m doing wrong?
    Thank you in advance!

  • JMS and Java EE 5 Tutorial

    Hello,
    I'm new to JMS and have been following Suns JMS tutorial here....
    [http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/bncfa.html#bncfc|http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/bncfa.html#bncfc]
    I followed the example for the Producer / SynchConsumer programs.
    I also created my resources using Sun Java Application Server.
    The code example uses annotations only (@Resource) and does not use JNDI lookup.
    My problem is that the annotations only solution, as described in the tutorial,
        @Resource(mappedName = "jms/ConnectionFactory")
        private static ConnectionFactory connectionFactory;
        @Resource(mappedName = "jms/Queue")
        private static Queue queue;
        @Resource(mappedName = "jms/Topic")
        private static Topic topic;give me a NullPointerException error when this code is run...
    connection = connectionFactory.createConnection();I've added JNDI lookup ....
            System.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial", "com.sun.appserv.naming.S1ASCtxFactory");
         System.setProperty("java.naming.provider.url", "iiop://111.222.333.109:3700");
         InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
         connectionFactory = (ConnectionFactory)ic.lookup("jms/ConnectionFactory");
         queue = (Queue)ic.lookup("jms/Queue");
         topic = (Topic)ic.lookup("jms/Topic");and it seems to work now....
    Anyone come accross this before?
    What am I missing from the annotations only solution?
    Thanks,
    Jon

    Hi,
    Previously I was trying to run this using Eclipse.
    I tried this using NetBeans IDE and the annotations worked fine.
    Problem solved.
    /Jon
