Contacts: where is the local data file saved?

Where does Mountain Lion store the local data file for the Contacts app?

It isn't a file. It is a collection of files, indexed with a sqlite3 database, which is all stored in your user Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder.
To get to your User Library, in the Finder, hold down the option (alt) key and select Library from the Go menu.

I am currently taking the course "C# Fundamentals" from Bob Tabors site:  LearnVisualStudio.NET .  I'm on day 8 where we are integrating SQL Server with C#.  In Lesson 6 and 7, (havent' gotten past these two) I am having an
issue.  In Lesson 6, "Retrieving Data with ADONET 2 in a Connected Scenario (SQL Server Compact Edition) when I go to create the data file I get the error message I typed into the title.  I cannot get the db to appear in the Solution
Explorer, or open up so I can create a table.  When I try to skip by that lesson, and complete lesson7, I'm running into the same basic problem, where the error messages are different but I get an exception when I attempt to run the program.  Even
though I have been able to create the table for this lesson, the Exception states I have an invalid object name 'Customers' which is the name of the table. I have tried reading several different suggestions for correcting this issue, but have not understood
exactly what I need to do.  Since I work from home on my computer, I do not want to do anything with files or downloads unless I understand what I need to do, cause I do not want to lose my job.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi
According to your error message, we need to verify if Microsoft SQL Server Compact appears in the
Change Data Source dialog. If not, you need to install
SQL Server Compact components for Visual Studio firstly, and if you choose to install SQL Server Compact 4.0 , you should note that SQL Server Compact 4.0 supports in Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 or later versions. I recommend you to install the latest
Service Pack (SP) of SQL Server Compact, and latest SP of Visual Studio, then check if the error still occurs. For more information, see:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlservercompact/archive/2011/03/15/sql-server-compact-4-0-tooling-support-in-visual-studio-2010-sp1-and-visual-web-developer-express-2010-sp1.aspx
However if there is no problem with the installation of SQL Server Compact, it will be an issue that regards ASP.NET and website deployment. I suggest you to post the question in the ASP.NET forums at
http://forums.asp.net/ . It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.
In addition, you can review the following link:

  • Where are the HTML/Source files saved on Macintosh when I click "Preview"?

On the Mac, I typically expect files to save to my WebServer directory as:
    /Library/WebServer/Documents
However, I cannot find the temporary html, css, scripts when I preview my site/page with the default or my localhost ip address:
    http://192.168.1.xxx:33333/Preview/website-1/index.html
    http://localhost:33333/Preview/website-1/index.html

When working in Muse the HTML/CSS/JavaScript of the site doesn't exist.
Unlike Edge Reflow (and the other Edge tools) Muse is not an HTML/CSS editor. Working in Muse is like working in InDesign or Word or any number of other applications. Muse has it's own representation of things and that makes it easier for us to provide a user experience that avoids many of the idiosyncrasies and limitations of HTML/CSS. It also lets up improve and evolve the HTML/CSS that's output to keep pace with the evolving web.
With Muse HTML/CSS is only generated when a page is exported (for preview, publish, upload, etc.) and the HTML/CSS that's generated is never read back in. It's like a PDF created from InDesign. HTML/CSS is the output. It's not the original file(s).
For the question of Web Fonts beyond those available via the Font menu, the specifcs depend on the web font hosting service you're using. However the general approach is the same. In most cases it involves applying paragraph or character styles to the text in Muse (which end up being classes in the HTML/CSS), using a web-safe font in Muse (so the code gen is live text) and then setting up the web fonts to be used by those classes.
The snippet of code that generally needs to go in the head of each page to load the webfonts can be inserted in the Page Properties dialog for the master page (or each individual page) in Muse.
With this approach the font will be incorrect in Muse Design view. (It will be whatever web-safe font was selected.) But it should display as the correct font when Previewed and Published/Uploaded.

  • Not able to download the complete data to the local PC file

    Hi,
I have a BDC program where I am creating an Unix file and later downloading the same to the local PC file(Text file).
As far as creating the Unix file is concerned, there are no issues. It is working fine.
When I try to download the data to the local file(in my case.. it is Text file), it is not downloading the complete data. I mean, it is saying that 3,94,654 records are processed. But, it is downloading around 94,000 records only to the Text file. Approximately, 3,00,000 records are missing when downloading.
Can anyone tell me what the reason might be..?
My doubt is.... will there be any limit to the number of records to be downloaded to the local PC file(say text file).
    Thanks in advance...
    Best Regards,
    Paddu.

    Hi,
I have a similar program running for over 5 Lac records.
There could be issues with memory. Also check in debug if the internal table holds the complete records. If everythings fine then as suggested in upper reply
Create internal tables with 90,000 records and use FM GUI_DOWNLOAD with importing parameter APPEND = 'X' and with the same filename and same path.
    Hope it helps.

If you erased or replaced your hard drive since iWeb was cancelled, then they are gone. Otherwise, if you have maintained backups then check those.
Usually such files are in the /Home/Library/ folder or a sub-folder.
    Exposing the /Home/Library/ Folder
Pick one of the following methods:
    A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.
    B. Click on the Desktop, press the OPTION (⌥) button, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.
    C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field:
    ~/Library
    Press the Go button.

Since Windows system uses separated user mode and kernel mode memory space, stop errors are always caused by kernel portion components, such as a third-party device drivers, backup software or anti-virus services (buggy services).
The system goes to a BSOD because there is some exceptions happened in the kernel (either the device driver errors or the service errors), and Windows implements this mechanism: When it detects some errors occur in the kernel, it will kill the box in case
some more severe damage happens. Then we get a blue screen or the system reboots (it depends on what the system settings are).
To troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. A suggestion would be to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that
a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:
    Microsoft - Help and Support
If you are outside the US please see
Microsoft Worldwide Home for regional support phone numbers.
Meantime we can try some available steps as a general troubleshoot.
    1. Please remove the antivirus and run the system with a period. If the issue does not occur, mainly focus on antivirus settings and compatibility.
    2. Disable Automatic Restart and see detail information on the blue screen.
1).Click Start, in the Start Search box enter sysdm.cpl.
2).Click the tab Advanced. Under Startup and Recovery, click the Settings button.
    3). Uncheck “Automatically restart”.
4). On the drop-down menu “Write debugging information”, choose “Small memory dump”.
    5). Click OK.
When Blue Screen displays, you may find some useful information.

  • What are the real data files of an Oracle installation?

When I install an Oracle (XE) database then a lot of stuff is copied/setup:
*.exe, jdbc driver, service tools, scripts, config files,....
But which are the real data files (under WinXP)?
I mean the files where all the individual, personal table defintions, trigger code, inserted data records are stored?
As far as I heard these are only 9 files.
    Is this true?
What, if I copy just these 9 files to another Oracle XE installation on another computer and replace the 9 files over there?
Is all the content available at the remote computer after restart?

What, if I copy just these 9 files to another Oracle XE installation on another computer and replace the 9 files over there? No. Oracle is far more complex than that. The control file keeps info about the data files, including stuff like the last checkpoint scn, etc. If you just drop a new file on a different installation, even if the file has the same name and is in the same path, it won't match the info in the control file.
That's not to say there aren't ways to move a data file from one installation to another. But it is a lot more complex than simply dragging a file from one folder to another.

  • Error message 'The Outlook data file (.pst) failed to load for this session.' when adding PST in Outlook addin

    Hi All,
I have an Outlook (2003-2013) addin developed using C# (NOT VSTO).
A new client (using the desktop client for Outlook 365) has got a COMException error message stating 'The Outlook data file (.pst) failed to load for this session.' at the code line where I add the PST store (using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.NameSpaceClass.AddStoreEx).
I have never come across this error message before and there is barely any mention of this message on any forums. The only question I could find regarding this has been asked mid 2014 and hasn't been answered.
I'm fairly sure this is not related to either DisablePST or PSTDisableGrow registry key settings as I check fore their existance and notify the user separately.
Could anyone help me out on how to resolve this? I do not know where to begin even.
    Thanks!!
    Cheers!

    Hi Eugene,
    Thanks for the reply.
I pass the location that the PST is to be created (as a string), and the OlStoreType.olStoreUnicode constant.
The client is using a network location to store the PST file (even though we advised them not to) - leading to many corrupt PST files (that they are apparently happy to live with), but this is the first time we came across this message.
I would assume the problem is with that file, as no other clients are having any issue like this.
Have you come across this error message? Do you know what sort of scenario could be responsible for it?
Or would I have to file it under "random problems generated by network PSTs"? :P
    Cheers!

  • Using the cgicmd.dat file

In using the 9i report (pdf) format as a portlet
for portal we are required to supply the OID resource
under the ssoconn parameter . Since the numbers of users
are high and there seems to be no way other assigning programatically the resources ..
am wondering if i could use the cgicmd.dat file
i have seen examples for thing for jsp's but i dint see one for the rdf( pdf) formats run via rwservlet..
any pointer examplese would greatly help..

    Hi Deepa,
Take a look at the cgicmd.dat file that comes with the iAS installation
    ORACLE_HOME/reports/conf/
This file has examples for rwservlet as well as for jsp's. To quote from this file:
    ; Oracle9iAS Reports Services ;
    ; CGICMD.DAT ;
    ; Example CGICMD.DAT Mapping file ;
    ; Syntax:
    ; KEY : VALUE
    ; Where:
;     KEY - the first argument of the rwservlet URL request (case insensitive).
;     VALUE - command line parameters and/or special parameters.
; Keys can be referenced in the following ways:
; 1. Parameter on command line to the reports servlet
    ; e.g. http://machine/servlet/rwservlet?KEY
; 2. Parameter on command line to a reports jsp
    ; e.g. http://machine/mydir/myreport.jsp?KEY
    ; 3. Within a reports jsp - in the rw:report custom tag
    ; e.g. <rw:report parameters="KEY">

  • Captured analog video, where does the actual captured file go?

I am backing up old analog video 8 tapes to digital, using a Canopus ADVC-55 converter. The process is going just fine as far as I can tell, but I am sure I will have more questions as I get into this further. I am using FCP 6.04.
As an initial test, I completed a Capture Now (non-controllable device selected) of a short 30 min. analog tape, using an older video 8 Sony Handicam, running through the Canopus interfacing with FCP. Primarily I want to run through all these old tapes (about 15 of them…) and back them up onto a dedicated Iomega external firewire drive, to retrieve for later use.
Question du jour… Where the heck is the actual data file on the hard drive? Isn’t the file I see in the bin, from a result of the capture, just an alias pointing to the actual captured data file? The FCP document is only 24 KB, but I know the data file is much larger. I have searched the drive high and low but cannot locate it… Can anyone answer this? Also, I’ve read in discussions here about doing transfer to DV (I have a Canon digital camcorder I could use) rather than the hard drive… but if this is for backup purposes only, should that matter? And wouldn’t I lose a step of quality that way?

I understand Kevan. For the time being, all I wanted to do was get these old 8 mm tapes backed up to digital format because I am afraid the tapes will degrade. They are about 12 years old. I also have some VHS cassettes that are much older that I plan to back up also.
Eventually I would like to build some family movies and will use these files, but if you think I should be capturing into DV (I can use my Canon DV camcorder I guess) I will do that instead.
Also, I will go ahead and define the folder so I can find the files more easily in the future.
I sure appreciate that you are taking the time to answer these questions, thanks again.

Where are the actual Aperture files located? Only in the application? I am transitioning to Lightroom and would like to only move some of the files. Advice appreciated. Also anyone know how to transfer in with edits? Using iMac, OS X, most recent Aperture and Lightroom 5.7 with plugin for Aperture.

    Define "the Aperture files".
    Read this concise guide.
The files you imported into an Aperture Library can be exported (at any time, and repeatedly) using the command "File ▹ Export ▹ Originals".  Your Originals are never altered.  What went in is what comes out.
Adjustments and changes to the metadata that you made since creating an Image in Aperture by importing a file are saved to a text file.  This file is combined, on-the-fly, with the Original to create the Image that you see in Aperture.  There is no file saved to disk that is the full-size Image.  Thumbnails are saved, and Previews are saved.  These are JPG files, almost always smaller than the Original.  They are not substitutes for the Image for the use you have.
When you need a file of an Image to use in another program, you export the Image from Aperture.  "Export" means "Make me a file of this Image according to these file specs I'm providing".  The way to get files of your adjusted Images is simple:  create them by exporting.  Specify "Original size", and use a loss-less image-file format (e.g. TIFF 16-bit) if you want to retain as much visual information as possible.
Search the Web for information about transitioning from Aperture to Lightroom.  Note that I say "transitioning".  You cannot move a database from one format to another without significant changes, and likely some loss of information.  Adobe provides a tool and some instructions.  I strongly recommend working out the process step-by-step, and then proceeding with first a few Images, then a bushel-ful, and stopping to use the first few, the the bushel-ful, before committing your entire collection to the process.
As always, never use any computer file without having a back-up.
We have seen mixed reports here of the success of the LR tool that creates a LR database from your Aperture database.
If you want to carefully define the process, and test and refine it, use the excellent process-development, analysis, and execution program inShort.
Sadly, there is not and can never be a good, thorough re-positioning of the digital assets in your Aperture Library to become digital assets in a LR database.  Just as a metaphor for any user contemplating transitioning to another digital asset manager:  that would be like digging up a house in one country, planting it in a hole in another country, and expecting to be able to use the toilet and the sinks, turn on the lights, cook dinner, and sleep soundly.
    HTH,
    Kirby.
