Content Conversion trims values

Hi all - I'm using content conversion to bring in fixed-width fields from a flat MQ message - but my values are getting front & back spaces trimmed. I have set up the length parameter on the attributes of all my data types, as well as "preserve" for the whitespace facet. Any ideas? I need to keep the spaces, as the values should be stored in SAP EXACTLY the way the customer sends them to us.

Try out:
xml.fieldContentFormatting=trim|nothing
If you specify trim (the default setting), all blanks that proceed and follow a found value are removed.
If you specify nothing, the value remains unchanged.
A list of all parameters of the content conversion module, you find in the online documentation for Plain J2SE Adapter Engine -> Configuring Sender/Receiver File Adapter.

A couple of checkpoints for you:
1. When you load the XML from SXMB_MONI in the test tab of message mapping it turns red..this means the constructed XML (from CC content conversion) doesnt match the one (XSD) defined in your ESR/IR. In this case you have to check again thoroughly the file content conversion fields values/field length in the sender Communication chaneel.
2. Once you rectify the error above then you can test the mapping in ESR message mapping.

File Content Conversion - Error in keyfield Value

Hello experts,
I am doing file content conversion for a file to file scenario. The input file is a csv file which is converted to xml using the file content conversion. The key field of input file is used for implementing conversion.
While testing the FCC, I noticed that if the keyfield value is wrong for a record in the file, the record is ignored altogether without throwing any errors or warnings. Is there any way to notify if any records have been ignored as a result of incorrect keyfield value??

File Content Conversion - Key Field Value

Hi Experts,
I am using File to Idoc scenario for my mapping. In the receiver Communication channel, I am using File Content Conversion. My scenario is as follows :
I have a recordset with Header and Line items with Key Field Indicator as 'H' and 'L'. In some cases, the value for this Key Field is coming in as something other than 'H' and 'L'. I need to throw an exception when this Key Field is not 'H' or 'L'.
In the 'Content Conversion' tab, my attributes are as:
Header_Structure.keyFieldValue = 'H' and Line_Structure.keyFieldValue = 'L'. Is there any more attributes that I need to add ?

Spaces getting trimmed in file content conversion

Hi all,
I am converting a flat file to an XML file by XI. The problem which i am facing in file content conversion is that the spaces in flat file data are getting trimmed to one space in the XML in SXMB_MONI.
The data in flat file is like SOUTHSEA and HANTS is having nearly 8 spaces.
But the data in XML is:
SOUTHSEA HANTS PO5 2LZ PO5 2LZ020327 i.e. in XML, there is only 1 space between SOUTHSEA and HANTS.
The following parameters i have used in file content conversion:
.keyFieldValue '*'
.fieldSeparator 'nl'
.fieldNames RECORD_DATA
.ignoreRecordsetName true
I am taking each record of the flat-file in a single record RECORD_DATA in XML.
So can anyone tell me why the big spaces are getting trimmed to a single space eg. between SOUTHSEA and HANTS etc.

Key field values for file content conversion at sender communicationchannel

Hi all,
I am working on scenario File to Idoc.In this scenario at the sender side we configure the file content conversion for .CSV file.
In the flat file i am having more than one orders, XI will pick the file and creates a separate Idoc for each sales order at r/3.
We have similar fields "Order Item Number" both header and item.
If we got '00000' on the Header item then it should create a new idoc at the r/3 side other wise it will create line item.
Order item number will be 00000 for header but it will differ from order item to item.

Just check the Content Conversion Parameters- Recordset Structure.
If you have filled in this parameter with
Header,1,Item,1
then change it to
Header,1,Item,3

Content Conversion without key field value

Hi all,

I dont have any key field value in the header nor in the detail. Can this be achived using FCC or should i go for Java.

Content Conversion- Same keyfield value for two different sub structure

I have a scenario where the key field value for the 2 substructure of record structure is same.
MY XML structure is like this :

After content conversion I get a XML structure in which there is no ROW2 and all data within the fields of ROW2 are put under ROW1 as the key field values are identical.
In the records only the first field is constant (e.g. ROW).
How to handle such a scenario?

Unless you can somehow expand the key, I don't know that this is possible. The key implies uniqueness - and in your case, unfortunately, it isn't. Is there any way to edit the structure to make it more unique for you? Do you have any control or ability to change that?
Maybe if you add unique keys in your mapping, you can strip them off with content conversion on the way out using the parameter keyFieldInStructure=ignore?

Removing concurrent values in content conversion

Hi there
I have a file that looks like:
"Value1","Value2",Value3","Value4","Value5"
If I pick up this flat file I have to remove the " " arround the values. Is there a way to do this with content conversion? And then If I create the file again I have to put the " " back arround the values.

the options you have is;
1. write an udf and use it in every field to remove/add the "
2. write a simple java mapping that will remove all "

File Content Conversion. Default Value of beginSeparator

I have a scenario where i am using file Content Conversion to create a text file.
my structure is as following
MessageTypeName
FirstElement 1..1
SecondElement 1..1
Data 1..Unbounded
In the text file i just need the Content of Data to appear in each row.
So i gave the following CCP
SecondElement.fieldSeparator = 'nl'
SecondElement.endSeparator = 'nl'
But i am getting the first line as a blank line .
I do not need the first line as a blank line. Can someone suggest how to avoid the default blank first line.

Just check the below parameter's defined in the below example.
Below is the example when you have HEADER & ITEM structure.
FCC is case sensitive, give all the names in FCC same as your Data Type.
In Recordset Structure = Header,1,Item,*
Header.fieldFixedLengths = (field lengths) e.g. 1, 4, 7
Header.fixedLengthTooShortHandling=ignore
Header.endSeperator='nl'
Item.fieldFixedLengths = give the item field length as shown above
Item.endSeparator = 'nl'
Item.lastFieldsOptional = YES

File Content Conversion Sender. Enclosured info

Where 'x' means unuseful and unformatted lines, and 'a','b','c','d' are the fields to be parsed to xml.
I wonder whether there is a way, using FCC in the file sender adapter, to gather only the lines enclosured between '<START-OF-FILE>' and '<END-OF-FILE>'. There is no key field I can use.

I think u need to write a UDF to achieve the requirement.
And, I think there is a possibility to do it using content conversion.
Use set NameA.fieldFixedLengths for the unused data in the file.
use NameA.fieldContentFormatting - Enter trim to remove all the leading and subsequent blanks for a value found. This is the default.
If there is any field length restriction use NameA.fieldFixedLengths.
NameA.fieldSeparator & NameA.endSeparator shoulf be used.
NameA.additionalLastFields
If the inbound structure has more fields than specified in the configuration then the XML outbound structure is created as follows:
○ ignore
Outbound structure only contains the fields in the inbound structure
○ error
Conversion is terminated due to the incomplete inbound structure. An error message is displayed.
The default value is ignore. If you have defined the NameA.fieldFixedLengths parameter, the default value is error.

As per the client req I'm going with FCC. The file is picking fine with the FILE. But not picking with the FCC.
The parameters which I gave are as follows.
SOURCE I feel it is fine since file is picking fine and keeping the same for FCC also.

Processing Mode -- Delete
Empty-File Handling -- Process empty files

This was the configuration. But this is not working I monitored the Communication Channel and file is not reading and not getting deleting.
What actually went wrong in above configuration. Why it is not working.

There is no root node, so in your FCC you need to mention your RecordsetName and you can ignoreRecordSetName in result structure. Check the following blog simulates your requirement.

since in this case you dont seem to have a key value to figure out what your header is, it is better to go for a two level mapping. i.e first read all the data - each line as an xml tag. and in the first mapping group it as required and then use it for your original mapping.

Complex file content conversion in case of CSV file

Hi Friends,
What you see below is generated from Excel i.e excel file saved as CSV file. This file i need to map in XI.
Problem is i have to take only the data and not the header part.
for e.g in this particular line
Employee ID          :,,E00315
I need only E0315 and not the header value. Similarly i have to find some solution to map all the required data.
Please suggest me how to use file content conversion in such scenarios.
Solution is required on top priority. Points will be immdly rewarded.

Hi,
In this CSV file, what all i need is the value E00315 after the label Employee ID. I used in FCC the parameters u asked me to do. Also in the Document Offset i gave value 3 so that the first three lines are ignored.

But still i am getting the error
Conversion of file content to XML failed at position 0: java.lang.Exception: ERROR converting document line no. 4 according to structure 'tims_header':java.lang.Exception: ERROR in configuration / structure 'tims_header.': More elements in file csv structure than field names specified!
