       I have to convert Char30 format to quantity15 format and compare those to value.
      I have written code below . is the right ? is there any

be careful if you have unicode running in your system. URL_ASCII_CODE_GET is platform-dependent so it will return the internal HERX representation of the character in your system - which is hopefully and in most cases ASCII.
Under unicode, we use double-byte characters here. I tried this function and the result CHAR_CODE is '00' regardless what character I specify for TRANS_CHAR. But the coding is so simple I corrected resultig in this sample code:

Convert char to quantity

Do you know if there's any standard function module which converts a char into a field of type quantity? or, if there isn't any, do you know if it is possible to show in a table control field the value 0,000 when no quantity is introduced by the user and the field is set as modificable and as field of type quan instead of char?

First verify that the field you want to convert is a number. Try using the following function:

I want to set a format first for my dates

once this is done then I want to convert any string to date object in the above formate

First of all there is something wrong above,cus what I get for this is
Fri Jan 19 00:07:00 MST 2001
where as it should have been
2001-07-19... to my understanding.
once this part is done I need to get current date in the above set format and compare the
current date and the date I set.

for the output part:
a date is a point in time
the output depends on the format you specify for output
using for example a SimpleDateFormat.
You only specified the format for parsing (which is independent for that of output) so java uses some default format ... see the DateFormat.format() method for details.
for the comparison stuff, I just posted a little code snippet in this forum a few minutes ago.
the hint is: Date.getTime() returns milliseconds after a fixed date

I need to know best way to edit MXF files, with least rendering, is that converting the MXF or Log and Transfer? the end product is dvd, but I have lots and lots of these projects to do.

I am about to comence my Edit, and was told of Mpeg Streamclip, however this doesn't seem to work with my Canon XF305 Clips, the reason I was told to use it was so I wouldn't have to Render in Final Cut Pro all the time.. I do have the Canon Disc with the Plug in Utility and the update from their site.
Is it best to Convert these MXF files first and import them into FCP or use 'Log and Transfer', so far I am unable to do either!!
The projects on the timeline will have introduction .Movs already on it as a Template to re-use again and again with the new Footage ( MXF Files ) to be added and edited with transitions etc..This process is repeated again and again but with different MXF clips each time.
I am looking for the quickest and best way for workflow as there are 80 or more projects to do, each with 10 or so clips to be added to the timeline and Exported for DVD...Will I have to then Compress to fit onto DVD's??
I know Streamclip is an Mepeg 2 app but I thought the Canon XF305 Shot as mpeg2....
Is Log and Transfer my only Option?

We only work with PR422 files in FC7. We use Shane's workflow with all 5D & MXF footage.
Make your life easier and stick to the ProRes family for your footage and edit sequences. Avoid H264 & convert any you have to ProRes.
Unless you are considering Blu-Ray the only way to deliver video on a DVD is to convert it to SD.
Depending on the length of your show you can make a Blu-Ray in Compressor but you have very limited authoring options when compared to DVD Studio Pro.
Compressor can also convert your HD to SD mpg-2 & Ac3 files. The best results usually come from setting the frame controls in the mpg-2 setting of Compressor to best. Depending on the the length of the show and your Qmaster settings this can take quite a while.
I personally find Compressor's HD to SD DVD conversion varies. Sometimes it is wonderful and sometimes not so much. I prefer the following as it is usually is faster and very consistent.
Export a quicktime movie (not QT conversion) of your final sequence
Import the exported HD file back into FC.
Create a SD 16x9 sequence and then drop in the recently exported HD seq and render. Rendering the sequence basically has FC doing the HD to SD conversion. Export the SD sequence and then convert to mpg-2 & ac3 in Compressor. While this does take time I still find it faster than Compressor with Qmaster utilizing all cores.
Another option is using jobs in Compressor

In this workflow you would have Compressor convert the HD file to SD and then through jobs convert the SD file to mpg2 & Ac3.
In theory the jobs version could be faster (based on a number of variables- length, Qmaster, etc) but I haven't had time to compare the two.

Convert CHAR to INT4

Hi,
Is there any FM that allowes you to convert a variable type char into another one type int4?
I am working on SAP version 4.6C and haven't been able to find any except for 'CHAR_NUMC_CONVERSION' and 'MOVE_CHAR_TO_NUM', but none of them work with int4 type variables.
I also tried to pass the value directly like this "int4 = char", but i got a dump since the char variable contains ','. And in this sap version there no "replace all occurences of..." so i really cant replace all the comas.
Any answers will be appreciated.

How I can convert char * to LPCTSTR.

If your program is not using Unicode as the default, then "char *" is the same thing as LPCTSTR; the compiler will see the same thing, the only difference is that the preprocessor replaces LPCTSTR with "char *".
Your program however is probably using Unicode as the default. If so, then you need to convert the non-Unicode "char *" string to a Unicode string. There are many ways to do that and the most convenient solution for you depends on what your program is already using. If your program is using MFC then there is a MFC solution. If your program is using the CLI (.Net) then there is a different solution using that. If your program uses the C++ standard classes (std namespace) then there is a solution using that. There is also a solution using the C runtime and anotehr using the Windows SDK.

How to convert char to curr ?

Hi gurus.
Forgive me for the silly question.
I have a problem with data conversion from char to curr with 2 decimal places.
This is the scenario, I have a Z transaction which receives an excel file containing data from invoices and when the field contains a value such as 35,0 the program records the value 3.50 in the destination variable. But when the value is 35,45, it works.
Here is the piece of code:

If I format the column in the excel file for numeric value with 2 decimal places also works, because when the value is formatted 35,0 change to 35,00. But I can not tell all the users hey formatt your files before upload to SAP.
To test I generate a simple report that reads the excel file and makes the conversion of the columns, like the code above, so I had no problems. I think there should be some configuration that has been changed in the transaction, but I'm new in ABAP, I come from "Java World" and I have no idea that could be.
I could just use a quick and dirty solution, adding a zero at the end of the column, when there is the 2 decimal places, but I prefer a clean solution.
Guys, is there any function module or class that does that kind of data conversion? If not, you could tell me what is the best practice to solve this problem?

How to convert char(1) to int32 datatype in pl/sql

I am trying to convert char(1) to an integer data type to be put into an int32 variable in C#. I tried several options such as TO_NUMBER ,CAST(.. AS INTEGER), and CAST(.. AS SMALLINT) but they all return int64.
Is there a way to ensure the casting into a datatype that is compatible with int32 ?

Oracle's SQL Datatypes are limited to NUMBER, BINARY_FLOAT and BINARY_DOUBLE.
There's a few others through PL/SQL including BINARY_INTEGER.
If you look in USER_ARGUMENTS you can see it is defined slightly differently.
Don't know whether / how .Net infers datatypes, but it is worth a shot.

where pfield is a fieldsymbol type P. (honestly ist from type any, but determined by RTTI). I needed this cause i want to format the value from "outside" without taking the user settings in consideration as write...to.. is doing.
What i'm doing is to use the write... to... clause modifying the result (change decimal point, thousand separator and sign) according to the demanded decimal notation.

The MOVE statament automatically converts the data format
DATA: VAR_IN(8) TYPE C,
VAR_OUT TYPE P.
MOVE VAR_IN TO VAR_OUT.
It's important your char has only number and the point as separator of decimal part.

I am working on Char set conversion to and from UTF-7. However I cannot find and ChatToByte classes for UTF-7 in i18n.jar . Any ideas as how to proceed further with this issue. I feel that there must be a way since UTF-7 is a pretty popular charset especially in emails.

I had the same problem a couple of months ago. I didn't find any classes in the jdk distribution to do this, nor did I find any classes or package on the web that did this.
The solution? I got a bit of C code from one of my working mates and converted it to Java. I have the code, but my company own the code. I have to check if it�s ok to share this code with you.
BTW. If you find any package on the web that does this, pleas inform me.
