Convert CS3 XMP Panels to work with CS4

I have a series of custom XMP panels which we wrote to work with CS3. Now that we are about to migrate the balance of our users to CS4 and shortly everyone to CS5, I see that these panels no longer work. What is the easiest way to migrate these panels.
Thanks in advance,
Morgan

Hi,
we have made an experimental java tool to convert CS3 to CS4/5 panels.
Please find it attached and try it out if you like -- but I can offer no warranty :-)
Note that the approach is limited when it comes to the layout of the panel.
You need to adjust the generated MXML code.
It works as follows:
1. Find your CS3 panel (a txt file) and can call
java -jar EvePanelConverterApp.jar {Eve Input File} {MXML Output File}
The tool converts the panel based on an EVE (ZEVE) definition to an MXML file.
2. Use the XMP FileInfo SDK, create a new panel project using the "Custom Panel Wizard" and stuff the generated MXML file into it.
3. Adjust the design, compile and deploy.
Please let me know, if it worked for you or if you have questions or problems.

  • Custom XMP Panels not working in CS4

I'm trying to develop my first Flex based XMP Panel for CS4.  I'm on Windows Vista.
I downloaded the SDK (4.4.2) and created a panel, it compiles and previews fine with Flex Builder 3.
If I add the panel to CS4 (manually or through Flex Builder 3) then the Panel just shows up blank in the PhotoShop FileInfo window.  Many of the other panels also appear blank until I remove the panel.
I tried copying the sample panels that came with the SDK and they all show up as blank and most of the other default panels are blank too.  Basically, any custom panels cause the FileInfo dialog to stop working properly.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Dear forum user,
usually we recommend to install custom panels into the "user" location at:
    WINDOWS XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\2.0\panels\
WINDOWS VISTA: C\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\2.0\panels\
    MAC OS: /user/username/Application Data/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/2.0/panels/
The reason why your panels did not work properly was a missing Flash trust file for that user location. Without such a trust file the embedded flash player refuses to "play" your custom panel.
Please see section "Trust files for custom panels" in the XMPFileInfo SDK Programmer's Guide on page 50 for all details on how to create such trust files.
    Kind regards
    Jörg

  • Windows 7 - what version works with CS4

I currently have a laptop with Vista home basic - I upgraded to CS4 last year and it doesn't work with home basic.
Anyone have an idea what versions of windows 7 will work with CS4 before I order it?
I haven't been able to use my software for almost a year .

yes but I refused to spend anymore money on an OS I hated from day one.
I use these at work all day long - but it will be nice to have them at home again.
I never had a problem before with the basic OS not working with a program - and if so , a patch was usually made
I bought my laptop a year before CS4 came out - I didn't want all the bells and whistles that Vista had - hence why I went with home basic.
Another way to suck money out of people
Thanks for the info - I think I will go with the profesional upgrade

  • Fireworks CS3 still can't work with OpenType!!

Just received Fireworks CS3. One of the first things I wanted
to know if the app was finally able to work with detailled OpenType
functionalities. Answer: no. I'm shocked! Complete waste of
    upgrade-money.
I use a lot of smart OpenType fonts, some of them with
options like Small Caps hidden inside the font. Completely unusable
inside Fireworks. If I want to use Small Caps with these fonts I
first have to go to Illustrator, type it, convert it to outlines
    etc. etc.
I knew Macromedia didn't care for OpenType fonts... but
    Adobe?!
Plus: the fontmenu still doesn't have submenus and the 6
'last used' fonts on top are extremely annoying.
    Very, very disappointed!!

They work in Fireworks on my machine. What is your operating

  • I have an iPod G2 with a firewire 400 lead. how can I attach it to my new 13 inch Mac book Pro, is there a 400 to 800 firewire converter. USB lead wont work with the Macbook Pro. iPod used as an external drive to archive memory cards on the go.

My G2 iPod that I use as an external drive to archive memory cards on the go cannot link with my new 13" Macbook Pro cause it uses a firewire 400 lead. It will not work with a USB lead. Is there a firewire 800 ipod lead or converter available? Can any one shed some light on this please?

As far as I know, if a harddrive works with a Macpro, it should work with the Macbook: if your Macbook is low on power, plug in the AC adapter
If your Macbook has a firewire port, then it should be fine. BUt i would do somemore research first.

  • Convert .MXF Video files to work with Mac Editing software?

    Hello,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Trying to find software that will edit .MXF Video Files to work with Mac.
As the edit is simple, prefer iMovie, but happy if the Conversion software only works with FCExpress (or even FCPro if that is the only alternative).
    1. If it matters, .MXF (Material Exchange Format) Video files came from shooting on a Panasonic 500 P2. Originally downloaded onto a Windows system, using Adobe Premiere.
    2. I just want to see and convert some of the shots I did for my Reel, etc., but I have a Mac.
    3. I have iMovie HD, iMovie 09, and FCExpress (which I don't know how to use that well).
    4. When I attach an External HD with backup files of all the footage shot, they show up named as .MXF files. They appear as VLC files (VLC icon), but the suffix is .MXF.
    5. When I try to play them as VLC files, they won't play. It seems they start to play, but then the VLC software quits.
    6. So I have tried downloading some software on the Internet that Google says converts .MXF files.
I tried: iSkysoft Video Converter, AVCWare Mac Video Converter, MPEG Streamclip, and a couple others. They all seem to have basically the same conversion setups, but when I click to pick one .MXF file, none of them recognize it. (The file in my Browse window is greyed out).
    7. MoyaVideo Converter for Mac recognizes the .MXF file, but when I hit the "conversion" button - I tried a couple different settings, all it seems to convert is the first frame. Even if the .MXF file says a clip is 123MB or 43 seconds long, etc.
    8. I can't even watch the clip in Preview. Press Play and it is just the first frame.
    9. I have read elsewhere in these forums, some people touting conversion software from a company in Germany - mfxformac. I am fine with paying for conversion software, but $500?
Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks for your response.
If this codec can only be read by Final Cut Pro, why do all these companies claim their software can convert .MXF files?

  • How to convert olympus RAW (.orf) to work with CS5?

Hi-- I've never worked with RAW before so I'm learning as I go-- & immediately hit head-on into this wall--can't even begin to work with it.  I tried downloading some conversion filters that sounded like they would work with converting this format, but no go.  OLympus was no help, other than saying to buy the update to the latest Photoshop. And of course Adobe has no customer support. Anyone know the good solution?  If so--muchos gracias.
    Mark

If your oly is a newer model then the orf versions supported in  CS5 's  ACR version 6.7 you can download Adobe  ACR 8.7.1 version with the DNG converter and create DNG files for your OFR files and process the DNG files using CS5 ACR 6.7.

  • Upgrade CS3 custom plugins to work with CS5

    Hello everyone,
I have several InDesign plugins developed with CS3 SDK, and now we'd want to make them work with CS5.
As the first step, I'd want to get some general idea regarding how large the scope of effort it would require.
So I'm wondering if anyone knows whether we have any tools help with such upgrades. Or if anyone could help pointing me at some instructions that would be great.
    Thanks a ton!
    -Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
You could look into the programming guide for a complete reference into what all are the changes you need to make into your plugin for porting into CS5.
But i will mention some main points that hopefully will get you started.
    1. You need to seperate your plugin into two plugins that i.e. model and UI plugins. For that what i suggest is consider placing things like persistent interfaces and commands, maybe selection suites and the same into the model plugin and the rest into UI plugin.
    2. You could start by not linking against the WidgetBin.lib on the Windows proj and not using the "IndesignModelUI.framework" in the MAC project. The files giving compilation error would be a potential target to move to the UI plugin.
    3. Next is when you  have decided what all things are to be present in the model plugin, then use the CS5 SDK to compile this project, you will probably get some compilation errors which you can fix with the help of the Indesign SDK help.
    4. Once the model plugin is compiled you can place all the other files and features from the original plugin not included in the model plugin into a new plugin(UI). This project will link against the WidgetBin.lib on the Windows proj and the "IndesignModelUI.framework" in the MAC project.
    5. Once the UI plugin is ready and then you have made the appropriate API changes, you still might have some linking and compilation errors because of the code moved into the model plugin. For this you need to make a facade generally used for communication btw the model and UI plugin. Place all the functions of the model plugin that the UI plugin uses in the facade and replace the call of these function appropriately in the UI plugin.
    6. Lastly you will have to make some changes in the project  settings as well for CS5 to copy the resource files with the plugin as well, please refer CS5 porting guide.
If you follow these steps, you would be able to load your CS3 plugin into CS5. And basically the effort in terms of porting the plugin mainly depends upon the quality of code to be ported. If the original code is written with good insight and using good practices of design patterns, porting is not a very time consuming task.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why can you reveal and dock panels when working with new blur filters ?

    Hi all,
It's purely an academic question, but I've been working through the new CS6 blur Filters and I notice you can customise the UI Panel layout as you would with the main Panels in Photoshop. I notice that you can also reveal and add any other Photoshop Panels from the Window menu, though they're non functional.
Is there any significance behind this, beyond providing a slightly different UI layout ?
As an aside, I'm liking many of the new features, but like others have noted, I'm finding the Adjustments Panel now pretty redundant and have reverted to the pre-CS4 way of creating Adjustment Layers - from the menu at the bottom of the Layers Panel.
    Thanks

I noticed that too.  It appears the Photoshop engineers have sort of repurposed the named Workspace layout process during the execution of certain filters.
I can see that this has both good aspects and bad.  Personally, if Adobe is going to change everything around entirely, I think I would personally prefer a "filter" (plug-in) style dialog.  I really dislike things that change.  In my case, I normally edit with images on my left monitor and all the panels on my right.  But for filter/plug-in dialogs, I put them on the right monitor.  If nothing else, it gives me an at-a-glance "before" version of the image to look at, and in some cases the filters actually update the overall image, so I can be looking at the plug-in dialog at high magnification and also see what the filter has done to the image overall.
Maybe with one monitor the new approach is better, I don't know.  The way I work I'm not too fond of it.

  • Illustrator CS3/Photoshop CS3 - how do they work with MS XP64 and MS Vista64?

I am building a new computer and am trying to decide whether to use XP 64 bit or Vista 64 bit.
I currently have Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop CS3....but will surely upgrade to CS4 at some point.
What is your recommendation for OS choices I've noted? Any horrible experiences with either?
    Thanks.

CS3 and CS4 run without problems on my 2 year old XP64 machine at work (Dual Xeon, 8GB RAM) and should work even better on Vista 64. Apparently, if you want to use the 64bit version of Photoshop CS4 with working OpenGL, you have no choice in the matter and must use Vista64bit. For the "normal" 32bit version this limitation does not apply and it runs nicely with hardware acceleration on my end (Quadro 5500, needs the "Allow old GPUs" registry hack). Illustrator in that regard should be even less critical, as it does not use any hardware acceleration at this point except for drawing the interface....

  • Easy Print VI panel not working with 64-bit windows vista

We have a significantly sized application developed in Labview 8.2.1 that is designed to work on a standalone computer. This application uses "Easy Print VI Panel" to print report pages which are basically front panels of various VIs. The application also prints some report pages using the "Print Report" module. Typically we use the application builder and use the generated installer to install the application on a target computer. We also include the appropriate Run-Time engine and NI VISA 4.1. The applications works exactly as designed on all versions of 32-bit Windows (ME, XP, Vista). Now, when this application was installed on a machine running Windows Vista 64-bit, attempts to print reports resulted in a lot of blank pages. I noticed that the report pages that are based on the "Easy Print VI Panel" module were blank whereas the ones that are based on the "Print Report" module were not blank.
To further troubleshoot, I created a very small application. The only function of this application is to use the "Easy Print VI Panel" to print the front panel of another VI that I bundled inside the application. I observed the same behavior.
From what I can tell, either:
    1. "Easy Print VI Panel" with Labview 8.2.1 is not compatible with Windows Vista 64-bit
    2. The Labview Run-Time Engine 8.2.1 has some incompatibility with Windows Vista 64-bit (I have not tried to install the full development system on the 64-bit Vista computer)
Any insights as to what may be causing this? or does anyone know of a fix for this issue. I am attaching the latter simple test code to the post.
    Thanks

Sorry Sam, I couldn't get my hands on a 64-bit Vista machine to tinker with your VI. I got a little obsessed with trying to get ahold of a computer to test it out on, that I overlooked actually taking the time to think about the problem. But, now that I'm thinking about it, which operating system did you build this application on? Sometimes an application that was built in another OS than it's running on will have problems caused by the differences in the OS. I'd like to try building the application in 64-bit Vista and deploying it to another 64-bit Vista machine, but unfortunately, I can't test this out myself. My gut feeling is that the application is acting up because it wasn't built in 64-bit Vista, not because the Easy Print VI or the 8.2.1 Run-Time Engine themselves are incompatible with 64-bit Vista. If you can, please test out that theory. That will definitely help determine if it's truly a bug or not.

  • Printing NOT working from PS CS3 - Z3100 but DOES work with Lightroom 2

I have been printing on a Mac with PS CS3 using a Z3100. All has been fine. Today I'm trying to print a 46x54" image from PS. I have not been able to make this work. PS sits for a while, thinks for a while, chews up resources, hangs on occassion as reported by the Activity Monitor, and then .... nothing. PS sits there and the print goes away. The job never appeared in the print monitor. I did all the usual. Rebooted the world, reinstalled the HP Z3100 drivers, and the same thing. I then gave it a shot, after many hours, and thought I'd try Lightroom 2.0. Holy mother of Michael Phelps, the print job was submitted in no time and the job is humming along with no issues. The only issue is that Lightroom is not showing Absolute Colorimetric as an option which I use and chose Perceptual instead.
The file size was 1.2 GB and 16-bit. I lowered to 8 bit for PS and still to no avail. I printed in 8-bit on LR 2.0.
Is this an issue with Photoshop? I'm running a Mac Pro Quad with on OS X 10.4.11 and 6 GB of RAM.

Something has gone wrong with how Lightroom finds and communicates with Photoshop.
That could be a registry string, or some preference within Lightroom.
The Lightroom forum is more likely to be able to help you solve this.

  • DW9 (CS3) split view not work with ASP files?

    I just installed and ran DW CS3 (ver 9.0 bulid 3481) -- I use
"coder" view for the screen layout. I like the split-view style
since I code inline HTML with my ASP and ASPX code. However, the
new version has the split-screen view button grayed out. How do I
enable split view when I edit files that are not just ending in
"htm" or "html" extensions? If the Adobe programmers made an
ASSumption then they need to issue a patch and remove it pronto. I
do not want someone else making decisions on how I do my work...I
get enough of that from Microsoft already, I do not need it from my
tools also. Please forward this to the developers if there is no
way to change my preferences, otherwise please tell me how to edit
a config file or hex-edit the executable to get this funtionality
    back. TIA!

I still can't figure out why the split view or design view is
grayed out and not accessible when editing files with an .asp or
.aspx extension and it is driving me crazy! I called the support
line and got someone in India who didn't understand my problem. 30
minutes later I finally got her to agree to transfer me to
secondary support but they were busy and she promised me they would
call the next day. That was over a week ago. I didn't even get a
voicemail, even though I stayed by my phone the whole day. I see
that support for DW under Adobe is no better than it was under
Macromedia...how sad. Microsoft Expression Web is looking better
    and better every day....... :(
