Convert Document Size for iPad

We have a 220 page catalog that was set up for a 8-in x 11-in print publication. We are now needing to create a digital publication for an iPad of the same document. The easiest way would be to resize the document and now scale up the text and images to make them fit better. After we resize to the new document, we select all the pages and attempt to use the liquid layout to rescale the images and text. The issue is that it will only rescale one page and not the entire catalog. Is there a way to do this so all pages are rescaled uniformly?

We diid but that resizes the document page but does not affect the copy and images.

  • How to change Default document size for CC Library Graphics (InDesign)

    Good morning --
I have just discovered the amazing uses of the CC Library setup in InDesign and would love to be able to use it as a tool to collaborate template galleries amongst coworkers.
I work in an industry that offers many different templates for our Marketing pieces available to the sales team. What we have in place right now is about 50+ different templates in their own packaged files. Now, this isn't all that difficult to maneuver around, but the CC Library has made it so I can "drag and drop" templates into place. This drag & drop feature is easy enough for me to grasp, and with the proper training it should be with the rest of the team (should being the keyword). However, in some cases if you double-click on Library graphic it opens the file in it's own editable file with a custom document size of 8.5x11 Portrait (which I imagine to be the internal InDesign preset).
My questions therefore are when I double click on the library "Graphics" can the document size be anything other than 8.5x11? Can each Graphic have it's own document preset?
    - If I open a file that is set for landscape, all of the "Graphic" falls off of the spread.
    - Some "eblasts" are much longer than 8.5x11 (sometimes as much as 8.5x20), thus knocking some of the "Graphics" into that weird space area.
Please let me know if I am not being a clear enough.
    Thank you!
    Steve

@Steve – you are totally clear what you are doing and what you like to do.
But I fear an automatic setting that is creating the page size according to an asset's size does not exist right now.
I can change the size of a new document beforehand, if no document is open and create a new size in the document's properties dialog with the keyboard shortcut alt + cmd + p (in my German InDesign on Mac OSX 10.7.5). But you have to know in advance what size that should be.
Example: If I chose A3 instead of A4 (my default) when no document is open and double click an asset in a CC Library the asset will be placed in a one page document sized A3.
    1. Changing the size (no document is open) in my German UI of InDesign CC-2014.2:
    2. Double click and the result is according to the settings I made:

  • Converting Slide Size for Whole Presentation 06 - 08

My iWork 06 presentations are all 800x600 resolution. How do I convert a whole presentation into an iWork 08 widescreen (any other resolution) size?
I have opened a new presentation in Widescreen and cut and pasted all 800x600 slides from an 06 presentation; some of the slides adjust properly, some the dimensions get distorted and I have to readjust the whole slide. Any ideas?

    1) Resolutions are globally set for each document. When you copy from one Keynote document to another, Keynote will automatically alter the new destination slide to the destination document resolution setting if they were not the same resolution to begin with.
    2) Also, there is a grouping bug in '08 which may move objects randomly. This might be part of what you are seeing.
Check the Keynote manual pp 169-170.

  • Maximum InDesign Page Size for iPad

I want to creat a horizontal publication and use smooth scrolling for all articles. I understand that the InDesign documents should be single-page layouts that are longer than the page/screen size (1024 pixels). All the articles in the document will have different length/height. Is there a maximum size?
    Thanks

A horizontal page has a height of 768 pixels. I’m not aware of a set maximum but just because you can make it very long doesn’t mean you should.
The primary decision should be based on reader experience and FWIW, I do not like smooth scrolling articles unless there is a real reason to use them and I’ve yet to see any publication using them for every article.
How long did you want to make these pages?

  • Converting Frame Size for Final Cut

I have XDCAM HD .mov files that are 1440x1080, which I converted through Streamclip to 1920x1080.  And 2 problems arose:
    1)  the 1st time I imported them in the Project I had the right Frame Size : 1920x1080, but the wrong Pixel Aspect : HD (1440x1080) instead of Square.
    2)  the 2nd time I looked for an Option in Streamclip to select the Pixel Aspect, but there is none.   I imported the 1920x1080 files into the project, and they appeared as 1440x1080 files!!!
I also tried creating a sequence with the desired specs (Frame Size and Pixel Aspect) and said NO when asked to conform the Sequence to the Clip.  It worked but the RED Rendering will take forever.
Do you have a better solution?
Could the problem be my Version 6 Final Cut?  Or am I missing something?  I would be most grateful for any suggestion.

If you have iTunes 9 or higher, go to +iTunes > Preferences > General+. Under 'When inserting a CD' select any one of the three import options. Then click +Import Settings > Import Using > AIFF Encoder.+ In the same panel, click +Setting > Custom.+ Select +Sample Rate = 48Khz, Sample Size = 16 bit, Channels = Stereo.+ Then click +OK, OK, OK.+
Then in your Library, select the song you want to convert. Then do +Advanced > Create AIFF Version.+ iTunes will make a copy of the song & convert it to AIFF.

  • What is the proper image size for ipad

    Hi all,
I'm having trouble with photos on my ipad.
First let me ask, What is the best size and dpi to display images?
When I put a white stroke around the images i uploaded the stroke does not show on the right side of the images. So I created a white border using the "canvas size" tool in photoshop and still no border on the right side.
    Any help will be appreciated,
    Richard

If you sync your photos with iTunes it will optimize them. Just place your photos at the full resolution in your folder (on your computer) that you are syncing and iTunes will take care of the size. My photos are all around 4000x3000 and they get reduced to 2048 on the long side. This allows you to zoom into the photo on the iPad (double tab a photo). But again, iTunes does all that for you. Just use them at full resolution.
If you want to save space you can resize your photos to 1024 on the long side. I recommend to crop your photos at a 4x3 ratio to match the iPad screen. The DPI setting are meaningless. DPI is an arbitrary definition and has no effect on how the iPad shows your files.

  • Converting wmv files for iPad

What is the recommended software/procedure to do this?

Here is the present I use for my iPad: http://cl.ly/1isb
Download it, and open handbrake and goto Presents>Import... and select that plist file. You should have a new present called "iPad". You may want to alter the quality dial on it depending on your tastes (I often watch my iPad videos on my TV via a connector so I like high quality videos even if they are large in file size).
    Hope this helps.
    -EDIT-
You will want to double check the picture settings before starting, I think they should be fine and use the same resolution that the video file does but I should double check to be sure.

  • Converting old imovies for ipad

Hello-  is there a way to share or export old imovies in a format that looks better on my new iPad?  I have access to the old and new versions of iMovie (although I haven't really had time to learn the new version yet!)  I know how to convert  and share them to my iPod touch, but of course when I sync my movies through iTunes to my iPad, the resolution is disappointing-  any tips you can share would be helpful

Just tried Handbrake on one of my imovies-  I had to Share it to full quality first, then convert it, but it looks good-just what I was trying to do!   I'll also try skydiver's tip too.  Now I have my free time cut out for me converting my family imovies, but with the iPad, I can have them with me all the time!

  • Optimal photos size for Ipad when exporting from lightroom.

anyone using lightroom. what are you setting your photos at for the ipad. what is the optimal photo resolution for the ipad?

Looks like Lightroom doesn't like your display profile.
Try removing the profile (don't know how to do it on a Mac) to leave your display uncalibrated. Are the colors still different in Lightroom and Photoshop?

  • Reducing document size for email

Hi, I am trying to send an email attaching 15 pg doc. It keeps rejecting saying file is too large. Can I put all 15 pgs in 1 attachment (currently 15 attachments) and reduce the size somehow so it goes through?

iPhoto does not work on photos that are not in its database
in iPhoto you can select a photo and click on mail (if you have configured your iPhoto preferences for your mail client) and select actual, large, medium or small as the size to mail - if you are using the mail program there is a similar menu in the lower right hand corner of the compose window
If none of those options work in iPhoto you can export (file menu ==> export) and set the exact pixel dimensions you want - for "good" quality I would want at least 200 dpi so the resulting JPEG would need to be at least 1600 x 2000 and 2400 x 3000 would be better
I certainly would use a JPEG rather than a TIFF to get the best quality relative to the size
TIFFs give a small quality improvement for a large size increase

  • What is a good ID5 Document Setup for an epub ebook for the iPhone?

I'd welcome some help using ID5 to create an ebook that is optimized for displaying on the iPhone.
In particular, I'm looking for appropriate dimensions of the base page, in pixels, to enter in the Document Setup dialog box.
From what I've read, 320 x 480 pixels should work well for both the iPhone 4 as well as previous versions.
    Is that accurate?
The Setup page also includes boxes for Bleed and Slug. Should any values be entered there, or should they remain zero?
    Thanks for the help.

On InDesignSecrets David Blatner lays out the Good, the Bad, & the Ugly facts in Best Document Size for EPUB Export:
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
This is a great question because it seems like there should be… but the truth is that there isn’t. The reason there isn’t is important: You don’t lay out an EPUB “ebook.”
Since you got off with a bad start, you might want to invest in your background material; either new book in New InDesign-to-eBook Resources should be good for starters.

  • Designing for iPad. Horizontal Scroll & Different Page Sizes.

Putting together a pdf for iPad using cs6.
I have content that fits a standard iPad format BUT I also have these very long timelines (170cm x 21 cm). These need to be displayed zoomed in – with the reader swiping right to accessing the remainder of the content (so a horizontal scroll).
Whenever I test it on the iPad it displays the full image (so zoomed out and tiny).
Just to clarify – I have two different page sizes in the same document – standard iPad size and then these annoyingly long ones....
So how do I make sure I view them right on the iPad? I need the zoom/fixed start on the long images.
Sorry a bit of a novice with anything for iPad.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Go the page in which u have added the iview.
    choose page layout.
Set "1 Column (Full Width)" for the column property
The Default Layout should be 1 Column (Full Width).

  • Ideal size for publishing for iPad

I'm creating a interactive eBook with pages being designed in Edge Animate. As of revision 28 of the DPS viewer, the 20px iOS status bar will always be displayed. As a result, I set my article size and folio size (landscape only) to be 1024 x 748. However, the in the viewer there is a 20px vertical black line that overlaps the far right edge of my article. How do I fix this? What is the correct folio size and article size when targeting landscape iPads?

Thanks for your replies. I've set the document size/margins as recommended by joev.
Joev - I'm getting a 12 pixel black bar on the right side of my articles ...
What is this and how do I remove it?
    Thanks,

  • Screen size/resolution for iPad 3

    Hi
I'm designing a portfolio app. At the moment I am previewing it on an iPad 2 in content viewer and all looks OK (text a but fuzzy but I hear thats normal) However I have set the articles and folio builder up in iPad 3 sizings as we will shortly be getting an Ipad 3 and will be showing off our work (we're a design agency) on the new higher res iPad 3. So, is it best practice for me to work to 2048x1536 @ 264 ppi for the iPad 3 versions, then when I've designed and built my app, downsize to 1024 x 768 at 131ppi?
    Thanks in advance
    Steve Chapman

Hi Bob/Anyone – I found this post whilst doing some research – what are your opinions of it guys?
If my maths are correct then, for the iPad 3, keeping the document at 1024×768 pixels but just doubling the res (72ppi to 144ppi) is exactly the same as doubling the doc size to 2048×1536 but keeping it at 72ppi!!

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the whole retina story amongst print designers.
It is actually quite simple folks.
When you design something for iPad 1 or 2 use a 1024×768 pixels document at 72 ppi.
When designing for the retina ipad make a document 2048×1536 pixels at 72 ppi.
If you don’t believe me I’ll do the math for you: 2048 pixels wide on a 7.75 inch wide display > 2048 / 7.78 = 264. And 264 just happens to be the advertised resolution of the Retina iPad.
If you want to let users zoom in on images without the images becoming pixelated, use higher resolution images.
Use Indesign to layout the documents and create the PDF not Photoshop as mentioned before. Photoshop will produce rasterized text while a PDF from Indesign will offer crisp text at any zoom level.
