Convert Excel to PDF using specific font Avant Garde ends up with missing text

Hello, hopefully someone can help me out.  I have a problem with converting a specific Excel document to PDF using Acrobat 6.0.6.  Whenever this document is converted to PDF, on one specific computer there is are missing lines of text.  The font of the text is Avant Garde.  I can change the font to something like Arial and it will convert fine and all text will be shown in the PDF.
I've already reinstalled Windows on this PC with its bare essentials and sure enough the problem persists.
The Avant Garde font is installed by way of Adobe Type Mangager Light 4.1.  The fonts are Post Script .PFB.  I have a second and third PC with the same setup and these other two can successfully convert the Excel to PDF using Acrobat 6.0.6 without any problems (using the same Avant Garde font).
I can uninstall and then reinstall Acrobat 6.0.6 and this will fix the problem temporarily but it will eventually come back within a day or two.
Is there anything anyone can think of that would cause this problem to occur?

I suspect the font is not embedded and not on that machine. You might try selecting "use Local Fonts" to see if it works that way. To check embedding, select ctrl-D and the font tab, or go to the document properties and select the font tab (they keep moving these around and don't remember where it is in AA6).
If the font is not embedded, then change your job settings for creating the PDF to Press or Print forms and see if that solves the problem.

Cannot convert webpages to pdf using Acrobat X Pro with IE9 and Windows 7, worked fine until a few months and updates ago

I tried your suggestion, not knowing that the direct pdf printer would also "save as" PDF, but when I try your suggestion and use the Adobe PDF printer that is a direct creation of the PDF from the browser (IE9), instead of the "black out" areas I get when I use the "Convert to" button, I get missing blocks of the resulting PDF, and only get the first 1/4 to 1/3 of the webpage.
Just to clarify, when I said I print the webpage and then scan, that is a work around I have to do if I need a scanned version of the way a webpage appears on a particular date and time, instead of the one step process I used to be able to do when Adobe Acrobat would actually convert the webpage to a pdf without blackout areas or, if I try your suggestion, blank spots with a partial webpage. But the idea was one I had not thought of and I appreciated the thought.
Yes, Acrobat was updated, and is updated, and was working fine until a few months ago, Win 7 and Office 32 bit versions, Office 2010

I don't understand.  I use Google Docs to write letters & other forms, then convert them to PDFs using Adobe Acrobat.  If Forms Central closes, will I still be able to do this?

Adobe also has Acrobat.com and there is DropBox.com. Adobe has also announced Adobe Document Cloud.
Forms central provide a subscription service for users with Reader to create simple forms. Apparently this did not meet a majority of users and with the minimal price difference for Acrobat and free web storage the users were better served without it. I expect cloud services will continue to emerge until providers better and more fully understand the user requirements.

  • Can't convert files to pdf using Acrobat 8 Standard or 9 Pro

I am having a major problem. I have tried converting both Word 2003 and Excel 2003 documents to pdf using Acrobat 8 Standard (I can't recall which version because I uninstalled and installed a trial version of Acrobat 9 Pro) and Acrobat 9 Pro. I have tried to convert directly from the open document and through Acrobat using create from file. In every instance the process starts and then stops after a few moments. When I try the conversion from within Acrobat, I get the following error message: " Pdf conversion failed, please correct the error and retry." When I try the conversion directly from Word or Excel, the conversion starts, stiops suddenly and gives no error message.  I have had Acrobat 8 Standard installed for a couple of years. It worked fine on this computer until the problem started a week ago or so. There have been no software or hardware changes that woudl trigger suspicion.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the 8 Standard version. I have uninstalled the 8 Standard version and installed the 9 Pro trial version. I have run the repair module on both versions. I'm sure it is something simple but I just can't figure out what the "error" is that I need to "correct". Any suggestions?
As an aside, I have several Adobe programs (Photoshop CS5, Contribute 3 and Acrobat), all of them expensive. Their business model of offering no unpaid support (even for this type of problem) is one reason I hate Adobe more than Microsoft... but I rant.

When you uninstalled, you should have used the MS Installer Cleanup utility. It cleans up a lot of the junk left over in the registry. You should have also deleted the Acrobat folder. Then you would reinstall. You did not indicate your OS and it may be that you need to update the AA8 to get it to work correctly. Also, the installs and uninstalls can mess up your registration process if you are not careful. If you uninstall the AA9 trial, you will not be able to reinstall it for use. At this point, I can only suggest you do a repair of your installation and be sure you have all of the updates.

  • My PDF uses a font I have installed locally but is using Adobe Sans MM instead

Hello - I am hoping to contact Adobe directly about this but cannot find a way to do so, so here it goes.
Our accounting package is creating PDF's that include some text using a special bar code font, Code39-Narrow-F (Code39-Narrow-F.ttf).  We install this font on all computers in the company, and I have confirmed it is installed on my PC.
I have a statement (pdf) from our accounting package that includes a line giving the total expenses using this bar code font, then under that using a normal font (Helvetica I think) so the total is also human readable.
In Adobe Reader this font is not being used, even though it is installed.  According to the file properties in Adobe the "Actual font" is Adobe Sans MM.  From what I have read online this is a standard built-in font used when the requested font is not found.  Yet it is installed and actually if I try a few competitor PDF viewing products that font does show up.  I have tried Google Chromes built in PDF reader as well as Foxit Reader and both display the bar code.
Therefore this seems to be a bug of some kind.  I am testing with Adobe Reader 11.0.06 which I believe is the latest release.
I would be glad to send this PDF to someone at Adobe to review, including a copy of the font.  The file itself though contains sensitive financial information so I do not want to post that here for the world to read.
Update: I have found another pdf report from the same accounting system that does show the bar code properly.  Really strange eh?  I can send an Adobe person this file as well for comparison.
    Thank you
    Bruce

Most people just read PDF's, and do not create them, and as such have no control over the PDF's they are presented with.  I believe some fonts also require a license to use.
Adobe and other PDF readers do try and use the local fonts when they are available if it is not embedded.  The issue I have is Foxit and Chrome appear to be more successful at that then Adobe. They appear to have a wider or more liberal font search algorithm than Adobe does.  I would like Adobe to loosen up their font search so their product can be just as successful in displaying PDF's properly as their competitors.
I took another look at the two PDF's I have and noticed a difference with the fonts.
The one that works says the font is "Code39NarrowF" (literally like this, case sensitive etc).
The one that fails says the font is "code39-narrow-f" (again, literally)
The font itself on my computer is named 'Code39-Narrow-F.ttf,
In the registry is listed under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts is named "Code39NarrowF (TrueType)"
I suspect then that the non-Adobe products are figuring out that "code39-narrow-f" is either the name of the TTF file and matching it that way or maybe it does a case insensitive search that does not include the hyphens.

  • Websites will convert to a PDF using Adobe Acrobat 9 but not Adobe Acrobat XI

    Hello,
We have noticed that there are several websites that can be concerted into a PDF using Adoble Acrobat 9, but do not work with Adobe Acrobat XI. An example is the website http://amseventsubc.com/. This site converts with no problems using Adobe Acrobat 9, but will not work with Adobe Acrobat XI. When one tries to convert the website (by going Create > PDF from Web Page > Capture Multiple Levels > Get entire site > Create) it starts to work for about 10 minutes but then stops and crashes the program.
Does anyone have a suggestion for how to fix this problem?
Is there any reason why a website would work in an older version of Acrobat and not the most recent?
    Thanks for your help!

Hi, we are actually not looking to have active links but rather to have the content from each link saved as part of the PDF (We are looking to convert the entire website's content to PDF). On Adobe X you can normally append any link so that its content will be converted and added to your PDF, however, this can't be done with XML links.

  • Can't convert .doc to .pdf using Acrobat 9.4.3.

    Guys,
Last night for some reason Acrobat 9 suddenly stopped converting any MS Word .docs to .pdfs.  It gives me the following message:
Acrobat could not open 'XYZ.doc' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF or use the Acrobat toolbar found in Microsoft Office applications.
I swear it was working earlier. So I checked for an update and it gave me 9.4.3 so I updated and it didn't fix the problem.  I also tried several different files and got the same message.
    I'm using OS 10.6.7 Acrobat 9.4.3 and MS Word 11.3.5 (2004).
    Thanks,
    Solan

What version of Word do you Have?
Word 2004 if you had Acrobat as well the PDFmaker menu bar was installed by Acrobat you could convert a .doc Document to PDF.  It required the use of VBA and and a Macro which created the PDFMaker menu.  I was Secretary and Treasurer of an association for 30 years and I converted many a 2004 Word Document to PDF using PDFMaker.
You still had the same problems with word converted to PDF as today. If there are any section Breaks or Page breaks the pdfs were broken up into pieces you have to put back together.
I still have some .Doc files from early 2006 and with Office 2011, I opened one, and just saved it as a Pdf no trouble. I didn't convert it and didn't save it as a Docx.
I simply went to Save as and chose  PDF.
And I also went to Print menu> PDF> adobe quality PDF.  and was able to make a PDF.
Also I just went to print menu > PDF and just chose PDF which makes an Apple version of PDF.
I don't know where anyone got the idea you can't make a PDF from a Doc File.  Maybe in a future version That doesn't read doc. but for now

  • Converting DWF to PDF using right click option cuts off right side.

I have 24x36 dwf files that I need to convert to PDF. (Printing Landscape)
When using the right click option in explorer, "Convert to Adobe PDF", the conversion cuts off about 6" on the right side of the page.
(I can "Print" inside my DWF viewer to Adobe and it works fine and I can set my default printer to Adobe PDF and select multiple at a time and it prints fine)
I currently have Windows 7 and Acrobat XI version 11.0.06.
    How do I fix this?

You might check the preferences in Acrobat and see if there are settings for DWF files.

  • Convert Script to PDF using RVADOPFO, w/o using spool and send via email

  • Emf images in word document convert badly to pdf using adobe plug-in

I have a problem with converting word documents containing emf images to pdf using the adobe plugin in the MS word ribbon which is provided with Adobe Acrobat XI standard. The text and some of the image formatting in the emf vector image either disappears or moves within the in the resulting output when the document is converted to a pdf. The issue also occurs when I use the "File > save as adobe pdf" option.
    Example image in word:
    Example result after pdf conversion:
I have adjusted many of the settings to try and get the conversion to work.
When I use the print then select the adobe printer  this image pdf's ok. However he Adobe word plug-in is potentially very useful and a time saver because it allows default settings (including security) to be applied time and time again by default ensuring consistency. It is also important for us to be able to use a high quality vector image.
I hope someone can help here!
    Thanks
    Tom

We had the problem last year for my last PhD student and his dissertation. It was an issue with vector graphics, not bitmaps. In his case, the lines on a curve were solid, dotted, and dashed, but all came out as solid. In the printed version it was correct. The only solution we found was to create the file from the plugin and a second file with the printer. Then the second file was inserted in the original with replace pages. This meant that all the markup, bookmarks, and such were retained, but the graphics worked. If you do not need the extra bookmarks and such of the plugin, then just set up the printer to do the security you want. If you always want the security set, set it in the printer properties in the Start>Printers menu of Windows.
