Convert HTML to "word string"`?
HI, I am using C#.I have a template word doc that contains key tags of the format [FIELD_0],
[FIELD_1], etc...
I load this document in memory, and then replace those tags with the correct string values.
When I am done, I return it to the user.
This is working fine.
However, now I have a case where one of my string is html format (bold, italic, bullets),
I am wondering how can I convert this "Hmtl string" into "word doc string" ???
Thanks.
Then You can try this free DOC library(http://www.e-iceblue.com/Introduce/word-for-net-introduce.html),download and add reference to your project then add the following code
Document doc = new Document("sample.docx");
TextSelection selection = doc.FindString("[FILED_0]", true, true);
TextRange range = selection.GetAsOneRange();
int index = range.OwnerParagraph.ChildObjects.IndexOf(range);
Document htmldoc = new Document();
StringReader sr = new StringReader("<b>hello </b><i>world</i>");
htmldoc.LoadHTML(sr, XHTMLValidationType.None);
foreach (Section section in htmldoc.Sections)
foreach (Paragraph p in section.Paragraphs)
foreach (DocumentObject obj in p.ChildObjects)
range.OwnerParagraph.ChildObjects.Insert(index++, obj.Clone());
range.OwnerParagraph.ChildObjects.Remove(range);
doc.SaveToFile("replace1.docx", FileFormat.Docx);

Are there any components out there that will allow us to get
HTML content into Word format? Or, since we can generate PDF
easily, PDF to Word format?
Thanks
PaulThis component can convert HTML to Word:http://www.sautinsoft.com/products/html-to-rtf/index.php
This is a sample code:
SautinSoft.HtmlToRtf h = new SautinSoft.HtmlToRtf();
//here we specify page numbers
h.PageNumbers = SautinSoft.HtmlToRtf.ePageNumbers.PageNumFirst;
h.HtmlPath = Server.MapPath("");
string rtf = h.ConvertFileToString(Server.MapPath(""), @Default.aspx);
//show Word/rtf
if (rtf != "")
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.Clear();
Response.ContentType = "aplication/msword";
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition:", "attachment; filename=Test.doc");
Response.Write(rtf);
Response.Flush();
Response.End();
Or another sample to convert in memory:
SautinSoft.HtmlToRtf h = new SautinSoft.HtmlToRtf();
string word = h.ConvertString(htmlString);
Written in 100% managed C#
Absolutely standalone, doesn't require MS Office or any dependencies
Can be used in C#, VB.Net, J#, Delphi.Net, ColdFusion
Works at shared-hosting servers with Medium trust level, like a GoDaddy

Converting HTML into a Word document
Hi all,
I have a JSP whose content type is set so that the HTML it produces is opened up in Word. Now this works fine until images come into the equation, as these images must lie somewhere in order to be referenced from the HTML code. As this document must be 'stanalone', booting up the HTML in Word and simply changing the file extension is no good as it is still HTML under the hood.
What I therefore would like to do it generate a Word document from this HTML that is independent in the fact that it 'holds' these images within itself and does not rely on external resources. Does anyone know how I can achieve this?
I have looked into Jakarta POI and have written this off as an option because 1) it is still in development and 2) there is no documentation or examples of how to use what is already there. I am assuming someone has come across this problem before and knows of a solution out there that I could use.
Many thanks in advance!HI,
Thanks all for your replies! Unfortuantely it can't be PDF as the creator will need to edit it before the document is complete. I have actually looked into generating an RTF document instead, but the example I tried seemed to loose the image data. Unfortuantely I know nothing about RTF and so kind of gave up on it :(
Here is the code I used:
import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream;
import java.io.StringReader;
import java.io.IOException;
import javax.swing.text.BadLocationException;
import javax.swing.text.html.HTMLDocument;
import javax.swing.text.StyledEditorKit;
import javax.swing.text.rtf.RTFEditorKit;
import javax.swing.text.html.HTMLEditorKit;
public class FormatConverter {
private HTMLDocument tempHTMLDoc;
private HTMLEditorKit htmlKit;
private RTFEditorKit rtfKit;
public FormatConverter() {
tempHTMLDoc = new HTMLDocument();
htmlKit = new HTMLEditorKit();
rtfKit = new RTFEditorKit();
private String fudge(String strText) {
String strResult = "";
StringReader reader = new StringReader(strText);
try {
tempHTMLDoc.remove(0,tempHTMLDoc.getLength());
htmlKit.read(reader,tempHTMLDoc,0);
ByteArrayOutputStream byteArrayOutputStream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
rtfKit.write(byteArrayOutputStream,tempHTMLDoc,0,tempHTMLDoc.getLength());
strResult = byteArrayOutputStream.toString();
catch(IOException ie){}
catch(BadLocationException ble){}
return strResult;
public static void main(String args[]) {
FormatConverter conv = new FormatConverter();
String strRTF = conv.fudge("<P><IMG src=\"http://intratestgbr/announcements/images/1093429553065.jpg\"></P><P> </P><P>50 <STRONG>pounds</STRONG>, <FONT color=#0000ff>wow</FONT></P>");
System.out.println("RTF: '"+strRTF+"'");
strRTF = conv.fudge("<html><head><p class=default><span style=\"color: #000000\">Description </span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><b>with</b> </span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><i>some</i> </span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><u>formatting</u> </span><span style=\"color: #000000\"></span></p></head></html>");
System.out.println("RTF: '"+strRTF+"'");
System.exit(0);
}The output I got from this was:
\rtf1\ansi
\fonttbl\f0\fnil Monospaced;
\colortbl\red0\green0\blue0;\red0\green0\blue255;
\par
\~50 pounds, \cf1 wow\par
}Like I said, when I open the RTF output in Word, everything is fine apart from the missing image. If one of you very nice people could point me in the right direction of a way to convert it to RTF instead while still maintaining the images this would certainly be a very acceptable solution and I would be very grateful :)
Many thanks again! -
Convert HTML special characters to String
Hi,
I'm looking for an easy way to convert HTML special characters (like "ö") to String.
Any Ideas how implement this? ThanksHi,
I'm looking for an easy way to convert HTML special
characters (like "") to String.
Any Ideas how implement this? Thankswell im assuming that you mean that when you are working with java you will be getting a ? instead of the character you want. assuming that you are reading and writing to this html file. if not well maybe this can stil help : BufferedReader inFile = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream(fileName),"ISO8859-1"));
PrintWriter outFile = new PrintWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream(fileName2), "ISO8859-1")); basically you need to make sure that ou define ISO8859-1 as the encoding. -

How do I convert PDF to word on a mac?
Hi,
I'm new to apple products and i'm struggling to find how i convert a pdf file to word. On a PC the option automatically popped up on the file or edit and right click. There is no right click on a mac from what I can see and there is no option in file or edit.
Any help grately received.
Thanks in advance
JoI've found that some of the non-Adobe converters (and some of the free online converters) don't do such a good job as Acrobat Pro. If you want to try it out, you can download one of the free 30-day trial packages from Adobe that include Acrobat Pro X (such as Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard),
but it is really very expensive, but there are many other third pary PDF converter progarms out there:
like: Vibosoft PDF converter master:

Convert a UTF-8 string to ISO-8859-1 string
Hello. As you can see from my other post, I am working on internationalization. I could not find an appropriate entry in the forum already.
I want to convert form data (submitted from an HTML UTF-8 charset page) from the UTF-8 format to ISO-8859-1 format. How do I do that?
I.e.
String utfFormat="視聴者";
String isoFormat="";
// Do magic here
System.out.println(isoFormat); // out: "しての" (or whatever it is)
Can you help?
Dailysun
nullAs I said in the other thread (did you read that, BTW?), you shouldn't have to bother with actual character-set conversions. You just tell the InputStream what the Charset is when you read it in, and the OutputStream what Charset to use when you write it out.
What you're doing is escaping characters by replacing them with numeric entity references--the opposite of what you asked in the other thread. The process is just as simple: cast the char to an int, convert that to a string with String.valueOf(int), and add the "&#" and ";". You can use a regex-based approach like I did over there, but going in this direction, it will be just as easy without them.
Hiwa, check out that other thread; I think you'll find it amusing (in light of that second link you posted). -
