Convert mm/dd/yyyy text format to date format
I imported a csv file and the date column is in text format. How do I convert it from m/d/yyyy text format to yyyy-mm-dd DATE format in Numbers v 3.1?
Thanks for any help you can give!
UPDATE: I found that your formula didnt produce the correct result
It changed mm/dd/yyyy to yyyy/dd/mm — rather than the desired yyyy/mm/dd
By hacking at it, I found that changing the D column formulas around fixed this.
Your original function:
D2=RIGHT(A2,4)&"-"&MID(A2, B2+1, C2−B2−1)&"-"&LEFT(A2,B2−1)
Changed:
D2 =RIGHT(A2,4)&"-"&LEFT(A2,B2−1)&"-"&+MID(A2, B2+1, C2−B2−1)

I need convert the date of string format 'MM/dd/yyyy' to datetime format 'MM/dd/yyyy' when the system date format is 'dd/MM/yyyy'.Since
I need to search values based on date where my database datetime is 'MM/dd/yyyy' format.In my opinion you should re-consider the assumption that the date picker returns a string. Maybe it is able to return a
DateTime object directly instead of string. Then you will pass this value as a parameter of SQL query. This should work regardless of computer configuration.
Otherwise, follow the previous string-based approaches. -
List all of the existing column and there column format and data format?
Hello Gurus,
I am new to OBIEE and i have a requirement to verify the column format and data format for all of the existing column while generating a analysis report. Is there any way i can list down all of the columns which are exposed and list there column format and data format?
For checking the individual column properties i know there is an option called 'Column Properties' but want to know all in once go.
Kindly help me and thanks in advance.
ThanksI don't think you have anything in answers to get that, Go to Repository and Utilities -> Generate Metadata Dictionary that will give columns and datatype.

Can't see HTML and Custom text format under data format tab in obiee.
Hi,
I want to add a java script to my report but I can't see HTML/Custom text format option under Data Format Tab--->"Treat Text as" menu.
My report is a union report.
For data column and numeric columns i can see custom option available but for text columns it is not visisble.
Any idea why it is not showing and what should be done here.
Any pointers are welcome.
Please help,it is really urgent.
Thank in advance!

List of Number format and Date format according to the Locales
Hallo everyone.
I am searching for a list or document which includes the number and date formats according to the country locales. Where can I find sort of document?
Another question: Where can I find the all parameters of swing.properties file?"Date - allows the user to enter a date as a parameter. Note that the data type must also be "Date" and the format must be Java date format."

Fm or method for converting doc,pdf or text files to binary format
Hello,
Are you aware of any function module or method which takes input as a file of type doc, pdf or text files and convert it to binary format? Kindly let me know.
This is what i tried and was unsuccessful.
i tried using gui_upload method and pass " asc" as file type while importing file of type .doc but it returns me string filled with strange characters.
I did try converting this string to xstring using cl_proxy_service=>cstring2xstring but i realized my 1st step of uploading file itself was wrong.
Please let me know what can be done if you are aware of how to convert file of various types to binary.
thanks
Poojahi All,
thanks alot for the information and help provided by all of you.
I did figure out a way where the word document or pdf can be pretty much loaded with gui_upload. the file type used in the method would be "BIN" the following thing has to be done. declare data type as given below and file would be the complete path along with document name which has to be uploaded
DATA: BEGIN OF res_line,
raw(255) TYPE x,
END OF res_line.
DATA: res_tab LIKE res_line OCCURS 0 WITH HEADER LINE.
data : wf_var_stringx TYPE xstring .
CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_UPLOAD'
EXPORTING
filename = file
filetype = 'BIN'
read_by_line = 'X'
has_field_separator = ' '
header_length = 0
header_line = 'X'
IMPORTING
filelength = l_filelength
TABLES
data_tab = res_tab
EXCEPTIONS
OTHERS = 1.
LOOP AT res_tab .
CONCATENATE wf_var_stringx res_tab-raw INTO wf_var_stringx IN BYTE MODE.
ENDLOOP.
this will upload the file and will file the string x with its content.
hope this helps to some of you.
Thanks

Forcing YYYY in locale SHORT date format
Does anyone know how to force Java 1.2.2 to display the year in SHORT format as 4 digits without destroying the locale sensitivity of the application. Take the following line of code..
DateFormat.getDateInstance(DateFormat.SHORT).format(value);
That snippet returns a string formatted for the default locale. In the USA this means the year will be displayed as 'YY'. The question is how to force SHORT to 'YYYY'.
I know I can switch to SimpleDateFormat and supply my own pattern. but then locale sensitivity is lost. For example, I can specify that the pattern is MM/dd/YYYY but this means all locales will use this format. Is that correct? Or does applyLocalizedPattern() in Java somehow translate my hardcoded pattern in a localized pattern.I would imagine that the idea is that the locale defines its own SHORT format, and if you want the locale's SHORT format, you don't get to customize it--the SHORT format is what it is.
I don't know of a good answer to your problem, but if nobody comes up with anything better, I have a suggestion for a kludgey workaround.
Get the format for SHORT, do a regexp replace of "YYYY" for "YY" (making sure you don't already have "YYYY"), then create a new SimpleDateFormat from that.
Not pretty I know, but if nothing more elegant comes up, then it may at least get you the behavior you want. -
How can i convert a the date format 'm/d/yyyy hh:mi:ss AM' to 'MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI:SS AM' in Oracle
I have a query
select UPPER(t.val_10) "TYPE", count(val_3) "Number of Transfers"
from table1 t
where t.is_active = 1
and t.val_4 = 'INBOUND'
and to_date(to_date(val_5,'MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI:SS AM'), 'DD/MM/YY') between to_date(to_date('01/08/2008 00:00:00','DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS'), 'DD/MM/YY') and add_months(to_date(to_date('01/08/2008 00:00:00','DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS'), 'DD/MM/YY'),1)
group by UPPER(t.val_10)
order by UPPER(t.val_10)
I get the error [ORA-01861: literal does not match format string which i think is because
val_5 has the values in the following format:
8/29/2008 6:31:10 PM
Does anyone have an answer?
Thanks in advance
Edited by: user2360027 on 26-Mar-2009 03:50first off, you've got to_date(to_date(...)) - NEVER do this - you're forcing an implicit to_char which can cause all sorts of problems!
What is the data type of your column val_5? If it's DATE then your query is simply:
select UPPER(t.val_10) "TYPE",
count(val_3) "Number of Transfers"
from table1 t
where t.is_active = 1
and t.val_4 = 'INBOUND'
and val_5 between to_date('01/08/2008','DD/MM/YYYY') and add_months(to_date('01/08/2008','DD/MM/YYYY') ,1)
group by UPPER(t.val_10)
order by UPPER(t.val_10)If it's a varchar2 (why, oh why, oh why, ...?!), then your query should be:
select UPPER(t.val_10) "TYPE",
count(val_3) "Number of Transfers"
from table1 t
where t.is_active = 1
and t.val_4 = 'INBOUND'
and to_date(val_5, 'mm/dd/yyyy hh:mi:ss AM') between to_date('01/08/2008','DD/MM/YYYY') and add_months(to_date('01/08/2008','DD/MM/YYYY') ,1)
group by UPPER(t.val_10)
order by UPPER(t.val_10)Remember that dates in DATE format are stored in an internal Oracle format - in order for you to tell Oracle that your string is a date, you need to use to_date. When you want to retrieve a date, you need to use to_char to put it into the format you want to see it in.
Remember also that your nls_date_format defines the default format that you'll see a date, which is what is used in the implicit conversion that oracle does when you select a date:
SQL> alter session set nls_date_format='dd/mm/yyyy hh24:mi:ss';
Session altered.
SQL> select sysdate from dual;
SYSDATE
26/03/2009 11:01:53
1 row selected.
SQL> alter session set nls_date_format='mm/dd/yy hh12:mi:ss AM';
Session altered.
SQL> select sysdate from dual;
SYSDATE
03/26/09 11:02:24 AM
1 row selected.It doesn't make sense to convert something that's already in a DATE format into a DATE format - in order to do that, oracle has to first change the date into a string, and it does that by using the nls_date_format parameter setting - if you're working with dates-in-strings that are in a different format, then all sorts of problems arise, as you have found out! -
Problem with date format "dd-MM-yyyy"
hi all,
i am using jdev 10.1.3.2
My application ADF Swing app.
in my database i have a table employee which contains "birthday".
my problem is that i must use date format"dd-MM-yyyy".
i added this format into "formatinfo.xml" file.
than i choose it in my EO.
i create a form which contains employees.
for example i have an employee with a birthday=25-10-1970
in my text field if user puts "1970-10-25"'which is not the best format) he will have a correct result "25-10-1970"
but if user puts "25-10-1970" he will have as result "21-02-0031" which is not the real value.
please help me.
thanks.
PS: i did some research before posting but i didn't find yetRouz,
Did you try what i said before?
* Open you EntityObject
* Expand the attribute tree
* Choose your DOB attribute
* Choose the Control hints pane on the right
* Choose Formater: Simple date format
* Choose Format mask dd-MM-yyyy
Run your application and try it.
This is how i change the format and it works perfectly.
I uses the correct format to show the date and it enables me to edit the date using the format mask dd-MM-yyyy
Edit: I just tried it myself. I can only reproduce it by removing my mask. Ergo, the application expects the default american format yyyy-MM-dd. By entering a date in the format dd-MM-yyyy the framework will convert it to yyyy-MM-dd and you'll end up with 0031-02-21.
CONCLUSION follow the steps i discribed above to set your mask and you'll be fine.

Can any body please help out how to store the date in dd/mm/yyyy format ?Can u please explain this a bit
This is my code
public int addBook(List<Book> BookList) throws SQLException, ParseException{
System.out.println("Hi there");
Book book = new Book();
BookDB bookDb = new BookDB();
//listLength = BookList.length;
String bookId = null;
try{
DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@10.123.79.195:1521:findb01","e115314", "e115314");
addBook = con.prepareStatement("insert into ABC_Book values(?,?,?,?,?,?,?)");
Iterator<Book> iterator = BookList.iterator();
while(iterator.hasNext()){
book = (Book)iterator.next();
System.out.println(book.getBookId());
addBook.setString(1,book.getBookId());
addBook.setString(2,book.getTitle());
addBook.setString(3,book.getAuthor());
addBook.setString(4,book.getPublisher());
System.out.println(book.getPublicationDate());
System.out.println("Before Date");
System.out.println("book.getPublicationDate().getTime()"+book.getPublicationDate().getTime());
java.sql.Date publicationDate = new java.sql.Date(book.getPublicationDate().getTime().getTime());
SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/mm/yyyy");
dateString = formatter.format(publicationDate);
System.out.println("Today is"+dateString);
java.sql.Date date = (java.sql.Date)formatter.parse(dateString);
System.out.println("date"+date);
//java.sql.Date publicationDate = (Date)book.getPublicationDate().getTime();
//System.out.println("Value of date is"+publicationDate);
System.out.println("After Date");
addBook.setDate(5,publicationDate);
addBook.setString(6,book.getCountry());
addBook.setString(7,book.getLanguage());
rs = addBook.executeQuery();
//con.commit();
rowCount = rowCount + rs.getRow();
return rowCount;
catch(SQLException se){
se.printStackTrace();
finally{
con.close();
System.out.println("After adding ");

How to convert COLUMN_WID to date format mm/dd/yyy
Hi Experts,
How do I convert the COLUMN_WID (ex. 20121120) to date format mm/dd/yyy (ex. 11/20/2012) using the RPD in BMM Layer?
Hope that I convey my questions clearly.
Thanks,Hi,
By Analysis:Go to edit analysis -->date(YYYYMMDD) column properties--->select Data format tab -->
enable Override Default Data Format check box and select date format as "Custom" then
Custom Date Formate mm/dd/yyy then test it
Also you can do it via evaluate function (analysis/RPD)

How to get the date format yyyy-mm-dd?
Hi,
I have an iphone (3.1.2) and would like to use the date format yyyy-mm-dd (international date format). Is the possible? If yes, how?
CheersI know of no other way to set the date format other than what I mentioned in my previous post. There are third party apps that will do what you want in the app. store, but they are not permitted to access the underlining software.

How can I do it?
Regards

When I log in with 6.0.38.1 android client, I get date format in dd/mm/yyyy independent of device date format (I checked by changing device date format) and when I log in with 6.0.30.x android client, I get date format in mm/dd/yyyy independent of device date format for the same export to same connection.
Don't know why this is happening.

How to set Date format and how to edit
Hi all,
I am supposed to select a date from calendar and put the date in a textfield in the format dd/mm/yyyy.
Getting date from the calendar and putting it in textfield is not a big problem.
Here I have to edit the date in the text field in such a way that clicking with a mouse on "dd" in the textfield dd part of the textfield should get selected and I should be able to edit date without affecting any other part in the textfield.Similarly clicking on the "mm" of text field,the mm part should get selected and i should be able to edit month without affecting other parts of the textfield and similarly the year field also.Here I should not be able to edit the "/" which is in between dd and mm, mm and yyyy.Is there any date format which i can set to textfield to achieve this.
pls help me.
