Convert PHP Site to AIR Application
I am working in an educational institute. I developed a website for controlling students admission & scheduling. This is only for departmental use. I like to convert this application to a standalone desktop application by using adobe air. In this PHP application form submission and data retrieving except some complex pages done through http request.
I am really confused, where I can start, what are the steps? is it need to convert all PHP to Ajax? is it need to change all graphics & graphic menus?
Please help…
thanks
Have you installed an Apache Testing Server on your machine yet? If you're using Windows, you can install Wamp or Xampp server with phpMyAdmin to help you manage the MySql databases on your local machine.

Once your testing server is installed, you'll need to define your testing server in DW. See screenshots below. I'm using wamp server. And my web site folder is in the default web directory -- wamp\www\

How to get the data from mysql database which is being accessed by a PHP application and process the data locally in adobe air application and finally commit the changes back in to mysql database through the PHP application.
If the data is on a remote server (for example, PHP running on a web server, talking to a MySQL server) then you do this in an AIR application the same way you would do it with any Flex application (or ajax application, if you're building your AIR app in HTML/JS).
That's a broad answer, but in fact there are lots of ways to communicate between Flex and PHP. The most common and best in most cases is to use AMFPHP (http://amfphp.org/) or the new ZEND AMF support in the Zend Framework.
This page is a good starting point for learning about Flex and PHP communication:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/flex_php.html
Also, in Flash Builder 4 they've added a lot of remote-data-connection functionality, including a lot that's designed for PHP. Take a look at the Flash Builder 4 public beta for more on that: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashbuilder4/ -

Installing an AIR application generated from a PHP script using a badge
I have written a PHP script to return a file with the Content-Type header set to application/vnd.adobe.air-application-installer-package+zip to simulate a response that looks like an AIR file. The Content-Length and Content-Disposition headers are also being sent. I am then writing the bytes of the file to the output. This appears to work in the browser, as the file downloads and can be installed. However, when the badge tries to use the URL, I get a Stream 2032 error. Does the AIR badge not allow a URL without an .air extension, even if the response is in the correct format for an AIR file? If this is allowed, are there other headers that need to be set for this to work?
Thanks,
PaulI figured it out. The AIR installer was stripping out my query parameters. I made the URL use slashes for the parameters with a rewrite instead of ? and & it worked.

Protect a desktop air application
HI
I currently use Zinc to wrap my swf and then add softlocker copy protection to that
it all works ok.
I would prefer to use an air application but need to know if is there is a way
to prevent users just copying it onto other computers.
cheers
KBNThe method I use will allow you encrpyt most of your source code using a key that is unique to every computer.
The initial download of my software is a simple air app that does not contain the actual program. It is more like a shell that first retreaves a list of the clients mac addresses and the user entered activation code that is created at time of purchase. This is sent to server and logged. The activation code is saved to a file client side. At the server the mac address and activation key are used to create the encryption key. The bulk of the program code is then encrypted using that key, then divided into parts and sent back to the client.
The client puts the parts back together and saves the encrypted file.
At runtime the shell finds the mac address list and the activation key, then using same method as server gets the encryption key and decrypts the program file. Run simple check to make sure it loaded. For encyption i found an aes method that works in php and javascript.
Next I use this code to load the program
var loader = air.HTMLLoader.createRootWindow(true, options, true, windowBounds);
loader.cacheResponse=false;
loader.placeLoadStringContentInApplicationSandbox=true;
loader.loadString(page);
This method makes it very difficult to copy to another computer although since I wrote it i know there are some weeknesses in the security but to make it harder i obv. the shell code. It at least keeps most from pirating.
However there are issues with this that I have found.
First i was using networkInfo to get the list of mac address but this failed in a test windows XP computer. When the wireless was off it did not return the MAC. I was not able to recreate this in VISTA or 7. Not sure if it could happen. Was not tested on a mac computer. To fix this (at least for windows). I wrote a simple bat file that gets the MAC list, then converted it to an exe which is included. This does force you to create native installers. call the exe with this
var nativeProcessStartupInfo = new air.NativeProcessStartupInfo();
var file = air.File.applicationDirectory.resolvePath("findmac.exe");
nativeProcessStartupInfo.executable = file;
process = new air.NativeProcess();
process.start(nativeProcessStartupInfo);
process.addEventListener(air.ProgressEvent.STANDARD_OUTPUT_DATA, onOutputData);
process.addEventListener(air.ProgressEvent.STANDARD_ERROR_DATA, onErrorData);
process.addEventListener(air.NativeProcessExitEvent.EXIT, onExit);
process.addEventListener(air.IOErrorEvent.STANDARD_OUTPUT_IO_ERROR, onIOError);
process.addEventListener(air.IOErrorEvent.STANDARD_ERROR_IO_ERROR, onIOError);
put the list together in the onOutputData event using array.push
and continue on the onExit event
using the findmac.exe will return the same info every time (that i know of)
beware thought that using the native install will break the standard application update process so you will have to write your own. my updates are processed the same way as above.
This is contents of the .bat file to get the mac list
@Echo off
SETLOCAL
SET MAC=
SET Media=Connected
FOR /F "Tokens=1-2 Delims=:" %%a in ('ipconfig /all^| FIND "Physical Address"') do @echo %%b
ENDLOCAL
using this method makes it simple to implement at try before you by method. at runtime if no activation code get try me version from server instead of full version. -

Unable to send file in binary mode to ftp server using AIR application
Hi, Can any one help me. i am trying to send local files to ftp server in binary mode from AIR application using sockets.
I cant use PASV mode for this FTP server because security restrictions. when i am trying to send Binary command i am always getting
error code 500 which is unrecognized command. I googled for solutions but i cant find any one using Binary mode to send data every example is using PASV mode to send
file.
code example:
private function upload():void{
sendCommand("binary ");
private function sendCommand(arg:String):void {
arg +="\n";
s.writeUTFBytes(arg);
s.flush();
in response i am getting unrecognized command.I'm successfully using an ftp example from http://http://projects.maliboo.pl/FlexFTP/
that I converted to spark and uses a popup progress window.
If you don't need to use sockets I can post a sample project.
I believe I still connect with PASV, but have no problems sending Binary files.
I don't think they're commands that are dependent on each other -

Any help in 'decoding' this installation error message and guidance for a resolution is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
MarkI don't have an answer, just wanted to share your frustration. I'm running Windows Vista on a Toshiba Satellite with 40+GB free hard disk space and 2GB RAM so space is not the problem. All updates have been made.
My AIR log shows the identical error info. I have requested help from the application's author, which first suggested it was Firefox causing the problem, but downloading from Chrome and IE made no difference. Nor did reinstalling AIR. A friend was able to download this app with no problem. And I was able to download the other (somewhat smaller) JL app with no problem, which really seems strange.
Hoping someone here with more tech knowledge might be able to offer a suggestion. If I get a helpful reply from the app author, I'll be sure to share it. -
AIR Intrinsic Classes-Tried and Proven Approach to building AIR applications in the Flash CS3 IDE
Hi everyone,
For all of you out there who would like to develop AIR
applications
from the Flash CS3 IDE but aren't sure how to get those pesky
intrinsic
classes working, I have a technique that you can work with to
create
your classes and make fully functional AIR applications.
First of all, those solutions out there that list
"intrinsic" functions
in their class definitions won't work. That keyword has been
taken out
and simply won't work. The "native" keyword also doesn't work
because
Flash will reject it. The solution is to do dynamic name
resolution at
runtime to get all the classes you need.
Here's a sample class that returns references to the "File",
"FileStream", and "FileMode" classes:
package com.adobe{
import flash.utils.*;
import flash.display.*;
public class AIR extends MovieClip {
public static function get File():Class {
try {
var classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.File');
} catch (err:ReferenceError) {
return (null);
}//catch
return (classRef);
}//get File
public static function get FileMode():Class {
try {
var
classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.FileMode');
} catch (err:ReferenceError) {
return (null);
}//catch
return (classRef);
}//get FileMode
public static function get FileStream():Class {
try {
var
classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.FileStream');
} catch (err:ReferenceError) {
return (null);
}//catch
return (classRef);
}//get FileStream
}//AIR class
}//com.adobe package
I've defined the package as com.adobe but you can call it
whatever you
like. You do, however, need to import "flash.utils.*" because
this
package contains the "getDefinitionByName" method. Here I'm
also
extending the MovieClip class so that I can use the extending
class
(shown next) as the main Document class in the Flash IDE.
Again, this is
entirely up to you. If you have another type of class that
will extend
this one, you can have this one extend Sprite, Math, or
whatever else
you need (or nothing if it's all the same to you).
Now, in the extending class, the Document class of the FLA,
here's the
class that extends and uses it:
package {
import com.adobe.AIR;
public class airtest extends AIR{
public function airtest() {
var field:TextField=new TextField();
field.autoSize='left';
this.addChild(field);
field.text="Fileobject="+File;
}//constructor
}//airtest class
}//package
Here I'm just showing that the class actually exists but not
doing much
with it.
If you run this in the Flash IDE, the text field will show
"File
object=null". This is because in the IDE, there really is no
File
object, it only exists when the SWF is running within the
Integrated
Runtime. However, when you run the SWF as an AIR application
(using the
adl.exe utility that comes with the SDK, for example), the
text field
will now show: "File object=[object File]". Using this
reference, you
can use all of the File methods directly (have a look here
for all of
them:
http://livedocs.adobe.com/labs/flex/3/langref/flash/filesystem/File.html).
For example, you can call:
var appResource:File=File.applicationResourceDirectory;
This particular method is static so you don't need an
instance. If you
do (such as when Flash tells you the property isn't static),
simply
create an instance like this:
var fileInstace:File=new File();
fileInstance.someMethod('abc'); //just an example...read the
reference
for actual function calls
Because the getter function in the AIR class returns a Class
reference,
it allows you to perform all of these actions directly as
though the
File class is part of the built in class structure (which in
the
runtime, it is!).
Using this technique, you can create references to literally
*ALL* of
the AIR classes and use them to build your AIR application.
The beauty
of this technique is its brevity. When you define the class
reference,
all of the methods and properties are automatically
associated with it
so you don't need reams of code to define each and every
item.
There's a bit more that can be done with this AIR class to
make it
friendlier and I'll be extending mine until all the AIR
classes are
available. If anyone's interested, feel free to drop me a
line or drop
by my site at
http://www.baynewmedia.com
where I'll be posting the
completed class. I may also make it into a component if
there's enough
interest. To all of you who knew all this already, I hope I
didn't waste
your time.
Happy coding,
PatrickWow, you're right. The content simply doesn't show up at all.
No
JavaScript or HTML parsing errors, apparently. But no IE7
content.
I'll definitely have to look into that. In the meantime, try
FireFox :)
I'm trying to develop a panel to output AIR applications from
within the
Flash IDE. GSkinner has one but I haven't been able to get it
to work
successfully. Mine has exported an AIR app already so that's
a step in
the right direction but JSFL is a tricky beast, especially
when trying
to integrate it using MMExecute strings.
But, if you can, create AIR applications by hand. I haven't
yet seen an
application that allows you to change every single option
like you can
when you update the application.xml file yourself. Also, it's
a great
fallback skill to have.
Let me know if you need some assistance with AIR exports.
Once you've
done it a couple of times, it becomes pretty straightforward.

Html display order : PDF document in AIR application
Hello.
I read
"The display order of a PDF file operates differently than other display objects in an AIR application. Although PDF content clips correctly according to HTML display order, it will always sit on top of content in the AIR application's display order."
I am concerned with the "PDF content clips correctly according to HTML display order" part. I would like to know what it exactly means. That is I want to be sure that I could put, for example, and image over the PDF doc, or any other HTML elements without them being graphically overridden by the PDF view. Thanks in advance.My reading of the quoted bits is: Inside the PDF, layer ordering rules should work correctly. But the PDF itself will float above any other content in AIR.

Displaying server stored images in an air application
Usually when I go about displaying server stored images in a regular flex application I go about it the following way:-
- Create a mysql database table on a server which contains image names
- Create a php file which generates all of the image namesfrom the table as xml and upload this file to the server
- Create a new flex application/project
- In the application make a http service which points to my php/xml file and turns this data into an array collection
- Set the array collection to the dataprovider of a tilelist component so that all of the images will eventually be displayed within it when they are created
- I set the itemrenderer of the tilelist to an image component which has it's source set to something like source="{'assets/images'+ data.imagename}" with imagename being the field containing the name of the image which is stored in the mysql database table.
- Make a folder in the app/project called assets/images which will contain all of the images
- Upload the app to the server and once it runs all the images will be displayed in the application
- Then any images that are uploaded to the server can also be displayed as long as their names are added to the mysql database
My question is though how do you get server stored images to display within an Air Application? My air app will be used on multiple machines but I want the images in it to be dynamic i.e. stored on a server and can be changed. How can this be done?I'm struggling to figure out how to access the image files when the assets/images folder will be on a server and the app itself will be on the user's desktop whereas usually in the case of a regular flex app this wouldn't mater as both the app and the image files would be on the server together. Is what I'm trying to do possible i.e. displaying images on a desktop air app straight from a server?

Hi All,
Does anyone have sample code how to consume and use the Docconverter service from Adobe Livecycle 8.2 ES in Flex Builder 3.0 AIR Application. I want to consume both the methods 1) toPDFA and 2) isPDFA methods to convert a PDF to PDFA and to check the compliance after conversion. If any one could help me in this, would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance
Umashanker.KI think the problem you are experiencing is this one:
http://subclipse.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=511
You probably have Subclipse 1.2.4 installed, which is the
latest official release. But the new release based on Subversion
1.5 has been in development for over a year. It will be version
1.4.0 and probably released next week when Subversion 1.5 is
released. -
How to Add Input Values into a XML in Flex AIR Application
I need a help, now I am developing a flex windows AIR application, in this I am displaying data using a xml file,

Vasanth,
ChennaiYou can use the "+" operator which is both the addition (number) and concatenation (string) operator. JavaScript makes the decision about how this operator will work by the type of the value of being processed. Two numbers JavaScript performs addition, character string and number, number and character string, or 2 character strings then concatenation.
If you just use the '+' operator and spaces, you will get extra spaces unless you add code to allow for null fields and adjusting the spacing or other punctuation as needed. You may also need to force numeric values to character stings or you might end up with an addition and not concatenation.
Adobe provided a example of a funciton to properly join 3 fields with full versions of Acrobat:
function fillin(s1, s2, s3, sep) {
// Concatenate 3 strings with separators where needed
// convert passed strings to a string value
s1 = s1.toString();
s2 = s2.toString();
s3 = s3.toString();
// assign a numeric value for presence of a given string(s)
var test = 0; // no passed strings
if (s1 != "") test += 1; // s1 has a value
if (s2 != "") test += 2; // s2 has a value
if (s3 != "") test += 4; // s3 has a value
// return appropriate combination based on passed strings
if (test == 0) return ""; // no stings passed
if (test == 1) return s1; // s1 only
if (test == 2) return s2; // s2 only
if (test == 3) return s1 + sep + s2; // s1 and s2
if (test == 4) return s3; // s3 only
if (test == 5) return s1 + sep + s3; // s1 and s3
if (test == 6) return s2 + sep + s3; // s2 and s3
if (test == 7) return s1 + sep + s2 + sep + s3; // s1, s2, and s3 -
Xhow XDP file in AIR application
Does anyone knows how to load an XDP file in a HTML component
in an AIR application? Loading PDF files is no problem.
The XDP comes from a JAVA webserver. So, another possibility
would be to convert the XDP to PDF on the server, before sending it
to the AIR application. Does anyone knows if this is possible?

Embedding a mini webserver with AIR applications
After failing to find a solution to the problem I mentioned
here:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=75&catid=697&threadid =1392396&highlight_key=y&keyword1=jpeg
and in several other threads,,
I started looking for ways to use external libraries,, and
possibly
the GD Library.
Is it possible to embed a mini web server with Adobe Air
applications
(along with the GD library) ?? Has anybody succeeded in
achieving
similar tasks ??No there isn't a good way to do this from AIR. The biggest
problem is that you couldn't start up the server from AIR, so a
user would always need to start the server, then start your AIR
app.
You could use Pixel Bender to solve your image resizing
quality problem. Pixel Bender is available in the Flash 10 beta
now, and should be available in the next release of AIR. (See
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Pixel_Bender_Toolkit.)
Note that your image quality problem is not with the JPEG encoder,
it is the resize operation. Since bitmap smoothing is not working
for some reason, you get nearest neighbor sampling -- which
produces the artifacts that you see in your images. Using Pixel
Bender you could code your own resize filter that uses bilinear or
even bicubic sampling.
