Convert String to java UTC date then to sql date

Hi,
I am trying to convert string (MM/dd/yyyy format) to UTC date time and store in the database.
This is what I did:
String dateAsString = "10/01/2007";
SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yyyy");
formatter.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("GMT"));
formatter.setLenient(false);
java.util.date dateValue = formatter.parse(dateAsString, new ParsePosition(0));
dateValue will be Sun Sep 30 20:00:00 EDT 2007 in UTC.
Now I need to store this date and time to MS SQL database.
I used the following code:
java.sql.Date sqlDateValue = new java.sql.Date(parsedToDate.getTime());
But this code give only the date, not time 2007-09-30
Can anybody tell me how I can change this java date to sql date (or datetime?) so that I can get both date and time.
Thanks,
semaj

  • Extracting data from ms sql data base

    Hi Experts,
    we have a requirement of extracting data from MS SQL data base,could any one pls help me with the approach to extract data
    from ms sql data base(actually we have to extract the data from PRIMAVERA i.e the back end data base is MS SQL data base and the application is built on java)so we have got two options one is using ud connect and the other one is using PI(XI).i came to know the two approach have based on differenct methods,pull and push mechanism.and also for PI,it can be extracted using
    real time data acquisition property in dtp and for db connect it don't support real time data acqusition.
    so pls guide me,which mechanism would be feasible to extract the data from PRIMAVERA to SAP BI.and can you suggest with methods is more efficient.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi thanks for the reply,
    initially we tried with db connect,but our Bi system(oracle) is mount on unix OS and the Primavera(MS Sql DB)is on windows OS.so we could not found the data base shared library  once if the DB client is installed on the application server.so we are working around with the other possibilities,so can you suggest me which could be favarable in our case.
    Thank You.

  • XSL transform question from XML date datatype to SQL date datatype

    Just to give an idea, I am reading some employee information in a CSV format and I have created the fileadapter to read it and parse it into coherent information where each comma separated value corresponds to a column in an employee table. One of the columns is of the date object in the database.
    So my my variable is created with a list of employees and then fed into the invoke that calls a dbadapter that does the insert. I am using a transformation to get the values from one variable into the other simply because of namespace conflicts. However the xml date will not match the sql date object as to be expected...but how do I work around it? I have a few ideas but I am not sure they are worth mentioning.
    Any suggestions?

  • Convert String ("2008-Mar-25 08:33:36") to Date 2008-Mar-25 08:33:36

    I have a Date in String format. I need to convert it to Date in the same format. As in the subject the String is "2008-Mar-25 08:33:36" ; I need to convert it to a Date in the same format. Is there any way of doing it?
    I tried:
    DateFormat toSdf = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-mmm-dd hh:mm:ss");
    Date d = toSdf.parse("2008-Mar-25 08:33:36");// At this point it throws exception "java.text.ParseException: Unparseable date: "2008-Mar-25 08:33:36"
    I know similar threads have been posted. But im posting this again as none of the answers solved my problem. Inconvenience regretted.
    Thanks in Advance,

    m is not the symbol for both months and minutes because that wouldn't make much sense would it?
    m is the symbol for minutes
    M is the symbol for months.
    You should also consult the API and make sure that you are using the right symbol for your hours values. That is a valid one but I have a feeling that your hour value might be 14 or the like sometimes which means you are using the wrong one there as well.

  • Converting String into Java code

    Hi everyone,

    You help is really appreciated.

    Create your Date object from the request parameters and use setDate() instead.

  • Mapping SQL data types (especially SMALLINT) to Java classes

    I want to know the reason for a certain pair of exceptions in JDBCs mapping of SQL data types to Java classes.
    Suns web site ( http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/jdbc/getstart/mapping.html ), Sybases site, and other sites contain mappings from SQL data types to Java primitive data types and/or Java classes. On that Sun web page, Section 9.9.1 maps mostly to Java primitive data types, and Section 9.9.3 maps mostly to Java classes. For the SQL data types that map to both primitive data types and classes, the class is typically the wrapper class of the primitive data type. For example, SQLs DOUBLE data type maps to both the double primitive data type and its wrapper class (Double). However, Section 9.7 of that Sun web page says that there are exceptions for SQLs TINYINT and SMALLINT. As expected, they map to the byte and short primitive data types, but they map to the Integer class, not the Byte and Short classes (which are the wrapper classes for byte and short). The web page does not state the reason for this pair of exceptions. It seems to me that SMALLINT data would either work for both short and Short or fail for both short and Short. I dont see why it would work for short but fail for Short (as the web page implies).
    Can anybody think of a reason for the pair of exceptions? Thanks.

    ghs wrote:
    1) If a DBMS deals with the short and byte primitive data types (as the various web pages imply that it does), then why would it not deal with the Short and Byte wrapper classes?As another guess, because conversions get a little weird in java. Or at least they did in the past. As I recall (with not a lot of clarity) it is possible to do something like pass a perfectly valid string value into a short and get an exception. Whereas using Integer and then converting to Short works.
    Keep in mind that these are guesses.
    3) What I really want to know is this: If I use wrapper classes of Short and Byte (instead of Integer), what will be the harmful consequences (IF ANY)? So far, I have done some trivial testing with a Short for a SMALLINT column (I have not yet tried any TINYINT columns), and it seems to be working.I considered it risky to not test all target databases and drivers.
    Obviously testing will reveal problems.
    If you don't want to test then you might want to stick with integers.

  • Using relational data from SQL data source in Planning and Essbase

    Hi,
    How do I take sample data from a SQL data source and bring it into a Hyperion Planning application? I understand that when creating Planning applications, a link between a relational data source and Essbase must be established, because the relational database holds the metadata while the database outline is stored with Essbase. However, all I am currently able to do is load the data into Planning applicaitons via EAS, where I right-click on the Application database, hit load data, and select from either a .txt file or an excel file. Do I need Oracle Data Integrator? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, as well as corrections to any incorrect assumptions I may have made in this post. Thank you.

    When you import your file (Excel or text), you're importing it using a Load Rule in EAS. To load from SQL, you simply create a SQL load rule. You'll load data the exact same way (via EAS), but with a different type of load rule. The load rule will contain the SQL that queries the database. You can preview your data in the load rule the same way you would with a file.
    If your SQL is very complex, I'd recommend creating a view and loading from that view. But otherwise it's pretty straight-forward.
    The only catch is that you need to configure a database connection (to your relational database) on the Essbase server. The Essbase DBA guide will show you how to do this.
    You COULD use ODI, but I tend to only use it for loading metadata.
    Hope this helps,
    - Jake
