Converting a Double To A String

Is it possible to convert a double to a string. I need to retrieve a double value from an array and display it as a label in an applet.
How do I convert the double value to a string so that I can use it in the applet as a label?
Thanks

try this.
double mydbl = 0;
String mystr = null;
mysstr=mydbl+"".trim();
Paulthis one is nice paul, but it is also possible to do it that way:
double d = 0;
String dStr = Double.toString(d);see also API for classes Boolean, Character, Integer, Byte, Float, Short
all primitives can easyli be turned int for in which you can print them out.

• Converting my double to nice String

Hi,
I am doing a calculation as follows
double x = 12102012 + 2400000.5
System.out.println(Double.toString(x));
Now I want it to display the nice readable format of 14502012.5
instead I get this 1.45020125E7
How can I stop this happening?

The output is stored as a double. You are asking for special output formatting, and you get that by using an instance of NumberFormat. DecimalFormat is probably nicer to use.
Many examples of different formats here:

• Convert double precision float string to a number

I am a newbie with Labview.
I have a GPIB link with a vector voltmeter and I receive the data as a double precision float string (IEEE standard 754-1985). I would like it to be recognized as a number, but I can't find the proper conversion function. The string to convert is 8 byte long. Does anyone have an idea how to do it? Thank you!

Asumming your data is big-endian, you should be able to simply typecast it to a DBL (see attache LV 7.0 example).
(It is possible that your DBL string is little-endian, in this case it will be slightly more complicated. Let us know )Message Edited by altenbach on 05-27-2005 04:49 PM

• How can I convert a double to string

Hello,
how can I convert a double value to a string value?
Werner

an other way: ;)
double yourDouble;
int intTmp;
yourDouble = yourDouble * 100;
yourDouble = yourDouble + 0.5;
intTmp = yourDouble.intValue();
yourDouble = intTmp;
yourDouble = yourDouble / 100;you can write it some shorter...
double yourDouble;
int intTmp;
yourDouble = yourDouble * 100 + 0.5;
yourDouble = yourDouble.intValue() / 100;*100 moves the comma about two steps to the left.
+ 0.5 enables rounding!
if your value is x.5 or larger you get x+1.?
if its smaller than x.5 you get x.?
by parsing the double value to an int the ? is cut.
/100 moves the comma two steps back
you get a double value with 2 decimals which is rounded.
just my coins :)
happy progging,

Hi
In our files, we have a mixture of spaces and tabs as a delimeter. How do I convert a double array into a string?
Thank you.

Not sure about the last part of your question.
The Search and Replace pattern can be better than the simple Search and Replace string when you have to do complex searchs, such as detecting multiple spaces.

• Encoded double byte characters string conversion

I have double byte encoded strings stored in a properties file. A sample of such string below (I think it is japanese):
\u30fc\u30af\u306e\u30a2
I am supposed to read it from file, convert it to actual string and use them on UI. I am not able to figure how to do the conversion -- the string contains text as is, char backslash, char u, and so on. How to convert it to correct text (either using ai::UnicodeString or otherwise)?
Thanks.

Where did this file come from? Some kind of Java or Ruby export? I don't think AI has anything in its SDK that would natively read that. You could just parse the string, looking for \u[4 characters]. I believe if you created a QChar and initialized it with the integer value of the four-character hex string, it would properly create the character.

• Failure to convert infinite double to BigDecimal

I need to convert double to BigDecimal. But one of the double values is infinite and is not converted into the BigDecimal.
I am getting this error.
java.lang.NumberFormatException: Infinite or NaN.
This is how I am converting it.
private BigDecimal convert(Double object) {
return new BigDecimal(object);
Does anybody know how to do this?
Thanks.

It seems to me that BigDecimal can't handle infinite number.Correct. As per the documentation in BigDecimal(double) and BigDecimal(String)
BigDecimal(double)
Throws: NumberFormatException - if val is infinite or NaN.
BigDecimal(String)Translates the string representation of a BigDecimal into a BigDecimal. The string representation consists of an optional sign, '+' ('\u002B') or '-' ('\u002D'), followed by a sequence of zero or more decimal digits ("the integer"), optionally followed by a fraction, optionally followed by an exponent
Throws: NumberFormatException - if val is not a valid representation of a BigDecimal

• Re: cannot be applied to (double,java.lang.String)

It's telling you what the problem is -- you're trying to pass a String in where a double is required. Java is a strongly typed language, which means that you can't expect types to change automatically into other types as needed.
You could, I suppose, parse the string, assuming that it holds a representation of a double. But if you look at the method in question, you'll see that it doesn't even use its second (double) argument.
So you should ask yourself:
1) should that method really take two arguments?
2) what is the second argument for, if I did use it?
3) what is the best type to represent the second argument?
(hint: with a name like "customerType", then an enum seems likely)
[add]
Too slow again.
Though I'll also add: please wrap any code you post in

tags. It makes your code much easier to read.

pow(double,double) in java.lang.Math cannot be
applied to (double,java.lang.String)Read the error diagnostic carefully: the compiler found a pow() method
in the Math class, but it takes two doubles as its arguments. You,
however, supplied a double and a String as the parameter types.
The method found by the compiler cannot be applied to your parameters.
hint: you have to convert that String to a double,

Using ADF Business Components I have a JSFF page fragment with an ADF form based on a table with has a column of type CLOB. The data is retrieved from the database and displayed correctly but when any field is changed and submitted the above error occurs. I have just used the drag and drop technique to create the ADF form with a submit button, am I missing a step?
I am using the production release of Jdeveloper11G

Reproduced and filed bug# 7487124
The workaround is to add a custom converter class to your ViewController project like this
package oow2008.view;
import javax.faces.application.FacesMessage;
import javax.faces.component.UIComponent;
import javax.faces.context.FacesContext;
import javax.faces.convert.Converter;
import javax.faces.convert.ConverterException;
import oracle.jbo.domain.ClobDomain;
import oracle.jbo.domain.DataCreationException;
public class ClobConverter implements Converter {
         public Object getAsObject(FacesContext facesContext,
                                   UIComponent uIComponent,
                                   String string) {
           try {
             return string != null ? new ClobDomain(string) : null;
           } catch (DataCreationException dce) {
             dce.setAppendCodes(false);
             FacesMessage fm =
               new FacesMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_ERROR,
                                "Invalid Clob Value",
                                dce.getMessage());
             throw new ConverterException(fm);
         public String getAsString(FacesContext facesContext,
                                   UIComponent uIComponent,
                                   Object object) {
           return object != null ?
                  object.toString() :
                  null;
}then to register the converter in faces-config.xml like this
<faces-config version="1.2" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee">
      <application>
        <default-render-kit-id>oracle.adf.rich</default-render-kit-id>
      </application>
      <converter>
        <converter-id>clobConverter</converter-id>
        <converter-class>oow2008.view.ClobConverter</converter-class>
      </converter>
</faces-config>then reference this converter in the field for the ClobDomain value like this
              <af:inputText value="#{bindings.Description.inputValue}"
                            label="#{bindings.Description.hints.label}"
                            required="#{bindings.Description.hints.mandatory}"
                            columns="40"
                            maximumLength="#{bindings.Description.hints.precision}"
                            shortDesc="#{bindings.Description.hints.tooltip}"
                            wrap="soft" rows="10">
                <f:validator binding="#{bindings.Description.validator}"/>
                <f:converter converterId="clobConverter"/>
              </af:inputText>

• Need to convert a long into a string, please

hi there
i need to convert a long into a string. can i just cast it like this:
(String)longNumber = some function that returns a long;

Why not just use Long.toString()? If you start with a long value, you can create a Long object and get it's value as a String.

• How can I convert  an ArrayList to a String[]

Hi,
How can I convert an ArrayList (only with strings) to a String[] ?
I've tried this :
         public static String listToString(List l) {
              StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();

Strings are Objects but not all Objects are Strings and at least one of the elements in your List is not a String.
