Converting AS2 XML Function To AS3

Hi guys, how are you?
Once again I´m here to request your help.
I´m trying to convert an AS2 to AS3 script, but I´m not good at AS3 sintax yet. I don´t know how to create this structure. Please, someone could help me?
xml:
<resources>
         <levelTitle1>Iniciante</levelTitle1>
          <levelTitle5>Aprendiz</levelTitle5>
          <levelTitle10>Aspirante</levelTitle10>
          <levelTitle15>Recruta</levelTitle15>
          <levelTitle20>Experiente</levelTitle20>
          <levelTitle30>Profissional</levelTitle30>
          <levelTitle50>Star</levelTitle50>
          <levelTitle70>Ás</levelTitle70>
          <levelTitle90>Campeão</levelTitle90>
          <levelTitle120>Lenda</levelTitle120>
</resources>
AS2 Function:
public static function getLanguage(tag:String):String
           if (languageObject[tag].data){
                    return slanguageObject.resources[tag].data;
             return "Error";
I can´t figure out how to work in as3 without the "data" parameter.
I would like to call this as2 function, pass "levelTitle30" to  the parameter "tag", and get back by return of the function  the content of  "levelTitle30"  from xml tag.
Regards,

is your xml in an external file?
if yes, (eg, resources.xml), you would use:
var xml:XML
var urlLoader:URLLoader=new URLLoader();
urlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,completeF);
urlLoader.load(new URLRequest("resources.xml"));
function completeF(e:Event):void{
xml=e.target.data;
public static function getLanguage(tag:String):String{
if(xml[tag]){
return xml[tag];
} else {
return "Error";

  • Help converting AS2 rollover buttons to AS3

    This is probably a really dumb question, but I'm very new to AS3 so please bear with me. I created some rollover buttons (movieclips) for a flash website in AS2 using the following code:
    onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
        this.onRollOver = function() {
        this.gotoAndPlay(1);
    onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
        this.onRollOut = function() {
        this.gotoAndStop(1);
    on (release){
        getURL("index.html", "_parent");
    Could anyone advise me on how to start converting this code into AS3? I know I have to use an EventListener but I don't really understand how it works.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    I have changed my code to:
    Link1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, onMouseOver);
    Link1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, onMouseOut);
    Link1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick);
    function onMouseOver(e:MouseEvent):void {
            Link1.gotoAndPlay(1);
    function onMouseOut(e:MouseEvent):void {
              Link1.gotoAndStop(1);
    function onClick(e:MouseEvent):void {
            Link1.navigateToURL(new URLRequest("index.html"), "_parent");
    But it still doesn't work very well. The animation for the rollover keeps playing over and over, ignoring the "stop" I have within the frame of the movieclip.
    You can view my website at: http://www.halopantryandgrill.com/test/index.php to get an idea of how my rollovers worked before. This was done in AS2.
    I can't seem to get the same effect to work in AS3

  • Convert AS2 swf to AS3 swf

    I have a swf (written in AS3) that loads other swfs into it.
    There are no issues when loading other AS3 swfs but there is a
    problem loading AS2 swfs. I get the following error:
    TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert
    flash.display::AVM1Movie@35d3a51 to flash.display.MovieClip.
    Is there any way to convert the AS2 swf into a AS3 swf so it
    will be compatible with my loader? I cannot go back and change the
    AS2 swfs because I do not have the fla files. Or is there any way
    to incorporate AS3 code that will load AS2 swfs properly? It seems
    hard to believe that Adobe would neglect this backwards
    compatibility issue. Thanks

    Hello Andrei1,
    Thanks for looking at my simple AS3 code. The AS2 swfs that
    I've been working (and having difficulties) with are components
    that I've purchased from places like www.flashden.com. Some are
    image transitions (such as "Dynamic Image Draw found at
    http://www.flashden.net/item/dynamic-image-draw/7532)
    while another is used to create a looped banner rotator animation
    (IMG_loop, a free d/l from www.afcomponents.net). I have another
    that uses an .xml file to configure a slideshow animation.
    You mention "needing to do more" if AS2 scripts inside its
    swf are to be run by the parent AS3 fla; what would these lines of
    code be?
    In researching my problem further I've since realized that
    most of these issues deal both with the version of AS used, as well
    as the version of the Flash player the fla is set up to animate
    for. In particular, the "Dynamic Image Draw" component requires
    that Flash Player 8 or 9 be used with AS2.
    Given that many of my purchased components are like this,
    I've since changed my main fla movie from AS3 back to AS2 and have
    learned that the scripting needed to call individual multiple swfs
    into it at various points in the timeline is MUCH simpler!!!!! One
    single, easily interpreted, line of code vs. 5 lines using
    variables and much more arcane (to me) function calls.
    I started my file with AS3 figuring that I'd be better off
    learning the new version of the language; much stress and
    forehead-rubbing later, I've seen just how much easier and
    understandable AS2 is to learn.
    I recognize that there are likely very strong arguments for
    the more structured coding approach used by AS3, but for someone
    like me who wants to generate customized Flash presentations with
    little fuss, I'm not qualified to make them.
    Perhaps this is a no brainer for those many flash gurus out
    there, but for me this tiny bit of wisdom has been hard fought for!
    That being said, is there an easy way to convert a swf file
    created using AS2 to something that AS3 can work/interact with?
    I've come across a free d/l product called actionscript bridge, but
    haven't been able to understand how to get it to work.

    Hi All,
    This is the second post on help for converting AS2 to AS3. This code is used in Captivate to allow a drag and drop action between two areas (User presses down, drags, and releases in a second area - They are not dragging any object). If anyone can help me convert this please let me know.

  • Converting AS2 to AS3?  Can it be done?

    Hi,
    First I'm not a Flash developer, I'm asking this question to help another group trouble shoot a problem. While I know this sounds dumb, I need an official answer to they can close this solution as some type of an option to solve this problem.
    I was given several swfs from an elearning course in hopes that they could someone be put into Captivate and wrapped for an LMS.  Apparently the Flash developer isn't able to code these files for the LMS (weird yes, but not my task in this problem)  In looking at the swfs I was given they all say they were created using AS2 and of course, Captivate only supports AS3.
    Short of redoing the Flash files in AS3 is there any other way to take something written Flash using AS2 and output it to a swf that is AS3?
    Thanks for indulging me with your time.

    You cannot "Convert" an as2.swf to an as3.swf.
    You would need to have the original .fla file that created the as2.swf and manually export it to as3.
    The actionScript may need converting depending on several things. Hard to give an exact answer.
    An example of something needing conversion would be as something simple as a something referenced in a function may be doing something like...
    _parent.movieClipName._visible = true ;
    needs to be changed to
    parent.movieClipName.visible = true;
    because the underscore needed in certain name references was removed in AS3.
    There are too many things that could need changing to name them all.
    Another approach that "may" work as a creative workaround (hack) ...
    You could create a new as3.fla and export a new as3.swf that can actually
    load the original as2.swf file into the new as3.swf
    Then just load the new as3.swf into Captivate.
    Here is a link that will help and there is an example available to download

  • Converting hexadecimal XML data to a string

    Hello!
    Until now I generated XML data with the FM 'SDIXML_DOM_TO_XML'.
    After that I did a loop over the xml_as_table in which I was casting each line of that table to a string.
    ASSIGN <line> TO <line_c> CASTING.
    After the inftroduction of unicode in our system I get a error:
    In the current program an error occured when setting the field symbol <LINE_C> with ASSIGN or ASSIGNING (maybe in combination with the CASTING addition).
    When converting the base entry of the field symbol <LINE_C> (number in base table: 32776), it was found that the target type requests a memory alignment of 2
    What does it mean? Does somebody have a solution.

  • Converting string xml to xsd format ?

    Hi,
    my web service receives a xml as an input in string format.
    it is passed to other web services for processing purpose.
    during execution of each web service, I need to extract some node values multiple times which causes performance overhead.
    can I convert the input xml (as string) into xsd structure (similar to OTD) so that I can simply map it while passing it to other web services? it should save me unnecessary extraction of same nodes in other web services.
    how to do it?
    is there any better approach for this?
    suraj

    Within the JBI environment, the XML message is typically passed around as a DOM Document (wrapped as a TRAX DOMSource), so the document is parsed only once. This should be very quick, even when evaluating XPath functions to find parts of the document repeatedly. DOM and OTD aren't that dissimilar, so you should be comfortable with it.
    When sending the XML message "across the wire", you are forced to serialize to XML again. This is the foundation of interoperability and loose coupling.
    Sometimes converting the XML to a more convenient form (different schema) can help make it easier/quicker to run queries against.

    To convert the string back to XML - ora:parseEscapedXML(bpws:getVariableData('stringpayloadVar'))

  • Can't convert stack XML file using report RPT_MOPZ_COPY_STACK for upgrade

    Hello Colleagues/ SAP Experts,
    Here is a background. 2 weeks ago, we have generated an XML stack file using MOPZ in solman 7.1 for the following systems (P6D which is DEV,
    P6Q which is quality, P6R which is regression and P1P which is production). We were at our technical cutover rehearsal phase and the system that we were rehearsing was P6R. But AFTER our technical cutover, a new java component, which is seeburger as2 adapter, was installed in P1P, PRODUCTION. Thus, the landscape  of P1P has changed as a new component was introduced and we believe that the generated XML file 2 weeks ago will no longer be valid for P1P. Instead of generating another xml file thru mopz for P1P, we would like to use report RPT_MOPZ_COPY_STACK_XML to convert the XML file OF P6R to map it toP1P.  I have uploaded P6R XML and the target is P1P. So as you can see, P6R XML (source) --> P1P target.
    Actions already done are the following:
    1) Fulfilled and followed the resolution in note: 1711612
    RPT_MOPZ_COPY_STACK_XML Report Troubleshooting
    2) SAP-OSS is working in SM59
    Basically, program RPT_MOPZ_COPY_STACK does not convert the Regression system's xml to the target, which is production. Kindly see attached screenshot. *the screenshot shows only 1 component in error but upon clicking the 'next difference' button, it will still show other components. I have checked my lmdb settings, will there be workaround for the issue?

    Hello Divyanshu Srivastava / Reagan Benjamin ,
    Thank you  for your replies. Yes I noticed that a new higher patch for one java component was already present when I have regenerated recently for production using mopz. Anyways, SAP has returned a message wherein they edited the xml file themselves. Most of errors were eliminated only error was kernel versions was not matched. We need to upgrade kernel of our production and test if it works. Hopefully it will. Thanks though at first we did not edit the xml as according to one sap note I read it will not be supported by SAP. Closing this thread now

  • Create an XML object with AS3

    I want to create a basic XML object in AS3, but don't know
    how to do this.
    I first tried creating a string that represented my XML
    elements and their values, but then I don't know how to convert
    this string into an XML object.
    Secondly, I believe there are other ways of creating XML
    objects in AS without doing anything with strings.
    Can somebody please recommend to me a way to do this?
    An XML example to create with AS3 is:

    I've figured out the solution to my problem. For anyone
    interested, see me code below (the xml element names are different,
    but the concept is the same).

  • IDOC not to be converted to XML-IDOC

    Hi
    there is a setting you can make in XI so that IDOCS sent to XI from R/3 are not converted to XML-IDOC.
    That parameter is XML_CONVERSION.
    I found out from SAP today that this will only work if you are sending from R/3 to R/3 via XI.
    But I want this to work for R/3 to ThirdParty via XI.
    So SAP are saying this will not work.
    OK - so does anybody have a simple XSLT I can use that will strip out the XML tags so I have a plain old IDOC ?

    Hi,
    1.if, so then ask him to provide SAP at target (in this case its possible)...there is no other option.(as of now SAP does't provide these kind of functionality)
    2.otherwise if he required the same structure at target then go with IDoc...PI...File scenario
    Please explain to your end user clearly about IDoc functionality..hope he will understand..

  • Passing variable with function in AS3

    This is a function on the first frame of a .fla updated to AS3 from an old AS2 file:
    function initialize() {
    MovieClip(root).stage_target_mc.max_messages = 600;
    When the function is called it should set "max_messages" to 600 in AS3, right?
    Thanks

    Only if the function is called.  If this is going to be a set value that applies any time, then you don't need that line in a function, and if it's on the main timeline, you don't need the root reference.
