Converting mpeg4 to mp3

I moved some of my songs from an old Zune accout onto an SD card, plugged the SD card into my laptop (Windows), and moved the songs from the SD card to my music library. Since they were songs I had put on Zune, some are mpg4 files and some are Windows Media Player files. I had gone to an Apple store before with the same question, and one of the geniuses showed me a website that gave me step-by-step instructions on how to convert the files without downloading anything. I can't remember the website or how to do the converting. Does anyone know how to convert them without downloading anything, or does anyone know of a website that I can trust to download the software to convert music files? I appreciate any help I can get! Thanks

Unfortunately, this is not the way to do it without downloading something. But if you download this it will be a lot easier for you.
Download the latest version of Real Player and open the file that you want to convert through Real Player.
As the video is playing move your mouse over the video and you should see Convert at the bottom of the Real Player window.
Click on Convert and choose the MP3 option and convert.
It's pretty simple and the free version of Real Player is pretty handy.

  • How do I open a protected CCT file and convert it to mp3?

In Windows XP I am using a trial version of Adobe Director to try to extract .cct music files from the free game Quantum Legacy and eventually convert them to mp3s, but the files are "protected and cannot be opened"
I read this link and I made the .exe with the two scripts but it's not working.

I also found recover-cct.exe but that requires "an Xtra (Flash Movie...) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly."

You don't have the right to convert any "purchased" file. You can download content (purchases) that can play on a TV by using the Apple TV appliance.

  • I have the latest version of iTunes and want to convert  files to MP3 - how do I do that?

I have iTunes  11.0.4 which is upgraded from 11.0.12 and I have the same problem I had before the upgrade.  The choice to convert files to MP3 no longer exists per the instructions.  Does anyone who works for Apple know how to do this?  Why would Apple take this feature away?  It was really helpful.
I will have to start using the Amazon Cloud Player if iTunes can't get this resolved.  Help!!!  I love the old iTunes, but the new one ***** - does anyone know how to overcome this problem without 3rd party software?
    Thanks!

Set up your preferred import format under Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings, then right click on a selection of tracks to convert. If you want to permanently change the format, discarding the originals, while preserving ratings, play counts and playlist membership, then try my script ConvertFormat.

  • Can't convert MIDI to mp3 after update to iTunes 6.0.2

    Hi,
I had no troubles in the past converting Midi to mp3 in iTunes, but after updating to 6.0.2 I get an "unknown error" (-50) when trying to do so. This occurs on both machines, my iBook (OS 10.3.9) and my iMac (10.4.4). Can anyone help me?
    iMac G5 (10.4.4), iBook G4 (10.3.9) Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I have exactly the same experience. Similar setup to yours. This is obviously a bug. All we can do is report it to Apple Bug Reporting:

There may be a way to convert the files that doesn't use iTunes, so if anybody knows about it please tell us!

  • Can't convert AIFF to MP3

Can’t convert songs in iTunes. I have iTunes 7.02. I’ve followed the process as detailed in iTunes help as well as in a “missing manuals” book.
Here’s what I’ve done to try to change a song from AIFF file to MP3:
    1) In iTunes, chose iTunes > Preferences
    2) Chose “Advanced”
    3) Chose “Importing”
    4) Was told to use “Pop-Up” menu to select between: AAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless Encoder, MP3, or WAV;
    However, there is no “Pop-Up” menu........never has been;
    So,
I used the “Import Using” window and scrolled to select MP3
    5) Clicked “OK”
    6) In an iTunes Playlist, clicked once to highlight the song I wanted to convert from AIFF to MP3
    7) Went back to Preferences > Advanced to try and click “Convert Selection to MP3”............. But,
there is no such command in the Advanced, Importing window.
Presumably, after you do that (which I couldn’t) iTunes automatically converts selected song to the format I’ve chosen, plays it through while converting, resulting in a duplicate song, only in MP3 format. The original AIFF song is supposed to remain in the Library.
So why aren’t things happening they way iTunes Help and the book I’m using said they would?
Finally, after changing things in iTunes Preferences, how do I leave "Preferences": for example: should it always be left: Import Using: AIFF Encoder and Setting: Automatic?
My iMac specs should be listed below.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

    hi nemateoz,
    here are some clarifications;
"However, there is no “Pop-Up” menu."
    correct, its a drop-down list.
"Went back to Preferences > Advanced to try and click “Convert Selection to MP3"."
no, this option isn't located in the Advanced tab from the iTunes preferences but in the menu "Advanced" of iTunes (as Files, Edit, etc). This may be confusing thaugh.
"The original AIFF song is supposed to remain in the Library."
Correct; files will be duplicated. if you want to sort them easily, right click on any colum title of your library view and select "Genre". this will add a colum showing the file genre (aiff, mp3, etc) so you can sort them.
"So why aren’t things happening they way iTunes Help and the book I’m using said they would?"
i don'T know where you got your information. maybe you just got confused between advanced menu and advanced tab in preferences.
"Finally, after changing things in iTunes Preferences, how do I leave "Preferences": for example: should it always be left: Import Using: AIFF Encoder and Setting: Automatic?"
depends on what you would like. usually, people will convert aiff files to mp3 or m4a directly from CD; i.e. after inserting a CD, by just clicking "Import CD" button on the lower right corner will import/convert files based on your itunes preferences settings.

  • I don't see an option to convert caf to mp3, when I export... thoughts?

I open a CAF file in Quicktime Pro and I wanted to export it as an MP3.
I didn't see an export to MP3 option, so I exported the file to a WAV file then converted that to MP3.
Any ideas how I can export directly to MP3?
I may have missed when I was looking for this...
    Thanks..

I found a bunch of Apple Loops from an old iLife install that used the Core Audio Format.
Thanks for the heads up—I think I located them. Managed to find one 2 sec file online, but it was an old IMA 4:1 audio format. In either case, I can only convert the .caf files indirectly using built-in Mac OS X software as follows:
    1) Open the .caf file in either QT X or QT 7 Pro and export. (I prefer the QT 7 Pro "Sound to AIFF" option.)
    2) Open the exported file in iTunes and convert to MP3 for file management to compatible devices.
    3) Delete intermediate and/or sources file(s) if not wanted.

  • Convert aiff to mp3

How do I convert a mix which is 29 meg aiff to an mp3 fpr the web i use to be able through itunes but not any more

You can still do it through iTunes - go to Preferences->Advanced->Importing and select MP3 from the "Import Using" poplist. Then load the aiff into iTunes, select it, and select "Convert Selection to MP3" from the Advanced menu.

Not directly on the phone, no. You'll need third-party software, like this to extract it from your phone:

I just converted wav to mp3, but now I can't locate the files.

make sure you have the exact path written correctly. If you can, show what the filename is in itunes, and the filename when you are looking at the song files (i.e. through my comuter). Make sure these are the same, and that they are all usable itunes formats.

  • Can't convert MPEG to MP3

My music files are type MPEG. I want to convert them to MP3 format. I want to burn CD's as MP3 to allow a greater number of songs on the disk but allow them to be played on a car or home cd player. I try to convert to MP3 version but it just duplicates the file as another MPEG.

    Kenneth,
If iTunes shows the "Kind" as "MPEG audio file," then it is already an MP3.

    Hello jepperdee,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:

To convert a song's file format
    Open iTunes Preferences.
    Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
    Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
Click the General button, then click the Importing Settings… button in the lower section of the window.
From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.
Select one or more songs in your library, then from the File > Create New Version menu, choose one of the following (the menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences):

  • I used to be able to convert songs to mp3 files, but dont see how to do it now

There used to be a place at the top of one's iTune Library where you could convert files to mp3's.  I have changed computers and in the new iTunes download, I don't see it.  Is there not a way to do that now?  Not giving additional information about my Apple products because they are irrelevant to this question.  I am using a Windows 8 system

I guess you can search the internet for audio converter to convert songs to mp3. There are many audio conversion software in the market. You can search the keywords on Google for it easily. Most are able to do audio conversion between various audio file formats as well as to extract audio tracks from videos. Just for your reference. If your iTunes works, I guess it can meet your needs.
