Converting packed signed decimal to either double or string
I have S9(13)V99 -COMP-3 format which I want to convert to either double or a string. Does any one knows how I can do it. I have browsed the net but did not find what I am looking for.
If you have any code please post.
Thanks in advance,
You didn't say exactly where you have this data, but I GUESS you have it on some storage medium (written out by a COBOL program?).
What does this data really look like? (I suspect you are going to have to figure out the format and then bit-fiddle.)

How do I convert a £ sign iN SQL..?
hello.
I know ORACLE SQL doesn't mind a £ sign (converts it to a hash in TOAD) but as I'm using a
SELECT statement in a BI Publisher Data Template that is used to generate an XML file -
the XML generator doesn't like it..
So. Could somebody please tell me how I convert a £ sign if and when it appears in a record
that is returned in my query..?
here's the query (not that it matters!?!?!!)
SELECT DISTINCT
PB.CONCURRENT_PROGRAM_NAME PROGRAM_SHORT_NAME ,
TO_CHAR(R.REQUEST_DATE, 'dd-MON-yyyy') REQUEST_DATE, R.DESCRIPTION,
** this is the field ** PT.USER_CONCURRENT_PROGRAM_NAME PROGRAM_NAME ** this is the field **

FND_CONCURRENT_PROGRAMS_TL PT,
FND_CONCURRENT_PROGRAMS PB,
FND_USER U,
FND_PRINTER_STYLES_TL S,
FND_CONCURRENT_REQUESTS R
WHERE PB.APPLICATION_ID = R.PROGRAM_APPLICATION_ID
AND PB.CONCURRENT_PROGRAM_ID = R.CONCURRENT_PROGRAM_ID
AND PB.APPLICATION_ID = PT.APPLICATION_ID
AND PB.CONCURRENT_PROGRAM_ID = PT.CONCURRENT_PROGRAM_ID
AND PT.LANGUAGE = USERENV('LANG') AND U.USER_ID = R.REQUESTED_BY
AND S.PRINTER_STYLE_NAME(+) = R.PRINT_STYLE
AND S.LANGUAGE(+) = USERENV('LANG')
AND PT.USER_CONCURRENT_PROGRAM_NAME LIKE 'UofS%'
AND TRUNC(R.REQUEST_DATE) = '02-feb-10' Many thanks..

Edited by: JackyWhite on Mar 30, 2010 4:26 PMOk thanks for all your comments but I've found a way round it.
All I've done is make sure the xml file produced to be attached to the rtf file does not contain any fields with the £sign in it.
For all subsequent runs of the Conc Program where the £sign may be produced in the report PDF, Excel, etc. formats happily produce the character when generated.
Not a solution really, but hey, its working!

Convert Chinese signs to UTF-8
Hi there
I am trying to find a tool, or some code, who can help me covert Chinese signs to UTF-8 format.
The resen is that I am working on a project who has to develop a web-site containg both english and chinese text.
So first of all to test oure setup we need some chinese signs in UTF-8 format. Later on we will develop a work.flow that will convert those files/chinese signs.
But right now it will be a greate help to get som input on how to get this working.
Purhaps someone has made a smalle code who take a string af chinese signs as input and create a string of UTF-8 as output??
Regards
TolstrupTo read the file:Reader in = new InputStreamReader(
new FileInputStream(yourChineseFile), "yourChineseFile'sEncoding"));I don't know what encoding your file is in, but it's your file not mine.
To write the data in UTF-8:Writer out = new OutputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream(yourUTF8File), "UTF-8"); -
Problem Packing Signed JARs of more than 10 MB
Hi friends of Java,
there seems to be a size issue when packing signed JARs.
When I try to pack a signed JAR of about 5 MEGs (such as the jbossall_client.jar file) it works (i.e. jarsigner can verify the result),
but if i try doing it with a JAR of about 11 MEGs the jarsigner can't verify the packed (and unpacked again) file.
Example:
C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>dir temp\webstart\BasisWebClient.jar
06.03.2009 17:32 10.943.963 BasisWebClient.jar
C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>pack200 --repack temp\webstart\BasisWebClient.jar
C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>jarsigner -storepass xxxxxx -keystore resources\build\key\BasisWebKeystore temp\webstart\BasisWebClient.jar BasisWeb
C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>jarsigner -verify temp\webstart\BasisWebClient.jar
jar verified.
C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>pack200 temp\webstart\BasisWebClient.jar.pack.gz temp\webstart\BasisWebClient.jar
C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>unpack200 temp\webstart\BasisWebClient.jar.pack.gz test.jar
C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>jarsigner -verify test.jar
jarsigner: java.lang.SecurityException: SHA1 digest error for basisweb/vg/presenter/SchluesselBezeichnungDialogPresenter.class
The same with a smaller file:
C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>dir temp\webstart\jbossall-client.jar
31.08.2007 07:31 4.895.807 jbossall-client.jar

C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>jarsigner -verify temp\webstart\jbossall-client.jar
jar verified.
C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>pack200 temp\webstart\jbossall-client.jar.pack.gz temp\webstart\jbossall-client.jar
C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>unpack200 temp\webstart\jbossall-client.jar.pack.gz test.jar
C:\p\u\ccm_wa\basis_web\santafu~tnagel\santafu>jarsigner -verify test.jar
jar verified.
It also works when I split the original JAR in multiple parts. Any ideas?
Used Java Version:
java version "1.6.0_12"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_12-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.2-b01, mixed mode, sharing)
OS: Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP2
PC: Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 160 GB HD
Regards from Germany,
Thomas NagelHello Bryan,
I dont have a solution yet. Currently we use the jars uncompressed. Sad, but that works.
For the future, we are not really sure wether we can stick with JWS, as the signed JNLP-file-issue might make us even more trouble.
I've done some error search. Look at the following.
Try for your own with some different sized jar's, and maybe post the results (definitely if they all pass):

I'm having a problem in getting my double to convert to a string, here's my code so far.
public void calculatePayments()
double paymentAmount;
double monthlyInterestRate = (Double.parseDouble(interestBox.getText())/12)/100;
double amountOfLoan = Double.parseDouble(balanceBox.getText());
double numberOfPayments = Double.parseDouble(yearsBox.getText()) * 12;
paymentAmount = (amountOfLoan * monthlyInterestRate) / (1 - Math.pow(1/(1 + monthlyInterestRate),numberOfPayments));
Double.toString(paymentAmount);
tableBox.append(paymentAmount);
And here's the error message I get:
ProgramInterface.java:134: append(java.lang.String) in javax.swing.JTextArea cannot be applied to (double)
tableBox.append(paymentAmount);
As always, help is appreciated.This line returns a String but has no affect on paymentAmount.
Double.toString(paymentAmount);To covert the double to String you can save the return in a variable
String s = Double.toString(paymentAmount);
tableBox.append(s);or combine them
tableBox.append(Double.toString(paymentAmount)); -
I am looking for a way to convert double to String.
I think that I have to use wrapper like Double class and use toString(double d), but I am not sure how to do it.
Since toString() is static method, I do not have to have an instance of the Double class, so I was wondering what's the correct way to do it.
I need something like this:
String MyString = new String (String1.concat ( My_doubleNumber.Double.toString() ) );
Any Suggestions?
Thanks!!!WOW thanks a lot. These are definately better than what I thought of doing originally.
In case I need to use the wrapper class somewhere else, I am just wondering what would be a proper use of Double and String? -
Converting Double to String without exponent
Hi all,
I am reading some values from Excelsheet using apache POI library. I have large numbers that need to stored into database as string and not numbers. hence, while reading the excelsheet values, i convert these number.. and the are received as double. While converting double into string I noticed that some values are represented in exponential form.. I would like to avoid this and have pure number values in the form of string,,..
Can anybody tell me how to do it?
Thanks in advance,

Converting character to decimal format
hi
i am working on a development where the selection screen has date and time as select options.
and based on the input i have to concatenate date and time into the format- DD.MM.YYY HH.MM.SS
there is a value in the table that has a field containing the above value and i have to fetch the data based on this input.
Now the problem is the field in the table is of format DECIMAL of 16 length.
i want to know how can i pass this value to the select statement.

Convert hex to Decimal and keep leading zeros..
Hi,
I hope you can help?
How to convert hex to Decimal and keep leading zeros
I read 002C, hex, and I want to convert it to 0044 decimal.
sscanf (MyNum, "%4x", &DecNum); will only give me 44.
It have been working up till I started to get leading zeros.
We will always have a 4 digit hex input in a range
We must have the leading 00 in this case.
How is this best done?
Thanks for the help
Simon
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hi,
I don't really understand your problem. Is this stuff what you need ?
int main (int argc, char *argv[])
const char MyNum[] = "002C";
int DecNum;
sscanf (MyNum, "%4x", &DecNum);
printf ("%04d", DecNum);
getchar ();
return 0;
"0044" appears on standard output when printf function executes... -

Thanks for the posting Vinny (and Stu). I did figure it out. The
problem I initially had was that I had a 2-D array going into a for
loop. I can break the array into 1-D arrays and then change this into
an array into a string. No problems.
Thanks!

Double.parseDouble(String) - problems when string is in scientific notation
Hello guys,
I'm doing some numerical calculations and I wonder whether it is possible for Double.parseDouble(String) to parse string in the scientific notation i.e. 1.0824234234E-10. Is it the notation itself causing the exception : NumberFormatException or the number is just too big/small and double can't hold it ?
If it's just the notation how can I fix it ?
Regardsi'm not quite sure whether double odoes not allow it.
perhaps consider the api Double.valueOf() and the testing code provided; reproduced below:To avoid calling this method on a invalid string and having a NumberFormatException be thrown, the regular expression below can be used to screen the input string:
final String Digits = "(\\p{Digit}+)";
final String HexDigits = "(\\p{XDigit}+)";
// an exponent is 'e' or 'E' followed by an optionally
// signed decimal integer.
final String Exp = "[eE][+-]?"+Digits;
final String fpRegex =
("[\\x00-\\x20]*"+ // Optional leading "whitespace"
"[+-]?(" + // Optional sign character
"NaN|" + // "NaN" string
"Infinity|" + // "Infinity" string
// A decimal floating-point string representing a finite positive
// number without a leading sign has at most five basic pieces:
// Digits . Digits ExponentPart FloatTypeSuffix
// Since this method allows integer-only strings as input
// in addition to strings of floating-point literals, the
// two sub-patterns below are simplifications of the grammar
// productions from the Java Language Specification, 2nd
// edition, section 3.10.2.
// Digits ._opt Digits_opt ExponentPart_opt FloatTypeSuffix_opt
"((("+Digits+"(\\.)?("+Digits+"?)("+Exp+")?)|"+

")[pP][+-]?" + Digits + "))" +
"[fFdD]?))" +
"[\\x00-\\x20]*");// Optional trailing "whitespace"
if (Pattern.matches(fpRegex, myString))

Double.parseDouble(String) : Problem to parse large String
Hello,
I need to convert A String to a Double in my application without rounding of digits.
I have used the Double.parseDouble(String) method.
The maximum string length can be 17 including dot(.)
So if my String is (of length 17)
Eg.
S= 9999999999.999999 then I am getting the double value as
d= 9999999999.999998(compare the last digit)
If s = 9999999999.111111 then d = 9999999999.111110
If s = 9999999999.555555 then d = 9999999999.555555 (result that I want)
If s = 9999999999.666666 then d = 9999999999.666666 (result that I want)
If s = 9999999999.777777 then d = 9999999999.777777 (result that I want)
If s = 9999999999.888888 then d = 9999999999.888887
If s = 9999999999.999999 then d = 9999999999.999998
If s = 9123456789.123456 then d = 9123456789.123456
But string length up to 16 is giving me the accurate result
So any body can explain me that why it is happening? And how can i get the accurate result.
Thanks in advanced.Hi,
Thank You for your suggestion. By which i can store
the big double number in Data base , but at some
point i require to parse a double value from a Double
reference.In that case if the Decimal value length
=> 16 then it the last digit changes or rounds.
coverting 9999999999.999999 Decimal value to double
value. It gives me 9999999999.999998 and
9999999999.9999999 gives me the 10000000000.0000000.
but the Double value 999999999.999999 is ok
and 999999999.99999999 rounds.Err, is there a follow up question in there? -
What is the best way of converting everything in a result set into a string
hello folks
What do you think is the best way of converting everything in a resultset into a string???
At the moment I'm using
rs.getString(i);
everywhere (no matter if the underlying datatype is a date or whatever..) it converts automatically evertything expect NULL into a valid string.
Are there better (simple to use..) ways?I don't see a big switch construct. How about trying the following:
Call this method from your original method by passing the resultset obtained.
public String[] convert(ResultSet rs) {
int col = ((ResultSetMetaData) rs.getMetaData()).getColumnCount();
String[] record = new String[col];
int i=0;
while(rs.next()) {
if(rs.wasNull()) record[i] = new String();
else record[i] = rs.getString(i);
i++;
return record;

like size as a string and then make the string size a doubleThink he means blank.
Check the Wrapper classes (Double, Integer) in the api.
parseInt() parseDouble() both take a string and return a primitive.
String s = null;
if(s == null) should do the trick!
