          CookieName set? If not, wouldn't the NES plug-in get confused, assuming the same

          I believe WL either creates a different session cookie for each app. This is
          easy by adding a path to the cookie to restrict its "view".
          However, that doesn't stop you from having a shared cookie.

Criteria for dividing an application between multiple WARs

What criteria are generally used when deciding on the division of a large application between several WAR files?
I'd imagine that an eBay wouldn't put their entire web application into a single WAR. But I am unsure of what they would consider when deciding how they would split up their application.
As each WAR file has its own context under the web server (is this correct?), I have the feeling from looking at a few tutorials (and seeing what's in the address bar) that it's to be split up by function (e.g. contexts paths for /register, /checkout, etc)
Though the above doesn't seem like I'm interpreting their intentions or this concept correctly. If somebody could please help to explain the guidelines behind such a decision, that would be highly appreciated.

Is it correct to assume the only way to do this is to set up a persistence layer to hold basic session/user information that is accessible from all WARs and then use the common JSESSIONID that they all share (since they are under the same domain) as the Primary Key?It´s not the only way, but one of the ways, yes.

Multiple war file in single ear in ATG10.1.1 with JBoss

Hi All,
Is it possible to have multiple war files in single ear in ATG? I tried to deploy one but got some errors when. I tried this so that I can have a new site without altering existing crs.
I have an ATG10.1.1 instance (Windows 7, JBoss-eap-5.1, Oracle 11gR2) with crs installed and running.
I am not sure whether its a good practice or not. Please correct me if I am going wrong
Here is the steps that I have done.
1. Created new war file in CommerceReferenceStore (Copied existing store.war and renamed it to sample.war)

Hi,
This is not an issue caused by having multiple wars inside same ear.
This looks like a runtime exception when trying to render the jsp (The jsp is compiled to a sevlet and the inside the service method of the servlet you are getting this exception). Double check you jsp for the possible cause of this exception.

App with multiple WAR files

We have a customer self-service web site, freshly re-implemented using facelets in a WAR file. It works fine. We are just now starting to re-implement a second significant component from the previous generation. This component is pretty complicated, so we would like to maintain and deploy it individually in its own WAR. However, we would like this component to blend smoothly in the primary application. Ideally, the main app would create a borderless window in which this component would live, but everything inside that window would be controlled by the second WAR file. Both WAR files run on the same web server, and if it helps, can run in the same session.
In previous times, we might have done this with an iframe to contain the second application. But I'm well aware of the downsides of iframes and that they are strongly discouraged in new apps, What is the current recommended approach for blending multiple WAR files into what appears to be a single application to the end user? Portlets? Can I easily make a simple facelets application (our primary app) into a portlet container without making it into a full scale portal? All the portlet examples I find show the portlet in a window that the user can minimize or maximize. Can our primary app hide those window controls so that the contents of the second WAR appear to be part of the primary application?

I wouldn't use iframes to merge applications from different hosts, but when the sub-applications are part of one larger application that you have under your own control, then why not?
It is fine to follow current trends, but only if it is intelligent to do so.

Session not shared between multiple wars, with no cookies

I posted an earlier query on multiple wars in the same application.
Actually session is maintained and getting shared on the server when
browser supports cookies.
When Browser does not support cookies i have the following problem,
a) Without cookies URL's(href tags) work fine because they are bieng
rewritten.
b) The first form i call always has hidden tags with session id value
and it works fine
c) But in all susequent forms there is no hidden session id.(My forms
are all JSP pages.).
My questiona are
1) under what situations does the server add session id hidden tags in
html form.
2)And how do I get them created automatically when browser does not
support cookies.
3) And why are the hidden tags being set for the first request. (I read
in previous posts that is because the server does not know if browser
supports cookies for first time) How does it know the second time. What
html header gives this info.

Obviously you are having a problem with this, but based on the information
you are providing I don't have any insight on why yet. Works for me. Try
opening a support ticket and/or posting some more information.

The second request it knows that cookies are supported because the browser
successfully has returned the cookie it sent the first time.

How to share session object between multiple WAR's

I am Using servlet 2.3 & websphere 5.1 application server. I am using multiple war applications in my ear and i am able to share context-attributes & session attributes between wars. Can any one guide me how i can share session object?
I am getting session -time out in first war even though i am doing some operation's in second war. I want to maintian the same session, even in my second war which was created in my first war.

Navigation Between multiple SWF files

ok so I'm still working on this project and it got literally huge... at least huge enough to consume all of my 3 GB RAM memory and crash my Adobe Flash CS4. Anyway, I decided to put the site on several swf's but the problem is that I've never done that before so I have no idea how to navigate between them.
Basically I have a main swf file, inside it there's an image (let's say its instance name is "projects_btn") that should take me to "Projects.swf", and I want to click on an "x" sign (its instance name is "xSign_btn") inside Projects.swf that would take me back to the main swf file "Bnaider2.swf".
Any suggestions? thanks in advance...

2. the projects section of my site is divided into four swf's. First "project.swf" should load when I click on projectImg2 inside Bnaider.swf which is working fine so far (but doesn't unload once I click the xSign). Then I want "project2.swf" to load/run once I click on a button instantiated as "nextSwf" inside "project.swf". And on project2.swf as well, there's an xSign that once clicked it should take me back to Bnaider.swf... and the same thing with the other two swf's. So... I donno, this is really getting too complicated for me, but if anyone could help I would really appreciate it cuz the whole project is due this Saturday and I've still got a few more things to work on as well... The problem is that web applications do not share the same session by
default. If you set the cookie name to be the same for both web
applications, you should be able to pass the data in the HttpSession...

Session between WAR files

hello,
I am asking a question, however I still did not try it out (just being onest).
Would a session variable work between two WAR files?
For-example: Imagine I have WAR file A, that have a link to page WAR file B. Will the page in WAR file B have access to the session variables set by WAR file A?
As I maybe said more then once. I want to develop a website in a modularized way. I want to have the basic structure of the website in one WAR file, and then have the other sections to be loaded inside an other WAR file.
I realized that most of the websites on the internet just make a clear cut of reporoducing the common parts in the other WAR files. However this is something I would like to avoid, since I feel it is wrong. However is this the only way how this can be done?
I have searched a lot on the internet, but can not find a lot of examples! :(

No, I don't think you'll find sessions being shared between different webapps.
The assumption tends to be that webapps are developed independantly, and might have conflicting session attribute keys. Details of session behaviour are in the web.xml file associated with each app, they can have different expiry times etc..
I've shared data between webapps using my own cookies and common classes rather than using session.

Behaviour differences between war file and exploded directory

Hi,
I'm baffled by differences in how my web app behaves when deploy in a war file and when deployed in exploded directory.
Firstly when I deploy in exploded directory format (using wldeploy in ant) - the jsps do not precompile. However, when I deploy the war file - again using ant and wldeploy - precompile works just fine - and general performance seems better.
Secondly - the webapp has a pdf file - which is used as a template to dynamically produce a document. When deployed
in exploded format - the webapp works fine and is able to read the pdf. However, when I deploy in war file, the pdf cannot be read.
Surely the behaviour should be the same whether we deploy as a war or exploded.

Some behaviors will be different between a WAR file deployment and an exploded WAR deployment.
With respect to JSP precompile, you just say "they do not precompile", so I can't tell anything about that.
When you read files from an exploded WAR, you can reference them in two ways: as a resource, or as an absolute file path. When you read files from a WAR file, you can only read files as a resource, and not as an absolute file path. You're not giving any information about how you're reading the file, so I can't tell about that either.
You'd have to provide more detail to get better answers.

Multiple DomainSite files no longer open after Lion upgrade

I have at least 6 separate Domain.Sites.2 files that use for domains that I maintain using iWeb. Since I upgraded to Lion last week, I've discovered that no matter which DomainSite file I've tried to open, it continues to open the last site that I worked on before my system upgrade.
Have I lost the ability to use those files?
I'm in big trouble if there's not a fix for this! Big trouble!!

Here's another solution to your issue:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

Single War file VS Separating WAR files suggestions

We have big a debate whether to go with a single WAR file (JEE application) VS creating multiple WAR files.
Here is the back ground: This is an IVR application.
There are 4 types of callers Member, Provider, Dental, Vision. For each of them there is only JSP which will take care of all required Dialogues(Menus). At the end of the any call we collect MemberID regardless of the caller.
There are 4 separate phone linse for the above 4 types of callers. However any caller can call into any of the lines. For example according to business requirements, Provider can call into Memebr line and hence Member(app) should be able to handle the logic. In other words Memebr & Provider are tied together.
Arugents:
I : I say create one single JEE project and have separate JSPs for the above 4 catagories so that teh application can share lot of common modules such as Logging, some Libs, configuraiton files, some JSFs, Some JSPs(We have some common JSPs that needed to be shared by 4 types of callers).
Otherside argument: Each of the 4 call types should be created as a seperate WAR files so that change of one WAR does not affect the other.
Even though that seems to be right given the nature of the business requirements change in one definitely affects other hence regression testing is needed on all of them anyway. In that case what benefits are we trying to reap except the extra maintainence.
I would like some of your expert's opionions and thoughts on these approaches (Construction, vesioning, Maintenance perspective). I appreciate your inputs.

This issue comes up repeatably. It's a real bug.
          I believe this problem was fixed in a 5.1 service pack, but I'm trying to
          find out the exact disposition of the issue. Noone seems to be complaining
          about this under 6.x, so a fix seems to have been made, the only question is
          whether or not it got back-ported to a 5.1 service pack.
