Create a Color Picker

Hi!
I want to use a color picker in my aplication.When the user
clicks on a button a color picker must be displayed and when user
selects the color from that picker i should get the CSS based
colors code or Hex code so that i can render them in my HTML page.
Please help me in this regard.
- Thanks

As it turns out, I just finished writing a few color picker
dialog
programs. I made them work pretty much the same way that the
standard
color pickers work in Director. They are meant to be used as
MIAWs, so
they are not shockwave safe by default, but you are free to
look at the
code and recreate them as a part of your movie so it will be
available
in shockwave.
You can download them from:

  • How do I create this color-picker-HSB gradient?

    What seemed trivial at first glance has turned out as quite a challange!
    I would like to create a special kind of black/white/alpha gradient to mimic the HSB color picker in Photoshop:
    Saturation
    0 100
    +--------------+ 100
    |white.....pure hue|
    |.....................| B
    |.....................| r
    |.....................| i
    |.....................| g
    |.....................| h
    |.....................| t
    |.....................| n
    |.....................| e
    |.....................| s
    |.....................| s
    |.....................|
    |.....black......| 0
    +--------------+
    I've tried numerous ways of blending screen/multiply, setting gradient smoothing to 0-100%, using layer masks, etc, etc - but when I compare my composite with a screenshot of the Photoshop color picker - I'm still not even close! :-(
    Is the gradients non-linear? Is gamma involved?
    I downloaded a low-res png-24 of this unique gradient from the internet, but would like to make a hi-res version (and understand how it works!).
    Additionally, my layer mask isn't black white but black and pink! I can't wrap my head around that color management thing...
    Best,
    Robert

    Photoshop has not given us a tool to produce gradients in HSB (only RGB). In order to get the color picker slices it does produce, Photoshop itself is obviously able to create HSB gradients.

  • How can I create a Tree with Color Picker icons?

    I'm a newbie to Flex. I want to create a tree which has color
    picker icons.
    As an analogy for the Mac users out there, I envision a
    control like the Calendars section in iCal, where you can specify
    the color for each individual node. These colors are then used in
    other parts of the application.
    The Flex 3 documentation specifies four methods for setting
    node icons on a Tree control, none of which seems to suit my needs:
    -The folderOpenIcon, folderClosedIcon, and defaultLeafIcon
    properties
    -Data provider node icon fields
    -The setItemIcon() method
    -The iconFunction property
    In other words, I want to "setItemIcon" to an mx:ColorPicker,
    if that makes any sense.
    Is there a standard way of doing this? If not, how can I go
    about implementing such a control? Thanks in advance!

    well, Network UI should be used.

  • To Show/Display Color Picker Panel to user for creating Swatch- in SCRITPING

    Hi All
    I'm in need to Show/Display "Color Picker Panel" in InDesign, to the user to select their desire color to create a swatch  through SCRIPTING. Can anyone help me in this.

    I wrote a similar ColorPicker Script sample in the past, too.
    create document
    create rectangle object
    show ColorPicker
    choose color with ColorPicker
    create RGB color swatch

  • How to create a button to launch a color picker

    I have a client how does not like the color picker component.
    Currently I'm trying with no luck to get a button to launch the
    selector portion of the color picker. I tried the following code on
    the buttons on click method -
    Any idea on how I would do this?
    Thanks,
    Jack

    This works.
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="
    http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
    <mx:ColorPicker id="clr"/>
    <mx:Button label="Open Color Picker"
    click="clr.open()"/>
    </mx:Application>
    In your case you did not add the CP to the display list:
    private function launchCP(): void {
    var cp:ColorPicker = new ColorPicker();
    cp.addChild(cp);
    cp.open();
    You are better off creating CP adding it to stage, and then
    setting visible and include in layout to false, then set them to
    true and call open when button is clicked.

  • Gradient Color Picker

    Dear Community,
    i have a Problem with Illustrator CS6. I've attached an image below.
    I have an object with gradient fill and i've selected the first color stop.
    In previous Versions of AI i could the pick any color with color Picker while holding the shift-key.
    In CS6 this changes the color only in the Gradient Panel but not the Object itself:
    I have to admit that i'm glad not to be a creative cloud user so i'm able to switch between Ai cs 5.1 and 6
    because both have some features missing in the other version.
    My best,
    Herr K. aus Berlin

    Re: Gradient Color Picker
    created by Mike Gondek
    This still works for me in CS6 mac, but more importantly try not to use Shift eyedropper. The topic has been discussed here many times. Shift eyedropper is not accurate and samples the screen values, not the actual color.
    Try using global swatches more often. Try this instead
    select a gradient stop
    Alt click on a swatch
    If the swatch is set to global, you can easily change/adjust/merge colors later with one command on a global document level.
    Thanks for the advice. I never had problems with shift-click picker i sample colors from other objects and even if they have Spot colors assigned it works, at least in CS5. I've tried in CS6 it's just not working. I've been told that there has been many discussions and i've read some. I'll stick to CS5. I'm very disapointed with adobe. This is a known bug it has been reworked on Mac Versions but not on PC.

  • PS CS6: stroke color picker preview in real time not working

    re: NEW color picker stroke color not updating in real time (previewing).
    Is it me or has the stroke color preview been removed in CS6 or is there a setting that needs to be changed to enable it?
    The problem: When I create a shape layer, press enter and then chose a stroke color from the color picker, I select a color but it doesnt update the stroke color until I press enter. I'm sure it used to change in real time as you clicked on the color picker panel before accepting it.
    Any sugestions or ideas as to whats going on or am I going mad?
    Further update: This is when creating a shape but using the new stroke feature in the properties bar at the top (the one which gives you the new fancy options like having a dashed, transparent or gradiented stroke) and not the traditional method of adding it as an effect. This still shows a real time update, but the new method doesnt.

    If thats working so the color changes in real time for you, then unfortunatley I've got a problem with my version.
    Using Win7 CS6 extended, and following your instructions it works for me.
    Border changes withn I click on color pallet with color picker.
    Odd, same version/ O.S. here, thanks for that though Curt Y. Are you sure you're not clicking on the preset colours and actually using the color picker dialogue box.
    I've been in a bit of a rush here at the office and appologise for not being clearer and posting a screencap earlier.
    To clarify, its the Cyan dialogue box not the orange box I'm talking about  (nice choice of colours I know ). The top right icon in the organge box with the colours in is how you get to it.

  • Color picker transfer to another mac

    Somehow, I've lost most of the colors (in the little squares) in the Color Picker on my MacBook Pro.
    I recall reading an articl a couple of years ago on how to copy the color picker (with all the colors I've created) from one Mac to another, but I can't find the article and I don't rcall how to make the move.
    Does anyone know how to do this...and what are the details?
    Thanks

    An iPhone can be synced or manually managed with an iTunes library on any supported computer, but iTunes content can be transferred to an iPhone from one computer at a time only, and the same for photos transferred to an iPhone. When transferring iTunes content and/or photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.
    You can transfer your iTunes library from one computer to another - the entire iTunes named folder located in your Music folder.

  • Color Picker/ Color Chooser Questions

    Sometimes when a pick a color from the screen using the Color Picker panel, it shows a grey triangle in the top right hand corner. What does this mean?
    Also, if I have an InDesign document open, create a box and fill it using the Adobe Color Picker make a note of the CMYK and RGB values, then switch to mail, and use the Color Picker panel in Mail to pick the color from my InDesign document, the values are different. Why?

    MP,
    It seems that  the issue is caused by a corrupt folder called en_US or similar (depending on language) within the Adobe Illustrator 18 Settings folder, see post #7 by Jules in this thread,
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1595766
    so the solution should be to move or rename that folder (or the whole Adobe Illustrator 18 Settings folder).
    You can find the folder in Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed.
    The folder can also be found through this:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/preference-file-location-illustrator.html
    As a temporary roundabout way, you can select the lower rectangle to the right of the rainbow and DoubleClick to apply that to change the top rectangle and the values: the lower colour is the right one.

  • In Apple Color Picker, need to sort custom list

    I just created a custom color list in Apple's Color Picker which is not sorted and I want it to be.
    FYI: the Apple Color Picker opens in many applications for choosing what color something should be. For example, in TextEdit use menu Format > Font > Show Colors.
    On the Color Picker, the 3rd tab by default has pre-defined lists of colors, including "Apple", "Developer", and "Web Safe Colors". I created a custom color list, which is out of order alphabetically (or any other way). I would like to sort that list alphabetically (or by color, I guess) without deleting and recreating every color. Can this be done?

    Hi, whytwolf.
    I thought your question was interesting, so I spent some time experimenting.
    The Colors Palette doesn't permit re-ordering the items in the list, such as by dragging or Command-dragging them.
    Unfortunately, the color list one creates using the Colors Palette — e.g. the file colorlistname.clr in your Home > Library > Colors directory — is an NSDictionary object. It's saved in binary format and it appears virtually impossible to edit reliably with a text editor. These objects are usually created and read using Cocoa programming. I know of no editor specifically designed to permit one to change these objects directly, and a variety of Web searches for such an editor failed to find a tool.
    It appears there was once a utility called Color List Editor that seemed tailor-made for your purpose, but it appears to have vanished without a trace. While the VersionTracker listing remains, all of the links to the download are broken. I was able to track down the author's Web site but the download isn't available there. I've e-mailed him in case it's still available, though it may not work with Tiger given its age. If I hear back anything from the author, I'll let you know.
    What I recommend you do is recreate the list, first focusing on the order of items by name you want to include in such. Then, once that's sorted, assign the swatches. You should probably do a trial run on paper or using a spreadsheet to get the names and sequence correct before you undertake the actual list-creation process again using the Color Palette. Then work carefully, since correcting errors in mid-list means deleting the error and all entries thereafter. Most tedious!
    It might also be worthwhile to submit a Mac OS X Feedback, suggesting Apple enhance the Color Palette so that one can reorder colors by dragging them in the list, at least for color lists the user has created, i.e. those on which the user has Access permissions of Read & Write.
    Good luck!

  • Color picker component

    Hi!
    Is there any color picker component out there ? I'd like to make something similar to the color picker buttons in the paintshop pro or photoshop toolbars, where you can see the current background and foreground colors to be used. Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks

    So, what, you click on the button and then it pops up a window with a palette of colours, requiring you to select one? Why not use a JButton with an icon? put the relevant code (re. the JColorChooser and dealing with colour choice by the user) in the actionPerformed method of an ActionListener you add to the button.
    If you're talking about the single-colour-filled colour buttons like in Paint -- you know, the ones you click and then the colour you're painting with gets changed to that colour -- then why not create a subclass of JButton, called ColourButton perhaps (surprise!), something like this:
    import javax.swing.JButton;
    import java.awt.Color;
    import java.awt.Dimension;
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    public class ColourButton extends JButton
        private Color colour;
        public ColourButton (Color colour)
            super ();
            this.colour = colour;
            setBackground (colour);
            setOpaque (true);
            setPreferredSize (new Dimension (30, 30));
        public void paintComponent (Graphics g)
            super.paintComponent (g);
            //Maybe manage the filling of the button's surface area with 'colour' somehow
            //      What I've done in the constructor may be enough, though.
            //Perhaps use a border as well.
    //Class to test...
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class TestColourButtons extends JFrame
        public TestColourButtons ()
            super ("Colour Bar");
            JPanel pane = new JPanel ();
            pane.setLayout (new GridLayout (1, 0));
            pane.add (new ColourButton (Color.BLACK));
            pane.add (new ColourButton (Color.RED));
            pane.add (new ColourButton (Color.YELLOW));
            pane.add (new ColourButton (Color.CYAN));
            pane.add (new ColourButton (Color.BLUE));
            pane.add (new ColourButton (Color.WHITE));
            getContentPane ().add (pane);
            pack ();
            setDefaultCloseOperation (JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            setLocationRelativeTo (null);
            setVisible (true);
        public static void main (String[] args)
            new TestColourButtons ();
    }

  • Color picker show only gamut colors

    hello all,
    in photshop, you can go to View -> Show Gamut Warning and then in the color picker the colors out of gamut will be greyed out.
    is there any similar setting in illustrator too?
    thanks for answers.

    Illustrator is a little different the color picker show the out of gamit warning however if I am corret since illustrator a little different and you really canot select an out of gamit color since it will converted to the cmyk environment for instance or the rgb environment you are creating your document, which is probably the reason that some colors coming from Photoshop do nt always match 100%.
    For instance placing a rgb photo in Illustrator converts it to rgb slecting a color out of gamit will also give a cmyk value to it in the picker it is the cmyk value that will be used and there for will not be out of gamit turning on overprint preview will show what the color really looks like if you have a properly calibrated monitor.
    The color you are  seecing might be out of gamit but what you have in Illustrator will print properly no matter how close it appears on the screen.
    Let me Illuustrate this
    The color picker, notice the cmyk values and the out of gamit warning
    The color panel shows it as cmyk values and as long as it is translated as percentages of cmyk inks then it is not out of gamit.
    So the issue is mute in Illustrator

  • Photoshop color field not working in color picker

    My color field is not working properly in my color picker. How do you fix this?
    WRONG (what my color picking is doing) :
    CORRECT (how it should work) :

    The catchall first step in correction is to reset the tool which, in this case, is the Eyedropper.
    With the Eyedropper chosen, right click here:
    If that doesn't solve the problem, a logical next step would be to reset your Preferences.
    To reset Preferences:
    If Photoshop is already open on your screen, close it (Quit). Then hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and start Photoshop.
    A dialog box will pop up asking if you want to delete the existing Preferences file (the "Settings"). Click Yes in the dialog box. The existing Preferences file will be scrapped and a new one will be created.

  • Color Picker has the Button skin

    Hey guys,
    I'm using some Color Pickers in my application. I also use mx buttons in some places so I've created a css style for these which includes some bitmap
    graphics as well. The problem is that the color picker has the skin of my mx button even though I didnt define a style for it anywhere.
    It looks weird so I would definetely prefer the default skin.
    Am I missing something here?

    and by the way, the css for the mx button is this
    mx|Button
    disabled: Embed(source="hpSkins/ButtonSkins/MXButton/Button_disabled.png");
    downSkin: Embed(source="hpSkins/ButtonSkins/MXButton/Button_downSkin.png");
    overSkin: Embed(source="hpSkins/ButtonSkins/MXButton/Button_overSkin.png");
    upSkin: Embed(source="hpSkins/ButtonSkins/MXButton/Button_upSkin.png");
    fontFamily: svenings;
    color: #FFFFFF;
    textRollOverColor: #FFFFFF;
    textSelectedColor: #FFFFFF;
    fontWeight: normal;
    fontLookup: embeddedCFF;

  • Color picker crash Windows DW 5.5

    Hi,
    Dreamweaver CS 5.5 on Windows 7, 64-bit is crashing when I use the System Color Picker. If I choose from the web safe palette, it's fine, but when I click on the color wheel to expand the tool, it freezes every time. I have to restart the program.
    I have uninstalled and re-installed twice. I have deleted my configuration files and site def files. I have no extensions installed and I have installed all udpates.
    I know there's an issue with the color picker on the Mac, but this is on Windows, not on a Mac.
    Any ideas for further troubleshooting?
    Thanks,
    Julie

    Thanks for your reply and great questions.
    I just tried it and it crashes in Design view and Code view when using the CSS Styles panel or the Property Inspector.
    In Code View, when it pops up as part of the autocomplete process when coding, I am able to click on the color wheel without it crashing, choose a color, and choose okay. The dialog box closes, the program does not crash but...the hex code is not added to the code.
    When I replicate this same step in Code View, but choose from the web safe palette, it works fine--doesn't crash and it inserts the hex code correctly. I am also able to successfully use the web safe palette from the styles panel and PI.
    I also discovered the Format > Color command from the  top menu which I've never used in my 12 years of using Dreamweaver. I was able to successfully choose a color and create a CSS rule from that command. (But that's kind of a strange workflow...)
    Thanks,
    Julie
