    ThanksDon't. Create an RTF document with a .doc extension.
    How to create a RTF? It depends on what you want to do with it. If have a fixed template that you just want to squish data into then I would spit out an XML file with said data then XSLT to a XSL:FO¹ and use [Apache FOP|http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/].
    1) Or skip the XML/XSLT step and spit out XSL:FO.

  • Opening '.doc' files created by Appleworks

    Hi,I couldn't find any discussion of this so am posting a question.
    Pages 2.0 opens all our normal Appleworks word processor (cwk?) files OK, and also opens "real" ".doc" files created by Word (from others, we don't have Word).
    Pages won't open Word type ".doc" files saved from Appleworks, and gives a message that it is an incorrect file type. If I use "get info" to remove the .doc extension from the name, Pages will open the renamed file. So pages appears to be okay opening Appleworks saved .doc files only if I remove the .doc from the name.
    Kind of hard to do with several hundred files. Any suggestions?
    G42x800, G4Cube, Etc. Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    I don't know what the problem is exactly. When I save a document as Word (6 or 98) in AW, no .doc extension is added to the file name. But here is a solution to remove the extension, if that helps:
    Create a workflow in Automator. I use Automator on a german OS, I have tried to translate the commands, but you might have to search for the corresponding actions with a similar name.
    - Add the "Get Folder Content" action
    - Add the "Rename" Finder action
    - Select "Replace text" and replace ".doc" with nothing or with "AW doc"
    Then save the action as a folder plugin and attach it to a "Convert AW docs" folder.
    Any file dropped into the folder will be renamed according to your rules.

  • How to create pdf from word doc file

    HI
    I have a word doc file. (not docx). I have adobe 8 pro. I wrote a word script to create the file using the distiller. The fonts in the pdf file it makes look wacky. That script looks liek this:
    * create archive pdf file
    lfilename = "t:\cardeals\pdf\pdf_archive\" + PADL(alltrim(STR(month(date()))),2,"0") + PADL(alltrim(STR(DAY(DATE()))),2,"0") + SUBSTR(ALLTRIM(STR(YEAR(DATE()))),3,2) + "1.pdf"
    oWord = createOBJECT("Word.Application")
    oWord.DisplayAlerts = .f.
    oWord.documents.open('t:\cardeals\cardeals.doc')
    oword.ActivePrinter = "\\CSSSERVERONE\Overflow"
    oword.application.printout(,,,,,,,4,,,,,,,,,,,)
    oWord.PrintOut(.F.,.F.,,"c:\output.ps",,,,,,.F.)
    oPDF = CREATEOBJECT ( "PDFDistiller.PDFDistiller.1" )
    oPDF.FileToPDF("c:\output.ps", "&lfilename.", "High Quality" )
    oWord.application.quit
    release oword
    I also wrote a script to attempt to print it from the Adobe printer. It seems to work, but when I go to open the created pdf file it I get the following message:
    Acrobat could not open mypdf.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged.
    The code was this:
      Set oWordApp = CreateObject("Word.Application")
        Set oDocument = CreateObject("Word.Document")
        oWordApp.Visible = True
        oWordApp.Application.WindowState = wdWindowStateMinimize
        Set oDocument = oWordApp.Documents.Open("t:\cardeals\cardeals.doc")

    If I clkick on the PDFMaker icon iside word, the resultant file is BEAUTIFUL. Can I automate this from within word? If not, does PDFMaker have a command line utility that I could put in a batch file?

    I don't have an answer, but you might get a better response in the scripting forum.

  • Acrobat 11 doesn't create pdf. files from doc. files

    I tried to create a pdf. file from a doc. file (Office 2003). Acrobat 11 instead opens a warning message with the following contents (translated from German):
    A high security level has been chosen. Start the application that created the document, activate the dialogue "safety warning", choose "always trust macros from this resource, activate ... from Adobe Systems Inc. (the message aborts there).
    I selected "Extras/Macro/Safety/Safety level" , there I selected "low". The above mentioned message still comes up.
    What do you suggest to do in order to finally create pdf. files from doc. files?
    Additional information: Creating pdf. files from xls. files (Excel), txt. files (Editor) and saving a webpage as a pdf. file all work fine.
    Thanks for your input!

    Although Office 2003 is old compared to Acrobat XI, according to Compatible web browsers and PDFMaker applications it should work, though support has passed end of life.
    So my first test (if it were me) would be to see if PDFMaker works if run in the simplest way (the only way I ever use it, this right click conversion stuff isn't in my worldview). That is, does the Acrobat menu appear in Word and does it work? If it does not work, no other method based on it can work.

  • How to open an old .book/ .doc file(s) and create PDF?

    Hi team,
    I seek your help and would like to know if you have a suggestion/ solution for the situation stated below −
    Situation
    Our development team received some files. These files seem to comprise of two sets of files and one .derive file. The sets seem to contain one .book and some .doc files each. The .doc files indicate that they are Microsoft 97-2003 documents.
    What I did
    · I tried to open the .book file with FrameMaker 8.0 or 6.0 and received an error message stating "Although <pathToBookFile>\abc.book appears to be a FrameMaker document, it can't be opened with this release of the product."
    · I tried to open the .doc file by using a text editor like MS Word97/ notepad and it displayed <MakerFile 1.03> in the File Conversion dialog box
    Saved .doc file as .fm and tried to import into/ create a new book
    Attempted to convert the .doc files by using an online conversion utility
    Opened by using HTMLDOC and DOXYGEN tools – displays BAD HEADER message
    What is required
    The files need to be converted to a readable format, preferably two separate PDFs.
    My questions
    ·         Are these FrameMaker files? Or do you suggest that they have been created by using some software other than Adobe FM?
    ·         If these are FrameMaker files – what version could they be (in view of the <MakerFile 1.03> tag)? is there a possibility that the files need a version older than Adobe FM6.0 to be opened?
    ·         How can I create a readable format (preferably PDFs) from the .book and .doc files?
    Please let me know any information that you may need.
    Thanks!

    If the .doc files actually have <MakerFile 1.03> at the start, then they're from the first release of FM. Check the book file in a text editor, to see if it has a corresponding <BookFile 1.03> in the first 16-bytes.
    These are very old files and hopefully without any corruption.
    You could try using FM's "heroic open" to see if anything can be recovered from these.
    First open/create a blank document.
    Next type <esc> o H to trigger the "heroic" open. It display a standard file open window, but this skips a lot of error checking and tries to pull whatever pieces it understands out of the file.
    You should then immediately save as MIF and then exit FM, so as to not leave it in a potentially unstable state.
    You can then open the MIF file in FM to see what's been recovered.

  • How to create a new file (doc, ppt or xls) using the secondary click??

    Is there any way to create a new file(text, doc, docx, ppt, pptx, xls or xlsx) using the the secondary click (on the desktop or any folder) just like creating a new folder using secondary click! Please do let me know!

    No. You need the Office applications to create them or another application capable of creating those types of files or at least saving files in those formats.

  • When right clicking on a doc file and choosing create a pdf file....Word 2013 launches and creates problems. We are using Acrobat Pro. Is there a way to turn off this feature in Word 2013?

    Is there a way around Word 2013 hijacking Acrobat Pro "create a pdf" process? When right clicking on a doc file and choosing "create a pdf" .......the Acrobat process will beging but then Word 2013 jumps in and creates problems.

    That's exactly why it needs to support it... The support means the
    application was tested in the supported environment and is known to work
    well in it. In unsupported environments you can get all kind of strange
    conflicts like the one you're experiencing.

  • How do you create an xsd file for an xml schema in BI Publisher?

    Helllo.
    I hope this is a really daft question for somebody..
    How I create an xsd file to be used as an xml schema to attach to a Data Definition that Ive created? I've obv. got the xml and rtf files ready and attached. I've looked through the relevant docs (XML Publisher Report Designer's Guide.pdf & XML Publisher Administration and Developer's Guide.pdf) but can't find where..
    Once this has been done then I can run the template via ORACLE Financials for the reports I've converted.
    many thanks..
    Steven

    I don't think you need to have an XSD it's an optional field. If you really want to create one use this site: http://www.hitsw.com/xml_utilites/
    I believe I answered your question, don't forget to give me the points.

  • Need help Take out the null values from the ResultSet and Create a XML file

    hi,
    I wrote something which connects to Database and gets the ResultSet. From that ResultSet I am creating
    a XML file. IN my program these are the main two classes Frame1 and ResultSetToXML. ResultSetToXML which
    takes ResultSet & Boolean value in its constructor. I am passing the ResultSet and Boolean value
    from Frame1 class. I am passing the boolean value to get the null values from the ResultSet and then add those
    null values to XML File. When i run the program it works alright and adds the null and not null values to

    the null and not null values.
    Please look at the code i am posing. I am showing step by step where its not adding the null values.

  • How to create the trace file using run_report_object at runtime

    Dear All
    using :
    Oracel Application Server 10g
    Oracle Database 11g
    Windows XP/sp3
    I'm using run_report_object to call a report inside the form. THis report is running OK from reports builder, however it's too slow when run from Application server.
    How Can I create a trace file (at runtime) that contains the time spent in sql and formating the layout of the report ??
    Here is My code :
    repid := find_report_object('report5');
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_FILENAME,'INVOICE.REP');
    v_url :='paramform=no';
    v_url := v_url||' FROM_NO=' || :PRINT_BLOCK.FROM_NO ;
    v_url := v_url ||' TO_NO=' || :PRINT_BLOCK.TO_NO ||' FROM_DATE=' || v_from_date ||' TO_DATE='|| v_to_date ||' NO_DATE=' ;
    v_url := v_url ||:PRINT_BLOCK.NO_DATE||' IDENT=' ||:PRINT_BLOCK.IDENT_NO||' REPORT_HEADING='''||V_REPORT_HEADING||'''' ;
    v_url := v_url||' COMPANY_NO='||:global.company_no;
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_OTHER,v_url);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_SERVER,:GLOBAL.INV_REPORT_SERVER_NAME);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'pdf');
    v_rep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(repid);
    IF rep_status = 'FINISHED' THEN
    V1:='/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||substr(v_rep,instr(v_rep,'_',-1)+1);
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||substr(v_rep,instr(v_rep,'_',-1)+1)||'?server='||REPORT_SERVER_NAME,'_blank');
    END IF;
    Thanks a lot

    Slow running reports often are not the result of a flawed report, but rather a flawed configuration. For example:
    1. If you call your reports (from Forms) via the default or inProcess Reports Server, often because startup time is slow, it will appear that it took too long for the report to be delievered. Using a stand-alone Rep Server is the preferred way to do this.
    2. If your Forms application makes numerous calls to RRO (RUN_REPORT_OBJECT), this can tend to result in what might appear as a memory leak (although it is not). The result is delayed processing because of the excessive memory use. This problem has been overcome in Forms/Reports 11 by the use of JVM pooling. However in v10 enabling "6i compatibility" mode is the way to overcome the issue. See Note 266073.1
    3. If the report runs fine from the Builder and it is connecting to the same db as when you run it from App Server, the issue is unlikely a db problem. However, if you want to look anyway, enable sqlnet tracing.
    4. To enable Reports tracing and investigate other tuning options, refer to the Reports 10 documentation:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B14099_11/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_tune.htm
    Almost forgot to mentioned this one....
    If you are using a v11 db with App Server 10, you will probably want to consider reviewing Note 1099035.1 as it discusses an issue related to performance with such a configuration.

  • Convert doc file generated by OpenOffice to PDF X1a

    Hi, I have a .doc file originally produced by Open Office Writer and then converted to a Word format. I would now like to use Acrobat 10 to convert this .doc file to a PDF X format, but I'm not having any luck. I've tried the following two approaches:
    1. I'm able to use Open Office Writer to convert it to a normal PDF format. I then tried to take that PDF file and convert it to a PDF X file using Acrobat Pro with Preflight, but a bunch of errors appeared.
    2. If I start in Acrobat Pro, select Create PDF from file, select my documents, none of the .doc files produced in Open Office show up on the list--as if Acrobat Pro won't read any .doc files produced by Open Office.
    Hope someone can help. I'm new to Acrobat Pro.
    Thanks in advance.

    Use Ctrl-P or Use FILE>Print when you have OO Writer open with your document. You should get something like below.
    Just select the Adobe PDF printer, check properties if you like, then print. In this case, OO shows a preview of the pages in the document as they should look. I created a simple one as an example. I did a preflight after using the PDF-X1A settings and did get errors noted. One of them had to do with tagging that does not happen when you use the print. You might try to print normally and then use preflight to convert. I tried also and still got errors. At least I may have given you some things to try.
