Create an Alert in Oracle forms 9i

I created an Alert in the form with two buttons (YES,NO buttons). Where to insert the codes for YES button and NO button?
Please help! Thanks
Patty

The Forms Help System will show you have to do this. Look up "FIND_ALERT" and there are examples. The SHOW_ALERT built-in is a function and returns a constant that identifies the button selected by the user. The following was taken directly from the FIND_ALERT help topic:
/*** Built-in: FIND_ALERT
** Example: Show a user-warning alert. If the user presses
** the OK button, then make REALLY sure they want
** to continue with another alert. */
DECLARE
  al_id Alert;
  al_button NUMBER;
BEGIN
  al_id := Find_Alert('User_Warning');
  IF Id_Null(al_id) THEN
     Message('User_Warning alert does not exist');
     RAISE Form_Trigger_Failure;
  ELSE
    /* ** Show the warning alert */
    al_button := Show_Alert(al_id);
   ** If user pressed OK (button 1) then bring up another
   ** alert to confirm -- button mappings are specified
   ** in the alert design */
   IF al_button = ALERT_BUTTON1 THEN
     al_id := Find_Alert('Are_You_Sure');
     IF Id_Null(al_id) THEN
       Message('The alert named: Are you sure? does not exist');
       RAISE Form_Trigger_Failure;
     ELSE
       al_button := Show_Alert(al_id);
       IF al_button = ALERT_BUTTON2 THEN
         Erase_All_Employee_Records;
       END IF;
     END IF;
   END IF;
  END IF;
END; Craig...

  • How to create an alert in Oracle Applications

    Can anyone help me, I want to be able to create an alert (not email) that will pop up on the screen of Oracle Applications 11i
    to remind everyone to change the passwords in xx days. I know there are alerts that send email, but people hardly check their emails
    promptly in my organization so I wish to use forms to create an alert that will pop up on the screen.
    Thanks.

    I think there is some confusion here! The solution that has been outlined is the 'standard' way of achieving the result that a user has to change his/her password every xx days. BUT, this will only prompt them when they try to log in AFTER the xx days has expired.
    I think you are asking for a method of alerting the user xx days BEFORE the password is due to expire, like Windows for example.
    I am not an expert in technical changes to forms (e.g. forms personalisation), but I thought it might help if I clarified what I think you are asking. Others may have the actual answer!
    An alert would possibly achieve what you want, but consider this... if users don't read their emails, and they only log in occasionally, what use is alerting them on the system going to be? They will still only see the alert when they log in, and that may already be after the password has expired!
    If my interpretation is wrong, please update this thread so I don't confuse anybody.
    Regards
    Tim

    weblogic server installation is perfect no errors at all.
    i also got the errors i got during installation ( im_emagent.mk and while running command gcc) . but thanks to OTN Forums i had managed to find out a fix. but on this error only solution i got is
    TRY WINDOWS . but what about linux then? is there any solution on this error?
    i am not much used to front-end ( java i mean). i am Oracle DBA Actually n want to install n try Weblogic
    Kindly Help...

    You can just copy the relevant parts (the ones marked with error). You can also look at the timing
    when it happened the reports environment did not start.
    From what i remember this could be a memory issue, standard every managed server (WLS_FORMS and WLS_REPORTS) instance
    is configured with 1024m bytes of memory.
    What we did is first install a forms instance and after that a reports instance. After the forms installation we adjusted the
    memory parameters in setWLSEnv (<middleware-home>/user_projects/domains/<domain-name>/bin). Look in this file
    for references to WLS_FORMS (something similar to: if [ "${SERVER_NAME}" = "WLS_FORMS" ] ; then).
    Another thing which springs to my mind is, which products did you select. If you just want Forms and Reports
    you can select just the following:
    - Oracle Forms
    - Oracle Reports
    - Developer Tools aan.
    - Management Components
    - Oracle HTTP Server
    and deselect the other options:
    - Oracle Portal
    - Oracle Discoverer
    - Oracle WebCache
    - Clustered (if you are not using clustering)
    We also had to fix the following files (i do not think that you have to do this since your Forms did not show any problems):
    - (On Windows) Copy the file msvcr71.dll (FMW/windows/extra) to WINDOWS/system32.
    - Copy the file mod_wl_ohs.so (FMW/<operating-system>/extra) to <middleware-home>/as_1/ohs/modules.

  • How do you create THIS "grid" in Oracle Forms

    Hi,
    I am new to Forms. I have to develop a grid very similar to the one shown here.
    How can you create the grid in the bottom??
    I can't see using any of the standard Oracle toolbox items (like multi-record blocks) for this?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    User 122...

    Hi Soofi,
    Appreciate your quick response.
    In the image, can you see a huge grid?
    Grid column headings are days of the week, Mon, Tue, Wed etc.
    Grid Rows also have names, like Room, Status and Rm. Type.
    Cells have various values in various colors (red, blue, green etc) and signs like ">>".
    Can you see that??
    My question is, how to create a grid like this in Oracle Forms??? We cannot do it using a multi record block.
    So, how have they done it??? The form in the image is an actual Oracle Form from a hotel reservation system.

  • Creating timer problem in oracle forms

    Hello,
            I am using oracle weblogic 10.3.5 with oracle forms 11g at windows 7.I am trying to make a trigger but getting frm 40738 argument 1 to builtin GET_APPLICATION_PROPERTY cant be null error. I am using code at when-new-form-Instance trigger:
    declare
        timer_id TIMER;
        one_second number:=1000;
        st varchar2(100);
    begin
        timer_id :=find_timer('CLOCK_TIMER');
        If not id_null(timer_id) then
            delete_timer('timer_id');
        else
            timer_id := CREATE_TIMER('CLOCK_TIMER',one_second,REPEAT);
            --timer_id:=create_timer('CLOCK_TIMER',one_second,repeat);
            st:=Get_application_property(TIMER_NAME);
            message(st);
            end if;
            select to_char(sysdate,'HH24:MI:SS') into :EVENTS.CURRENT_TIME from dual;
            exception when others then
            message(TO_CHAR(SQLCODE)||''||SQLERRM);
        end;
    and at  When-Timer-Expired trigger:
    declare
        timer_name varchar2(30);
    BEGIN
       timer_name := GET_APPLICATION_PROPERTY(TIMER_NAME);
    IF  timer_name = 'CLOCK_TIMER' THEN
          SELECT  TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'HH24:MI:SS')
          INTO   :EVENTS.CURRENT_TIME
          FROM   DUAL;
    END IF;
       EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN
          MESSAGE(TO_CHAR(SQLCODE)||''||SQLERRM);
    END;
            Thank You
    regards
    aaditya.

    The problem is that you have a local variable with the same name as the CONSTANT "TIMER_NAME".  Therefore, your call to GET_APPLICATION_NAME is passing the value of your Local Variable to the built-in instead of the value of the CONSTANT 'TIMER_NAME."
    declare
        timer_name varchar2(30);
    BEGIN
       timer_name := GET_APPLICATION_PROPERTY(TIMER_NAME);
    IF  timer_name = 'CLOCK_TIMER' THEN
    Change your code so your variable TIMER_NAME is unique (different) from the constant TIMER_NAME variable. A common programming standard prefix your variable names with the data time.  Following this concept, rename your variable to V_TIMER_NAME.

  • How to create dynamic blocks in oracle forms

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to create a dynamic blocks and items in forms? I mean based on table driven values I want to create a blocks and items in the forms.
    I appreciate the help.
    Thanks
    Srini.

    No, Here is an example.
    Say for example I have a table called docs in that I have three columns col_name, col_type, and table_name the data will look like below
    col_name|col_type|table_name
    empno|     single row|     emp
    empname|     single row|     emp
    I want to create a block pointed emp table and columns (fields on the block) with specified in my docs table. The col name and table name may change based on some rules. So I want to create block (s) based data in docs table.
    Thanks
    Srini.

  • Creating progress bar in oracle forms 6i

    Hii
    I have a push-button (pb_submit)
    when when_button_pressed trigger fired...I have a database main procedure to be called.
    inside that procedure i am calling 25 procedures.
    and all 25 Procedures will be executed sequencially.
    I want to use a Progress bar...
    so that user will get to know hw much % completed
    if main procedure(total 25 procedures inside) is completed successfully then progress bar should show 100%
    like wise if 1 procedure completed then 4 %
                 if 2 procedure completed then 8 %
    total 25 procedure completed then 100%
    how to implement this logic.

    After completion of each procedures call the above procedure like,
    cntr:=cntr+1;
    show_progress(round(cntr/25*287,0));
    synchronize;
    where cntr is a counter it will be incremented 1 to 25, the constant value 287 is the maximum width of PART_DISP (you can change for your need).
    The local variable cntr's initial value is 0 and maximum value is 25.

  • Urgent! Oracle Form 6

    Hi all...
    I'm new to Oracle Form... But i am using it to create a program using Oracle Form 6. I have one table called Customer. There is a button called 'Create New Customer' which will allow the user to create a new record when he/she clicks on it.
    What I want to know is 'How to make the button so it can record the new customer?'
    I've been looking around to solve this problem. But I still don't manage to get it works.
    Thank you very much

    i created an alert named UPDATE_ALERT. It has two buttons, which are 'OK' and Cancel
    Here is the code in program unit:
    PROCEDURE DISPLAY_UPDATE_ALERT IS
         alert_button NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    alert_button := SHOW_ALERT('UPDATE_ALERT');
    IF alert_button = ALERT_BUTTON1 THEN
         COMMIT;
         MESSAGE('Record successfully updated.');
    ELSE
         ROLLBACK;
         MESSAGE('Record is not updated.');
    END IF;
    END;
    And i placed the procedure in Update button trigger 'When-Button-Pressed'
    Both compiled successfully..
    I run the form and update a record. When i click on 'Update' button in the form, it does show the alert. I click on 'OK' and it prompts out 'FRM-40400: Transaction Complete: 1 record applied and saved.'
    What should i do if i don't want that message (FRM-40400)?? I know it's indicationg that the record has been sucessfully updated.
    Thank you

  • Custom Colors in Oracle Forms.

    Hi,
    As we know we can create custom color in oracle forms and process to create is
    Creating Custom colors :
    a)Go to Tools->Preferences. In General Tab On the Color Mode drop-down, select Editable then exit Forms builder.
    b)Restart forms builder.
    c)Open up a canvas window, then go to Format->Layout Options->Color Palette.
    d)select any colour on the palette and edit it
    say we created a color with rgb value r0g0b100 i edit the from rgb value to FrameColor.Therefore my new custom color name wil be "*FrameColor"*
    Is there any way to know the rgb value after changing Name?
    Kindly help me to know the solution.
    Thanks,
    Manasa

    To see the rgb value you must have set the colour palette to be editable. Then open the colour palette select the custom colour you want to see the value of then click on the Edit button where you will be able to see the rgb value for that colour.
    In 10g
    Set to Editable
    Edit -> Preferences -> change colour mode to Editable -> Exit form builder
    Add Custom Colour
    Re-open the form
    Open a canvas
    Edit -> Layout Options -> Colour Palette
    Select a colour to edit by clicking on an undefined colour i.e. a white square on the bottom far left of the palette
    In the current colour dialog it will say something like custom5 change it to a more meaningful name you can call it the rgb value
    Then click on rename -> then Edit -> change the rbg value to the colour you want to add-> click OK
    Export the custom colour palette
    From the canvas -> Edit -> Export -> Colour Palette -> give it a name

  • How long is Oracle Forms/Developer Suite to be supported?

    Hi.
    I'm just curious how long Oracle are committed to supporting or creating new versions of Oracle Forms Developer / Developer Suite. I've heard, from one or two sources, that the intention is to abandon forms, and move the focus completely to Jdeveloper some time soon...
    Is this true? does anyone know anything different?

    Here we are again whith that question...
    I'm a senior forms developer (and to make a little humour i've just recently learned designer...)
    I think the confusion comes also from "J2EE Application Development for Forms and Designer Developers" which can make us thinking oracle is pushing up to J2EE and prepare us for the Dead of Forms RIP ...
    And also that forms developer like me are a little bit afraid because they probably have no skills in J2EE.
    But for me it is clear now.
    There is no reason to migrate Forms to J2EE with whatelse tool can be sell to you.
    I tried some demos in the past with such tools and it makes me laugh, converting a simple master detail forms dept/emp.
    What can such tools make with very complex forms and logic ?
    But the question is if I had to create a new application will i still do it with Forms ?
    And the answer (for me) is no, especially when I see what the next Jdeveloper 11g will be able to do (I tried the fusion order demo and i was really impressed)
    You say "I've invested so much time in learning, and becoming proficient at Oracle Forms..."
    And so did I but I bought the book "Oracle JDeveloper 10g for Forms and PL/SQL Developers" and I study it page after page to enter the ADF world and upgrade my knowledge.
    So Forms or J2EE it is your choice and i will not post the link to the SOD (francois did it) but Forms can also live in a SOA world http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/pdf/10gR2/forms-soa-wp.pdf
    but we, forms developers, we must not only focus on forms and its death, but also go ahead and invest so much time we did to learn forms in learning J2EE, BPEL and etc etc.
    Hope this can help
    Jean-Yves
    ps : relating to older post, forms was dead each time a new version of the appServer was comming :o)

  • How to use advanced PL/SQL concepts in oracle forms/reports

    Hi all,
    Can any one suggest me how to use the advanced PL/SQL Concepts(nested tables,PAA,Varrays,Objects...) in Oracle forms.
    Actually i Created a Table having column of Varray datatype. now i want to create a item in oracle forms on this field. can any one suggest me the way to do this.
    Thanks,
    Kumar

    Hello,
    Have a look at this one:
    http://sheikyerbouti.developpez.com/tutoforms10g/tutoforms10g.htm
    particularly the chapter about block that contain a collection (2.3.3). The sample is built around a nested table but you have the idea to adapt it to work with a varray.
    Kind regards,
    Alex

    hi user ...
    on windows there are some steps in front of installation and configuration.
    1) cleare the Windows Env (Path .. Programme x86 )
         no Blank in Path and so on
    2) insert into your local host file your server and IP Adress
    3) in Windows 32 setup of WLS is JDK included so you don't have to install the jdk in front of WLS
    4) verify if you are using the right installation medium (jdk 32 bit, wls 32 bit , fmw 32 bit
    in your OraInventory/logs directory is a *.out file for your installation please can you put this file in the forum
    is there a nodemanager up and running (if so please stop)
    Jan-Peter
