How do I transfer photos from a CD and create a slideshow in Iphoto?

Import them to the iPhoto Library and on from there like any slideshow.

• Photoshop elements 10 freezes when creating slideshow from album

It seems pretty simple to just select a few pictures from the organizer, select create, select slideshow. A box comes up asking my preferences and when I say OK, the program freezes. Any thoughts?

Anwesha,
I did delete the psa.prf and status.dat files, opened photoshop elements, opened organizer, opened the catalog, hit repair, the system said it did not need to be repaired.
When finished, I selected a few photos, hit create, hit slideshow. The editor box came up, I hit OK to the preferences, then it locked up again. All other functions in the create category are working fine. So I tried the same thing all over again, deleting the files you suggested, and went back into the catalog, hit repair and when it said it did not need to be repaired, I hit ‘repair anyway’. It still did not work.
Thanks for your continued help.

• Creating slideshows with FCE

Hello everybody
In this thread I'm not really seeking resolve to a problem but, more to the tune of,
" What is lacking or missing ? " , Please let me explain, For over a year now I have been creating slideshows from stills. I cant really recall the very first app I used but, I graduated to Photo to Movie before to long. PTM did a good job but, yet something was missing to satisfy my taste so. I ran out and bought FCE and, have now been creating exclusively with FCE.
Now I'm creating all my shows using PSD files coupled with motion graphics, overlays, lower thirds so forth and so on... I have create some rather impressive shows that have amazed those who have seen them to this point. Yet, I feel I have not fully satisfied my creativity.
I have googled slideshows till I'm blue in the face, seeking examples and or direction that may satisfy
my creativity. Every site I have seen that creates these shows, create them in my opinion, a very generic way....
I have yet to use any form of plug-ins, I have only been using the filters and effects in FCE, maybe that is what I'm lacking but, plug-ins really pertain to actual video , not stills ...
The direction I'm taking this thread and, the questions I have are.
What have some of you done for dressing up slideshows ?
What other apps may you have used in creating ?
What plug-ins if any have you used ?
If you know of a site that has awesome examples could you please post a link ?
Thank you all in advance for any and all help you may offer ....

_Currently I’m working on a project where 9 stills are dropped onto the screen like cards thrown across the table, each still has an independent pan._
Thats an awesome idea really, I just created a title similar to yours . I used it to introduce the family
I'm creating the slideshow for.
_Photo To Movie type apps will do anything like that._
PTM is a good app, it's really geared up for simplicity. When I first started with PTM , I bought it with the intension of importing into FCE. However, after learning how to work with stills in FCE, there really wasn't a need for PTM. If PTM was capable of adding motion graphics as backgrounds, I would have a lot more use for it. The lack of this capability forces you to export in an animation .mov , rather than .DV NTSC , this is a big drawback. Even if I wanted to use PTM just to set my stills and, add my motion, the rendering and, re-rendering in FCE just is not worth the haste.
_I have found my best slide shows are a combination of music that really fits the theme and a good Ken Burns effect. Music moves the soul._
This is very true, I have taken it a step above this and, have started adding sound effects to my transitions, not to all of them, but to a selected few. I personally feel that adding sound effect to al of them, would be to much. The hard part for me on this is , finding just the right sound effect. I need to start toying more with Garage Band and, see if I can just create the needed sounds.
_I think the main problem is one of all artists. While I am creating it, it is my best work ever. When it is viewed by other people, they are always floored. But if I watch it a day later, it looks like a piece of poo, there was always something I could have done better or a certain something was missing._
This is all very true, I face that problem with everything I have created. Seems everyone I create I learn yet another trick of the trade and saying , " This is going to be awesome, my best yet ". Completion day comes I burn to DVD, then I nit pick it to death.
I'm very artistic and creative by nature, I know I have always been my own worst critic. If one was to ask me today how I feel, about my progress in my work. I would have to say I feel I'm about 10% of where I would like to be.

• Having trouble creating .WMV from slideshow in Organizer (11)

When creating .WMV from a slideshow in Organizer (11), the photographs aren't showing up. They seem fine in the slideshow, but when I output to .WMV I get the audio but not the pics. I have done this many times before and it has worked fine, not sure why it isn't working now.
I am trying to take these to Premier Elements to create a DVD with menus. If I take the slideshow/project, rather than a .WMV, it tells me it doesn't like .jpg and I get some black frames. In the past, if I created .WMVs, I got around this problem. Suggestions?
Thanks....

If you're running under Windows try this.
Find the Organizer executable file (on a 64-bit system this would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 12 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe).
Right-click it and select 'Run As Administrator'.
I had a similar problem when I had both PSE11 & PSE12 installed - Slide show would only ever work in one of them, but an Adobe staff member posted the above suggestion and it worked for me (both versions now work properly).

• Unable to create dvd from Iphoto slideshow?

I am unable to create a dvd slideshow from Iphoto. Any suggestions?

Yes. Here's some suggestions for getting help:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

• How to create an iDVD slideshow from an iPhoto book

Hello,
I created a book in iPhoto and would like to create a DVD of the book. I'm using iDVD 7.1.2 and iPhoto 9.5.1. Is this still a possibility?
Thanks in advance
Scott Lorigan

This tutorial should help: iP05 - Creating an iDVD Slideshow From an iPhoto Book.
Follow this workflow in iDVD to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

• Create interactive element (slideshow) from file?

Hi,i'm using InDesign CS6 with DPS. Is there a way to create a slideshow from an file (XML for example)? My objective is to create all pages needed and attaching all images in the slideshow from a database. Thanks in advance.

Sortof. You can use the Data Merge feature in InDesign to build out a set of pages based on XML content and images. That makes it easy to automate the creation of a whole bunch of pages with an image on it. You can't, however, use it to automate making multi-state object slideshows.
I wrote a blog entry a long time ago about how to use this feature to make a PDF to submit to Blurb with images from Lightroom. You may find it useful: http://www.danecreek.com/blog/2010/02/14/creating-blurb-pdfs-using-lightroom-and-indesign. html.

• Importing slideshow from iMovie 09

I don't know if it is a brain cramp or what, but I am having difficulty importing my slideshow from iMovie 09 into iDVD. I carry out all of the steps when in iMovie and then when I go to the media tab, my movie is not there. Can someone please help???

This is actually quite simple. I'm assuming you want it on a DVD? To do this go into iMovie and got to your slideshow. Click the Share tab and then iDVD. This brings up iDVD and you go on and create your main menu and burn a disc.

I need your help with a decision to use iPhoto. I have been a PC user since the mid 1980’s and more recently have used ACDSee to manage my photo images and Photoshop to edit them. I have used ProShow Gold to create slideshows. I am comfortable with my own folder and file naming conventions. I currently have over 23,000 images of which around 60% are scans going back 75 years. Since I keep a copy of the originals, the storage requirements for over 46,000 images is huge. 180GB plus.
I now have a Macbook Pro and will add an iMac when the new models arrive. For my photos, I want to stay with Photoshop which also gives me the Bridge. The only obvious reason to use iPhoto is to take advantage of Faces and the link to iMovie to make slideshows. What am I missing and is using iPhoto worth the effort?
If I choose to use iPhoto, I am not certain whether I need to load the originals and the edited versions. I suspect that just the latter is sufficient. If I set PhotoShop as my external editor, I presume that iPhoto will keep track of all changes moving forward. However, over 23,000 images in iPhoto makes me twitchy and they are appear hidden within iPhoto. In the past, I have experienced syncing problems with, and database errors in, large databases. If I break up the images into a number of projects, I loose the value of Faces reaching back over time.
Some guidance and insight would be appreciated. I have a number of Faces questions which I will save for later.

Bridge and Photoshop is a common file-based management system. (Not sure why you'd have used ACDSEE as well as Bridge.) In any event, it's on the way out. You won't be using it in 5 years time.
Up to this the lack of processing power on your computer left no choice but to organise this way. But file based organisation is as sensible as organising a Shoe Warehouse based on the colour of the boxes. It's also ultimately data-destructive.
Modern systems are Database driven. Files are managed, Images imported, virtual versions, lossless processing and unlimited editing are the way forward.
For a Photographer Photoshop is overkill. It's an enormously powerful app, a staple of the Graphic Designers' trade. A Photographer uses maybe 15% to 20% of its capability.
Apps like iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture are the way forward - for photographers. There's the 20% of Photoshop that shooters actually use, coupled with management and lossless processing. Pop over to the Aperture or Lightroom forums (on the Adobe site) and one comment shows up over and over again... "Since I started using Aperture/ Lightroom I hardly ever use Photoshop any more..." and if there is a job that these apps can do, then the (much) cheaper Elements will do it.
The change is not easy though, especially if you have a long-standing and well thought out filing system of your own. The first thing I would strongly advise is that you experiment before making any decisions. So I would create a Library, import 300 or 400 shots and play. You might as well do this in iPhoto to begin with - though if you’re a serious hobbyist or a Pro then you'll find yourself looking further afield pretty soon. iPhoto is good for the family snapper, taking shots at birthdays and sharing them with friends and family.
Next: If you're going to successfully use these apps you need to make a leap: Your files are not your Photos.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
When you process an image in iPhoto the file is never touched, instead your decisions are recorded in the database. When you view the image then the Master is presented with these decisions applied to it. That's why it's lossless. You can also have multiple versions and waste no disk space because they are all just listings in the database.
These apps replace the Finder (File Browser) for managing your Photos. They become the Go-To app for anything to do with your photos. They replace Bridge too as they become a front-end for Photoshop.
So, want to use a photo for something - Export it. Choose the format, size and quality you want and there it is. If you're emailing, uploading to websites then these apps have a "good enough for most things" version called the Preview - this will be missing some metadata.
So it's a big change from a file-based to Photo-based management, from editing files to processing Photos and it's worth thinking it through before you decide.

• Sharing script to create slideshow

Thanks for David Torno I have been able to hack together a basic slideshow script. There's still a lot more that could be done with it, but I wanted to share it so that others may be able to benefit.
Essentially, it asks for a folder location where your photos are stored, reads them in, creates a comp for each photo, resizing them and creating a border around them, adds all of the photo comps to a master comp, then sequences them, adds in some fades and slightly random placement.
Like I said, fairly basic. But quite the learning experience.
Yes, there are templates available for slideshows, but none that I found that I could just add photos to and say "Display these with a border and random placement on the screen, fading in and out." All the ones I found required replacing placeholders, or some sort of manual changes to each photo. And they were generally limited to 10 to 30 images. This script, theoretically, should be able to handle hundreds of images easily.
Next steps are to add movement to the photos (sliding across the screen as they fade in and out) and add a music track from a file (or files) selected during photo import.
Enjoy!
And thanks again to David Torno, plus anyone else who's script examples I may have borrowed ideas from.

• I've burnt a slideshow of my photos onto a DVD disc but it will not play on my DVD player. It plays ok on my acer laptop. I burnt the same disc with slideshow from my old dell computer

I've burnt a slideshow of my photos on my Apple Mac to a DVD+REW disc but it will not play on my DVD player or on a combined DVD/TV. However it will play on my wife's Acer laptop. I then erased the disc & burned another slideshow from my ancient Dell computer onto the same disc &it played just fine on everything. So it seems the problem ids somewhere in the Apple Mac process. Any ideas?

If you want to play material on a dedicated DVD Video hardware player, you must create a DVD video disc, and you must use a DVD authoring application. The software creates files that the DVD video player can play and will burn them to a recordable DVD disc. Examples of applications are:
Roxio Toast and iSky DVD Creator
Mac's used to be supplied with iDVD authoring software but Apple discontinued it in 2011.
Thanks for that. Will need to check iSkysoft out. I am in the process of looking for a VisualHub replacement/backup. Especially when it comes to ease of use. Toast is ok. Just looking for something along the lines of VH.

• IPhoto 5 Slideshow - Cannot create slideshow to include titles.

Whilst I can watch a slideshow which includes titles from a photo album, if I wish to create a slideshow from that album, there is no opportunity to then include titles, transition or music.
Selecting the display icon selection when selecting a slideshow, simply plays the slideshow rather than first of all allow settings.
Any clues?

iLife 6 installs a new bunch of sounds, tunes, Garageband loops, etc. as well as the older ones. I believe you will be very impressed with the assortment that Apple provides (/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects Folder). I know I was!

• Is there a way to sync a slideshow from my desk computer to my ipad2?

Is there a way to sync a slideshow from my desk computer to my ipad2?

Depends what your "desk computer" is (PC or Mac) and what application (PowerPoint or Keynote) you have used to create this slideshow.
Give us more information and we can tell you the best way to achieve what you want.

• Creating DVD from pictures

Hi all
Pretty new to the iMovie thing. Need to know whats the best app for creating a DVD of some vacation pics. I want to add titles, chapters (500 pics) & music. I tried exporting a slideshow from iPhoto into iDVD but it didn't play right (stopped playing halfway thru) on the set top DVD player I used....HELP!!
thanks
Dave

It really depends on what type of things you want to do with your photos.
You can set up your slideshow in iPhoto, add music and then import that into iDVD.
Or, you can import the photos into iMovie, add titles, transitions, effects, music and creative themes, you can use some thirdparty effects like 'Photo to Movie' for variety.
Have a look at Apple's iLife site for some tutorials to get you started.

• How do I export an iPhoto slideshow from my iMac to my iBook?

How do I export an iPhoto slideshow from my iMac to my iBook?

For the slideshow in the form of an Quicktime movie just export the slideshow via the export button at the bottom of the iPhoto window
and select the size to be created
If you want to have the slideshow in your iBook's iPhoto Library as it is in your iMac's library you'll need to copy the entire library from your iMac to your iBook.
A 3rd option is to export the photos used in the slideshow to a folder on the Desktop, copy that folder to the iBook, import into the iBooks library and recreate the slideshow.
