Creating a CNAME on Network Solutions

I am trying to create my first website with iWeb on me.com using a Domain Name I created at Network Solutions.  And of course the instructions for iWeb don't quite match the forms at Network Solutions.  I found how to create a personal domain name on my me.com account.  It tells me to define web.me.com as the CNAME at my regristar's website.  I found the account manager tool for CNAMEs at Network Solutions and am given two boxes to fill out:  "alias" and "other host"  The "other host" box has a radio button.  Then there is another box with a radio button labeled "Refers to Host Name" and there are two choices: "www" or "@(none).  I can check either the "Refers to Host Name" radio button or the "Other Host".  I am guessing that I should check "Other host" and that is where I enter "web.me.com".  Can some confirm?

The alias field should have the 'www' and the '@' symbols with the CNAME being set for both that then forwards to your host web.me.com.
The @ represents your domain name which is http://domain.com and then the www represents your sub domain which is http://www.domain.com.  For both these options to work both 'www' and '@' need to have CNAME's forwarded to web.me.com.
If there is no option to set a CNAME for both of these - (there should be though), then you need to set the CNAME for one, possibly the www and then use web forwarding to forward the @ to the www.
Set it up like this and see what happens.

  • Personal Domain, CNAME, Network Solutions

    Hello,
I just bought a domain name at Network Solutions. I tried to follow the iWeb instructions to point to the domain. I went out to Network Solutions manage tool and tried to set the "CNAME" to "web.mac.com" as instructed in your wizard tool and in help documents under support. Network Solutions requires and IP address and not a domain name for their CNAME entries.
Has anyone set up a personal domain with iWeb to work with a Network Solutions managed domain?

Go to this forum and type Network Solutions into the Search box.

  • Cname settings help needed for a Network Solutions Personal Domain

    Hi-
I've purchased a personal domain name from Network Solutions. I've followed the instructions that Apple has given me, and have specified "web.mac.com" as the alias name, as well as specifying "www" in the drop down box in the next field to the right of the alias field. I've also set up my personal domain name on the Apple side. However, after 48 hours, I'm still seeing the "site under construction page" from Network Solutions when I go to view my personal domain. I confirmed on the Apple side that iWeb was now using my personal domain name, and I was also able to confirm that my domain name was/is pointing to web.mac.com. What am I doing wrong? Does anybody out there with a Network Solutions domain name have any experience with this?

Did you ever get an answer on this?

  • IWeb '08 Personal Domain Name Network Solutions

This is maddening and Network Solutions is no help. I have a domain name, say <wxyz.com>, registered with Network Solutions. The CNAME page has 3 columns of fields: "Alias" field; "Refers to Host Name" with Radio Button w/popup menu including "www"; radio button w/Other Host field.
    I have tried
    1. web.mac.com; www; blank
2 web; blank; mac.com (recommended by network solutions staff)
    and neither work.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sorry to answer my own question but I called Network Solutions again and got a great tech who knew what she was doing and solved my problem. She said they are now familiar with pointing a registered domain name to web.mac.com so the best is to call and ask them to do it--1-866-908-1240.
For the curious, here's what she did:
    1. Deleted all "A" records, essentially the IP addresses that point to Network Solutions "Under Construction" web page, some with ads.
    2. She added 2 aliases (CNAME Records) for the three fields as:
    a. *; blank; web.mac.com
    b. www; blank; web.mac.com
Step 1. allowed entering www in the Alias field which I couldn't before and became totally confused.

  • Network Solutions

    I built a site in iWeb (08)
I have a domain name with Network Solutions.
How do I post my iWeb site using my domain name as opposed to web.mac.com(etc)?
    Many thanks in advance.

Using a domain name and .Mac are not mutually exclusive.
You can point your domain name to .Mac using either CNAME or web forwarding. However, if you don't wish to use .Mac at all, then you need to take out a domain hosting package that will provide you with your own web space and e-mail facilities. In iWeb, you then publish to a folder and upload using an ftp program of your choice such as Transmit or Cyberduck.

  • Personal Domain and Network Solutions

Does anyone out there have a .Mac Personal Domain site working where Network Solutions is the Registrar? If so, how did you handle the CNAME aliasing?

For anyone else having this problem it appears that you must:
    1. In the Network Solutions Advanced DNS Manager, first eliminate the numerical IP address for 'Host' entry 'www'. When you first look at this entry it will have a note something to the effect that "Currently points to the "Under Construction" page.
    2. Replace the Alias 'CNAME' with the entry 'www' then enter your Domain Name (i.e. mypersonaldomain.com) in the 'Other Host' box.
I may be wrong on this but you may need to allow a period of several hours between this two steps.

  • Option to create a new airport network is not available.

My family has 4 new Intel core 2 duo imacs running OS X 10.4.8. Mine is connected via ethernet to a router, which is connected to the dsl modem. My system also acts as the airport connection for the three other systems which share my internet connection via the buitin airport wireless.
I want to create a new, more secure airport computer to computer network using high encryption, but the option to create a new network is not available. It's not in the airport menu from the title bar, it's not in network preferences, it's not in Internet Connect. I created a new location and it did not allow me to create a new airport network.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, depends a bit where you set it up, but I'd look in Internet Connect First, if you can't find it there then launch the Keychain Access app in Utilities.
Mounting a Network Share at startup is simple as pie...
Once it's mounted on the Desktop, open System Prefs>Accounts, click on the Login Items... drag the Network Share there!
Or, Sharepoints Automounter does it easily also...
    http://www.hornware.com/sharepointsautomounter/
But the solution I prefer is to just drag the Icon to the right side of the Dock between Applications and Trash, or a folder full of Shares, for a Popup Menu!

  • Network Solution

    Hi all.
I need a network solution with following inventory and users/servers profile.
    1-2 x 4503 Switches(cisco)
    2-10 x 2950 Switches(cisco)
    3-One ISA Server.
    4-One Exchange Server
5-One DSL router for Internet Connectivity.
I have 4 sites and a single HQ. All the sties wii be connected to HQ over fiber using VPN.All the servers will have to be on central location.
Every site including central location have appx 100 users (WinXP).
Please suggest me some suitable solution. Security and Bandwidth saving is the main concern.
    Thanks.

For site-to-site VPN, remote access, and firewall services, you create security policies to then use in ISC service requests. For site-to-site VPN, remote access, NAT, and firewall services, you create a service request, which bundles together the service policy (as applicable) and the list of CPE devices for which they are intended. You then deploy the service request, which creates the device-level configurations (called configlets) and pushes them down to provision all security devices in your network at the same time.

  • Hosting website on BC but using Network Solutions for receiving emails

We have our domain name registered through Network Solutions and our emails also go through them. We went live with our Muse website (www.martellaprinting.com) by changing the A Record on NS's end by pointing to IP address 54.236.189.61. Previously, our website was pointing to some other IP 74.xxx.xxx.xx. We were advised not to redelegate to BCs World securesystems name servers because we wished to continue using NetSolutions for emails and not wipe out our existing MX records. I obtained the MX records plus 2 CNAME records, one was mail.martellaprinting.com and the other smtp.martellaprinting.com. I've spoken with NetSolutions and they say everything looks fine on their end (MX records, CNAME records.) What do I need to do in the Business Catalyst Site Settings/Site Domains? All of this is happening because, of course, we can no longer receive our emails via the email client (Thunderbird.)

Funny how life is, i have the exact reverse question to this...
How do you host just emails on BC (meanwhile porting the whole site that is hosted somewhere else with a one year contract)
A good client of mine and friend (that will redo is site with us on BC in nov 2014) received, a couple of week ago and email saying that thier hosting company for thier actual site, wont be supporting emails anymore...
they are offering my client to go the google way... which is not a bad solution.
However, it cost 50$/year per account.
i am the one who registred their 8 domains... (so i can modify the MX at the registrar.)
could i have one of them point it's MX to a BC hosting plan, while keeping it's DNS pointing to the actual website
Then tell the main domain's email to redirect to the BC one?
does that make any sence to you?
    to recap:
My client has a website and hosting. but will lose email service by the end of january.
They have 5 accounts they need to keep them alive.
Could i use BC to host theses account, not the website. (not until nov 2014)
... then at the end of their website hosting contract with the other firm, we will host everything on BC (cos they allready paid for a year)
and they are a non profit organisation so they dont have tons of cash to spend
hope you all could understand my English.
i really need help with this.
    best regards,
    ive d.

  • Error creating computer-to-computer network

Hello all, is there a fix for this issue yet?
Creating computer-to-computer networks over Airport is broken in SL for many many users!
Ad-hoc networking over wifi is essential for many iphone applications, come on Apple, sort this out?

Ok, thanks ... So Apple doesn't actually read these boards?
I've perused the numerous pages of numerous threads about the problem, and seen the numerous unhelpful replies.
Sorry, but i'm not cool with this. Apple has progressively crippled my computer's functionality with firmware/software updates. First it was the superdrive, (firmware borked by update, had to be replaced) now ad-hoc networking. These are known issues which have affected thousands of people, and have been discussed in these boards extensively. Discussions are often marked as "Solved" and locked down, when it is clear that the only solution is replacement of affected hardware as it is simply not supported by Apple anymore. This is a tactic to force people to buy new Macs. Several Mac users I know do not tinker, they just want ti to work, so they tend to buy a new Mac every 2-3 years because the "old" one has slowed down (usually due to a full hard drive) - or - in some cases, they accepted an Apple update.
The iPhone is a premium smartphone and its wifi connectivity with the Mac is much advertised. Guess what, it doesn't work for many who upgraded to Snow Leopard- yeah, "Error creating computer-to-computer network"
There is no solution other than replacing the laptop's Airport card (an operation too daunting for most users) or messing around wih windows Atheros firmware flashers . For most people it really means go back to Leopard, and if you don't know how to do that and your machine is out of warranty, tough.
I'm sorry if this isn't the place for complaining, i have already contacted Apple about it but the site says told not to expect a response. Maybe if enough people have the sme issues and make enough noise something can be done.
This must be a very easy thing to fix in the OS but the fix is probably blocked by some policy to accelerate the obsolescence of Macs. Sooner rather than later, your Mac wil be "legacy".

  • Multi-Airport, Harddrive Sharing Network Solution

Okay, I apologize as I'm sure there are other topics that handle similar issues, but I couldn't find one directly related to what I'm trying to do.
I'm setting up a networking solution for my boss, and this is what he has requested:
He has two Airport Extremes (as his house is quite large; one for each story) and a 2TB hard drive. His office consists of a MacMini, and throughout the house he has three laptops the family uses.
Now this is what he'd like to do:
Is it possible to have the drive shared through both Airports, and having both airports wirelessly linked to each other on one network? He is hoping to use the drive as he family's central storage unit, and have it accessible on the same network anywhere in the house. So, we would need roaming throughout both Airports.
I realize this is a bit of a tall order, but I'm hoping it isn't as complicated as it sounds. If anyone could please help me with details on how exactly this set up is going to look, I'd really appreciated it.

Hello Matt Gossen. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Is it possible to have the drive shared through both Airports
Yes, it is possible to have hard drive shared on the network created by both AirPorts. This drive can be attached to a computer, attached to either AirPort, or a dedicated NAS device.
and having both airports wirelessly linked to each other on one network?
Yes, this is also possible. This would be done by using one AirPort to extend the wireless range of the other. The potential issue would be the ability to configure this network due to either/both the distance between the routers and any obstacles (walls, ceilings, floors, etc.) between them.
Ideally, you would want both routers connected by Ethernet to create what is called a "roaming" network. This type of network would allow for, as an example, a laptop to walk (roam) throughout the house and be on the same network.

  • Installing Network Solutions SSL Certificate Help

I have created the CSR and gotten the certificate files back from Network Solutions. This process is different under Snow Leopard Server, which is the only way I have done this, so I am struggling to get it to work. Network Solutions has no directions for doing this with OS X Server either. If anyone has done this, could you please post step by step directions? I greatly appreciate any help!

If they sold you the certificate, and you asked and they claim support for OS X Server,
then they need to supply you with support. Be it documentation or otherwise.
However, have a look at the following and see if that helps:

  • Small Office Network Solution for Final Cut Server - Proxy Storage Etc.

    Hi,
I haven't been able to find any answers for this question by googling, So I would love if anyone here had some advice. I have the 10 License version of Final Cut Studio with 5 clients at the moment. I would like to set-up our office in the most effective way, however we are a non-profit organization, so we are working with a limited budget.
My question is, does anyone know of any networking solutions for Proxy Storage and Media storage, that wont bottleneck, but is not as high budget/high tech as using an Xserve/XSan system?
Right now we would be looking at running Final Cut Server off of our 24inch Intel IMac (Going to beef up the RAM). We have a Gigabit Switch, 4 more intel machines running final Cut pro, and a direct attached Drobo for Media Storage. I know this is not an Ideal set-up, but it's what I have to work with right now. So, I'm looking for any kinds of tips and tricks to make this set-up work for us, and am looking at purchasing either a Network Attached or iscsI storage system for the Proxy Storage.
I hope this is a decent description of my situation, and would love some advice.
