Creating a faux dock, resizing leftover window space, w/devilspie.

Here's my example. Start a *box session. Start and maximize a program. Then start tint2 or some other dock with a window_role of dock. The maximized program is then resized around the dock.
I'd like to do something like this, but with a non dock application in devilspie. My scenario would be to start a console, pinning it to the bottom with max width and a few hundred pixels high, bindind the dock property, and forcing any maximized windows to resize and treat that window as a dock. Can this be achived ? I've been fooling with devilspie and cant get anything to turn into a "dock" and force other apps to recognize it as such. I assume its almost like what would happen in a tiling wm, but I only want this to happen in one situation. Is this possible?

yesterday crashes (mar 26)were all signed Torchupdater
so I uninstalled Torch
Today's crash (mar 27)was signed window server
Cant uninstall finder....

  • Resizing a window that extends over the Dock

    Sometimes a window extends over the Dock, and it becomes difficult to 'select' the little triangle in the bottom right to resize the window. Any attempt to do so 'sees' the Dock icon instead of the window that's overlapping the Dock.
    The only way I have found to get around this is to move the window over to the right far enough to get that triangle in the clear space to the right of the Trash icon.
    Is that the only way? (Is there perhaps a keystroke that incrementally resizes the selected window to a smaller size than the current one?)
    Thanks.

    Try this:
    property app_name : ""
    set user_input to display dialog "Which application's front window would you like to resize?" default answer "" buttons {"Cancel", "OK"} default button "OK"
    if button returned of user_input is "OK" then
    set app_name to text returned of user_input as string
    end if
    tell application app_name
    activate
    try
    set bounds of window 1 to {4, 93, 1000, 700}
    on error
    display dialog "Not possible"
    end try
    end tell
    Just enter the name of the application, e.g. Safari, FireFox. You can set the bounds in the script to anything you want, of course.
    It would be nice to be able to detect the frontmost application but so far I can't do that (it sees the script as the frontmost application which is logical enough).

  • How do webpage developers get Firefox to use the windows.resize or windows.moveTo javascript functions that seem to now be passed over?

    Before V7, this code worked and did as requested every time the page was run. Now, it does not work and no error is reported. Google Chrome and Internet Explorer are able to produce th correct result.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    window.resizeTo(325,700);
    window.moveTo(1150,10);

    I have a site where I use window.open to create a login window with minimum chrome.
    On successful login, the window that created the login window updates itself to another page. The login window is supposed to resize itself and move to create a console panel to the right of the screen.
    I have tried to update the window from its parent at the point of successful login (flagged by a database change, checked frequently). I have also included code in the new window itself to resize itself to no avail.
    The new code seems to be failing on both the conditions laid out!

    Some conditions were added in 7.0 to avoid abuse of the resize and move functions:
    #Can't resize a window/tab that hasn't been created by window.open.
    #Can't resize a tab if the tab is in a window with more than one tab.

  • Using javascript to resize the window

    I've got a project that I would like to resize depending on which slide the learner is viewing.
    I' aware that the javascript method:
    window.resizeTo(width,height)
    can be used to resize a window.
    In my case I want it to be for the tall window:
    window.resizeTo(1016,650)
    and for the short window;
    window.resizeTo(1016,165)
    I'm also aware that you can tell a button (or anything else) to execute javascript.
    I'm having trouble making it work, tough.
    I've tried putting the method directly into the Script_Window for the button.
    I've tried writing a function in the published file, then having the button call that function.
    Can you paste javascript snippets into the Script_Window? Or do you need go the whole 9 yards and write the entire function, name the button instance, and tell the Captivate button to call that function?
    I'm just now sure how much Captivate knows how to do and how much I need to tell it.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for your response, Jim.
    My window was created by a previous window using the code:
    <script language="JavaScript">
    function newWindow() {
    TheNewWin = window.open("main.htm","newWin","status=no,resizable=yes,left=0,top=0,width=1014,height=6 50");
    TheNewWin.focus()
    </script>
    I tried the code above in the ScriptWindow of a Captivate button (running in a Captivate SWF in the new window). It didn't work.
    I also tried:
    TheNewWin.resizeTo(1016,165);
    and
    newWin.resizeTo(1016,165);
    neither of which worked.
    Any other guidance would be appreciated.

  • Apps open in a new window/space.. how do I turn this off so all windows open in "desktop"?

    Whenever I open an app it creates a new space to open the app in. All apps do this, and you can see the windows/spaces by hitting F3; the icons are lined up at the top of the screen. How do I disable this feature so all windows and apps open in the "desktop" space?

  • Hi, i wanted to resize my windows partion. I was thinking of using the default backup system for windows. Then switching to mac partion, deleting the bootcamp and then restoring a new enlarged partion from the backup. Is this possible?

    hi,
    i wanted to resize my windows partition. I was thinking of using the default backup system for windows. Then switching to mac partion, deleting the bootcamp and then restoring a new enlarged partition from the backup. Is this possible?

    I see youhave gotten recommendatons for using WinClone or CampTune.  I have used both and they both work well.
    You have asked about using the WIndows 7 utility to backup your drive and restor it onto a larger partition.  I will tell you fro experience that this will probably not do what you want, and may do something that you don't want.  You can use the Windows 7 native backup tool to make a backup of your Windows 7 partition.  It will most liekly end-up making a dive image of the whole drive.  When yourestore that backup, it will try to re-create teh partitions of exactly the same size as they were when the backup was taken, so it won't increase your partition size for you.  Worse, since Windows doesn't natively know how to read./write HFS+ volumes, the backup will make a partition for your MacOS (replacing any you may have now), except that the copy restored by WIndows will be totally worthless, and you will not be able to boot MacOS from it, or even read it under MacOS.
    Now I will tell you that I've also had some fairly good success working with the free tool CloneZilla.  Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, and everything else mentioned does cost you money, I thought I would throw it out.  CloneZilla is not as easy to use as the tools mentioned, but it has worked for me int hte past, so it is something to consider.  I tend to use CampTune myself, but that was because I purchased a bundle deal for them and it was included in that deal.

  • Resizing a Window and proportionately varying the size of all it components

    Hi,
    I am writing a java application in which I am creating different componets like Panels, Canvas, ScrollPane etc. on a Frame. When I resize this Window, I want to proportionately vary the sizes of all its components. Any idea how I can do that ?
    Thanks,
    Arun

    Panels, Canvas, ScrollPane etc. on a FrameThose are all AWT Components. This is a Swing forum.
    Also its about time you learned to respond to the suggestions you've been given in the past so people know if the advice given is helping or not. Otherwise we will just stop answering questions since it appear you are ignoring all the suggestions.

  • Automatic resizing of Window

    I've created a window that let's the user know that a child transaction
    is being started. I add three dots to a TextGraphic widget message
    until the child task is started. However, the window pane automatically
    gets bigger every time the three dots are added (using a TickInterval

    the dots aren't added. I also tried setting the autosize enabled option

    sized the window with more than enough room for the extra dots, but the
    window still gets resized each time. I am using the UpdateFromData
    method to update the window.
    I want the dots to be added with the window pane resizing itself
    everytime.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Don't you mean **without resizing** ?
    I tried coding the widget as a size of explicit <<This should work, but you will have to manually re-size the TextGraphic
    on the window to a sufficient width.
    An alternative would be to group this widget into a panel and then
    re-size the panel to a sufficient width and set the panel size policy to
    explicit (default).
    Hope this helps.

  • Flash CS3 - Resize HTML Window

    Ok, I will word this in a different way. I posted earlier and
    received no responses. So, I will post once again.
    I am trying to make sure that my Flash CS3 Html web page
    stays centered across various computer monitor
    platforms.
    I found this code in an earlier post and wondering if the
    code will work.
    self.moveTo(0,0);
    self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);
    Also, how many on this forum are working in Flash CS3? I know
    it's quite different than Flash 8.
    Thanks,
    Franchelle

    I'm still not sure about exactly what it is that you want to
    do. In any case, let me explain the various options that you have
    to displaying your Flash movie in an HTML document.
    In the Publish Settings window, in the HTML tab, there are
    two settings that will effect how your movie displays itself. The
    first is titled "Dimensions" and has three options: Match Movie,
    Pixels, and, Percent. Match Movie will force your Flash movie to be
    presented in its original dimensions. Pixels will allow you to set
    an absolute size for the movie. Percent will set the movie's size
    to a percentage of the available HTML window space.
    The second option, "Scale", has four options: Default, No
    Border, Exact Fit, and, No scale. Default will show your movie
    scaled to fit the window, No Border will allow your movie to scale
    without regard to the original proportions. Exact Fit will scale
    the movie in proportion to its original size. No scale will keep
    your Flash movie at its original size and resize matte around the
    movie to fill the available space. Scale has no meaning unless you
    use either Pixels or Percent in the Dimensions option setting.
    If you want to fill the HTML window space, regardless of its
    size, then use Pixels for the Dimension option and set the values
    for the width and height to 100%. If you want your movie to fill
    the window and enlarge or reduce as needed, then choose Default for
    the Scale option. If you want your Flash movie to remain at its
    original size and the matte to fill the available space in the HTML
    window then choose No scale for the Scale option.
    There are two other options on the Publish Settings screen
    that seem as though they would be useful, but they are not. The
    first is the HTML alignment option. This can be set for Default,
    Left, Right, Top, or, Bottom. Most are meaningless. Any setting
    except Right will force the Flash movie to sit in the upper left
    corner of the HTML window if the Dimensions and Scale options are
    left to their defaults. Using the Right setting will force the
    Flash movie to the upper right corner of the HTML window.
    The second option is the Flash Alignment option. This option
    will position the Flash movie relative to matte. This option will
    only take effect if you choose Pixels or Percent in the Dimensions
    option and a Scale option of No scale.
    There are no settings in the Flash Publising Options, or
    anywhere else in Flash to set or change the size of the HTML
    window, or to position that window on the user's monitor screen.
    The size and location of the HTML window is controlled by the
    browser.
    You need to use Javascript control the browser window. This
    will only work if the end user has Javascript enabled. To position
    a browser window, you use the moveTo() function. A simple function
    to position a window might look like this:
    <script language="javascript">
    function centerWindow() {
    var thisWidth = window.outerWidth;
    var newX = (screen.width - thisWidth) /2;
    self.moveTo(newX,0);
    </script>
    window.outerWidth will return the width in pixels of the HTML
    window, including any chrome on the sides of the window.
    Screen.width will return the width of the user's screen.
    Self.moveTo(x,y) will move the current HTML window to pixel values
    in the parens.
    To change the size of the HTML window itself, you use the
    resizeTo() function. Here's a simple example:
    <script language="javascript">
    function maximizeWindow() {
    self.moveTo(0,0);
    self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);
    </script>
    This example uses screen.availWidth instead of screen.width.
    Screen.width will return the full width of the user's screen,
    screen.availWidth will return the width minus any space occupied by
    widgets that will not give up their space.
    In order to completely fill the HTML window with your
    content, you will also need to reduce the size of the window's
    margins. You can use a simple CSS declaration in the head of the
    HTML document to achieve this:
    <style type="text/css">
    body {margin: 0px}
    </style>
    This will work for every browser, except Opera. Opera also
    pads the window object. So, you'll need to add this line to account
    for Opera users: padding: 0px.
    You can use a combination of all of these settings to size
    and position your Flash movie and the HTML window on your end
    user's screen as you like.

  • Smartform utilisation of the footer window space dynamically

    Hi All
             I have created a smart form with a main window and footer window below the main window, in all pages where the table data is printing over the main window ,the space is left for the footer window since the footer window data will be printed only after completion of main window only. Now in all the pages space is left below the page... How to utilize the space dynamically for footer window only after completion of main window.
      If main window data is there then footer window space should be utilized by main window in all pages. and if main window data is completed then only the footer window space should be considered and printing the footer text.
    How to achieve this....... please guide me
    Regards,
    Lokesh.

    Hi Lokesh,
    just place your this template after all of your data in main window (as shown after the table in screenshot below), i.e. after your table and make its usual flow , as shown in below screenshot, whenever your all data get printed then the text in these smartform will get printed.
    i.e, put your this template as last element in your smartform, and let it be printed as usual
    If you are not able to do it like as shown above, then go to the template and Double Click it, then Go to its Conditions Tab, and Check the "only before end of Main window."
    Let me revert , if still your problem persist.

  • RESIZING TO WINDOW

    Hi, does anyone know how I would go about to achieve
    something like this here:
    http://www.brook-pifer.com/
    Resize to window, and constrain an image's width/height to
    the window's width/height?
    I'm a total n00b to flash, but some insight would be GREATLY
    appreciated

    Hi,
    No I've come really close to an answer but as with most threads i receive, I'm none the wiser. I'm not that proficient in Flash so I have trouble deciphering the advice on here.
    There's a few options really that i've come across, but the best way of achieving multiple scaling options is to do it all within Flash and use something called scaleMode (in AS3). However, I have yet to get it to perform exactly the way I want it to. If you search scaleMode in Flash Help it will point you in the direction and a simple tutorial to get it working. This also didn't work outside of the swf, i.e didn't work in a browser, so back to square one.
    Another method is to create 2 swf files (one for your background, and another for the rest of your site) and layer them with div tags (you have to set the top swf with a transparent background). I scaled my bottom layer Div to 100% (also the swf) so it fits the entire window and also scales. The only problem i had with this method is that if you don't want the top layer to scale and the window provides a scroll bar to view the rest of the swf, suddenly the bottom layer decides to stop filling the screen (this method, although probably not the most efficient would have done the trick if the bottom Div Tag didn't behave this way)
    I really think this effect is brilliant and makes good use of Flash output rather than having a great looking and working site display in a boring window constrained by the basic UI settings flash has to offer (it can also be used for video, which looks amazing) I'm sure there's some easier advice on how to get it working, so if anybody has better insight please post it!

  • Resize safari window question

    Every time i open safari i have to drag the window over to the left so i can see the scroll bar and then i have to resize the window to fit the screen. How can i fix it so the window is always centered and fills the screen whenever i open safari?

    You're misunderstanding this. The "Resize to Full Screen" text is a Bookmarklet; you click and drag it to your Bookmark Bar in Safari, then click on it from there to resize your screen. But apparently those don't work in the forums, so here's the raw code:
    javascript:self.moveTo(0,0);self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);
    Create a new Bookmark (copy one if you need to just to get the necessary fields in Safari without creating a folder), copy/paste that code for the Location or URL field, then place it on your Bookmark Bar.
