Creating a join in a data model

I'm still a fairly rookie java developer, so I hope someone can help me with this question. I'm working on learning the data modeling aspect in JDeveloper (TopLink or ADF Business Components). If the Creating Business Components from Tables wizard doesn't create a join between selected tables, how do I go about relating the selected tables? Our database is Oracle 10g, for a 3rd party application where we don't control the schema. Thanks for any help.

Yes, You can create a viewObject that is based on entities.
When you shuttle the base entities to the right in the wizard there is a check box at the bottom that let you specify if they are updatable or not.

  • Creating Time dimension in BW data model. - like seen in logical data model

    Hello all,
I have been struggling with this thing and I am looking for some help from anyone on this forum.
We are trying to create a logical data model of our bw system. We are going live next month with Student module for universities. We have multiple Infocubes and DSO and since there is so much crossing over in between them most of the reporting is done on infosets.
One of the thing we were thinking; is it possible to create something like a common time dimension table for every infoprovider. Basically when we are providing the reports to the end user can we give them a drop down menu which gives a time frame for reporting rather than selecting.
Example: Like can we create something which looks in the drop down like current month data, last months data, three months ago, four months ago, five months ago, one year ago, two years ago. Can we make like these data slices in our cube and deliver it to the end user?
We have in our cube a few date infoobjects, like receipt date, decision date, cancellation date and like wise.
Please let me know if any one has done any similar thing, it will be very helpful.
Thank you so much in advance.

if you add your common time dimension to your data model, first identify for each infoprovider the time against which 'current month' and other frames should be applied and map them to your dimension.
just a question... are you not using time dimension in cubes ? ideally this should be your time dimension llinking all.
when you use time dimension which uses 'current month' , 'current year' , you will have to address their historisation as well. (because current month now will not be so current after 2 months).
so in data load procedure every day these values need to change (meaning drop and reload).
and routines to populate these values based on reporting date.

  • Creating a report having Multiple Data Models...

Using BI publisher for Word 10.1.3.4
I am attempting to create a template in MS Word with the report settings I have created in BI Publisher.
I've created two data models, both referencing different tables that I will need on the report itself. The issue I have having is whenever I use the table wizard, the rowset is grayed out and only the default data model (sql query) can be used.
I looked around and was unable to find a solution to this.

I have done this and it worked.
However I created an additional data model (I need 3 total) and only 2 of them are showing up.
I tried logging in and out of BI Publisher, setting the main data model to the new one and then back to the concatenated data source and nothing seems to work.
Whenever I got back into BI Publisher, I attempted to run the table wizard and got the following error:
"The table wizard can't handle this data xml."
    Please advise.

  • How to create a nuw field in data model

    Hi,
I am using report builder data model, i have 2 query (Q_1, Q_2). Q_1 has a field F_1, and Q_2 has a field F_2, is it possible I can create a new field for both query: (Q3=Q2-Q1).
    thanks

Question: how are you making sure that the data frequency is same? If you can and you are certain then why do you need to have two different groups?
Accepting your design... in the following situation it should work
    1) if Q2 group is a child of Q1 then you create a formula column (where you define the equation in the pl/sql editor) in Q1.
    2) there is a data link from Q1 to Q2 then create the formula column (mentioned in #1) in Q2. If you create formula column in Q1 that will not work.

  • Support of PL/SQL Functions in Data Modeler

    Hello,
Sorry if this question has already been answered, I searched the forum but got 215 hits on data modeler + pl/sql functions.
    So my question is:
Stored Procedures are already supported by the physical model (11g) of data modeler, but I could not find any method
to create pl/sql functions via data modeler - neither in the documentation nor on the user interface. Is this
    currently not supported?

Is this currently not supported? There will be support for functions and packages in next release.

  • Problem with Data Model and Analysis View

I create an analyze in BI Publisher and then i create a data model using this object.
When i try to generate an XML with a number of rows the BI Publisher return an empty XML (Only with de DATA_DS tags but no data).   To bypass this problem i make and XML file by hand and this allow me to create reports and design it but when i try to view the reports i got the message that says "No Data Found".
So i was check the analysis and all looks appears to be fine,  In the results tab it show me a complete table with the data i was looking to use.
So i try to repeat the error and when  i try to create the XML for the Data Model i found this two error in the logs:

As i understand there is has a reference to a null value but i cant find what column of the analysis has the problem.
Any ideas about how to solve or debug this?
    Thanks

I follow your instructions and it works fine. I can create the XML and the reports can show data.
So, i already know that there is no problem with the data and with the BI Publisher installation but i still doesn know what is the problem with the analysis view that fails.
Any idea how to debug it?
    Thanks.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler Viewer - domain datatypes

I'm using the SQL Developer Data Modeler Viewer (that comes free with SQL Developer) to view a model that was created in Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (the chargeable product). The colums have all been defined using domain datatypes. I have an XML file defining the domains but I cannot see where in the viewer you can import a domian file into or where in the model's directory structure the file can be placed to be read by the viewer. Without this the columns are all showing as datatype 'Unknown'.
    Any help much appreciated, thanks.

two set of domains can be maintained in Data Modeler:
    - per installation - they are in file defaultdomains.xml in "datamodeler\domains" directory
    - per design - they are in "domains" directory under your design directory -
"Per installation" domains are used in your case - "per design" domains are "attached" to design - when you send the design to someone else, they are in design structure.
Your solution - to get defaultdomains.xml file from installation where design is created and to put it in your "datamodeler\domains" directory.

  • Oracle Data Modeling

Hello, I download Oracle datamodeling-1.5.1-525 and I create a logical model of my future database. My database have about 127 entities, 974 attributes and 233 relations.
I want generate ddl sentences in oracle and generate my oracle scheme in my database (Oracle SE 10G R2). I tried to create a relational model throught to Designer -> Engineer to Relational Model (Ctrl-Mayus-F) but nothing happend. The program does not anything, no errors no models, nothing.
    Can anyone help me, please?
    Thanks you very much!!!
PD: Excuseme, but I'm Spanish and my English is horrible.

    Hi Roberto,
do you still use build 525? You can try the latest version here [http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/datamodeler/index.html] . Please pay attention to "release notes" and remark there - "Note for designs created with earlier versions of Data Modeler – persistence has changed and it’s strongly recommended that you use the “Save As” functionality to create new version of designs".
New version will resolve possible inconsistencies and you can engineer to relational model.

  • Hierarchies in SAP MDG data model

    Hello Gurus,
Could any one please let me know how to create hierarchies in SAP MDG Data models..I have gone though the SAP Help document and but couldn't understand it..If any one has worked on this , please let me know.
    Regards,
    Raghu.

    Hi Jose,
I'll start with simple hierarchy demo containing HIERARCHY NAME, GROUP and OBJECT.[HIERARCHY NAME is the top node, GROUP is the middle node and OBJECT is the end node]
1.In data model, you have to create all the as 3 entity types.
2.In the middle node,i.e. GROUP here, choose the hierarchy option as version dependent or Non-version dependent as per your requirement.
3.In the middlle node,i.e. GROUP here, build hierarchy by assigning
Entity Type for hierarchies ->Entity Type of Node , Use
Here the top node,i.e. HIERARCHY NAME ,will be assigned use as Hierarchy names
You can find related documentation by using F1 help on specific field.
4.Your hierarchy model is now ready.

  • Limit on amount of data models?

I have a report I am creating and the requirement is 6 different "dashboards" (summary of information).
I created 6 different SQL queries and created each in a different data model, set the default as concatenated and opened MS Word to create the template. Whenever using the table wizard, only 5 show up.
Is this a known 'issue' with BI Publisher? If there is a limit to the amount of data models, is there a way around this?

Issue was that the SQL Query was not returning any data.

  • Prob in joining Query1 and Query2 in Data Model

    Hi,
I m facing a prob. in joining Multiple queries
Under data model I've created 2-3 queries which I've to join internally and in my Query1 only 1 bind variable is there, for which i've created a parameter
but for Query2 and Query3 I m going to user one column value of Query1 as parameter.
When i m doing this the Xml formed returns only Query1 value and Query2 and Query3 comes as blank.
    Eg.
    Query1 : select deptno,dname from dept where deptno=:p_deptno <:p_deptno is a parameter created in parameter list>
    Query2 : select empno,ename,mgr from emp where deptno=:deptno <where :deptno, i m expecting to come from Query1>
    but it not happening
whereas my Xml comes as display below:
    <DATA>
    <Q2>
    <Q2_ROW>
    <DEPTNO>10</DEPTNO>
    <DNAME>ACCOUNTING</DNAME>
    </Q2_ROW>
    </Q2>
    <Q1 />
    </DATA>
    tanks in advance for replying
    Regards/goutam

Personally, I have had a hard time doing what you are asking for using netui tags. I have had the same case, and asked the person in my team to just return a collection of value objects and then iterate through it without the repeater tag. To use the checkbox, I have had to use a String[].

  • Issue while creating Data Model in BI Publisher and logging into xmlpserver

    Hi All,
We are facing an issue in OBIEE 11.1.1.5.
If we are logging with Non Admin Id (other than weblogic) and select New Data Model, a blank screen is coming. Where as, if we use Admin Id, we are getting screen as usual for creating data model. There were some blogs mentioning to change Priviledges for  SOAP access, but that approach is also not working.
Further, we are also not able to open xmlpserver with Non Admin Id.
Any help or pointers would be great.
    Regards,

how about pasting the content of your data template here, so that forum members can see what could be the problem.

You should have a group called 'XMLP_ADMIN' in your repository and administrator or the user you are using should be part of that group. Look into paint.rpd for all these.

    Hi karthik
    Thanks for your response
Actually iam a beginner in java coding hence struggling to come up with the things
I tried putting your code and onserver side i see it is returning 09:12:17,234 INFO [STDOUT] [root: null]
actually the same program i wrote in java
and the same method i was calling from the main
and it is working fine and the xml document is getting displayed one important thing to be noted here is that the factory.newDocumentBuilder().parse(new File(filename));is returing XmlDocument
    and the printing takes place
but the in same method public static Document parseXMLFile(String filename, boolean b) in servlet
the line factory.newDocumentBuilder().parse(new File(filename)); is returning DeferredDocumentImpl
and this creating problem , had it returned XmlDocument
i would have printed the elements one one
but as it is returning deferredimpl
iam unable to print the elements
could you please tell me why factory.newDocumentBuilder().parse(new File(filename)); is returning DeferredDocumentImpl
in servlets but in plain java pogram it is returing XmlDocument
    Thanks
