Creating a MODEL - performance

Hi.
I am trying to create a very simple MODEL over my cube.
The model has only a variable set to a program that takes two arguments (two other variables).
This program evaluates the higher value and returns it.
(IF THEN ELSE)
When I execute the MODEL it takes TOO MUCH time to run...
I believe the cause is related to loopings.
Does anyone have some experience in creating complex MODELS?
What are the ways to achieve the best performances for MODELS?

Well let's see:
a) upgrade from 4.5 to 2008 created an error 1706 about vcredist.msi - Microsoft Visual C++ runtime not being found. This seems like such a basic thing to handle on an install / upgrade, and yet was missed. Why?
b) NO way to get telephone support when installing upgrade I purchased within an hour. Are you kidding me? This is software for businesses right? Not like we're installing some game software for the kids here!
c) I have no clue if my auth key actually took or not. In 4.5, you can easily see your registration key when looking on the "About" screen (i think). I can see no way to validate I am running a registered version (checked due to the install error above) and when I try and use the License Management function, nothing happens and the OK button is greyed out.
d) I now cannot even open 2008. I made a post on this earlier, but I now get a very obscure error / crash upon opening 2008. Worked fine for a little while. Now nothing. Software has not even been installed for 24 hours yet. Great.
All in all, a really poor showing here from Business Objects / SAP. With 20+ years in high-tech - including building products for two startups - this seems rushed to market and not really tested thoroughly.
Not at all what I expect for a business application, and I have great buyer's remorse right now!
Hope things improve - and soon. For now, I may drop back to 4.5 in hopes of actually getting some work done that is due next week.

it is not possible with the BAPI due to the piece of coding:

But you can do that by using directly the Records API. How to use this is demonstrated in the report 'SRM_RECORD_API_HOWTO'. Search there for the subroutine 'fillrecordelement'. There a record element for insert is created and its type is set. You can set the type there to 'IF_SRM_SP_RECORD_ELEMENT~TYPE_MODEL'. Of course your POID then may not be an instance POID.

SAP provides standard templates to proceed with appraisal cycle.
one should be aware of using the existing appraisal templates and if they are not suitable we can create our own templates.
Before getting into appraisal firstly get all the requirements from client and the start point of appraisal and end point of appraisal i.e, ratings.
after getting all the required things you can start with OSA (objective setting and appraisal).
there are standard workflows to complete the ratings....
on top of this get familiar with the objects like VA, VB, VC and other objects of appraisals.

Issue while creating Data Model in BI Publisher and logging into xmlpserver

Hi All,
We are facing an issue in OBIEE 11.1.1.5.
If we are logging with Non Admin Id (other than weblogic) and select New Data Model, a blank screen is coming. Where as, if we use Admin Id, we are getting screen as usual for creating data model. There were some blogs mentioning to change Priviledges for SOAP access, but that approach is also not working.
Further, we are also not able to open xmlpserver with Non Admin Id.
Any help or pointers would be great.

How to customize Category and Category items list while creating New Model

what the most convenient way to customize the Category and Category items list while creating New Model?
This is standard:
Now, what we want to achieve, is to customize this menu, to:
1. Display in the Category window only f.e. two categories:
- EA Diagrams
- BPM Diagrams
2. In the EA Diagrams, we want to have f.e. four copies of City Planning diagram, each of them should have different elements available, f.e. in the first copy, only Architecture Areas shall be made available, in the second one Architecture Areas and Business Functions, in the third on f.e. only Business Functions shall be made available. Additionally, it should behave like a hierarchy ... meaning you can create the second diagram, only as child (related diagram) of the first diagram etc.
I know, excluding the particular diagrams/diagram elements can be configured using the right/profile settings, but how to:
1. Customize the standard New Model menu window
2. Create copies of City Planning Diagrams with different set-ups
3. Set the relationship between diagrams
Is such a configuration change possible?

Click on Tools => General Options=> Model Creation
Click on Properties => at right of Default category set
Note : Model template does not work as Category. We can't set. An enchancement request has been open to SAP
In the following example I defined a new default (MyNewDefault.mcc). As you can see only BPMN models are available.
To create a new category set with BPMN choice
a) Copy default.mcc in MyNewDefault.mcc file.
    Go to Tools=>General Options=>Model Creation : Select your new category
    Go to Tools=>General Options=>Model Creation : Edit properties and remove all things you does not want keep
or
b) Go to Tools=>General options=>Model Creation : Edit properties and click on Save as button and specify the file name "MyNewDefault".
    Quit the window.
    Select you new category : Go to Tools=>General Options=>Model Creation : "MyNewDefault"
    Edit properties and remove all things you does not want keep.
    Save you new category
Question #2. How to define copies/replicas of existing diagrams
     Wrote an extension
Question #3. How to make sure, particular diagrams can be used (created) only on predefined "levels" and how to set the parent-child relationship, so that PD enforced it directly when creating a new diagram.
     Specify yours conditons in your extension attached to your model
     Example : When the user want create a child diagram : You can display a list of Parent Diagrams to select from.
     You can set in your extension by VBScript parent-child relationship

If I understand well your question. I suggest to take a look in
Repository=>Administration=>Objects Permission Profile
You can specify objects to show, mask, deactivate at model level.
You can specifiy your own metadata.
But I'm not sure you can mask, deactivate functions following diagram selection. It seem to specific.

Tabular Model Performance Improvements

We have a bulitv tabular model inline which has a fact table and 2 dimension tables .The performance of SSRS report is very slow and we have bottle neck in deciding SSRS as reporting tool.

Program for creating a model is locked by User

We have created a process chain to create the Integration Model and to activate the Integration Model using this prg RIMODGEN. So, This prg we have created variants for different location wise. This process chain contains 13 processes For each location, which is running in parallel. Some time we are getting the error message " Program for creating a model is locked by User

Locking happens if there is any overlap of models or duplicate scheduling of jobs with same variant.
See include LCIFIF01

So this means for you, you get the lockentry if the modelname, logsys and apoapp is the same. So please check again your variants if there is one with the same integrationmodels.
This can be the only reason we you get here this entry in your joblog.

Can someone please guide me how can I create a Model which takes it's Data from a table in an SQL Server?
Can I make such a Model that will connect directly to a Datasource on the Application Server?

I was also facing some similar problem, just now got my service displayed in portal. Thanks a lot that you could solve it urself. Anyway, now for using this service from another portal component do the following
1. Add SharingReference value in Deployment Descriptor of the portal app from where u want to access this service
example:

<property name="SharingReference"      value="com.customer.training.MyFirstPortalApp">
</property>
</application-config>
2. Add libraries of the Portal Service (xxxapi.jar)
in your par file u can see one jar file as <servicename>api.jar . extract this to some other location and in the client portal app project add this .jar to its build path.
3. Write code to access the Portal Service
    a. Import package of the Portal Service
    b. Get instance of the Portal Service
    c. Call methods of the Portal Service
example:IPortalRuntimeResources runtimeResources =      PortalRuntime.getRuntimeResources();
IService aService = runtimeResources.getService("com.customer.training.MyFirstPortalApp.MyService");

Issue while creating a model

Hi,
I am creating an model expression to calculate value at leaf level for one of the member.
my expresssion is like this
type_calcparent = type_postcogs + type_postrev + type_-1
Model is not accepting "type_-1" value and taking type_ and -1 as different values thus giving error saying "type_" value do not exists in the dimension.
Also type_-1 exists in dimension.
Any solution to this problem.

When using dimension values containing characters that have special meaning (calc operators, spaces, etc.) you will need to refer to these dimension values using quoted dimension values. Your calculation need to be written like this
type_calcparent = type_postcogs + type_postrev + 'type_-1'
Note: Most likely the dimension value will be in capitals, since quoted dimension values are used the value needs to be an exact match, so most likely it would need to be
type_calcparent = type_postcogs + type_postrev + 'TYPE_-1'
Best practice is to avoid these kind of dimension values.

This error occurs mainly due to the reason that particular plugin is not there in the NWDS.
So please try to reinstall the NWDS or try tracing out whether that particular plugin is there or not.

Problem in creating DATA Model from SQL SERVER 2008 in BI PUBLISHER

I connect BI Publisher with SQL SERVER 2008 But On creating Report on BI,when we create data model...dataset,
i select the tables but when i click on RESULT i am geting this error.

The things I said are not a fix for this problem.
If your RCU installation worked, then you do not have to worry about modifying the createfr.sql.
Edit:
I've just tracked the problem. It appears that when using the query builder, BI forgets to add the " sign.
For example:
This query will give the hyperion error.
select     "table"."field"
from     "database.user"."table"
To correct it write it like this:
select     "table"."field"
from     "database"."user"."table"

Error when creating data model - Internal Server Error

When trying to create a new Data Model in BI Publisher (11.1.1), we are getting a “Internal Server Error” message and the page to create data models wont display. We are able to login to BIP with any user, but we cant do anything else… (seems due to a null pointer exception, as shown in this message):

Java.exe Error while creating the Model in Webdynpro

Hi,
I am creating the Model in Webdynpro Project. I have given the SAP r3 user id Passord details. after giving these details and clicking on next, it is giving an Error as " *Javaw.exe has got some problem needs to close. sorry for the inconvenence*". NWDS is getting closed if I click on Ok in the Pop-up window message.
I did re install the NWDS as well. but still the problem is persisting. and not able to proceed further.appreciate the quick resolution .

Unable to Create Entity Model from existing oracle database

Hi,
I am using Visual Studio 2013, .net framework 4.5, entity framework 5.0 and oracle 11g database.
Issue Description: I need to develop WCF service to exposing the account information which needs to get the data from 20 oracle tables. Trying to create entity model from existing oracle database. first i tried creating just two tables it
was created but it took more than 30 minutes. then i selected remaining few tables it took more than a days but nothing created just showing spinning the wheel. then i tried with fresh project and selected all the tables but same issue nothing created and
also there is no error. during this process i checked database query monitoring there is a big sql statement collection tables metadata. i don't know what was wrong the query taking too much time to complete the process.
we tried multiple machine and different oracle database all are same issue.
Sql server database -looks good no issues.
Any help/tips/ideas welcome to overcome this issue.

Can't create a model

Hi,
I have an usable SLD server.
Now, I have to configure NDS on my local workstation.
I have changed the windows hosts and services files and inscribed the SLD server as group in my SAP Gui Frontend.
Now, if I want to Create a model in my Webdynpro application, I don't see the message server in the combobox "System" of the register card "Load Balancing".
I know that the SLD is working correctly, but I can't use him.
Can it be a problem, that I have installed the NDS before I have installed the SAP Frontend Gui?

the NDS doesn't use the SLD for these settings.
you have to enter your message server manually.
