Creating a new folder and drive map with Preferences

So I am trying to set things up using GPP so that users of a particular security group get a U:\ drive at the following location:
\\server\share\%username%
I have set up the drive map preference & also a folders preference (to create the user's folder).  The problem is that it works BACKWARDS and the drive tries to map prior to folder creation and thus fails, THEN the folder gets created.  So
that the 2nd time the user logs in they actually get the U:\ drive at the correct location.  The goal is to have the folder created and mapped to on the 1st try for the user.
How can I get this working WITHOUT resorting to scripts, folder redirection, or manually setting the U drive on the AD Profile?  I just want that folder to be created for only users in the proper security group, and then have the drive map
to it.
# When I wrote this script only God and I knew what I was doing. # Now, only God Knows!

You cannot. The execution order of GPO parts (called Client Side
Extensions) cannot be changed, so you're stuck with this error if you
don't resort to a script :)

Can you create a new folder and put several documents in it in Adobe?

Thank you for your help. Now I just want to expand on this a bit. To use the Applescript you have supplied me, how do I tell it to name the folder other than by date, and where to put it?
Let me say, preferably, is it possible to make an action like this right-clickable? Instead of having to pick a script. Anything that slows this process down means I might as well do it all by hand. What I'd really love to do is this:
Select a number of items. Right click to an action saying "create a new folder and put this items in it. Name the folder with the first item's name". Very simple and quick.
Could this be accomplished? Through Automator? or something that can appear in the contextual menu? Folder actions?
I'm just getting started with using these tools.

  • A script to create a new folder and place selected items into it?

I'd like to select a few items and have either an Apple script / contextual menu automatically create a new folder and place the selected items inside it.
I have many, many to do—which is why I wanted to know if there is a script or automator or contextual menu thing available. Or if not, how can I create one?
Can that be done? Thank you!

  • Windows 7 hangs when creating a new folder and hangs again when renaming it.

Ok, so I have a problem where Windows 7 hangs when creating a new folder and hangs again when renaming it.
I have documented this problem on my blog here:
Windows 7 hangs when creating a new folder and hangs again when renaming it Rhyous's 127.0.0.1 or ::1
This has my hardware details, etc...
I consider myself an expert at troubleshooting (being in support for over 10 years including time as a Lead Technician doing Windows 2000 support focussing on performance), and have checked quite a few things to try to pinpoint this issue, but I just can't find the cause.
I am asking others if they have seen this issue. I need to know if it is only on my workstation, or if others are seeing it as well.
Have you ever right-clicked, chose new folder and then had to wait 45 seconds for a new folder to appear.
Then the same thing when you try to rename the new folder, a hang of about 45 seconds before the new name take affect.
Anyway, let me know if you have experienced ths.

    Hi,
I suggest you temporarily uninstall the antivirus program to check the issue. You need to make sure that you have the installation file to reinstall it later.
If it does not work, I suggest you also test the issue in Safe Mode and Clean Boot to determine if this is a hardware or a software issue.
    Good luck!

  • Creating a new folder sometimes drives me wonky

Have any of you found a work around for this: When I'm in the hierarchical view in the finder and want to create a new folder in one of the panes, the OS can make it difficult. If the pane is completely filled with files or folders, when you control click to bring up the context menu, the OS assumes that you want to pick a choice dealing with whatever file you were hovering over at the time.
In order to create a new folder in that pane, I either have to do something wonky like create the folder on the desktop and drag it in, or expand the window to get blank space at the bottom of the file list.
Is there a way to create a folder directly in a filled pane?

You can also right click on the top of a finder window choose customize from the contextual menu & drag the new folder icon to the top of the finder window.
Also click on the action icon (gear icon) & choose new folder from the drop down menu.

  • HT2488 I imported pictures into iPhoto from my iPhone, when trying to find my pictures by clicking on iPhoto Library it is always empty. I had to create a new folder and copy the same exact pics in the new folder just to be able to access them.. help plea

I imported photos into iPhoto from my iPhone, however i cannot access them. When clicking on iPhoto Library where they should be stored the folder is blank but if i open up iphoto from the dock menu they appear. I had to create a new folder just to access them. help please, because making a new folder takes up unnecessary space.

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Mail created a new folder and throws some, not all, of my wife's email there

So my wife had been complaining about trouble finding all her emails after I upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I took a look and saw that in addition to her account (sub-in-box) under Inbox, she had a folder under "On My Mac" with emails there too.  So I moved all the latter emails to her sub-Inbox and then deleted that "on my mac" folder.  Well, that didn't work.  The next day she said she was still having a problem.  Turns out that the "on my mac" folder had come back to life somehow and Mail was sending some, but not all, of her emails there.  There seems to be no sense to it.  Some emails go into her "regular" account (under Inbox) and some into the "on my mac" folder.  Many, but not all, of the latter are "junk" mail.  So she still has to check both folders to see all her mail.  How do I fix this?

Okay, thanks to nobody for their help.  But I figured it out anyway.  Somehow there was a rule which had the "if-then" result of "move to (my wife's name) mailbox" -- so when such an email arrived, Mail would have to create the (previously-deleted) mailbox in order to follow the rule.  So I just deleted that rule.

  • Why can't I creat a new folder in my hard drive?

When I try to create a new folder and error pops up.  It reads: "The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code - 50)."
Does anyone know why this would be happening?

If the name is too long or has characters other than letters, numbers, or the following
then that is likely the issue.

  • Creating a new folder starts up import dialog box...

When I click the plus sign on the folders panel, it takes me to the create folder dialog where I can browse to the location of the new folder.
Sometimes, after clicking OK, LR then starts up the import dialog box with a heap of images to import which I then need to cancel. I should have checked where the images were from but have not thought to do so before this post.
Anyway, is there any functionality in LR that should import images when a new folder is created? I think this happens when I don't have a folder selected...not sure.. away from LR at the moment.
As an aside, I wish you could click the + on the folders panel and LR would create a subfolder at the selected location with the name ready to edit, rather than going to a new dialog and having to browse to the location.

    >"Anyway, is there any functionality in LR that should import images when a new folder is created? I think this happens when I don't have a folder selected...not sure.. away from LR at the moment. "
I can't duplicate this. Whether I have highlighted an existing LR folder or not, clicking the "+" brings up the create folder dialog, I browse to a location and create a subfolder. That folder then becomes a LR folder. If I do have a current LR folder highlighted, the process (or just right clicking on the folder name and choose "Create Folder") brings up the create folder dialog with the current LR folder as the parent. I can create a new folder and it will become a LR subfolder of the highlighted one.
    >"As an aside, I wish you could click the + on the folders panel and LR would create a subfolder at the selected location with the name ready to edit, rather than going to a new dialog and having to browse to the location."
Actually, the new dialog that opens for me (as described above) places me in the selected folder - all I do is click the create folder button in that window and a new subfolder is made. I think the reason LR won't just create a new subfolder without going to a new dialog is that the folders panel lists the "LR folders" which are a parallel universe to the "real folders" on your drive. Perhaps the LR engineers thought that by providing you with the browser/creator dialog, they were giving you more control. Who knows.

  • Creating a new folder using a Database Link

I'm trying to create a new folder from another database with Discoverer Administrator. The schema that I'm using is the same on each database but when I select the other database using the database link, Discoverer Administrator will get all the user accounts on the other database but if that user exists on the default database I will only see the objects owned for that user on the default database. If I select a user that is only on the remote database I will see the objects from the remote database. Is this a Bug? I was able to do this using Disco Admin 9.0.4 and EUL 5.02 on an Oracle 8i database. I just migrated my EUL to an Oracle 10g database using EUL 5.1.1 and Disco Admin 10.1.2.

Yes this a bug, Bug No. 4324352 &Note:459996.1
    You follow this workaround
    After the Folder creation
    1. Choose Folder Properties (right-click on Folder)
    2. Change database from <default database> to <DBLINK>
    Thanks

  • Why not instruct MacOS 10.10 users in creating a new folder to use the wheel icon pull-down menu ...

Your instructions on creating folders aren't correct. for my Mac, saying nothing about having to
    Open the Bookmarks pull-down menu
    Select 'Unsorted Bookmarks'
Go to the top 'Wheel' icon
THEN you can create a new folder, and other good things
Bit of a pain. Otherwise, Firefox is great!

    * Bookmarks created via a click on the star in the location bar are stored by default in the Unsorted Bookmarks folder.
Another click on the blue highlighted star allows to edit the properties and move the bookmark to another folder.
    * Bookmarks created via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" (Ctrl + D) are stored at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder.
In the left pane in the Library (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) there are three folders in the "All Bookmarks" folder:
    * "Bookmarks Toolbar"
    * "Bookmarks Menu"
    * "Unsorted Bookmarks"
You can add new bookmarks to one of those three Bookmarks folders, but you can not create a new folder or add bookmarks at the root level ("All Bookmarks") or remove one of the three root folders.
In the Bookmarks Manager you can also create a new folder via the Organize menu.
In the Bookmarks sidebar (Ctrl+B; Cmd+B on Mac) you can do that via the right-click context menu.
There are three main Bookmarks folders and bookmarks can only be created in one of those folders and its sub folders.
    * The "Bookmarks Toolbar" folder stores the bookmarks that you see on the Bookmarks Toolbar (Firefox > Options or View > Toolbars).
    * The "Bookmarks Menu" folder stores bookmarks that show in the Bookmarks menu and are created via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" or via "Bookmark This Link" in the right-click context menu.
    * The "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder stores bookmarks that are created by clicking the star at the right end of the location bar.

  • I have 2 auxillary disk drives for my MacBokk Pro. Time Machine uses one for backup and I use the other for storage, but I am unable to create a new folder or drag and drop files or folders to the aux drive.

I am unable to create a new folder on either of my auxillary disk drives.  I can access the files and folders that were there when I transferred one of the drives from a PC.  Time machine uses one for backup and I want to use the other to store photos which are large files.  An help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply.  If I reformat the drive will I be able to access the files on it from the MAC.  I do not share the drive with a PC.  The files were originally created on a PC which I no longer use.  I do want to continue to access the files put there by the PC.  I would like to not have to copy them over to the MAC hard drive just to use them.  The second aux drive is new and works fine because it was formatted by the MAC.  I can drag and drop files there and work with just as if they were on the internal drive.

  • In Mavericks, every time I try to create a new folder on the drive I  get a prompt for my password. I checked Get Info on the main drive and under Sharing

I got a new 27" iMac with 10.8.5 and migrated a 10.6.8 system and files.  It was working fine. After about 2 weeks I was looking at the Sharing & Permissions and saw an account "wheel".  I mistakenly (I NOW know it was a mistake) changed the permission to no access and subsiquenty could not boot the computer. I had an older iMac so I built a boot disk with the Mavericks installer on it. Booted the computer and restored from a Time Machine backup previous to the change of permissions of the "wheel" account. I went ahead and did a clean install of Mavericks
The computer is now running with Mavericks installed and I am rebuilding.  When I go to create a new folder on the system drive I get prompted for a pasword.
When I checked the permissions and sharing on the main drive it tells me "you can only read".
I am logged in with an admin account. I have run Disk Utiltiy and Tech Tool Pro's  permission verify and repair. Given what happend last time I changed permissions I am reluctant to make any changes.
Anyone have an idea as to what I should do.
    Thanks in advance.
