Creating a portlet with JDeveloper

Does anyone know of any documentation to help me create a portlet in JDeveloper 9.0.2.7.97 for deployment in production Oracle Portal 9.0.2.0.1 (I am assuming a OC4J of 9.0.2). All of the documentation that I find is IDE independent, but I need to know the right directory structure for JDeveloper. Thanks, Scott

Chapter 5 in the Oracle Application Server Portal Developer's Guide [PDF] covers portlet creation in JDeveloper:
http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/DOCTEAM/902DOC/904_DOC_BUILDING_PORTLETS/B13922_01.PDF
You can download container and plugin from WSRP and JSR 168 Standards page on OTN:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/standards.html
Note that the addin for jdev 9.0.5.x covers both JSR168 and JPDK portlets.
You don't have to download the JSR168 container if you just want to build JPDK portlets.

  • How to create Application Workspace with Jdeveloper 10g 1.3.2?

Following the instructions in "Developing and Using ADF Faces Skins", I am trying to create an Application Workspace.
The instruction says: "In JDeveloper, create a new Application workspace and name it - ADFFaces_skin_sample"
I can not find the way to create Application workspace with Jdeveloper 10g 1.3.2.
Because when I click FILE==>New I got "New Gallery--Application" in left, in right only got "Application, Empty project, File, Java Class, Java Interface". There is no "workspace" item.
I try to use Jdeveloper 10g 1.3.1, got same result.
I found other ADF Skin training samples. All of them asked to create Application Workspace. But the Jdeveloper version used by all those samples were earlier than 10g 10.1.3.2
Please let know how to create "Application Workspace"?

What used to be "Application Workspace" in 10.1.2 is "Application" in 10.1.3.2

  • How to create a portlet in Jdeveloper and consume it in webcenter spaces

    Hello all,
I need to create a portlet in which i will be passing the parameterized url and it will go on hit the third party application. After doing that i have to consume it in webcenter spaces where user can directly add that porlet and can do all his work of third party from webcenter spaces itself.
Can anyone tell me how to make portlets and what all we need in Jdeveloper for creating the portlet. As well as i need some reference guide which let me help to create the portlets as well as consuming in webcenter spaces.
    Please Help !!!
    Thanks...

Are you trying to expose an existing system inside of WCS?
If this is the case, you should investigate "External Applications":
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/webcenter.1111/e10149/config_svcs_prod_extapp.htm#WCSUG6698
This is an out of the box way of embedding external systems, with seperate login pages etc. I think this will achieve what you are trying to do yourself. It even allows for parameterised URLs

  • Create LifeRay portlet in JDeveloper 11g

    Hi...
I want to create LifeRay JSF portlets using JDeveloper 11g is there any plugin or any tutorial which guides in this process?
    Thanks
    Feras

Well, in JDeveloper 11g, you can install the Webcenter design-time extension via help->check for updates (Oracle Webcenter Framework and Services Design Time)
Once you've installed that, you can create JSR-168 portlets using JDeveloper as documented [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/webcenter.1111/e10148/jpsdg_java_intro.htm#CEGDCAEE]here.
Nothing specific for LifeRay, though. If you have specific questions, you would probably have better luck on the Webcenter forum.

  • How to create one portlet with more apps

    Hi,
How to create 10 application with one portlet on OC4J? Anybody has experience? Care to share with me.
    Thank you.

    Hi
If you are writing application logic using JPDK or PDK, you can implement the logic/code for 1 application or 100 applications/functionality in one portlet.
Where as if you have per application you have 1 portlet you can have modularity, can be added to Portal page's portlet region where ever you want to.portlet provider(Web provider or Pl/sql provider) can contain multiple portlets.
If you go with 100 applications rendering in one portlet you need to implement 100 applications logic/code in 1 portlet, you can parameterize the portelt to show which applications can be shown at run time, for this you need to implement parameterization logic in portlet code. I can say this approach is cumbersome

  • Creating local interfaces with JDeveloper (release 2)

    Hi
Maybe I'm missing something here, but how does one create a local- and a local-home interface with JDeveloper? It only seems to give me the option to create a remote- and a home interface.
I've tried creating the local interfaces by hand and then adding them as <ejb-local-ref> references in the ejb-jar.xml deployment descriptor, but I get the message "local/local-home tag not supported in this version" when trying to test the code with the Embedded OC4J Server.
Now, I've managed to create EJB 2.0-style CMP entity beans by modifying the code and deployment descriptors a little, which made me believe that EJB 2.0 is supported, but that seems to be where it stops.
Am I doing something wrong, or is EJB 2.0 not fully implemented in the Embedded OC4J Server yet?
    Hope you can help
    Christof

JDeveloper 9.0.2 doesn't have support for local interfaces or any EJB 2.0 features.
Next release of JDeveloper (9.0.3) will have complete support of J2EE 1.3 features including EJB 2.0.
This release is slated for this summer (2002)

  • Creating Java Portlets without JDeveloper

I am using Oracle AS 10g, and Portal. I have looked at the Portal Dev Guide (9.0.4), and have not found any information on how to create and deploy Java portlets without the use of JDeveloper. I was able to do this using earlier versions of Portal and JPDK.
Does anyone know of any documentation that could help me with this? Thanks.

I think this is the article you're looking for: Packaging and Deploying Your Providers.

  • How to create a stand alone app with Jdeveloper?

    Hi,
I have a created an application with JDeveloper using the ADF framework. It's a simple frontend to some database tables giving the user the possibility to create and update records.
Is it possible to create a stand-alone application from JDeveloper without having to install any application server? I have tried to follow the documentation but somehow I only find descriptions of web enabled applications.
That's not what I want. I want a (windows) application that can 'talk' to the database. Would be great to have just a .jar file to deploy to the users computer.
Is this possible with JDeveloper? Or am I totally wrong?
    Thanks for any help!
    Bruno

    You don't need an OC4J.
You just need to make sure the ADF libraries you are using are on the classpath of your application. (Your default JAR won't contain them).
Have a look at the command line that JDeveloper uses to run your project (it is in the log file) - copy paste this into a command line and you should be able to run your code from outside JDeveloper.
Read more on this in the online help under the deployment to JAR file chapter and possibly the webstart part.

  • How can i create a view with jdevlopper 10132

    hi,
i want to know how to create a view with JDeveloper 10132.
    thanks

Sorry, but I had to jump in here.
7rouz - you've certainly violated the 10 commandments for posting here...
    Do you want to:
1). Create a database view directly in the database
2). Model a database view using the database modeller
3). Create an ADF BC View Object
4). Create some type of visual object (web page, Swing panel)
    5). something else.
Your question is too ambiguous to yield an answer, unless by luck.

    John

  • [Error running JSP portlet in JDeveloper

I'm writing a JSP portlet with JDeveloper 9.0.3.
The "index.jsp" works OK, and I can see the registration URL for my new provider.
I deploy the application to Oracle9iAS 9.0.2.0.1 Application Server succesfully throught DCM servlet, register the new provier and I can run the portlet succesfully.
But if I try to run the "pasa_parametroShowPage.jsp" inside the Jdeveloper, I get an HTTP 500 Error :
    java.lang.NullPointerException
         void htdocs.pasa__parametro._pasa__parametroShowPage._jspService(javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest, javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse)
         [htdocs/pasa_parametro/pasa_parametroShowPage.jsp]
              pasa_parametroShowPage.jsp:12
    Line 12 is:
    Hello <%= pReq.getUser().getName() %>
    Thanks in advance.

In order to successfully run, "pasa_parametroShowPage.jsp" must be called in a portal context - JDeveloper does not do this.
Therefore, when called from JDeveloper, the PortletRenderRequest object is not present, hance the null pointer exception.
You shouldn't attempt to run this JSP directly from with in jdev. You'll notice that if you point a browser directly at that JSP, you will get the same null pointer exception.
If you need to debug this JSP in jdev, you can use a portal instance **or** the test harness (http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/PDK/TESTSUITE/PDKTEST/PDKTEST.ZIP)
to fire http requests at JDeveloper's embedded OC4J.

  • Intergrating with JDeveloper

    Hi guys,
Has anyone tried to intergrate Portlets with JDeveloper? Meaning running Portlets inside JDeveloper. Thanks.

    Howard,
We do have an article in the PDK, called Building Portlets using Oracle9i JDeveloper. This article describes how to use JDeveloper to build portlets. There is currently no documentation on display or running portlets from within JDeveloper.
As long as you have the pdk classes in your library, you should be able to compile your code, but there is often information such as the 'portal user' that the portlets need from Oracle9iAS Portal and these type of thing would prevent JDeveloper (currently) from running your portlets.
If you have portlets that do not require specific information from the portal, it may work, but otherwise, JDeveloper currently does not simulate portal calls.
If you have access to the internet you can test your portlets using Oracle9iAS Portal Studio. This is a hosted portal to display and test portlets.
If your web provider machine does not have access to the internet, you can try the Oracle9iAS Portal Studio test suite to do this if you want. The test suite simulates portal calls to the portlet and displays your portlets and also provides a sanity check on your portlet without installing Oracle9iAS Portal or having a network connection to the internet from your provider machine.

The OracleAS Portal is also required to deploy JSF Portlets. To Develop and deploy a JSF Portlet:
    1. Install the OracleAS application server.
    2. Install the portlet container.
    3. Install the OracleAS Portal Extension.
    4. Generate Portlet with Portal Extension in JDeveloper
    5. Connect to application server.
    6. Deploy Portlet to Application Server.
    7. Install OracleAS Portal
    8. Register Portlet with OracleAS Portal.
    9. View Portlet in OracleAS Portal.
    10. Add Portlet to a page.

    Hi All,
Im newbie ,I am unable to follow the steps in creating struts portlet on using Oracle portal developers guide in Jdeveloper 11g .can any one tell me the step by step procedure of creating struts portlet or any other related links.
FYI:I stuck up in the guide which didn't explain how to create struts-config.xml( and its structure) and also how to create view and page flow .
In the book they gave as :"To create a new view, first create a new set of ActionMappings (page flow) that will redirect the various actions and requests to Portal-specific JSPs. "
Please help me on this, Thanks in Advance,

    You are mixing versions.
JDev 11g needs the 11g SOA version (download from here )or use JDev10g together with Oracle SOA Suite 10.1.3.1.0

  • Registering Discoverer Portlet Provider with JDeveloper WebCenter

Is it possible to register DPP with JDeveloper? What kind of portlet producer is DPP, WSRP or Oracle PDK? Can anyone tell me the specific steps (i.e., what to fill in for the URL, subscriber ID, etc.)?
    Thanks,
    -warren

You might want to ask this on the Discoverer forum.
It depends on the type of portlet DPP is - JDeveloper can register both WSRP and PDK portlets.
