Creating a table with a variable number of columns

Hi,
I am working on a form and I want to allow the user to add tables to the form. If I give them a base table (for instance, a table with two rows and columns) is there any way to allow the user to add columns to the table. I can add new instances of rows, but I need the number of columns to be variable as well.
I am working in Livecycle Designer ES2

Hi,
check this article.

Hope this helps.

    How to generate report with dynamic variable number of columns?
    I need to generate a report with varying column names (state names) as follows:
    SELECT AK, AL, AR,... FROM States ;
    I get these column names from the result of another query.
    In order to clarify my question, Please consider following table:
    CREATE TABLE TIME_PERIODS (
    PERIOD     VARCHAR2 (50) PRIMARY KEY
    CREATE TABLE STATE_INCOME (
         NAME     VARCHAR2 (2),
         PERIOD     VARCHAR2 (50)     REFERENCES TIME_PERIODS (PERIOD) ,
         INCOME     NUMBER (12, 2)
    I like to generate a report as follows:
    AK CA DE FL ...
    PERIOD1 1222.23 2423.20 232.33 345.21
    PERIOD2
    PERIOD3
    Total 433242.23 56744.34 8872.21 2324.23 ...
    The TIME_PERIODS.Period and State.Name could change dynamically.
    So I can't specify the state name in Select query like
    SELECT AK, AL, AR,... FROM
    What is the best way to generate this report?

  • How to create a table with a variable

    Hi everyone!
    I have a procedure which receives a table name as a parameter and need to create a table using that name
    For example:
    PROCEDURE REFRESH_REPORTS (table_name varchar2) IS
    BEGIN
    table_name_REPORT := table_name;
    execute immediate 'create table table_name_REPORT .....
    But I don't get this working. I am just adding this procedure as a part of a package which is used for web/online reports.
    Could someone guide me on how I could create this table?
    I was getting errors like invalid table name and I even tried to use a variable which stores the entire sql statement and concatenated with the table name's variable but still that was not working.
    Thank You so much in advance.

    Thank You so much for the valuable feedback.
    My agency requires some reports to be generated at a certain interval, after a certain type of batch load. A few different types of reports will be generated and usually we have scripts which we run to generate the necessary tables and extract the reports from there. We retain the tables for verification purpose as it stores some valuable status of some customers and so on, which we will not be able to generate again easily. The table will have around 50,000 - 100,000 records averagely. Sometimes more.
    I am automating the process now as per client's request.
    So, I thought of using the same script to automate it in the web. For table name we usually changed them manually.
    Now, when the user runs, he or she have to give them table name/ report name.
    I thought of concatinating the sysdate and report name but what if there is a problem and the user runs it for a second time?
    Unless I have a separate part of the coding to take care of this issue.
    Please advice if there is an alternative.
    Thank You Very Much.
    Cheers!
    NithyaSo why is it necessary to create a table just to create a report?
    You really, really need to rethink this entire process from the beginning, not just try to shoehorn in something from a current, astoundingly bad, design.

  • How to clone data with in Table with dynamic 'n' number of columns

    Hi All,
    I've a table with syntax,
    create table Temp (id number primary key, name varchar2(10), partner varchar2(10), info varchar2(20));
    And with data like
    insert itno temp values (sequence.nextval, 'test', 'p1', 'info for p1');
    insert into temp values (sequence.nextval, 'test', 'p2', 'info for p2');
    And now, i need to clone the data in TEMP table of name 'test' for new name 'test1' and here is my script,
    insert into Temp  select sequence.nextval id, 'test1' name, partner, info from TEMP where name='test1';
    this query executed successfully and able to insert records.
    The PROBLEM is,
    if some new columns added in TEMP table, need to update this query.
    How to clone the data with in the table for *'n' number of columns and*
    some columns with dynamic data and remaining columns as source data.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
    My Scenario, is we have a Game Details table. When ever some Game get cloned, we need to add new records in to that Table for the new Game.
    As, the id will be primary key, this should populate from a Sequence (in our system, we used this) and Game Name will be new Game Name. And data for other columns should be same as Parent Game.
    when ever business needs changes, there will be some addition of new columns in Table.
    And with the existing query,
    insert into Temp (id, name, partner, info) select sequence.nextval id, 'test1' name, partner, info from TEMP where name='test'_
    will successfully add new rows but new added columns will have empty data.
    so, is there any way to do this, i mean, some columns with sequence values and other columns with existing values.
    One way, we can do is, get ResultSet MetaData (i'm using Java), and parse the columns. prepare a query in required format.
    I'm looking for alternative ways in query format in SQL.
    Thanks & Regards
    PavanPinnu.

  • How to create a table with a dynamic amount of columns

    Hi, all!
    Thare is a tutorial at javaFX documentation page. This example describes how to make tableView, if you have some certain java class, which can tell you which columns you are going to have. (That is a Person class in this example).
    But what if i do not have any specific class, and number of columns can vary from time to time? In my case i have such data structure:
    class TableData{
        List<Row> rows; //A list with all my rows i need to have in my table
    class Row{
        List<Column> columns; //Cells\Columns for every row.
    class Column{
        Attribute attr; //Each column - is somethig like a wrapper for the real data i need to show in a cell;
    class Attribute{ //My precues data
        String name;
        SupportingInfo info;
    class SupportingInfo{//Some supporting fields...
        String name;
        String value;
        //...etc....
    }So, my case is very similar to [this one|http://blog.ngopal.com.np/2011/10/19/dyanmic-tableview-data-from-database/] . The only differents is that data from the case above is not binded with its representation in javaFX table (so, even if some one will make extra controls to edit this data in a tableView, the actual object with that data will never know about it.), because it(data) goes to the table like some strings, not like some objects;
    So, what do i need - is to push data to the table (like that: table.setItems(tableData)), set some set Factories, to give user ability to edit data, and to have this edited data in my tableData object;
    Here are some code i've tried to make for this purpose:
    //prepare my table
    private void createTableHeader(TableView table, List<Attribute> ias) {
        int i = 0;
        for (final Attribute ia : ias) {
            final int j = i;
            i++;
            TableColumn tc = new TableColumn(ia.getName());
            tc.setSortable(true);
            tc.setCellValueFactory(new Callback<CellDataFeatures<List<Attribute>, String>, ObservableValue<String>>() {
                @Override
                public ObservableValue<String> call(CellDataFeatures<List<Attribute>, String> arg0) {
                    if(arg0.getValue().get(j).getSupportingInfo() == null){
                        arg0.getValue().get(j).setSupportingInfo(new SupportingInfo());
                    return new SimpleObjectProperty(arg0.getValue().get(j),"value");
            table.getColumns().add(tc);
    //loading some data to my tableView
    private void createTableBody(TableView curTable, List<Row> rows) {
        ObservableList<List<Attribute>> data = FXCollections.observableArrayList();
        for (Row row : rows) {
            data.add(row.getColumns());
        curTable.setItems(data);
    //this one is to define some extra controls for editing data in a table by users
    private void makeCellFactory(TableColumn curTableCol, final Attribute templateIa, final Document doc) {
        curTableCol.setCellFactory(new Callback<TableColumn, TableCell>() {
            public TableCell call(TableColumn p) {
                final EditingCell cell = new EditingCell(templateIa, doc);
                return cell;
    }But, as a result, i have just empty rows in my table, with an ability to click some cell and recieve table editing controls. But there is not defult values in by table; What am i doing wrong in my code?

    I put an example up on this thread No DataGrid component? with a TableView displaying values from a non-JavaFX aware data model. It might help get you started. This example is not editable, to make your table editable you would need to update the data model directly when editing is complete.
    Note that if you're building the data model from scratch, there's no need for the listener-notification to be built by hand, as I did in the example. Your data model can directly use the same JavaFX collections instances the table is using.

  • Pivot table with very large number of columns

    Hello,
    here is the situation:
    One table that contains raw data; from this table I feed one with extract information (3 fields); I have to turn the content in a pivot table
    Ro --- Co --- Va
    A A 1
    A B 1
    A C 2
    B A 11
    Turned in
    A B C...
    A 1 1 2
    B 11 null null
    To do this I do a query like:
    select r, sum(decode(c,'A',Va) COLA, sum(decode(c,'B',Va) COLB , sum(decode(c,'C',Va) COLC,.... sum(decode(c,'XYZ',Va) COLXYZ from table group by r
    The statement is generated by a script (cfmx) and it works until I reach a query that try to have 672 values for c; which means 672 columns...
    Oracle doesn't like that: ORA-01467: sort key too long
    I like this way has it is getting the result fast.
    I have tried different solution a the CFMX level with for that specific query, I got timeout (query table with loop on co within loop on ro)
    Is there any work around?
    I am using Oracle 9i.
    Tahnk you!

    insert into extracted_data select c, r, v, p from full_data where <specific_clause>
    The values for C are from a query: select disctinct c from extracted_data
    and it is the same for R
    R and C are varchar2(3999)
    I suppose that I can split on the first letter of the C column as:
    SELECT r, low.cola, low.colb, . . ., low.colm,
    high.coln, high.colo, . . ., high.colz
    FROM (SELECT r, SUM(DECODE(c, 'A', va)) cola, . . .
    SUM(DECODE(c, 'M', va)) colm
    FROM table
    WHERE c like 'A%'
    GROUP BY r) Alpha_A,
    (SELECT r, SUM(DECODE(c, 'N', va)) coln, . . .
    SUM(DECODE(c, 'Z', va)) colz
    FROM table
    WHERE c like 'B%'
    GROUP BY r) Alpha_B,
    (SELECT r, SUM(DECODE(c, 'N', va)) coln, . . .
    SUM(DECODE(c, 'Z', va)) colz
    FROM table
    WHERE c like 'C%'
    GROUP BY r) Alpha_C
    (SELECT r, SUM(DECODE(c, 'zN', va)) coln, . . .
    SUM(DECODE(c, 'zZ', va)) colz
    FROM table
    WHERE c like 'Z%'
    GROUP BY r) Alpha_Z
    WHERE alpha_A.r = alpha_B.r and apha_a.r = alpha_C.r ... and alpha_a.r = alpha_z.r
    I will have 27 select statement joined... I have to check if even like that I will not reach the limit within one of the statement select
    "in real life"
    select GRPW.r, GRPW.W0, GRPC.C0, GRPC.C1 from
    (select r, sum(decode(C, 'Wall, unspecified',cases)) W0 from tmp_maqueje where upper(C) like 'W%' group by r) GRPW,

  • Display table with variable number of columns

    Hello Forum,
    I'm trying to build an export view of User Management Engine data. I would like to output a table with one row for every user with yes / no fields indicating membership in each of the available groups. Because the number of available groups might change in the future, I can't hardcode the column names for the groups.
    That is, I call a webservice to compute a table, and I get back a table with a variable number of columns.
    When I try to insert the webservice into my VC model, it complains:
    "Port 'Response' was omitted because it includes nested tables, which are not presently supported by Visual Composer"
    You might be interested to know that the business method of my webservice (for testing purposes) looks as follows:
    public String[][] getVariableSizeArray() {
            String[][] ret = new String[10][];
            for (int i = 1; i <= 10; i++) {
                    ret<i> = new String[10];
                    for (int j = 1; j <= 10; j++) {
                            ret<i>[j] = Integer.toString(i * j);
            return ret;
    Any help is appreciated, and points will be awarded for helpful answers,
    Sincerely,
    Florian

    Hi Florian,
    dynamic data structures are not supported. You can do this with a workaround. If you know the maximum count of your columns then you can add them to the table and hide/unhide them dynamicly via a formula in the hidden condition. Of course in your WS you als need a fix structure of your columns.
    This is not the best solution, I know so far, but it works. This is just one limit of VC.
    Best Regards,
    Marcel

  • Dynamically creating oracle table with csv file as source

    Hi,
    We have a requirment..TO create a dynamic external table.. Whenever the data or number of columns change in the CSV file the table should be replaced with current data and current number of columns...as we are naive experienced people in oracle please give us a clear solution.. We have tried with a code already ..But getting some errors. Code given below..
    thank you
    we have executed this code by changing the schema name and table name ..Remaining everything same ...
    Assume the following:
    - Oracle User and Schema name is ALLEXPERTS
    - Database name is EXPERTS
    - The directory object is file_dir
    - CSV file directory is /export/home/log
    - The csv file name is ALLEXPERTS_CSV.log
    - The table name is all_experts_tbl
    1. Create a directory object in Oracle. The directory will point to the directory where the file located.
    conn sys/{password}@EXPERTS as sysdba;
    CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY file_dir AS '/export/home/log';
    2. Grant the directory privilege to the user
    GRANT READ ON DIRECTORY file_dir TO ALLEXPERTS;
    3. Create the table
    Connect as ALLEXPERTS user
    create table ALLEXPERTS.all_experts_tbl
    (txt_line varchar2(512))
    organization external
    (type ORACLE_LOADER
    default directory file_dir
    access parameters (records delimited by newline
    fields
    (txt_line char(512)))
    location ('ALLEXPERTS_CSV.log')
    This will create a table that links the data to a file. Now you can treat this file as a regular table where you can use SELECT statement to retrieve the data.
    PL/SQL to create the data (PSEUDO code)
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE new_proc IS
    -- Setup the cursor
    CURSOR c_main IS SELECT *
    FROM allexperts.all_experts_tbl;
    CURSOR c_first_row IS ALLEXPERTS_CSV.logSELECT *
    FROM allexperts.all_experts_tbl

    l_temp_counter := l_temp_counter + 1;
    IF l_temp_counter <=l_delimiter_count THEN
    l_create_statement := l_create_statement || ',';
    END IF;
    END;
    l_create_statement := l_create_statement || ')';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE l_create_statement;
    -- Open the c_main to parse all the rows and insert into the table
    WHILE rec IN c_main
    LOOP
    -- Loop thru all the records and parse them
    -- Insert the data into the table created above
    END LOOP;

    The initial table is showing errors and the procedure is created with compilation errors
    After executing the create table i am getting the following errors
    ERROR at line 1:

  • How to create a table with these dimensions?

    Still new to Indesign but I need to create a table like the one below.
    Selecting the text tool, I created a text frame and then inserted a table. However, I am lost as to how to edit the top row to be the length of the bottom two columns.
    I looked at the tables panel options but it only allows me to edit the number of rows and columns.
    Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

    You have to create a table with two rows and two columns.
    Than select first row and clic "merge cells"

  • How to create a table with varied number of columns?

    I am trying to create a balance table. The colunms should include years between the start year and end year the user will input at run time. The rows will be the customers with outstanding balance in those years.
    If the user input years 2000 and 2002, the table should have columns 2000, 2001, 2002. But if the user input 2000 and 2001, the table will only have columns 2000 and 2001.
    Can I do it? How? Thanka a lot.

    Why did you create a new thread for this?

  • Create n tables with different number names

    Hi guys, I work with SQL Server 2008 and OS Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bits. I have to create 10 tables with different names e.g. 'Image1', 'Image2', and so on. For this goal, I use a loop and concatenation. Here is the code:
    DECLARE @i INT
    DECLARE @v_table_n CHAR
    SET @i=1
    SET @v_table_n='Image'
    WHILE (@i<=10)
    BEGIN
        DECLARE @STR VARCHAR(100)
           SET @STR = 'CREATE TABLE SQL_DB_Filestream.dbo.Image1' + @v_table_n + CAST(@i AS VARCHAR(10)) + ' (
           [ID_RowFeatVec] INTEGER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
           [CF1] FLOAT,
           [CF2] FLOAT,
           [CF3] FLOAT
           EXECUTE @STR
        SET @i = @i + 1;
    END
    GO
    As a result, an error message appears:
    "The name 'CREATE TABLE SQL_DB_Filestream.dbo.Image1I1 (
        [ID_RowFeatVec] INTEGER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY' is not a valid identifier."
    I have tried a lot of versions but it doesn't work.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Best wishes

    1) An SQL Programmer would write ten CREATE TABLE statements. Are you old enough to know about Rube Goldberg? He was a cartoonist who invented inanely complex device for simple task!
    2) Ten identical tables is a huge design flaw. It is so awful I want to use it in one of my books. Tables are sets. A set is completed whole, or as Cantor said “a many that is treated as a one” (it sounds cool in German or Esperanto).
    3) We hate loops in SQL. This is a declarative language. I will bet you have no idea what that means.
    What you want to do is mimic a magnetic tape file system from the 1950's. We used to put a label on the tapes based on the date or a sequence number. Not a completed whole.

  • How to create a table with auto number?

    I want to create a table with a column default to increasing integer. The first thought came up to me is to use sequence. I find in google the following create statement create table etl_stats1 (run_time date,arr_rows int,lid int default nextval('etl_req'));get ORA-04044: procedure, function, package, or type is not allowed here.
    There are threads metioned using trigger to do the job. But does what not support default to a sequence, it appears such a nature way.

    You need to create a sequence and a trigger:
    SQL> create table etl_stats1 (run_time date,arr_rows int,lid int)
      2  /
    Table created.
    SQL> create sequence etl_seq;
    Sequence created.
    SQL> create or replace
      2    trigger etl_stats1_bir
      3    before insert
      4    on etl_stats1
      5    for each row
      6    begin
      7        select etl_seq.nextval into :new.lid from dual;
      8  end;

    Trigger created.
    SQL> insert into etl_stats1 (run_time,arr_rows) values(sysdate,99)

  • UiXML tables - variable number of columns?

    I'm trying to define a <table> in a UIX page which will be generated from a set of parameters. This set of parameters will result in a varying number of columns so I'm looking at providing a DataObjectList which has DataObjects with keys for each of the columns attributes (header text, name of control, value of control etc.). I want to do something similar to <contents data:childData=...> on the <table> contents but this doesn't seem to work. It seems that <table> needs you to know how many columns will be present - is that so or is there some way I can do this?
    Cheers
    Ian

    Ian,
    That is correct, the uiMXL <table> element cannot currently support
    a variable number of columns (using something akin to the
    childData support in other contexts). But there are two approaches
    to get what you want.
    If you know the range of possible columns, then you can add a <column>
    element for each possible column in the <table>'s contents and then
    databind the rendered flag of the column element to hide/show the
    column as necessary.
    However, the real solution to your scenario, where the number of columns
    is completely unknown when you're designing the page, is our canonical
    example of a time you should write Java code for a portion of your page.
    Specifically, you can use the XML <include> element to refer to a
    DataProvider that will programatically create a TableBean. This
    technique is discussed in the Dynamic Structure for UIX pages
    portion of the UIX Developer's Guide.

    Before insert the V_NAME filed, i will be appending a VARCHAR field to the original data.
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'CREATE TABLE TEMP_TABLE (UNIQUE_KEY NUMBER , FILE_NAME VARCHAR2(1000), LAST_DATE DATE)';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'INSERT INTO TEMP_TABLE values (SEQUENCE.nextval,:1,:2)' USING V_NAME,vLastDate;What exactly i need is to eliminate the INSERT portion of it,Since i have to insert more 90,000 rows into it. Is there way to have the temp table created with data in it along with the sequence value as well.
    I'm using Oracle 10.2.0.4 version.
    Edited by: 903948 on Dec 22, 2011 10:58 PMWhat you need to do to eliminate the INSERT statement is to -- as already suggested by others - eliminate the temporary table. You don't need it. It is just necessary overhead. Please explain why you (apparently) believe that the suggestion of a view will not meet your requirements.
