Creating Database independent Export
Hello,
Usually standard export available from SAP is platform independent, OS as well as Database.
When we export any system using sapinst, it asks for the target database and only the directory with selected target data is filled with data. Whereas in standard SAP export all database directories are filled with data.
Is there a way to export the system which can be used to import on any database platform, how ?
Thanks & Regards,
Kashyap Shah

Actually it doesn't matter whether you choose big or little endian. If you choose the actual target platform R3load doesn't need to convert during import --> saving time.
You can, however, import an export for little endian on a big endian platform and vice versa.
And it's not necessary to run the export several times for each database, the files are identical. You just have to make sure you have the .EXT files for the necessary databases. I would run the export once with a certain number of split tables completely. For all other databases I'd start sapinst and run it until the export starts (with the identical number of split tables etc.) - then stop sapinst and merge the content of the directories.

How to create database link between 2 servers to exports schemas
Could any one please give Steps to create database link between 2 servers (linux) to exports schemas like AR, INV, GL.......etc
Hi Mouni,
As i suggest above, please use the REMAP_SCHEMA parameter, so that you can create those objects which are getting created in the Apps Schema in the XBSI schema, I have already provided the syntax above.
ORA-31684: Object type VIEW:"XBSI"."XBSI_ORDER_LINE_INFO_V" already exists
ORA-31684: Object type VIEW:"XBSI"."XBSI_SERIAL_NO_V" already exists
ORA-31684: Object type VIEW:"XBSI"."XBSI_ONHAND_BALANCES" already exists
ORA-31684: Object type VIEW:"XBSI"."XBSI_PURCHASE_ORDERS" already exists
ORA-31684: Object type VIEW:"XBSI"."XBSI_ORDER_HEADER_INFO_V" already exists
ORA-31684: Object type VIEW:"XBSI"."XBSI_ORGANIZATION_ITEMS" already exists
ORA-31684: Object type VIEW:"XBSI"."XBSI_PE_FIND_RESULT" already exists
You are facing these errors as you have already done the import, and when you try to re-import it says those objects are already available. If this fresh import, Please drop the the new user you have already created in the Datawarehouse instance, and recreate the User and start a fresh import.
Hope this help!

What is an "export give steps?"
If ur's database crashes, how is it u's responsibility to restore it?
Now, if my database crashes, I just restart it in crash recovery mode and not even worry about the backup or export. It is not needed. -
Can't create database using ASM (SOLVED)
Hi all
I'm trying to use ASM for the first time, on Oracle 10.2.0.1 on Solaris x64.
I have installed the ASM instance into /opt/oracle/asm/10.2.0 and created disk groups. I have cssd running OK. I am able to start and stop the ASM instance without problems, and I can select from v$asm_diskgroup to confirm that disks are mounted OK.
I have then installed Oracle EE separately into /opt/oracle/server/10.2.0. I first did a software only install, and now I am trying to create a DB.
The problems come when I try to use this ASM instance to host a new database. I first tried to use DBCA to create a new database, but on database creation I got the following errors:
ORA-00200: control file could not be created
ORA-00202: control file: '+DBLIVE1'
ORA-17502: ksfdcre:4 Failed to create file +DBLIVE1
ORA-15001: diskgroup "DBLIVE1" does not exist or is not mounted
ORA-15055: Message 15055 not found; No message file for product=RDBMS, facility=ORA
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
I then told DBCA just to create the DB creation scripts, and I tried manually running these with SQL*Plus.
When doing it with SQL*PLus, I initially got the same error as shown above. But then something changed (sorry, not sure what), and now the error I get is:
CREATE DATABASE "NEONREL1"
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed
ORA-00349: failure obtaining block size for '+DBLIVE1'
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
I've put some debug info below, showing me succesfully connecting to the ASM instance and then attempting to create the DB using the db creation scripts, showing the error at the end. You can see that the oracle OS user is able to connect fine to ASM, then I swithc ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME to the EE install and try to create the DB, at which point it apparently can't connect to ASM any more.
I've tried the DB creation many times, and in between attempts I completely empty $ORACLE_HOME/admin/<dbname> and delete the files related to the attempted install from $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/ . I've also stopping/starting ASM, rebooting, and I've done the install of ASM and EE a couple of times over in case I made any mistakes in my earlier attempts.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Tom

tjobbinsUpdate: I've worked out the difference between the two sets of errors I get.
The basic error is this:
ORA-00200: control file could not be created
ORA-00202: control file: '+DBLIVE1'
ORA-17502: ksfdcre:4 Failed to create file +DBLIVE1
ORA-15001: diskgroup "DBLIVE1" does not exist or is not mounted
ORA-15055: Message 15055 not found; No message file for product=RDBMS, facility=ORA
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
However if my init.ora contains the line:
control_files=/opt/oracle/server/10.2.0/dbs/cntrlNEONREL1.dbf
then I instead get the second error:
CREATE DATABASE "NEONREL1"
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed
ORA-00349: failure obtaining block size for '+DBLIVE1'
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
So basically these must be the same error, just in the second case I'm not trying to put the control file on the ASM so it fails at a different point.
But both errors must be because of the same cause, I suppose. -

I want the imp utility to ignore create tablespace command.I did give the IGNORE=Y on the imp command.
If i give fromuser,touser i can import but that does not go along with full=y.I have to do it table by table.It has also got sequences,types,synonyms etc

Database independant ETL in ODI for SQL Server and Oracle
Hi,
We have a requirement to create ETL which can be run for both SQL Server and Oracle.
We have some tables to be filled from operational database to data warehouse using business requirement.Our goal is to create code which should be database independant.
We will provide all DB details at the start of execution and it will code for as per provided details.
The same can be achieved by Talend.
I wanted to know if same can be achieved in ODI.
Any pointers regarding this would be helpful.
Thanks,
MaheshA quick trick: Provide one more value at the start of execution. It is something like a flag. For example db_flag. It can be either 'O' or 'S'.
Open both oracle and sql server KM. Copy one of the KM code to other KM and put an if condition to check the flag.
if (#DB_FLAG.equalsTo("O")){
Oracle code goes here...........
}else{
SQL Server code goes here...........
Its a pure KM customization.

Hi all,
I have installed Oracle 11gr2 on Linux machine
Now i need to create Database without DBCA.... can anyone help me
plZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZHii
Follow the below steps (say database name "prima")
1.) create pfile some thing like this
$ cat skripte/initprima.ora
compatible=11.2.0.2
db_block_size=8192
db_name='prima'
db_create_file_dest='/u01/app/oracle/oradata'
db_recovery_file_dest='/u02/fra'
db_recovery_file_dest_size=2g
memory_target=640m
undo_management=auto
undo_tablespace=undotbs1
db_domain=''
diagnostic_dest='/u01/app/oracle/diag'
Notice the absence of the parameter CONTROL_FILES. Now look how the two parameters make it easy for me to create my Database with mirrored Control- and Online Logfiles:
2.) create the password file
3.) connect as
$ export ORACLE_SID=prima
$ sqlplus / as sysdba
Connected to an idle instance.
SQL> create spfile from pfile='/home/oracle/skripte/initprima.ora';
File created.
SQL> startup nomount
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 668082176 bytes
Fixed Size 2229480 bytes
Variable Size 398461720 bytes
Database Buffers 264241152 bytes
Redo Buffers 3149824 bytes
SQL> create database undo tablespace undotbs1
default tablespace users
default temporary tablespace temp
character set al32utf8;
Database created.
That was it already and it took less than a minute. Some more minutes will it take to run catalog & catproc, though. Let’s investigate the new Database:
SQL> select status from v$instance;
STATUS
OPEN

Everyone can teach me how to do that ?
tks a lot

Are there performancebenefits to reorganizing database-using export/import?
I have a production database using Oracle 9.2.0.5, which has been running for last 3 years since it was upgraded from 8.1.7. At that time we had done full export of 8.1.7 database and then created 9.2. instance and then imported all the application schemas.
Load on our database has been increasing and there are constant pressures from management to improve performance. We have looked at indexes many times, have lots of memory for SGA and have tuned various init.ora parameters. Being a third party packages, we cannot rewrite queries.
Application is a mix of OLTP and reporting, it is definitely more read than write.
Are there any benefits to reorganize database using export/import, i.e., we will do a full export of existing database and then delete all objects from application schemas and do schema imports. We will run the dbms_Stats again to recomputed statistics. Of course, we will test all of that in a test environment before making change sin production.
I have heard different views on reorganization. Some people say it is useless, some people say it can improve performance since data will be placed homely in fewer blocks.
Appreciate your feedback.Hi,
Oracle gave us reorg utilities (dbms_redefinition) because Oracle does not do real-time reorganization for performamnce reasons.
In some applications, reorgs are critical to high-performance, while in others, it may make no difference.
Remember, a reorg simply puts the indexes and tables into their "optimal" pristine state.
The most striking benefit of table reorgs is when a "sparse" table experiences lots of full scans. After the reorg, response time can be cut in half.
Also, in cases where related rows are queried together, a reorg with row-resequencing (like 10g sorted hash clusters) make a bif difference:
http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_table_row_resequencing.htm
But like I said, it depends on many factors . . .
Hope this helps . . .

SID Already Exist During Creating Database
Hi,
I've just installed oracle software on AIX 5.3
- I've installed the software only.
- Then, I tried to create database, but I've got an error message that "SID is already exist". Its the first oracle SID I create but I've got this error message, but maybe the error message due to failed installation of oracle for couple of times or I did "export ORACLE_SID=..." before creating database.
I want to create database with the same SID... Whatch should I do...

If you don't need the first database, you can drop it
If you don't have the database (you dropped it or etc.) but Oracle still claims that you have, then clear the line from /etc/oratab file which indicates information about that database -

nullI had the same problem before. Apparently, it happened to me
because I was insisting on creating a db using shared server
processes (MTS). The following quote says it all:
==========================================================
Restricted Operations of the Multi-Threaded Server
Certain administrative activities cannot be performed while
connected to a dispatcher process, including shutting down or
starting an instance and
media recovery. An error message is issued if you attempt to
perform these activities while connected to a dispatcher process.
These activities are typically performed when connected with
administrator privileges. When you want to connect with
administrator privileges in a
system configured with multi-threaded servers, you must state in
your connect string that you want to use a dedicated server
process
(SRVR=DEDICATED) instead of a dispatcher process.
=======================================================
So, the answer is create a db using dedicated server processes,
and then perhaps later on change them to shared server processes.

Create database on top of application server
Hi, I have Oracle Application Server 10g installed, now can I create database directly on top of that? I tried to use the provided DBCA to create a 10g database. During the creation process, I got "ORA-01304: Oracle not available". Is there anybody know what is wrong with this? Or should I install 10g database independenttly?
Any input will be appreciated.Hi,
"can I create database directly on top of that" ...
1. If you are installing in the same "ORACLE_HOME" directory no.
2. If you are installing in a different directory, and have sufficient memory, cpu, diskspace (a significant issue)... then Yes
"should I install 10g database independently"
1. perhaps, see above, if Yes to (2) then is this a development platform for yourself or an organizational / company platform. It is common practice for the apps server and db to be installed on different servers for performance reasons.
