Creating file command in Linux

What is the command to create some oracle.permissions file?
like touch oracle.permissions?

To create a non-empty file you can also do something like
$ echo "This is line #1" >oracle.permissions
$ echo "This is line #2" >>oracle.permissions
$ echo "This is line #3" >>oracle.permissions
$
$ cat oracle.permissions
This is line #1
This is line #2
This is line #3

  • Seting file permission in Linux

    hello everybody!
    I wrote a program in java and swing gui instalator, which creating bash scrfipt file to lauch the jar file. I have question: how to set exec permission for the new created file. I wrote in my program:
    if("Linux".equals(System.getProperty("os.name"))) {
                   FilePermission fPerm = new FilePermission(path, "execute");
    What should I do next, to set permission.

    FilePermission is for use within the SecurityManager. You will need to actually invoke the linux command chmod using Process.exec

  • Create File Permissions

    So I was able to force globally all newly generated / created directories or folders to be set with 700 permissions by editing /etc/profile and changing the UMASK to '077'. That worked great for my Arch Linux workstation but I am now trying to understand how I can force all newly created files I create to have the same permissions. Is there a separate area I would need to set this up globally? I use 'wget' and 'touch' a lot and would like the files generated  by those commands and or 'vim' to have 700 permissions. Does anyone know how I can accomplish this on my system?

    umask 077 results in permissions of -rw------- for files and drwx------ for directories.
    was that not what you wanted?
    (nb: for obvious security reasons, umask won't make files executable by default)

  • How can I create files in unicode format without "byte order mark"?

    Hello together,
    I have to export files in UTF-8 format and have to send them to another partner system which works with linux as operating system.
    I have tried the different possibities to create files with ABAP. But nothing works 100% how I want.
    Some examples:
    1.)
    OPEN DATASET [filename] FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING UTF-8.
    If I create a file in this way and download it from application server to local system the result for file format in a unicode text edior like NotePad is "ANSI AS UTF-8". This means I have no BYTE ORDER MARK inside.
    But it is also possible that the file format is only ANSI if the file contains no "special characters", isn't it?
    In my test cases I create 3 files. 2 of them has format "ANSI AS UTF-8", and one only "ANSII".
    After transfer to Linux I get as result 2 times UTF8 and one time ASCII as file format.
    2.)
    OPEN DATASET [filename] FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING UTF-8 WITH BYTE ORDER MARK.
    With this syntax the result in local editor looks like ok. I get as format really "UTF-8".
    But I get problems with the system which receives the files.
    All files has the file format UTF-8 on Linux but the interface / script can not read the file with BYTE ORDER MARK.
    This is a very big problem for me.
    Do anybody of you know if it possible to force creation in UTF-8 without a BYTE ORDER MARK?
    This means more or less the first example but all files should have UTF-8 format!
    Thanks in advance
    Christian

    This means it is not possible to create a pure unicode file without the byte order mark?
    You wouldn't happen to know how a file with byte order mark should read on a Linux system?
    Or if this possible or not?
    Regards
    Christian

  • Recently, iPhoto will no longer allow my to export photos onto my folders on my desktop. It just says that it is unable to create file. Not sure why this is happening?

    iPhoto is no longer allowing me to export & resize photos into a file on my desktop. It just states that it is Unable to create file on desktop. I'm not sure what this means on how to correct this issue. Any support would be greatly appreciated!

    Then do the following:
    Fix #1
    Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    If Fix #1 fails to help continue with:
    Fix #2
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    Download IPhoto Library Manager 4 for OS XC 10.6.8 and iPhoto  8.1.2 and later  or iPhoto Library Manager 3 (for OS X 10.5.8 and iPhoto 7.1.5 and earlier) and launch.
    Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 3) or Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 4) option.
    In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Tr command in Linux

    Hi All,
    I searched internet for the usage of tr command, honestly it is very powerfull when process flat files,
    take text replacement for example
    cat file1.txt | tr "abc" "xyz"
    the output will be that 'a' change to 'X', 'b' to 'Y', 'c' to 'Z'
    but does it support function that can replace "abc" to "xyz", not change them individually?
    Please advise which kind of option should I use for tr or any other command in Linux?
    thanks
    Henry

    How about find and replace with SED, e.g.:
    $ sed -i 's/orig_text/new_text/g' /home/oracle/test.txt
    sed edits "-i" /home/oracle/test.txt in place and replaces "orig_text" with "new_text"
    You can find many examples and tutorials about SED in google e.g.

  • Grep Command in Linux

    Hi all,
    I having problem getting the output of grep command in Linux (Red Hat 9.0).
    At the same time, I am able to get the output of cat command.
    Using the output of cat command, I am writing it to a text file and then in another process using grep I am extracting particular line from the text file.
    To get the Process Output I am using a code from http://hacks.oreilly.com/pub/h/1092#thread.
    Below is my code.
    public void getUSBInfo() {
           try{
                  String catCommand =  "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices";
                  System.out.println("catCommand is : "+catCommand);
                  Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(catCommand);
                  usbInfoBuffer = new StringBuffer("");
                  InputStream inStream = p.getInputStream();
                  new InputStreamHandler( usbInfoBuffer, inStream );
                                  // InputStreamHandler is the class used to read the console output.
                  StringBuffer errBuffer = new StringBuffer();
                  InputStream errStream = p.getErrorStream();
                  new InputStreamHandler( errBuffer , errStream );
                  p.waitFor();
                  catCommandOutput = usbInfoBuffer.toString();
                  System.out.println("USB Info : " +catCommandOutput);
                  String fileCat ="/EthicsPoint/usbInfo.txt";
                  File catCommandOutputFile =  new File(fileCat);
                  boolean filesuccess = catCommandOutputFile.createNewFile();
                  setContents(catCommandOutputFile,catCommandOutput);
                  extractUSBInfo();
                  }catch(Exception e) {
                 JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null," Exception occured executing Native Method..catCommand.."                                         ,epname,JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);                                    System.out.println("File Exception No 6" +e);
    public void extractUSBInfo() {
         try {
              String filename = " /EthicsPoint/usbInfo.txt";
              String grepCommand = "grep \"P:\\|S:\""+filename ;
               //String[] grepCommand = new String[]{"grep", "\"P:\\|S:\"", "/EthicsPoint/usbInfo.txt"};
              Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(grepCommand);
              usbExtractedInfoBuffer = new StringBuffer("");
              InputStream inStream = p.getInputStream();
              new InputStreamHandler( usbExtractedInfoBuffer, inStream );
              StringBuffer errBuffer = new StringBuffer();
              InputStream errStream = p.getErrorStream();
              new InputStreamHandler( errBuffer , errStream );
              p.waitFor();
              String Output = usbExtractedInfoBuffer.toString();
              System.out.println("grepCommand is    : " +grepCommand);
              System.out.println("Searched USB Info : " +Output);
          }catch(Exception e) {
         JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null," Exception occured executing Native Method..grepCommand..."                               ,epname,JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);                                    System.out.println("File Exception No 7" +e);
          }I am not getting any IOException. The output of System.out.println("Searched USB Info : " +Output); is blank.
    If I try shell> grep "P:\|S:" /EthicsPoint/usbInfo.txt, I get the desired output.
    What could be the reason ? While using cat command I am getting the output , but grep command is
    returning blank. I even tried String array[] for exec() command, but still get blank.
    Where and what I am doing wrong ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Jay.

    Hi asjf,
    Thanks a lot... The problem is finally solved.
    String exeCommand = "grep P:\\|S: "+filename; I removed the quotes and it worked. But if I
    remove backslash for the pipe symbol nothing happens..as I get return value of 1.
    Output after removing quotes :
    exeCommand is : grep P:\|S:  /EthicsPoint/usbInfo.txt
    Exit Value is : 0
    USB Info : P:  Vendor=0000 ProdID=0000 Rev= 0.00
    S:  Product=USB OHCI Root Hub
    S:  SerialNumber=ce84b000
    P:  Vendor=0000 ProdID=0000 Rev= 0.00
    S:  Product=USB OHCI Root Hub
    S:  SerialNumber=ce849000But I have noticed another problem. If I execute the aplication number of times, eventhough
    the exit value is 0, USB Info : is blank. This happens sometimes. Sometimes I get the correct output.
    What could be the reason ?
    Thanks to you and all who have replied to my queries....Thanks a lot.....Really appreciate the time and effort.
    Regards,
    Jay.

    For the last 5 years (and in IPCC3.x/4.x,UCCX/5.x/7.x) I've used the same basic subflow to read a XML document that contains holiday dates where the queue should be closed.  I've re-used this script on 20+ client installs and it's always worked.  The structure of the script allows you to pass the path and filename of the XML document as parameters to the subflow. (The document is in the repository)
    I loaded this script in UCCX 8.0.2 recently and it crashed with a Java.IO error.  It looked like it was trying to read the file system directly and not the repository. (In the Linux appliance model this kind of makes sense but why is the step trying to read the file system directly?)
    So I open a TAC case (SR# 615243125) and TAC tells me that the method of using the Create File Document step is not supported anymore and that I should specify the filename directly in the Create XML Document step
    The problem that I see (aside from having to edit all my scripts that use XML files) is that the Create XML Document step is looking for the input to be a type DOCUMENT and not a type STRING.  This seems to imply that I have to hardcode the document in each script that I deploy for a customer.  When it was a string it was easy to construct the full file path from parameters and pass to the subflow.
    Questions to the group
    #1 Am I missing something here?
    #2  Do you assume that you'll be able to load a script that worked fine in UCCX 7 into UCCX 8 and that it should completely function when you're doing everything according to the step reference documentation.
    #3 Cisco didn’t document this in any way that I can find.
    #4 How can you use the Create XML Document step in a fashion that would let you construct the path of the file and the filename previously in the script so you could pass it to a subflow ?  It would seem this functionality has been killed in UCCX 8

    Create File Document Step
    The input filename is a STRING, could be an explicit path and filename in the repository or a variable that represents that path and string
    The output of this step is a DOCUMENT to be used in the Create XML Document step
    The string FILE_FullPathHolidayFiles references  en_us\folderName\documentName.xml
    The document was properly uploaded into the repository only, NOT trying to directly read c:\foo\blah…

    The create XML document input can only be a type DOCUMENT

    #1 Am I missing something here?
    You are mixing two different issues together here.
    The Create File Document step is indeed not needed or supported for creating an XML document. That is why there is a unique step; to trigger XML parsing within the MIVR subsystem.
    Accessing the file system is restricted to a single folder within the VOS model (i.e. 8.0+). This folder is not backed up, replicated, or cleaned up automatically. It was intended to give developers some FS access as a temporary swap location only.
    #2  Do you assume that you'll be able to load a script that
    worked fine in UCCX 7 into UCCX 8 and that it should completely
    function when you're doing everything according to the step reference
    documentation.
    Assume nothing; read the documentation and attend one of the dozens of partner training sessions that CCBU put on advising of the upcoming changes.
    #3 Cisco didn’t document this in any way that I can find.
    You're right, I guess, on the Create File vs. XML Document step. AFAIK Cisco never wrote a notice into the Step Reference Guide explicitly stating that you cannot use the Create File Document although the documentation seemed pretty clear to me without it. File system restrictions are documented in the 8.0 release notes.
    Scripting and Development Series: Volume 2, Editor Step ReferenceUse the Create XML Document step to create a logical document that maps a document to another document variable (where the document has already been pre-parsed as an XML document and is ready to be accessed by the Get XML Document Data step).Use this step before the Get XML Document Data step to obtain data from a document formatted using the Extensible Markup Language (XML).
    #4 How can you use the Create XML Document step in a fashion that would
    let you construct the path of the file and the filename previously in
    the script so you could pass it to a subflow ?  It would seem this functionality has been killed in UCCX 8
    No it hasn't; just concatinate a string to build the Source Document parameter the step needs. Example:  "DOC[" + myFilePath + "]"

                   lpad(ltrim(to_char(apt_amt2,'999999990.00')),12,' ');
    Text_IO.Put(out_file, str);
    Text_IO.New_Line(out_file);
    file is closing in after report trigger.
    text_io.fclose(out_file);

  • Cannot create file "/Applications/ " Permission denied.

    When installing new software Iget the following error message: "Cannot create file "/Applications/ ". Permission denied. I have used disk utilities to try to repair my permissions with no sucsess. I have also tried reinstaling the software. Any advise is appreciated.
    I am using Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and Safari 8.0.4

    You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this,boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • How to use a .dmg file in Arch Linux

    I have a file a friend gave me from his Mac computer with a .dmg file name. I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly how to use this type of file... I believe its an Apple raw disk image or something like that.. sort of like an iso. I need to use this file in order to start an application and download it onto Arch Linux. The problem is that I can't figure out how to use it on Arch Linux and burn it onto a Cd. Has anyone had experience with this sort of thing? I am completely lost.
