Creating PL/SQL Report

Hi
I have several reports written in plsql procedures which work fine provided I place them in a plsql region. I now have a need to run a long running report which branches to a page which displays a animated gif and runs the long running job (3 Minutes) which I have acheived.
What I want to do is return to the original page and display the results from the procedure ( I figure I could do this by changing the procedure to a function and return the results), what I would really like to know is how to have the procedure output the html (htp.p etc) for the tabs to keep a consistant web view or output the results from a pl/sql procedure to a particular region, at present it outputs to a blank page with the results but without the the tabs. A perfect solution would be to generate a popup window from a pl/sql procedure.
Just to explain the full process briefly of what I am trying to achieve.
1. A user selects from a select list what report they want to run (Working).
2. If the selected report is long running, display animated gif (Working).
3. Output the results consistant with the web interface (Tabs etc) ???,
If anyones knows of a easier/better method it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Wayne

Chris:
I'd like to try your suggestion for a similar problem I am having. Do you have some code snippets that I can review. I'm not familiar with how to kick off a backround pl/sql package.
What I have is a user who selects a report, presses a button that starts a process that calls a pl/sql package. The web page is locked up and eventually times out. I've played with the timeout parms and not enough benefit. What I'd like to do is:
1 User selects report and presses button
2 a process runs a pl/sql package in backround
3.pl/sql updates a status table
4.app monitors and provides a status
5 once pl/sql completes a report region shows a report created
This is beyond current knowledge and would appreciate samples.
Thanks,
Jerry

  • SQL report region source to call a pl/sql function using DB link

Hi - I have a pl/sql function fn_dbtype(id NUMBER) defined in database X. The pl/sql function executes couple DML statements and returns a string (a SELECT query). I am able to call this function using SQL Plus (Connected to Database X) as below and it works fine:
    declare
    vSQL VARCHAR2(100);
    begin
    vSQL := fn_dbtype(1);
    end;
The DML operations completed fine and vSQL contains the "Select" query now.
    In APEX:
I am trying to create a SQL report in APEX using SQL query(PL/SQL function returning a sql statement) option. I am trying to figure out what to put in the region source so that the output of the "Select" query is displayed in the report.
Moreover APEX is hosted in a different database instance. So I would need to call this pl/sql function using a DB Link.
Please let me know what I need to put in the region source to execute the pl/sql function which returns the "Select" query thereby displaying the query output in the report. Thanks.

  • Using Azure internal load balancer (ILB) for Sql Reporting Services

I am attempting to implement a scale-out SSRS deployment using the Azure ILB feature. I have created 2 Sql Reporting servers using the azure images and have created a ILB endpoint on both servers.  I am then attempting to access the servers via the
ILB from my .Net web application.  I can access the report server from my browser and am prompted for credentials using forms authentication.  there is no issue accessing the reports from a browser however my web application cannot access the reports
and returns a 500 error.  I have a hunch this is due to an authentication issue due to invalid kerberos proxy authentication.
Does anyone have any information regarding the possible authentication mechanisms that are supported using Azure ILB?

Thanks for the response Swallow0417, but as I stated I already had configured this to work in a browser.  I should have mentioned that I already had set the machine key and altered the rsreportserver.config file as mentioned in
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc281307.aspx.
It turns out this was due to the extended data validation that was introduced in SQL 2014.
This page led me to alter rsreportserver.config so that:
    <RSWindowsExtendedProtectionLevel>Off</RSWindowsExtendedProtectionLevel>
    <RSWindowsExtendedProtectionScenario>Any</RSWindowsExtendedProtectionScenario>
After restarting the report server service my application now can make the requests for the reports successfully.  I'll provide the other steps I took to hopefully help someone else in the future:
    1. Create 2 or more SQL servers in an Azure availability group on the same service in a Reports server scale out deployment.  The SSRS Service account must be a domain account or it will not work
    2. Create an Azure ILB using powershell and add the endpoints on your http(s) ports on the server in step 1. I also set the endpoint IdleTimeoutInMinutes to 30 on both endpoints as it seemed like there was some possible timeout issues. the endpoint MUST
also have DirectServerReturn Set to $true
    3. disable the loopbackcheck see method 2 here
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861
create a DWORD registry key value 1,
    DisableLoopbackCheck,
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
    4. Configure View state validation by setting an identical machine key on all servers behind the azure ILB
    5. Create a Host record in your AD DNS for the Azure ILB IP Address.
    6. configure hostname
and URLRoot in rsreportserver.config - see
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc281307.aspx
Setting the hostname tag breaks the report manager url. It is only
required to set the URLRoot tag. I do not think it is required in this configurtaion only for Windows
    NLB
    6. Configure the authentication method in rsreportserver.conig
      <RSWindowsExtendedProtectionLevel>Off</RSWindowsExtendedProtectionLevel>
      <RSWindowsExtendedProtectionScenario>Any</RSWindowsExtendedProtectionScenario>

  • Please Help - SQL Report long column value required in a separate cell

    Hi.
I need to create a SQL report with the structure like below:
Country State City Vertical Business Details (detail desc)
    US MA Quincy Healthcare
This is a detail desc value that needs to displayed in a different cell.
This is a detail desc value that needs to displayed in a different cell.
This is a detail desc value that needs to displayed in a different cell.
This is a detail desc value that needs to displayed in a different cell.
    US MA Braintree IT
This is a detail desc value that needs to displayed in a different cell.
This is a detail desc value that needs to displayed in a different cell.
This is a detail desc value that needs to displayed in a different cell.
I came through a solution where you can hide/display the long column value in a different cell. But my requirement is that it should be displayed when the page opens and user don;t want to click on a button to see the value. This is mainly for their presentations and printing. so its very annoying for them to click on so many buttons to see the detail desc value for every record. I am new to Java script, Please help

I'm not sure I understand your requirements--are you showing us 2 lines of data, 7 lines, or 9? Do you want the long detail description on the same row, or underneath it?
I'm going to go on the assumption that you're showing us two rows, and that the long descriptions in this example happen to be 3-4 lines long, and that you want the long descriptions underneath the details. In which case, I suggest using "named column" templates. They're a lot easier to use than they appear when you first look at them, so bear with me.
Under "Shared Components", select "Templates", and then click on the yellow Create> button. You're creating a report template, from scratch. On the final page of the wizard, select "Named Column (row template)" for the template type. This will create a rather generic (and useless) template, which you'll have to edit; I don't know why they chose to not send you straight into the editor. When you edit it, you'll see that the only field with a value in it is "Row Template 1", and it's set to:
<tr><td>#1#</td><td>#2#</td><td>#3#</td><td>#4#</td><td>#5#</td></tr>For meeting your requirements with basic functionality, change it to something along the lines of:
    <tr><td>#COUNTRY#</td><td>#STATE#</td><td>#CITY#</td><td>#VERT#</td></tr>
<tr><td colspan="4">#DETAILS#</td></tr>Then you'll probably want to put something under Column Heading Template, like:
    <tr><td>Country</td><td>State</td><td>City</td><td>Vertical Business</td></tr>
<tr><td colspan="4">Details</td></tr>Apply whatever CSS styles you want to it, of course.
Using the template is straightforward: if your report, chose the template, and make sure your SQL returns values using the column names you specified in your template. Otherwise, you'll see literal "#COUNTRY#" text in your report.
You can get fancy with these, of course, such as applying different styles to alternating rows, but I'll leave this as good enough to get you started (I hope).

  • SQL report with delete capability

I want to create a SQL report with the capability of delete rows (show checkboxes next to each row). Is this possible?

You can create a page type of Tabular Form, remove all buttons but delete, change all the edit boxes to display as text (saves state) and use that.

  • How to pass date in SQL Report

I wanted to find out which date format should be used to pass the SQL query.
    TIA,

  • Coldfusion and SQL reporting service 2005?

Ive been searching google for hours with no clear answer. How
can you use coldfusion to pull in an sql report from reporting
service? Via a web service or wsdl i assume, but how?

    Anwar,
It's important to get the terms right here.
SQL Reporting Services is not the same as SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
SQL Reporting Services refers to an Azure service that lets users develop reports in the cloud. However, it is being retired in Oct. 2014, so you'll want to stay away from that.
SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is the reporting module that is part of SQL Server. This is a sophisticated tool that lets developers create and publish reports that users can access through various methods. It has schedule and refresh capabilities,
and can leverage SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). You'd most likely use SSRS if you're creating sophisticated reports and queries that you don't want your users creating.
SQL Report Builder is a report creation tool designed for users who want to stay in Microsoft Office. It can be used by developers or end users.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd220460.aspx
Both environments let you create reports that can be shared (published) on a report server or through SharePoint.
So it's really a matter of what you're most comfortable using.
    Hope that helps.

  • HELP, SQL report

I created a SQL Report, the report asked me if i would like to add a search feature, i said yes,
the search function queryies ID numbers 1-50,
when i run the application and ask for id number 4; the query responds to id # 4,14, 34,and 44.
    If i'm asking for id # 4 shouldn't i get just 4,
why is it giving me these other numbers???
Is there a code that just shows the number i'm asking for???
    thanks in advance

    jo,
The SQL Report appears to only you to Enable Search on non-key columns of the table and assumes that you are going to search for any porition of the string that you provide in the search item of the page.
You could try altering your SQL and replace the instr line with something like this:
    WHERE ( :px_report_search IS NULL
    OR UPPER (your_column_name) = UPPER (:px_report_search)
The upper may not be necessary if you are not searching a character string.

  • How does one give out enough spaces for a column in SQL report ?

How does one reserve enough spaces for a column in SQL report ?
Ex: 2 columns defined as the following
    projectNo varchar2(10)
    ProjectName varchar2(50)
When create an sql report, the report heading will show below. If my project name is " Tire Strength Test At Site R987654" . I need to get it to show in one line since it was defined as varchar2(50)
    projectNo     ProjectName
    A0001         Tire Strength
                  Test At Site
R987654 There got to be a way to get around here . Thanx in advance.

I noticed the CSS Style settings only seem to work if using a "Standard Report Column". Unfortunately I have the need to define some report columns where undesired wrapping occurs as "Display as Text (based on LOV, does not save state)" and tried to avoid wrapping, but no luck - is there a way around this (other than performing the report query using a huge DECODE clause, which somewhat renders the LOV useless except for data entry)?
Thanks in advance for any ideas,

  • Creating tabs for a single SQL report type region

I would like to find a way to use tabs in a single SQL report type region. The problem I have is that there are too many columns to be displayed so the report looks very cluttered. I would like to find a way to assign say columns 1 - 5 to tab 1, 6-10 to tab 2 etc so the user can find the columns they need by simply clicking on the various tabs without having to execute the query again.
I have looked at JQuery tabs but that seems to only be applicable to more or less unrelated regions. I tried to create different regions using the same query with different columns and that kind of works, but the regions don't stay in sync if say the user change the order for column 2 in tab 1, when they click on tab 2 everything displays in a different order.
Another wrinkle is that this is an updatable report so some of the columns are updatable.
I also looked at the hide / display column solution which is described in a few threads and that may also sort of work, but it is also not quite what I am looking for.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

Does anybody know if this can be accomplished using APEX? What I am really looking for is very similar to an old fashioned client / server screen developed using say Oracle Forms. Consider an order line screen where say columns line number, SKU and SKU description is to the left of the tabs so these columns are visible no matter which tab is active. Then the first tab has say pricing information including UOM, quantity, list price, unit selling price, price list. The next tab has say customer information including customer number, name, bill to and ship to addresses. the next tab has say shipping information with say the warehouse, shipping instructions and shipping method.

  • Version 3.1 fault - ORA-06502 error when creating SQL Report Region/Page

I usually perfect my query in SQL*PLUS before I create a new report region.
Consequently, I copy the code into the region wizard to create the new page. However, since we have upgraded to Version 3.1, virtually every report I have tried to create has created the following error:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
It would appear that a maximum of 960 characters can be used to create the region/page. Perversely, once the page/region has been created, I can then edit the source and include as much code as I want (so far I've not run up against a limit)
As it's just annoying, but not stopping me doing what I wanted to do, I've not got around to mentioning this error previously, but it occurred to me that I should (so I am!)
    David

    Hi David,
Thank you for reporting this. Unfortunately, this was a regression introduced in Application Express 3.1. The workaround is to edit the region, as you suggested. This has been filed as Bug 6956070 and will be corrected in the forthcoming Application Express 3.1.1 patch set.

  • 3.1 Bug Report: "Enable Search" in Create SQL Report wizard

    Hi,
when "Enable Search" is set to Yes in the "Create SQL Report" wizard, the label template of the page items is set to NULL, it should be "Optional Label" (the default of the theme).
The PX_ROWS page item is not referenced in the "Number of Rows (Item)" property of the report. That means the user can choose what he wants, it never gets used.
BTW, it would be useful to write the PX_ROWS into a user preference when the page gets submitted and based the source type on this preference.
    Thanks for looking into it.

  • Is it possible to create a generic report that accepts the SQL as a param

Is it possible to create a generic report that accepts the FULL sql statement as a paramater and returns variable results based on this?
We have a requirement to have a generic export routine to spit out csv's from clicking on a web page hyperlink, which would need to accept a "new" sql statement for every run, each containing different columsn etc that would be needed in the output.
I was hoping could have a generic Oracle report, exporting delimited data format (and as such not using a layout) and somehow pass in the "new" sql statement as a parameter at run time - each sql statement would be different with different columns etc.
Is this possible with oracle reports ?
    thanks

If you need a simple dump of data you could try writing a report with a simple query such as
select 'Report title or column headers'
    from dual
    &data_query
then your &data_query parameter could be
    union select col1||','||col2 from data_table
If you are outputing a comma separated data dump the you can concatenate together your data into a single text field.
This would allow you to have a simple heading followed by the actual data. I guess you could extend this so that the 'Report title or column headers' from the first query was also a parameter to output your row headings i.e.
    select :column_headings_text
    from dual
    &data_query
Give it a go and good luck
