Creating Resource Calendars

I'd like to create a resource calendar for use with meetings room. Ideally they auto accept meeting invitations and show busy when booked.
I tried
./csresource -m [email protected] -c itsconfroom create ITS_Conference_Room
but I can't see this resource via LDAP or Outlook
We use Outlook, Sun Java System Directory Server 5.2.4, and Calendar Server Version 6.0.
Any ideas?

Did you get an error or feedback of any kind when you ran this command?
Can you see the resource listed when you run the command:
./csresource list
When you are logged in as the calmaster account, are you able to search/subscribe to the itsconfroom resource?
We use OutlookDo you mean you are using outlook with the Sun Outlook Connector, if so what revision of Outlook Connector are you using?
, Sun Java System Directory Server 5.2.4, and Calendar Server Version 6.0.What patch level of calendar? (showrev -p | grep ics5).

    Part of it suggests that we have to run commadmin to create the resources and then either csresource or cscal to create the actual calendar. However, we don't use commadmin to create users (as recommended by Sun) as it can't create users in a particular OU. Can someone who uses resource calendars tell me how they created them?? I'm lost...
    Ideally, a ldif of a working resource calendar would be handy to have a look at - and some info on how to create the actual calendar!

  • Resource calendars in Outlook connector

    I'm sure I am missing something terribly simple, but I'm hoping someone can advise me on subscribing to resource calendars in the Outlook connector. We are running System Messaging Server 6.2-7.05, SUNWics 116577-42 (2005Q4 + patches) against DS 5.2.5 on Solaris 10.
    I have been creating resource calendars without problems, such as:
    cn=Sliger Room 242, ou=resource_calendars,dc=fsu,dc=edu has cn: Sliger Room 242
    cn=Sliger Room 242, ou=resource_calendars,dc=fsu,dc=edu has icsCalendar: ucs-sliger242
    cn=Sliger Room 242, ou=resource_calendars,dc=fsu,dc=edu has icsDWPHost: calsvr.fsu.edu
    If the resource calendar is owned by an Outlook user, it shows up for them just fine, and if they give access to other users, they users can subscribe in webmail, but I don't seem to be able to get the resources to show up in Outlook so that one can subscribe there without going through webmail.
    First I thought that perhaps they needed to be visible to the Outlook GAL, so I reconfigured the GAL to include objectclass=icsCalendarResource. But though the objects can then be seen, the are still not found when searching for calendars to subsribe to, either by searching for a calendar name or by the owner's name.
    I'd be grateful if someone could point me to a document for the dense, or recommend some gotcha's to check for.

    When I query for "Show shared calendars available whose user_id is Sliger" There is also quite a bit of chatter on the LDAP that backs the Global Address Book, but I'm not sure how relevant that is (be happy to share if it would be useful)

    I have a small programme, a total of 18 individual plans including the Resource Pool, the resource pool seems to be creating individual calendars for each active resource these calendars (e.g. Resource Fred has a line ID of 9 in the Resource sheet and a
    calendar MyCal9 is created) these Calendars are then copied into each of the Projects in which the resources are active.
    I have not seen this before and it seems so inefficient (and makes the Project .mpp files huge) that I am concerned that some sort of corruption has crept in, is this the case or is this how Project 2013 works?

    Linking between files uses a very old windows technology called DDE. It is DDE that is flawed, so the same problems apply to two linked Excel workbooks, it's not a Project problem. Over-writing, renaming, moving files or storing on remote servers all incurs
    a risk of file corruption from DDE flaws. Citrix should be ok provided the Citrix servers and teh server holding teh files are physically in the same building (not linked over a WAN).
    Copying and unzipping etc I recommend NOT linking. To create a consolidated view insert all sub-projects into a new file with link option OFF. This consolidates all data (including resources) and provides a great reporting tool.
    Record a macro to make creating new copies quick and easy.

  • How to Create Multiple Calendar Exceptions Which Occasionally Coincide

    Ok so here's my situation
    I have a group of schedules that currently have technical work and routine meetings and I am working in Project Standard 2010.  I am not a fan of including meetings in technical schedules especially the recurring variety that represent informal tag-ups.
     However, the team that is working the actual schedule has a significant portion of their work day captured by meetings.  They want to be able to resource level, but they have to also be able to show the impact of their meeting obligations on their
    ability to complete technical work.
    So originally I was going to have these meetings entered as recurring events in the schedule; their periodicities were various.  Some meetings were daily, some weekly, some monthly.  But it became clear to me that this approach was going to become
    unsustainable.  With schedules that extend out a full calendar year, the daily and weekly meetings in particular became voluminous numbering in the thousands; in some cases representing 2/3 of all the schedule activities.  
    This makes timely tacking, updating, and statusing of these schedules un-achievable.  I searched on the web and was given a clever suggestion: to create a resource calendar with recurring exceptions that represented meeting obligations for a resource.
    I liked the idea but there was a problem.  When I was testing the idea I wanted to see what would happen if a resource had multiple exceptions (representing multiple meetings) that coincided on the same day.  Would Project recognize all of the
    exceptions?  So I created a resource named "Bob" and gave him
    -a daily exception with a work day defined from 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-5:00 (to represent an 8:00 hourly meeting)
    -a weekly exception with a work day defined from 8:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:00 (to represent a 4:00 hourly meeting)
    -a monthly exception with a work day defined from 8:00-11:00 and 1:00-5:00 (to represent an 11:00 hourly meeting)
    I ensured that the weekly and monthly exceptions happened on Mondays, and then I found a Monday were all 3 exceptions would be in effect.  I schedule an activity to begin on the date, and then applied Bob to that activity.  Then I went to the Resource
    Usage view to Bob's hours, and instead of reflecting that Bob could only do 5 hours of work, it showed that Bob could do 7 hours of work.
    It appeared that Project 2010 would only honor one exception at a time, and it appeared to do it in a hierarchy... first daily exceptions, then monthly exceptions, then weekly exceptions.  Is that simply how it works in Project 2010?  Can only
    one exception be honored at a time?  And if there are coinciding exceptions, does Project 2010 start with the daily exception first?

    Most people who have familiarity with scheduling agree with John, you, and myself; that the attempt to schedule, track,
    status, and update routine meetings is probably ill-advised.  I thought about doing something a long the lines of what you are suggesting (if for no other reason because it would make my life easier) to just reduce their percentage availability.  
    I may ultimately present that also as an alternative.  My solution right now is to create exceptions to the
    exception.  Meaning: If I have a daily, weekly, and monthly exception, then I consider my daily meeting to be "The Exception" (because it has the highest frequency of occurrence), and my weekly and monthly meetings are exceptions to "The Exception".  On
    the days when a weekly and/or monthly meeting coincide with a daily meeting, I just add all of their outages together and create an exception to "The Exception" on that day.  Theoretically this should work,  I was just hoping for a more elegant solution.
     I was hoping someone would say, "oh yeah, you just go to options and select 'Merge Exceptions' and you're good to go".

    Workaround is to create an user instead of a locations / resource calendar.

    You would sync Outlook via iTunes on the computer. Connect the iPhone to the computer, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes running, select the iPhone in iTunes and it will display the Summary page. Select the Info tab, and there you would select what you want to sync calendar and contacts to. Make sure since this is the first time you have done a sync that whichever of the devices is new to the sync process has at least one unique contact/calendar event to get iTunes to prompt you for a merge or replacement.   • Resource Calendar Properties

    I need to make some calendars, all owned by one user, to appear to other users as if they were resource calendars. I have been successful in changing the calendar attributes for access, including those to prevent double booking. Having the resource icon would be nice, but not essential. The problem is that I need the calendar to be searchable by a more simple name than the default one that includes the user name. This is to allow the user to invite the resource to an event using a simple name for the calendar and for the user to be able to do this through the invite search box.
    In case you are interested, I am using the Campus Pipeline portal which is integrated with the SunOne Calendar product. The reason that I don't want to just create a resource calendar is to leverage a built in calendar management option that allows group leaders to manage and delegate calendar management to group members. The only major problem is the long and ambiguous calendar names I have to work with. Some kind of simple alias might do the trick. I would appreciate any creative suggestions.

    I put in 16th a tuesday then the table automatically will put in numbers associated up to #31, but I can correct if say there are only 30 days in the month, so the cell must be modifiable and I should be able to plug in any number in any cell and it will add 1 to the previous cell up to 31.

    You don't create multiple calendars on the iPad.
    The iPad is designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer for contacts and calendar events. The contact Groups I've created with the Address Book on my Mac and the different calendars I have with iCal on my Mac are available and kept synchronized with the my iPhone's Contacts and Calendar applications, and the same applies to the iPad.
    Long story short, this is done with the supported application on your computer used for syncing contacts and calendar events.
    The same principle applies to PC users. You have to sync within iTunes from a supported calendar application on your PC.

    You don't say what your problem is, so it is kind of difficult to help.
    As a guess, I would say that your code only inserts rows for Wednesdays. TO_CHAR(date, 'DAY') returns a string padded with spaces to the length of the longest day name, in English, that is Wednesday (9 characters).

  • Creating a Calendar View using alternative date fields

    I have a Sharepoint 2007 calendar list that includes the standard Start and End Date fields.  I also have "Suggested Start Date" and "Suggested End Date" fields that are utilized by users to recommend the Start and End Dates for
    the event.
    I can create a Calendar view that displays the events according to the Start and End dates.
    I cannot create a Calendar view that displays the events according to the Suggested Start and Suggested End date fields.
    In practice, all items are not displayed on this second calendar view that should be displayed even though you can choose these fields as Time Interval values when establishing the calendar.
    Is there a way to create a Calendar View that will use date fields other than the default Start and End date fields?

    It seems problem with time value. Have you included time value in custom datatime column wile creating? What happens when you select "date only" from column settings?
    You can also try below suggestion to include "IncludeTimeValue" parameter in CAMl query by designer:

    OR else create two more calculated column and save date only in those columns then filter by them.

    Sorry for the delay in coming back - I had no access yesterday.
    I am not sure what you mean. If you have a lookup table, then you create views/aliases of this table for each of the dates you want to use it for.
    So f your transaction record contains original date and paid_date
    you would create a
    original_date_view as select * from calendar_lookup
    paid_date_view as select * from calendar_lookup
    these views could then be joined to the orginal_date and paid_date fields in your transaction table.
    In the universe you would then expose 2 classes, which contained the same objects.
    Original_date
    Date,
    Day,
    Month,
    Year
    etc
    Paid_date
    Date,
    Day,
    Month,
    Year
    etc
    If you are not using the lookup then you would have to code each date object based on the transaction date field
    So Day in orignal_date would be to_char(txn.original_date, "dd")
    while Day in Paid_date would be to_char(txn.paid_date, "dd")
