CREATING SOCKETS IN JAVA

When I create a socket such as Socket sock = new Socket(address, port)
and I pass some garbage value to address field like (123334) or something like that, the client just hangs up and does not throw any exceptions or anything. The funny thing is, when the address field is composed of characters, say I have "123.45.6.adasd" as the address then java does throw an exception, but if I only have numbers, it does not. What is going on?
P.S.
This only happens when I compile and run on UNIX. In windows it works fine, it timesout and throws an exception with both characters and numbers.
I am using sdk 1.4.1

Using Apache Commons HTTPClient to create a custom socket for Java mail

Does anyone know how to use Apache Commons HTTPClient to create a custom socket for Java mail. This is necessary for me to use NTLM authentication

JavaMail doesn't use HTTP.
If you want to add support for NTLM authentication to one of the standard protocols,
your best bet is to create a SASL provider, although note that only JavaMail's IMAP
provider uses SASL currently. The other protocols should add SASL support, but that
hasn't been done yet.

Problem displaying text in console after creating socket

I'm trying to combine 2 invididual parts of a project I'm working on, but I am having problems intregating it all together.
I am using sockets to connect to 1 computer so it's using client server architecture. Whilst I am able to create and connect using the socket, my program is failing to print on the console. I would like to find out what I have done wrong, and get it working.

before using the mail adapter have you specified all the attributes porperly as well as have setup the SMTP Exchange Server address

Cannot create socket

Hello everyone,
I'm having trouble using the Connector.open method to construct a ServerSocketConnection instance. I use the following code:
ServerSocketConnection serv = (ServerSocketConnection) Connector.open("socket://:80");
I get the following exception: "Cannot create socket, //:80"
I do not think this is a security issue; for one, because I don't get a SecurityException, and secondly because I explicitly ask for permission to use ..Connector.socket, ..Connector.http, and ..Connector.serversocket in the JAD file. I haven't tried signing the midlet suite yet, as this would take quite some time and I'm actually just testing some code. I've also tried using another port (and using "serversocket://:80" instead of "socket://:80", more out of desperation). I have been able to successfully use this method to construct SocketConnection instances, however. Can this be because my particular device (HTC Touch Cruise, with Java VM JBED build 20080428.2.1) simply does not support server socket connections?

Hi, - what is your Analyzer server version? - what browser do you use and version (IE, Firefox, etc)? - what JRE version do you use? Did you set proxy settings? In IE: Tools | Internet options | Connections tab | LAN settings | in Proxy server fraime Address inputbox and Port inputbox? I have requirement to listen certain port for third party POS system using TCP/IP Socket. Since there is no standard SAP TCP/IP Socket Adapter. I am planning to develop using Sender Java Proxy.
Please advise whether this approach is workable ? or is there any related blog / forum discuss about Socket Server.

When you want to have minimal effort, you can create a standalone Java program which listens on a port and transforms the incoming tcp/ip stream to an HTTP message, which you can send to SAP PI.
With more effort you can create an TCP/IP adapter by your own, according to JCA architecture.
A sender Java proxy does not have any runnable code itself, so the problem to create a listened is not solved.

i'm assuming that you have seen my post that i did successfuly save report in user's personal category.
Actually the report is created in webi java panel using RE SDK and is saved in Report Sample Folder then i'm saving it in user's personal category by following code

Help with creating an animated java applet...

Hello, everyone! I'm working on a homework assignment for my Intro to Java class, and I'm having a problem I've never run into before. My assignment is to create a animated Java applet which displays an image of an alien spaceship which travels in diagonal lines across the applet area. My main problem is that when I try to compile my code, I get three "cannot find symbol" errors about my variable "alien." I can't figure out why declaring it as a class variable hasn't solved my problem. The errors pop up for the repaint() method, as well as the pane.add and the paintIcon. Here's my code:

You can?t add ImageIcon into pane, you can do like below.

Creating a custom java module for excel to xml conversion.

I am creating a custom java module in sap nwds 7.3 for Excel to XML Conversion. But I am getting following error
Classpath dependency validator message.
Classpath entry will not be exported or published. Runtime ClassNotFoundExceptions may result.
I imported the Jars from a different PI system and i am using NWDS in local PC with creating a separate folder with all JARs and also imported them using build path option.
This issue is occuring for all the jars imported.

Creating socket factories.

I have problem with URLConnection class which doesnt set any default time out. I want to fix this problem in my project. I searched the web and came to know about implementing custom socket factories.
I am notw trying to create Custom socket factory and set the factory using socket.setSocketImplFactory(mySocketFactory).
I have a problem creating this SocketImpl which is needed for creating my own Socket factory.
I have seen the source of PlainSocketImpl that came with JDK. I want to extend this class and set the Timeout. Unfortunately the PlainSocketImpl is not public. Can anyone give any suggestions. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Any URLs on how to create socket factory will also be very valuable for me.

maybe just try extending URLConnection and set your required timeout in the constructor using setConnectionTimeout(int milliseconds), ie:

[SOLVED] MPD: Failed to create socket

I've been attempting to get MPD working today and I'm rather stumped here. I got it to start out of its default directory, however, that denied it access to my music folder. So, I switched all of that to a ~/.mpd folder as the wiki page instructed me (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mu … _as_a_User), and for purposes of keeping organized.
Now, however, I'm getting this error whenever I run "mpd ~/.mpd/mpd.conf"
Failed to bind to '[::]:6600': Failed to create socket: Address family not supported by protocol
I remember that happening before, and it had to do with user permissions and so on. I think I set "user" to "mpd" that time. "User" is now set to my user, where the .mpd folder is located. Is there a way to allow mpd to continue?
EDIT: My mpd.conf is:

First of all: thanks for testing. my setup creates 2 static hosts, instead of letting mpd autodetect it. sometimes ipv6 detection is prefered and this *can* lead to stuff not working properly.
Also i use absolute paths, to make sure everything works.
mpds audio output detection works decently, you can of course enable one in ~/.mpdconf to get rid of the warning.
Also you had one obvious error: you followed mpds wiki entry to start mpd as user. but you defined a user in mpd.conf. this will not work, since mpd can only drop previlegs to that user, when run as root.

Timeout when creating socket in EJB

What is the best way to solve the problem when creating sockets and being dependant
on the timeout of the JVM. On windows the timeout is approx. 20 seconds. But on
Solaris the same operation has timeout of more than 200 seconds...
Socket sock = new Socket(host, port);
The solution seems to be using threads. But threads are not allowed in EJB's...
Dows anyone have a solution for this?

Try the following:
Socket s = new Socket();
s.connect(socketAddress, timeOut);
These features are available in J2SE 1.4 and above.

I am generating the java proxies from a WSDL file in Jdeveloper and I am getting the below warning.
WARNING: OWS-00102 Mapped {http://xmlns.fmr.com/systems/dev/aar/requests}ViewRequestStatusResult to javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement ViewRequestStatusResult. Reason for not creating a custom Java type: simple or mixed content is not supported.
I have tried using Jpub as well, but it does not work as well.
I am very new to JAVA and It seems some java code needs to be created. can any one please help me how to resolve this issue.

You can only remove the 'Warning JavaScirpt" is by creating a special application folder script for the 'app.response' method that uses the 'trustedFuncton' to suppress this security warning. Then in you form, you will need to test for this function and either issue a warning about the missing function or run the 'app.response' code and live with the warning. Each system will need the special application folder script installed on it.
