Creating visual representations of data

Hello World!
This is my first Java project and I'm a little bit scared. I'm hoping someone can give me a general pointer or advice on how to approach the structure and setup of this project.
I want to create a Java tool that will allow a user to input a query to a MySQL database with the result being transformed into a visual representation when returned.
An example would be a user selecting a house from a drop-down list, whereby an icon w/label representing the top 3 houses from the database would be displayed.
My questions are:
- How would I best go about setting up packages, classes and objects for this project? Just the basics, not after anyone doing the project for me!
- I would like to leave scope for scaling the icon based on relative size/weight of the results. Is this possible?
- If a user types a query instead of a drop-down list, does this have any implications from a Java perspective?
- Finally, is there any freely available code that does something similar to this already that I could refer to? Or any tutorial recommendations?

I don't know any good resources on the web about OOD basics and software usability/ergonomy. But you might want to look at the following:

And use pencil and paper before writing code. Collect use cases - find out what your software is supposed to do -, and make sketches of your future GUI.

Basically, I have floorplans of the various sites that our company uses. i have made these floorplans vectors, and can be used in flash. the floor plans are quite detailed, with desks included. What I would like is some integration with Active directory, where i can have a visual picture of computers populating the various floorplans, but the population of this is driven by the active directory. so computer names and user names would be visable in this dynamic visual representation. I saw an article on the microsoft site, how to do just this with viso 2007, but wondering if i can do this with flash. any ideas?

How to create a report with data using the Crystal Reports for Java SDK

Hi,
How do I create a report with data that can be displayed via the Crystal Report for Java SDK and the Viewers API?
I am writing my own report designer, and would like to use the Crystal Runtime Engine to display my report in DHTML, PDF, and Excel formats. I can create my own report through the following code snippet:
ReportClientDocument boReportClientDocument = new ReportClientDocument();
boReportClientDocument.newDocument();
However, I cannot find a way to add data elements to the report without specifying an RPT file. Is this possible? I seems like it is since the Eclipse Plug In allows you to specify your database parameters when creating an RPT file.
is there a way to do this through these packages?

How to create a variance on data that exists iIn only one database column?
I'm trying to create a calculation to show the difference between the budgets for two different years in a Discoverer crosstab query.
I'm using the lag function to repeat the value of a column for the current year and the year before.

Lag and lead seems to be the only choice and they work excellent. Checkout the new 10g Database features. There is new SQL modal clause which might give additional and powerful analytics but in this case lag and lead should be sufficient.

PowerView error -Cannot create a connection to data source 'TemporaryDataSource'.

Hello and thanks for the time.
I am getting the following error when trying to create a powerview report. I don't get where is this TemporaryDataSource is and how do I check the permissions on it? that is what this error is pointing to, no? I tried re-installing the
SQL reporting add-in and no go there. SQL Browser services are running. I can see the file in Excel just can't create a powerview report. any and all help is appreciated. thanks.

How to create a folder with date each day?

I've not used Automator, just once to "create" a workflow to create a new folder with a name; but what I want is this:
Each morning at 12:01 am, a new folder to be created with the correct date as the name of the folder.
So for tomorrow, Sunday 23 Nov 2008 at 12:01, I'd suddenly have a folder on my Hard Drive that would have the date like 23 Nov 2008 or 11/23/2008 or 23-11-2008 or similar.
Then at the end of a week I'd have 7 of these; - but I can manually trash them-- I want to create these on my HD since I backup via SuperDuper! each morning (automatically) at 3:35 am (incremental backup to an external La Cie HD) and I want to know if was done, so by having a folder with the date on it I can open the external HD and if I see that that folder with the recent date is there, then I'm confident the BackUp was run.
I have been able to create a workflow to create a folder in Automator, but not sure how to:
1. Have the folder created automatically each day at 12:01
2. How to have the folder label be the date

Amend the path with your Hard Disk name and username. Save as an application to anywhere suitable.
In iCal, set up an event with a daily repeat and an alarm at the time you want it: under 'Alarm' choose 'Open file': then in the next menu which will appear change from 'iCal' to 'Other' and navigate to your script. Enter the date and time.
Your folder will be created as required: iCal does not need to be running. This script gives the folder name as, for example, 'November 22 2008', but it's easy to amend the script if you want something a bit different - for example:

You dont know how to get those run this SQL in TOAD and see select sys_context('userenv','db_name'), sys_context('userenv','session_user') from dual
(OR) open you connection pool properties window in RPD,you will get the DB name and the user name as the schema name

I have Power View on SharePoint 2013. I have both Multidimentional and Tabular model in use.
I have several Report.drlx file in Report libary in SharePoint.

As per my understanding, I think this issue may be caused by your colleague has no permission to access to data source 'EntityDataSource', it is a Kerberos issue. When report server uses ‘Windows authentication (integrated) or SharePoint user’ as the credentials
to access the data source 'EntityDataSource', the authentication would be failed. So we should try to check if the issue is in this scenario. If in this case, we should change the credentials to stored credentials.
Besides, if we don’t configure C2WTS Service Account to use Local System, it needs the following local policy rights:
Act as part of the operating system.
Impersonate a client after authentication.
Log on as a service.

Is there a way to sort pdf by date created rather than by date added?

In iBooks in Mavericks, is there a way to sort pdf by date created rather than by date added?

I noticed that the "Year" information and "Release Date" information are usually wrong.
For example, the song "The Twist" by Chubby Checker has 2007 for the year and 3/5/2007 as the release date. I understand that this is the release date of the greatest hits compilation album, but not the song.
Is there any way to change the dates so that I can sort by year? I would like 60s songs to appear with a 1960s year or release date.

Error ORA-01426: numeric overflow when Creating table with double data type

I am using ODP.NET to create a table with data from SQL to Oracle. The problem is with double data type fields that is equivalent to FLOAT(49) in Oracle. My syntax is:

Do I really need to create virtual channels in data neighborhood in order to access my pci 6034E?

This may sound a little weird, but I would like to know how to configure my 6034E without having to create virtual channels in data neighborhood. Reason being, the data is often lost when users update or search for new instruments in Measurement and Automation.
I have tried using the AI CONFIG.VI, which gives me all the attributes I need...set channel name, device name, device channel, input mode, sensor/actuator type ect.. When I connect the AI READ.VI the value read back is incorrect. Matter of fact as an exapmle, the power supply could be off and I still read 10 Volts. But when I have created a virtual channel in data neighborhood, the data read back is correct.
Is there another way to read back data but not have a virtual channel in the data neighborhood?

you cannot pop-up date picker to just show month and year, but you can set your item format as MM-YYYY

What bapi or FM can create/change vendor master data?

We want to do a rfc to create/change vendor master data .If use BDC,the change function is very very complex,but i can't find any BAPI/FM in sap!

Can we create order for future date, if yes..then what are the settings required for correct delivery date and pricing date to flow

Hi,
It is possible to create an order in the future data. However, to regularise the options in Sales order for Delivery date and Pricing date, please go to doc. type config. using T.Code VOV8 and select the order type. Down there you can see a section for " Requested delivery data/pricing date/purchase order date". You can manipulate using the options there - whether or not you want a delivery date to be proposed in your sales order & also if you want to have the delivery date as the pricing date as well - i think this should meet your requirement.
