CRES upgrade coming October 10th, 2009 - New Times!

Update - 2009-09-29
Based on your feedback, we are delaying the maintenance start time to 15:00 PST (22:00 UTC). The duration remains 6 hours and the day is still October 10th, 2009.
Cisco Systems is pleased to announce a major upgrade of the Cisco Registered Envelope Service (CRES) scheduled for October 10th, 2009. The service will be temporarily unavailable during the upgrade, more information on the maintenance window is available https://www.ironportnation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1483.
This upgrade contains a variety of features and fixes:
New Feature: Automated TLS configuration for Secure Reply
Cisco Registered Envelope Service administrators now have the ability to test and request for provisioning domains for TLS Secure Reply via the UI. Previously, this action required direct Customer Support interaction.
New Feature: PXE Sender Registration
PXE Secure Envelope senders can be configured to receive a welcome email inviting them to sign-up to the CRES User Portal for the purpose of managing their sent Secure Envelopes.
New Feature TLS fall back mechanism
Customers who opt for TLS Secure Reply can now configure their accounts to "fall back" to "Registered Envelope Delivery" if the SMTP-TLS connection fails. This will be the default configuration going forward. Existing customers will need to change their configuration if they want to take advantage of this feature.
New Feature: Progress Bar for file downloads in JavaScript restricted environments
If a recipient's browser disallows JavaScript and the recipient downloads a file, the download progress is indicated by a progress bar.
Fixed: Error Adding Image Via Admin GUI
Fixed: “Forget Me on This Computer” Not Working
Fixed: User Transaction Report Not Working
Fixed: Error Message Missing When Cookies Not Enabled
Fixed: Using a BlackBerry and a Webmail Provider (Gmail, Yahoo!, etc.)
New IP ranges:
As part of this upgrade, we will be moving our outbound email servers to a new set of IP addresses. Customers who have TLS require set up by IP range or firewall rules specific to res.cisco.com will need to modify their infrastructure to accommodate the new IP ranges.
208.90.57/26
204.15.81/26
216.206.186.129/25 *
These ranges can also be queried using our published SPF record.

As a best practice we recommend using the hostname rather than IP range to configure TLS. For more information see Knowledge Base article 1442 http://preview.tinyurl.com/l2nbv7
* This is the original CRES ip range. During this migration we recommend you support all three sets of IP ranges.

Good point.
The old email servers will stop sending mail after the cutover on October 10th.
The new email servers are available now and the team is running TLS connection tests from them. As we get closer to the rollout, we will both send reminders out to everyone and reach out directly to the customers to whom our TLS connection tests fail.

  • I purchased an iPad mini on October 10th.  I want to return it and get the new ipad mini retina when it comes out.  How do I do that if the new ipad mini release date isn't until "later in November", which is beyond the 14 days from my purchase date?

I purchased an iPad mini on October 10th.  I want to return it and get the new ipad mini retina when it comes out. I am currently still within the 14 day return/exchange window but how can I exchange it if the new ipad mini release date isn't until "later in November", which would be beyond the 14 days from my purchase date?  If apple announces a new version of a product you just purchased but won't actually release it for more than 14 days, how can you possibly exchange the one you just bought?  Is my only option to return the one I bought on the 10th (so return by 10/24) and then not have an iPad until the new one is available for purchase?  Or would it make any sense to return the one I bought, get a new one, which would presumably have another 14 day return window, and then exchange THAT one for the new ipad mini w/ retina when it comes out (hopefully within that second 14 day window)?

Call the apple store you got it from and ask them. Sometimes in the past they've extended the 'no questions asked return' but only Apple can tell you for sure.

  • Blue page , Apple Hot News OCtober 16 2009, then it hangs .

Ok now I have no idea what is going on here. My nephew got on my computer today through firefox to do some homework ( he is like 10 years old) assigned by school . HE is a trouble maker and so have that in mind. He was told not to touch anything and just do his homework through the web page he was on and the firefox. I walk away for less than 5 minutes and when I come back, I see that the computer is rebooting . It actually runs from a secondary disk on 10.5.8 and 10.3.9 on primary internal disk. It was booting on the primary ( 10.3.9) , so I asked the kid what happened and he said that it hung and that he pressed the restart button. I thereafter rebooted which did bring the computer up on the external drive which is running on 10.5.8. The problem is a few minutes into the boot, after the computer comes up, somehow it runs something by itself that clears the desktop and replaces it with a blue screen with clouds, and then Apple logo , together with something like Apple Hot News, October 16, 2009 displays, and then page goes blank with a faint column of words displaying about 1/3 way frem the left side. Next is the computer either just hangs ( dies) on that page or it acts as though its going to sleep with screen going off and unresponsive thereafter. It takes pressing the restart button to shut down the computer and depressing it again to restart the computer.
I am not really sure if the kid has done something that has started this but it is happening again and again. I have used the MAC OS disk and ran dissk utility , repair comes out clean and repair permission gives a bunch of messages which I previously have noted that are problems with 10.5.8
I have tried to run activity monitor and console in hope of finding something but I am not knowledgeable enough to do so. Console has barfed over 4000 messages in the past two hours and the mail seems to be the process that is using most cpu , other than that I guess I am just sitting and waiting for it to happen again so maybe I see something. I am actually afraid of walking away even for a minutes as it seems that its like waiting for me to walk away so that it crashes
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Update: Using Remote Install I was able to remotely boot my mac from another laptop's CDROM drive and run Disk Utility from the installer which again passed with out errors like the fsck command.  I also repaired disk permissions.  Upon reboot to the internal SSD, I am again getting the same blue screen.
So, since I can boot remotely and my disk seems to check out ok I am guessing now that there is something wrong with my OS, some kind of corruption has occurred, but that is just a guess.  It is possible I guess for there still to be an actual hard drive or hard ware failure of some kind.
    Any help is still appreciated.

  • New Time Capsule will not back up my 2009 MacBook Pro. I can see and find my last back before Mavericks but cannot backup.

New Time Capsule will not back up my 2009 MacBook Pro. I can see and find my last back before Mavericks but cannot backup. The TC will not allow me to delete or start a new backup disk. My 2024 MacBook Air did the same yesterday but today it backs up.

Seems to be working now. I left the MacBook on all morning trying to back up and now works.

  • HT3275 My New Time Machine is saying 129 Days to BackUp!

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion.  The time machine disk was full after it's first backup, so I bought a new  drive for Time Machine.  First, I copied the BackUP's file to the new drive after reformatting correctly.  When hooked up, it was just stuck in Preparing mode for a couple of days.   So I ended that, thinking that can't be right.  I decided to just just trash the old Backup's file and forget about the months of backups I kept. I reformatted the drive and then made it the main Time Machine back up starting from scratch.   This things been running for 2 days and it's still saying 129 Days of time to back up.  It's got like 5G of 620Gig backed up..
Anyway, this can't be right.. should back up overnight or even 1 day, correct?  Why is it sooooooo slow, and only has 5G of the drive backed up after a full day?
Also, I bought a new iMac so that's coming in next week anyway.. but thought I'd get this backed up for now.

    I need some clarification.
This discussion area is about Time Capsule..
When you say Time Machine disk was full do you mean Time Capsule?
But the prcess you describe of copying the backup from one disk to another is unlikely.. this is more likely an external drive.
How is this external drive plugged in? How is it formatted?
Please copy one very large file to it and get a peak transfer speed from Activity Monitor.. to make sure it is working ok.
If the internal drive of the computer is corrupt or low reading.. it can be extremely slow to copy files for TM.
Please run a verify of the main drive. To do it properly you should boot from original OS dvd so you can do full disk scan using disk utility.
    See A5 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Fill in the details and then we have some hope of understanding the issue.

  • Cisco Registered Envelope Service Upgrade coming November 5th, 2011

Cisco Systems is pleased to announce a major upgrade of the Cisco Registered Envelope Service (CRES) scheduled for Saturday, November 5th, 2011 from 18:00 – 00:00 PST (Sunday, November 6th 02:00:00 – 08:00:00 UTC).
During the maintenance window it will not be possible to open PXE encrypted messages. CRES admins will not be able to log into the administration interface and senders of PXE encrypted messages may receive bounce messages. All services will be restored once the upgrade is concluded. Any bounced messages can be resent at that time.
This upgrade contains a variety of features and fixes:
    SAML Authentication
SAML is an XML-based standard primarily used for Single Sign-On (SSO), a simpler way for end-users to authenticate with multiple web services such as CRES. Currently only SAML 2.0 is supported.
Single Sign-On means users log in once to authenticate (with an Identity Provider) and thereafter use a range of services from Service Providers without having to log in again. The protocol also supports Single Log-Out
This simplifies the user experience, and improves security because the user no longer has to remember login details for multiple services. CRES support for SAML works for new and existing CRES envelopes. SAML authentication must be enabled individually for each corporate account. After this is done, all users in that account must authenticate with SAML. Any users not owned by the account will continue to use CRES authentication.
    Email Address Book
An address book has been added to CRES 4.0 user accounts to allow you to store and easily access frequently-used addresses. Now, when you compose an email, you can select from the addresses stored in your address book.
    Partial list of resolved issues
Fixed: Cannot Open Certain Envelopes on IE7
Fixed: Envelope Opener does not clean up Sessions if Interrupted by Application Restart
Fixed: The CRES Server does not Have the Class 3 Valicert Certificate Installed
Fixed: Security Problem When Changing WebSafe password using Forgot Password Link
Fixed: Remembering Passwords in Certain Environments Sometimes Fails
Fixed: Reassigning User Does Not Work in the Administrator GUI
Fixed: Changes to Customizable Buttons Sometimes Fail
Fixed: UTF-8 characters in Email Address not Preserved During Secure Forward or Secure Reply
Thank you for choosing Cisco IronPort Security Products.
    Best Regards,

  • LabWindows/CVI 2009 Run-Time Engine update

I wanted to let everyone know that NI has released an udpated CVI 2009 Run-Time Engine. Information on what bug(s) this update fixes can be found here. If you are currently not using the CVI 2009 Run-Time Engine, you do not need to install this update.
This is an updated installation of the CVI Run-Time Engine, not a patch. If you download and install this update it will upgrade whichever version of the CVI Run-Time Engine you currently have to version 9.1.0.428 (CVI 2009 released with version 9.1.0.427). One way to find out which version of the CVI Run-Time Engine you have installed is to view the version number of c:\windows\system32\cvirte.dll. If you install version 9.1.0.428, any installer distributions that you create from any version of the CVI ADE will include version 9.1.0.428.
If you have not yet installed LabWindows/CVI 2009, it's recommended that you install this update, either before or after you install CVI 2009.
    Luis

To be clear, the original problem that you reported ("Attempt to free pointer to memory not allocated by malloc() or calloc()") might very have been the problem that this patch fixed, which was in fact new to 2009. But that problem only happens if there were actual plots in the graph.
However, after looking at the "dynamic memory is corrupt" isse some more, it turns out that it is actually expected behavior, believe it or not. This is a limitation of easytab controls, caused by how they use callback chaining in their implementation. Whenever a panel or a control has its callback chained, you cannot change the callback, or make a copy of it after the chaining takes place. This is described in the EasyTab_ConvertFromCanvas function help ("...For the same reasons, do not call DuplicatePanel or DuplicateCtrl on any of these panels or controls after the Easy Tab control has been created.").
As you probably have read elsewhere, easytab controls are quite obsolete. They were a stopgap "solution" to the problem of there not being a native tab control in the CVI user interface library. Native tab controls were finally added in CVI 8.0, and so we recommend that, if possible, users update their code to use these instead.

  • How do I migrate multiple sparsebundles from my old time capsule to my new time capsule?

My old 1tb time capsule died on me last week. I bought a new 2tb model. I have put the old disk in an enclosure and I can access the data on it.
The old time capsule was used to backup three Mac's. How do I migrate the three sparebundles to the new time capsule? I want to keep all the backup histories.
I found lots of sites with tips but they all assume that the old TC was used to backup only one Mac.
I run Lion on my main Mac and all time machines were configured to backup via wireless.

    It worked. Kinda. I think.
I did the steps outlined in option 3. It took 2,5 days to do it (maybe because I had already switched to wireless).
Once the copy of the files was complete I actived time machine and selected the new time capsule as my backup. It said there was no backup history. But then it started backuping. Instead of the full disk (as I thought it would do, as it said there was no backup history) it only did about 35Gb. Which was what I had expected. I had just upgraded to Lion. After that backup it immediatly started again and did a backup of 40 Mb. (Why ???).
After that was done I started time machine and all the old backups were there (eg 2010) as a test I restored a file from Jan 2010. And it worked.
So now the other two sparsebundles to do.
@Jolly Giant: Thank you for the help and advice.

  • Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule?  It used to work with old Airport Extreme with updates thru Snow Leopard but now seems to only allow WEP encryption instead of WPA.

Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule?  It used to work with old Airport Extreme network, run from a intel iMac with updates thru Mavericks but now seems to only allow WEP encryption instead of WPA and can't connect to Time Capsule.  Airport Extreme Base was controllable from either computer up through Snow Leopard (I didn't do any of the Lion upgrades).  Then when I upgraded to Mavericks I lost the ability to use Airport Utility with this hardware on the Sunflower but could still connect wirelessly to network without any problems.  But now with the Time Capsule upgrade the Sunflower is blocked from network by a dialogue that requests ony WEP password, not WPA pwd used by Time Capsule.  Neither can I use the old airport extreme base to extend the time capsule network since I can't input the correct password/encryption approach to join it.  Is there a work around?  Would a newer but old Airport Express be able to extend network to Sunflower?  Or maybe a third party wireless (such as Netgear, Dlink, etc) that has browser type control rather than special utility?
Another question--before I used MAC addresses to control who could access network.  Now on Time Capsule I don't see anything about this--so is it true now that the only access control is via WPA2 pwd now (which appears to be the encryption pwd and not the time capsule pwd)?

Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule?
I can’t claim to completely grasp the issue(s) you’re describing, but the underlying problem is presumably your iMac’s obsolete AirPort card. Whatever the case, an obvious (if not particularly helpful) answer to your stated question would be to connect your iMac with an ethernet cable, using powerline adapters as an alternative if you don’t want to have wire running all over the place.
My still fully functional clamshell iBook, with an original AirPort card, connects wirelessly to my 4th Generation TC network by means of a cheap 802.11b/g/n USB Wi-Fi adapter. This might be an option for you too.
Another question--before I used MAC addresses to control who could access network.  Now on Time Capsule I don't see anything about this
When you edit your TC's settings the access controls appear under the Network tab, don't they?

  • Due to NAS issues, when I started a new time machine backup it did not have the old backups available. My question is do I need to delete them or will time machine automatically reclaim the space?  Only one Sparse Bundle, same name.

Due to NAS issues, when I started a new time machine backup it did not have the old backups available. My question is do I need to delete them or will time machine automatically reclaim the space?  There is only one sparse bundle but when I enter time machine I don't see my historic backups.  I use a synology DS212 for my time machine.  Started a new backup which is 218gb but it says 618 gb is occupied  therefore it looks like 2 or 3 backups are still on the disk. Before my NAS issues the last backup was in 2014.  As you can see there is a second sparse bundle from 2012.  Not sure what that is.

This is an old message now, but what happened to me similarly was:
I had a major computer crash and through complicated pathways ended up reinstalling (Mavericks) as a new user (long story).
At least I had good Time Machine backups on an NAS drive (Synology DS212j), or so I thought - when I started Time Machine up again, the old backup file was gone, replaced by a new one using my "new computer" name. The old file was gone both by directly mounting the NAS drive and by clicking "Enter Time Machine".
It's like I had {OldShareName}.sparsebundle and then it was replaced by {NewShareName}.sparsebundle, all of the old info vanished.
(I have spent a week finding old files elsewhere and have completed a satisfactory self-restore. It pays to "archive" [my own variation of] as well as "back-up".)
My belief is that if this were a wired-netword-drive, e.g. plugged right into my iMac with a USB cable, then the old file would have remained.
But this is an NAS drive, connected directly to my Airport wireless router, and I don't know the significance of the fact that it stores its Time Machine backups as "sparsebundle" files rather than simply as plain(er) files.
As usual when things get complicated with computers (not just Apple computers) there was never a warning message. Something like "YOU'RE ABOUT TO DELETE A TIME MACHINE BACK-UP FILE!!!" would have made my life a lot simpler.
BTW, I did try a "restore from Time Machine" option the first thing I had my "new computer" (old hardware, 2009 iMac) up and running, using Migration Assistant, and it ran for many hours and then failed in the wee hours - what that has to do with anything I'm not sure.
I'm not sure that I have a question about this other than "why do these things happen to me?", but it's a warning. Apart from that I've been very happy with the stability and reliability (but not the cost or set-up complexity) of NAS vs. directly-cabled external drives.

  • I lost my Visual Voicemail when upgrading to iphone 5. New phone was set up from itunes backup of iphone4 but my Mac tells me there is an iCloud back up of my phone prior to this date. Will my Vis Voicemail be on this and can I get it on my new phone?

I lost my Visual Voicemail when upgrading to iphone 5. New phone was set up from itunes backup of iphone4 but my Mac tells me there is an iCloud back up of my phone prior to this date. Will my Vis Voicemail be on this and can I get it on my new phone?

I see.  Apple's documentation on what is included in the iCloud backup doesn't explicitly say that it contains voicemails, but that doesn't mean it does not.  You would just have to try restoring the backup to find out.
To restore to your iCoud backup you have to start by erasing the phone.  Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  Then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud backup.  You will then sign into your iCloud account, accept the terms and conditions, then choose the backup you wish to restore from.  To see an older backup, you may need to tap "Show older backups" (see image below).  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this may take some time to finish.
If this does not recover your voicemails, you can check to see if you have an older iTunes backup that may contain them.  Available backups are shown in iTunes Preferences>Devices on the Backups list.
If all else fails, you could try contacting your carrier.  Voicemail is a carrier feature and they may have an archive you could access.

  • IPhone and Other 2.4GHz Units Don't See New Time Capsule Net

Problem: My iPhone and other 2.4GHz equipment do not see my new Time Capsule network.
I had an old circa 2006 Apple Extreme network and decided to upgrade with a dual-band Time Capsule. After setting up the Time Capsule with as close to the old settings of the AEBS as I could, I am no longer able to see the network with either my iPhones or other 2.4GHz units. I'm currently running with only the Time Capsule. The AEBS is off, although I do intend to add it to the network after my initial configuration problems are solved. I've searched the discussions for problems like mine and worn out Google looking for the answer. I'm stumped.
Here are some of my setting on Airport Utility:
    Create a wireless network
Allow this network to be extended is checked
Radio Mode: Automatic (I've tried several combinations by holding down the option key, but none seemed to change anything)
Radio Channel - Automatic (summary shows 149 (automatic) and 3 (automatic) currently
Wireless Network Options - use wide channels is checked
    Guest network enabled
    Internet Connection is PPPoE

do you know what encryption is being used?
    is the same at work?

My new iPad with Retina Display is not able to connect to the Wi-Fi of my new Time Capsule. It use to connect, but now it just spins and spins and never connects. I've tried rebooting everything many times.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • World Clock doesn't reflect new time in Santiago

World clock on my iPad and also iPhone don't reflect to new time in Santiago, who went one hour forward on Saturday night.
    Any ideas?

The iPad, iPod, iPhone doesn't recognize the change. Officially (to the world) the "summer time hour" change last days of October in Chile, not early September. You need to change the hour manually and choose Buenos Aires time hour.
Three years ago, the Chilean government forward the summer time hour.
    I hope this help.
