CS4 Underlining???

I'm currently using CS4 to creat a world/wide stamp catalogue for the Polar Regions.  My nephew created my original doc. & I'm still finding my way thru the doc. as it stands...
All my country listings are underlined with a bold, solid black line that goes all across the page.  I'm trying to find a way to duplicate this solid line but looking into the "Underlining Menue" isn't helping.
How do I create a new solid line for each new country listing with/out distrubing the current contents???

The Solid black line underneath the country listings is the "Paragraph rules" ,I think of ...... check the paragraph style applied on the country name and check its settings , you might have the "Paragraph rules" ON ..
To create the new solid line , "Underline" is a good option but it will not extend all across the page , it will be just below the text.
Also you may have to change the settings of the "Underline" from the Paragraph style "Underline options" as your Underline and Rule below line can overlap and you may not get desired result.

  • Underlining text in photoshop CS4

    Hello,
    I am trying to underline text using a vertical text layer.
    However, the underline button does not appear in the character panel.
    Does anyone know why?
    Thank you.

    I am not sure how you expect to underline verticle text, but the option is there in the Character Styles panel.  Look at the Faux text options towards the bottom of the panel.  Underline is second from the right before strike-through.

  • InDesign CS4 - blue wavy underline won't go away

    What the heck is the blue wavy underline beginning about half way through a story, continuing to the end. It's not an object, paragraph, or character style related thing. It's not a spelling, repeats, keeps, kerning or font thing. What could it be? Every character is underlined, regardless of its paragraph or character style. It's visible in layout or story editing mode.

    To find out if you accidentally turned on conditional text, open the Conditional Text panel (Window > Type & Tables > Conditional Text).

    <p class="c3"><strong class="c2">Using Octenol to Attract Mosquitoes<br /></strong><br /></p>
    <p class="c3">Octenol is an natural chemical that occurs naturally as a by-product of plants and some animals that eat a lot of vegetable produce. If carbon dioxide is mixed with octenol, it has been found to be an attractant to several mosquito species. There are other insects such as no-see-ums and biting midges that are also attracted to this scent. It has been proven to be a very effective product, especially for no-see-ums.<br />
    <br />
    <img src="images/12137165-cartoon-stop-mosquito.jpg" width="168" height="168" alt="mosquito" /><br />
    <br />
    Octenol is also a pesticide ingredient that is used to attract mosquitoes and biting flies. It does not kill the insects; it only attracts them. It can be used in combination with other products and devices that do kill them once they are successfully attracted to the device. It is important to be aware that non-pest insects are also attracted and destroyed by some of the devices.<br />
    <br />
    If octenol is ingested, there is a possibility for toxicity. It is not, however, harmful in the air to humans, pets, or the environment. It is vitally important that it is kept safely away from children to avoid the possibility of ingesting. Placement of the attractant and device utilized to catch biting insects should be carefully considered. It should be kept safely away from children and pets.<br /></p>
    <p class="c3">To be most effective in mosquito control, the attractant should be placed between the breeding grounds of the mosquito and the area where the people are located. There are range limits that the attractant will reach and this needs to be considered in the placement of the trap as well.<br /></p>

  • I would like to print links as regular text i.e. not underlined or in a different font and color.

    I have created a page with my resumé, using Dreamweaver CS4 on my iMac (running OS X 10.6.6).  You can see the page here: http://www.peterforkes.com/Resume.html
    It looks great when it is on the screen, but when I print it I would like the links to not be underlined and also to be displayed in the same font (and color) of the text surrounding it (a link is largely useless on a piece of paper, if it it not showing the URL).
    So, I created a stylesheet called "print.css" and have this in it:
    a:link {
    text-decoration: none;
    In my html document (Resume.html)  I have this code, at the top:
    <link href="_css/Resume.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" />
    <link href="_css/Print.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="print" />
    Now, things such as the graphics in my document do not print out (this is how I want it) but links seesm to be doing unexpected things for me.  As I mentioned, when I print the page I would like them to:
    a) not print with an underline (which I would expect the code snippet shown above to do).
    b) I would like the link color to be the same as the surrounding text (I have links in several places, such as in <h2>, <h3> and <p>).
    c) I would like the link to have the same font and text size as the surrounding text.
    Any help is always appreciated.
    Peter A. Forkes

    You've solved it for a:link but you may print the page with the <a> tag in link or visited state so you need to cover both.
    In http://www.peterforkes.com/_css/Print.css
    change
    a:link {
    text-decoration: none;
    to
    a:link, a:visited {
    color: #333;
    text-decoration: none;

  • The underline is in the middle of the links in my spry accordion

    I created a spry accordion menu in Dreamweaver CS4, and when I test it the underline is in the middle of the links in my spry accordion. This is not happening when I test it in a browser on the Mac I'm working on, but when I test it on a PC my rollover links have the line going through the center verses being underlined. The rest of the links on my page are fine, this is just happening when I rollover my submenu links in my Spry accordion when I test it in a browser on a PC. I am a "spry virgin," so please help!!!

    Hello Em_needs_help,
    You posted this message in the InContext Editing Web Developer discussion. I'm going to move your post to the Spry forums where more spry experts will be able to help.
    Best regards,
    Corey

  • [CS3/CS4 JS] How can you get the associatedXMLElement of a merged cell in a table?

    Hi!
    Inserting a table, and autotagging it, I get a table with a number of cell elements in the XML Structure.
    Selecting an item in the table, I can find the associated XML by the following line of code:
    app.selection[0].associatedXMLElement
    My problems begin when cells are merged. Then the associatedXMLElement for the cell returns null.
    How can I find the associatedXMLElement for a merged cell?
    Using the getElements makes no difference.
    app.selection[0].getElements()[0].associatedXMLElement
    (returns null)
    In the XML structure I can see that the merged cell is still associated to an XML Element, which becomes underlined and also referrs back to the cell, selecting it when double clicking the XML Element link in the structure.
    Is there no way to get to the xml element of a merged cell?
    I have tested in CS3 and CS4 as well, and they act in the same way.
    I also found a similar, unanswered, question from Anne-Laure Jallon in the "With CS3, some things have changed" ( http://forums.adobe.com/message/1105813#1105813 ):
    Hello,
    I'm working with VBscript.
    Is there a difference between cell.associatedXmlElement in CS2 and CS3?
    All my cells in CS2 had an associatedXmlElement.
    In CS3, my table has an associatedXmlElement, but all its cells don't (The value is Nothing)
    Is this a bug? Is it linked with XML evolution?   Thanks Anne Laure
    Adding some more info:
    I made a test, by selecting the XMLElement in the structure, and from that object finding the cell, and finding back to the assiciatedXMLElement:
    app.selection[0].getElements()[0].cells[0].associatedXMLElement
    Result: [object XMLElement]
    So that kind of "chain" works.
    But with the merged cell as only reference, I can't find its associatedXMLElement. Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Best regards,

    In my opinion, locate a cell according to his content is not so effortable. What happens if contents of more than two cells are equals?
    I take xml elements of associated xml element of table and put them into an array.
    This array contains associated xml elements of every cell ordered by cell positions into table.
    Now, locate associated xml element of a cell based on its array position (index) is more reliable:
    var myCell_cell = app.selection[0];
    var myElement = myCell.associateXMLElement
    if (!myElement || !myElement.isValid)  {
         var table =  myCell.parent;
         var xml_tab = table.associatedXMLElement;
         var xml_cells_arr = xml_tab.xmlElements.everyItem().getElements();
         var idx = myCell.index;
         myElement = xml_cells_arr[idx];

  • Photoshop CS4 Installer File for Mac

    Hello,
    I bought CS4 for mac (student edition, I am not sure if that matters) a couple of years ago and have since misplaced my disks, though I still have the serial numbers.  Does anybody have the .dmg installer file for CS4?  The file name MAY be photoshop_11_ls1.dmg.  I realize this is a big file, so I am not sure the best way to get it to me, but I do have dropbox, or could it be possible to post it to this forum or mail me a dvd with the file on it?  Thank you so much.  I am desperately in need!!

    ...authentic Adobe CS4 free trial downloads remain available for all products and platforms (Windows/Mac) if needed, it's just a matter of finding the proper places to look on Adobe's servers.  Click on the underlined blue link.

  • Problems opening InDesign CS4 files in CS5

    We have just upgraded to CS5 to take advantage of the tracked changes facility, and immediately encountered problems:
    when opening CS4 files in CS5, we've noticed that formulae, created using charater styles, are not displaying properly.  For example x = y / z, which would have the x and = signs dropped, the y underlined and the z on the next line, something like this (although much prettier than I can reproduce here):
    x = y
          z
    in CS5, however, all gyphs in the formula are superimposed upon each other
    we tried loading the character styles from our template document.  However, that caused most of the content to dissapear!
    we tried converting our template to CS5 and then loading the character styles from our template document.  However, that also caused most of the content to dissapear!
    Anybody got any clues?

    If you are opening the CS4 files directly in CS5, try exporting CS4 files to IDML and opening the IDML files in CS5. It's worth a try if you haven't already found it doesn't help.

  • Is there a qualitative difference between scaling in AE vs. PP? (CS4)

    I frequently customize 1920x1080 AE templates and export them as movies for use in PP. Until now, I have always resized to 1280x720 using AE's "Stretch" option in the Output Module Settings. My other option is to render it at 1920x1080 and "Scale to Frame Size" in PP.
    I can't imagine why it would make any difference where it's downsized, but does it?
    Thanks, everyone.

    Thanks, Jim, but this link from the CS4 Help Manual seems to suggest there is more to it than just visual interpretation. I've excerpted a paragraph below:
    About square-pixel footage
    Many graphics and animation programs generate square-pixel assets meant for display on square-pixel computer monitors. Premiere Pro, however, typically generates files with non-square pixels for display on television sets. Premiere Pro automatically conforms square-pixel assets to the project pixel aspect ratio. After the asset is conformed, however, it no longer has its original frame aspect ratio. Also, its frame aspect ratio is not likely to match that of the project, even if it did before it was conformed.
    For example, suppose you generate a square-pixel asset at 720x540 and import it into a Premiere Pro DV project with an aspect ratio of 720x540. In this case, the asset is wider than the screen when it is conformed. You can use the Scale control to set the size of the asset frame within the project frame. However, to preserve the asset frame aspect ratio, Premiere Pro often either crops the asset or frames it within black bars.
    You can prevent this cropping and framing by carefully generating assets from your square-pixel graphics or animation programs. Choose a frame aspect ratio that, when conformed, matches the project frame size exactly. For best results, use programs such as Adobe Photoshop® and Adobe After Effects® that include pixel aspect ratio settings. Set the frame dimensions and pixel aspect ratio to match the dimensions of your project. If the pixel aspect ratio setting is unavailable in your program, do not try to match the frame dimensions (for example, 720x540). Instead, ensure that the overall frame aspect ratio matches that of your project (for example, 4:3 or 16:9). Premiere Pro automatically adjusts the video so that it is not distorted.
    If your square-pixel program requires frame dimensions, use the option that matches your project output:
    4:3 DV (NTSC) or ATSC SD—create and save the square-pixel file at 720x534.
    4:3 D1 (NTSC)—create and save the square-pixel file at 720x534.
    4:3 DV or D1 (PAL)—create and save the file at 788x576.
    16:9 DV (NTSC)—create and save the file at 864x480.
    16:9 D1 (NTSC)—create and save the file at 872x486.
    16:9 DV or D1 (PAL)—create and save the file at 1050x576.
    16:9 1080i HD—create and save the file at 1920x1080.
    16:9 720p HD—create and save the file at 1280x720.

  • Creating Blue underlined Hyperlinks

    I seem to understand the process of creating a hyperlink but I am having difficulties with the hyperlink appearing in either the InDesign document itself or the resulting pdf output with the right appearance. My hyperlinks work in the PDF document but they lack the blue underline associated with an active link. My options seem to Visible Rectangle or Invisible Rectangle. When selecting Visible Rectangle, I can't find any options other than Invert, Outline or Inset. Am I missing something real obvious here? (CS4 and CS5 are both problematic on this issue)
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
    You will need to style your links in InDesign. You can do this relatively quickly by creating a character style which is blue with underline and then running a GREP find and replace to find all web links. See http://indesignsecrets.com/forum/general-indesign-topics/shortest-grep-pattern-to-address- urls-and-e-mail-addresses for some help. You can set the replace to your new character style.

  • Underlining just the word(s) in selected text string

    How do I get InDesign 2 or 3 to underline just the individual words selected and NOT the spaces?
    We work with legal documents and we have to style them exactly the way the judge has indicated (some underline everything, some just the words). This can become a time consuming endeavor when there are multi-worded court cases cited and sometimes over one hundred cites within one document.
    This was quick and easy under Quark, either from the control palette (click of a button) or the keyboard shortcut (Apple + shift + W). This shortcut closes the document in InDesign (even though the keyboard shortcut for that is supposed to be just Apple + W, both do the same thing). I could reassign the shortcut if I could find the action to link it too (but can't find the action even mentioned in the Help or the forums).
    Have checked under the Underline Options dialog, but there isn't anything there that would solve this problem.
    If there isn't a direct way to do it in InDesign, is there some sort of plug-in available that anyone knows about?
    Thanks in advance.
    LRP2

    I don't believe there's a direct way to do it in Indesign. There are some shortcuts that help.
    In CS4 you can set up a GREP search to find Words, set Change Format to change "basic character format" to include underline, then do a replace all in selection. You can set up keyboard shortcuts for some of this, but a script would be even more convenient.
    Unfortunately, with the normal "Find" function, the "character" wildcard also seems to find spaces, and there isn't a "whole word" wildcard, so this won't work in CS2 or CS3.
    The best I can think of at the moment is: Underline the whole text. Set Find What to find spaces (^w), leave Change To blank but in the Change Format box, turn off underline on Basic Character Formatting. Close the dialog box. Then, placing the cursor at the beginning, press shift-F3 (the standard shortcut for "Replace with Change To text and find next") for each space in the sentence. You can zip through the section fairly quickly.
    This is really a job for scripting -- the script should change all characters in the selection to underline, then change all white space characters in the selection back to non-underline. Scripts can be assigned a keyboard shortcut for ultimate convenience.

  • Underline breaks up after saving as pdf

    Hi everyone,
    I'm creating a form in Illustrator CS4 and I've put in some right aligned tabs and then selected the tabs and underlined them using the underline option in the Characters panel. When I save as a pdf though, the underline all breaks up into small dots, ie. it doesn't keep it as solid line.
    Does anyone know why this happens or if there's a workaround?
    Appreciate any help.

    I had the same problem.   I had a three layer .ai file where I had a web address underlined, and when printed (or viewed as a .pdf) the underline appeared as dashed lines.   I think it is some sort of corruption in the partiuclar .ai/.pdf file.
    I underlined some Helvetica text in CS4 (14.0.0).
    The .ai/.pdf file both look fine in Illustrator.
    Viewing in Illustrator 14.0.0 shows a solid line but prints as dashes.
    Viewing in Acrobat standard 7.1.4 shows a dashed line and prints as dashes
    I tried various pasting options to a new document, and after several trys for some reason it started printing and viewing as a solid line.

  • Bridge to CS4 64 bit Vista - Problem with bit depth

    I'm using Camera Raw in Bridge and CS4 64 bit. When the Camera Raw window opens in Bridge, the image is shown in 8 bit mode even though shot in 16 bit. I could not find a setting in either the Bridge or CS4 Preferences that accounts for the down sampling. If I do the same raw conversion in Lightroom, this down sampling doesn't occur. Any ideas? Thanks

    <i>

    <br />
    <br /> Those options are sticky, which means they will remain in place until you change them again.

    I used to use Photoshop on Windows and I'm now running CS4 on my Mac. Does anyone know where I can download a set of filters that I can put into the Photoshop folders so they'll show up with the default ones that will allow me to change the lighting, B/W, contrast, color, etc? I used to have this on the Windows version but I can't find one that works within Photoshop so that I can just select them from the list instead of installing another stand alone program that does it.
    Any ideas?
