CS6 cant open certain file extensions

i have cs6 installed and for quite some time i havent been able to open .idml and .indd files, cs6 keeps giving me this message: "could not complete your request because it is not the right document."?

If you have a look here it would appear that you need to open the files with InDesign

Perhaps you need to save the files as a different format while it is in InDesign

Cant open a file made with older aftereffects

i just downloaded this file from the internet it is a aftereffects template. i downloaded the aep file and tried opening with AE cs6. it said that it cant open cuz its made with a old version of AE. I am pretty sure that it should have backwards compatibility, i mean i would understand if CS4 cant open CS6 file. but if CS6 cant open CS4 file that's weird, and i am really confused.

Are you sure the file is CS4 and not AE4. CS6, according to the documentation CS6 can open AE7 and newer files.
The file could also be corrupted.

Is there any timeline soon that apple users will be able to open things that need adobe flash player? I can not even play any games on Facebook, I can't open certain files, pictures sent to me or things like forms I news to see when I am not home

I am so frustrated about Adobe Flash player. I can not play any Facebook games, open certain files and pictures and documents that I need to access because not only does this phone not do it but my old Palm Pre couldn't do it either. I have had so many times where I needed to access things either online or via email, or message that I can not even look at because of this. I have to wait until I for home or ask someone else to do it for me which is embarrassing. I rave about my iPhone 4S all the time because it is truly great except for this. When it use to happen with my Pal Pre I figures once I got my iPhone that it wouldn't happen anymore but I guess I was completely wrong. I have had this problem for years and always get a message saying that it's being worked on. Well a couple of years is a long time to work on it. I understand about contracts and stuff but why is it taking a company such as Apple to be able to get it for their products? I get a lot and always want to play the games on Facebook but I can't do it on most of them at least the ones I have tried. So I can not play against anyone at that time I have to wait until I get home or use someone else's computer or something. Please tell me that in the extremely near future that this will not be a problem anymore. PLEASE!! I am sure I am not the only one out there who is having issues and if you do get it available please let there be an upload/upgrade for current phones and not just for future versions of Apple phones. That just wouldnt be very fair to all of your loyal customers and tell everyone to get your products because they are great and end up leaving this little problem out until they by your phone. Especially if they just got the phone they have. You guys are awesome with technology I have faith that you can make this available to all Apple products old and new by uploads or upgrades. Thank you hopefully can give me some info about the status with this or if there wen is one. I would have thought that being a company such as you are that it would already be taking care of right from the beginning and not wait years to take care of somewhat that is very important ro have especially when there is so much our there using Adobe Flash now. I am not sure if this is just a blog with customers or if the company actually sees these posts but I am just hoping company or not that someone knows something about this. "application cannot be found" when trying to open certain files

Recently i upgraded my computer to Mavericks recently and I've been having a problem opening certain files. In one day I upgraded to Mavericks and I also updated my Adobe programs to the Creative Cloud. Ever since then I cannot open any of my Adobe files. They are all saved as under the CS4 legacy format. I uninstalled CS4 after installing the Creative Cloud. Every time I try to open one of these files previously created in CS4, whether it is a photoshop ot illustrator file, I get the error message "The application cannot be found". I also can see no preview or thumbnails for the files. I talked to Adobe Support and we went through a process of deleting my preferences and it didn't work. I restarted my machine and it worked. It worked for a day and now after starting up my machine today it is saying the same thing again. After a while it just out of nowhere started working again. I'll be clear and say that I was logged into my adobe account and there were no network interuptions.
By the way, the new versions (Creative Cloud) of the adobe programs all work just fine and If I save something then it works fine. It is only when trying to read a file from a previous format.

If you are attempting to start Adobe Creative Cloud by opening a file created by its previous version, open the Adobe Creative Cloud app first, then choose Open from its File menu and select the old file. The files you are attempting to open were associated with the version you used to create them, which is now gone.
After opening them, save them again. From then on, opening them will probably open Adobe CC directly.

Apple keeps books for a short time (used to be 40 days. I've not seen a recent time frame)
What version did you have?
Books do nor exist except in the iPhoto database so you can not "find" a book vista TM. You restore a previous library (be sure NOT to overwrite your current library) and switch to it

Sony NEW RX10 & iPhoto Cant open RAW files

Hey Guys, I know that not ALL RAW files are equal! I just picked up a NEW SONY RX10 and its shooting RAW files in Sony's ARW format.. I see that the NEW a7's are updated in OSX updates, Im assuming that the a7's and the New RX10 are the same ARW format, but I cant open these files in Preview and Iphoto wont see them either! Im using OSX 10.8.5 (ML) and Iphoto 11 (9.4.3) (720.91) Is anyone else having this issue with a RX10 or newer Sony camera with ARW files... Please reply! I really would like to shoot in RAW and use iPhoto to edit! I guess not ALL SONY .ARW are equal????

There you go - that is an incorrect assumption (as most assumptions are - as you know when you assume you make an ***ume out of ***ume & assume) - every RAW format for every camera is different and requires specific support for tha tcamera - notice in the support list that many different cameras in the same family are listed seperatly
Usually Apple releases Sony RAW support pretty quickly since Sony is a major manfactuer of consumer and professional cameras
Tell Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
The Sony software that came with the camera may help (although my experiance is that Sony has poor to non-existance support for Macs) and possible the Adobe RAW converter can help until Apple releases the required update
And it is very possible that the update will only apply to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.x so it is possible that you will have to upgrade your OS and iPhoto (both free) - when you do be sure to backup first

thanks for the suggestions weather15 - the firefox help site you directed me to explains what ought to happen but i cant make it work. I shut my firefox browser on my new machine and attach the hard drive from my old machine. I can explore the contents of that drive but when i search it for the suggested folder " %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\" nothing is found. when i try and open firefox from the old drive, the browser opens that is the new version that i have on my new computer with no saved bookmarks! Am I doing everything right?

FileDialog (filtering for certain file extensions)

I have used JFileChooser in the past and was modifying my code to use FileDialog instead as it looks better, looks like the one used by every other Windows program and takes less code to get the job done. My
question is how to filter for certain file extensions in FileDialog as you can in JFileChooser. I cannot seem to figure out how to, so any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
P.S. Also if you know how to turn off all files like you can in JFileChooser, that would also be extremely helpful.

Making an application the default program to open certain files

Hello,
I have a stupid question that has been bugging me for a long time.
I have installed parallels to use windows and when i used its office excel, it prompted me if I want to open the files with window's excel; which I did. Then now everytime I open an excel file on my mac HD, it starts parallels to launch its excel to open. I tried the option of open with "other" and select my mac's excel but this only applies on the particular file. I uninstalled parallels to avoid this problem and it still tries to locate parallel's excel which no longer exists.
So I have everytime to select the file and use the open with option which is very unpractical.
This applies for any other application so is there an effective way to change the "default" application that opens certain files? There must be a way to do that!!!!

Do the following:
1. Click once on any Excel file.
2. From the menubar select File->Get Info
3. In the "Open with" section click on the drop down menu and select the Microsoft Excel, ensuring it's the Apple Mac version that's located in your Applications folder. If it's not listed, select "other" and then navigate to the application.
4. Click on the "Change All" button and confirm.
That's it. Everytime you double click on that file type, it will open in the Application of your choice.

Troubleshooting 101: What OS? What camera? What version of Camera Raw do you have installed?
Odds are you either need to update Camera Rae to 4.6 (the last for CS3) or download the DNG Convertor 5.4 to convert recent (as in the latest Rebel or 5D M3's).
A place to stop regarding compatibility would be the Camera Raw product page and if you had bothered to mention your OS we could point you to downloads as well.

i thought i was able to open xmp files with ps element 8. am i missing something or
does this program not do it? I have over 560 pictures from a wedding that i cant open. they were taken with a canon camera by a relative and would love to view them! also whenever i click on organize it shuts down pse 8. i'm so fed up with this program already and i just got it today! help!

An xmp file is not an image. Usually those are the files containing the settings used for raw conversion, any metadata keywords, and other data that PS/PSE can't write to the files themselves. If those really are all the files on your disc, contact the photographer, because it sounds like someone made a mistake.

Cross-referencing these two lists, it would appear that the PSE11 updated to its maximum ACR version of 8.0 will read DMC-G5 raws, and XZ2 raws, but not 70D raws, which you'll need PSE12 updated to ACR 8.3 to work with.
What version of ACR do you have for your PSE11? Use Help / About Plug-ins / Camera Raw to find out.
