CS6 master page problems with CS5.5 script

Hi.
I've an extensive script created for CS5.5, that creates 16 documents, styles them, and adds them to a book file.
Under CS6, it still works fine, creates all the necessary stylesheets and master pages, but the master page items are shifted.
I've checked the position with the Page tool, and clicked Show Master Page Overlay, and the centre of the master pages are now sitting at the centre of the spread (which is also the zero point of the ruler).
I've tried versioning for CS5.5, but I can't get it to stick (compiling simply changes CS6 to CS5").
Can anyone tell me how to correct the problem? Ideally, I'd like to append the part of my script that creates the master page. This starts thus:
set currentMaster to master spread "A-Master" of Pub00
set base name of currentMaster to "Standard Pages"
          tell currentMaster
  make guide with properties {orientation:vertical, location:"138mm"}
  make guide with properties {orientation:vertical, location:"140mm"}
                    tell margin preferences of pages
                              set top to topMargin
                              set left to insideMargin
                              set bottom to bottomMargin
                              set right to outsideMargin
                              set column count to docColumns
                              set column gutter to colGutter
                    end tell
... and then I start creating para and character styles, and add various frames with content to the masters.
Another section to create a master starts with ...
tell currentMaster
                              tell page 1
... so should I use the 'tell page 1' block to alter the master overlay, or somewhere else?
Each document only has three different master pages, but I now have to open all 16, and use the Page tool to shift the master overaly, which can be pretty time consuming.
Any pointers would be most appreciated.

I'm seeing this as well, but when I go to override master page items to a normal page.  This code worked fine on CS5, but broke when we updated to CS6.
on override_master_page_items(p)
-- Overrides all possible master page items for a given page.
  tell application "Adobe InDesign CS6"
    try
-- Get the list of items to override
set i to master page items of p
      set b to {}
      repeat with v in i
-- Build the list of items that we will override so we can process it all at   once (for speed)
        try
if allow overrides of v is true then
-- Only override an item if it is in fact possible to do so.
            set b to {b, v}
          end if
        end try
      end repeat
-- Override all the items that we found above.
set overriddenItems to override b destination page p
    end try
  end tell
end override_master_page_items
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have a new macbook pro ( mid 2012 ) and it has the intel core i5 processor.  I just installed the CS6 Master Suite and everything works fine except for Photoshop.  I get the message : You can’t open the application “Adobe Photoshop CS6” because it is not supported on this type of Mac.  Any ideas?  Thanks

Thank you for your response.  Yes it meets all the system requirments.  As a matter of fact I had I had this same software installed on another macbook exactly like this one and had no problem with it.  That's why I just don't understand why I'm having trouble on this one.

  • Template problem with cs5

I've transferred all my sites to cs5 (from cs4).  I build all my sites with DW templates.  When I bring up my pages from any site in DW cs4, I can edit them no problem.  When I bring them up in cs5, all of a sudden I have the "no-edit" symbol (red circle crossed) when I try to type over any editable areas.  Is there a setting that I am missing that I forgot to readjust when I loaded the files in cs5?

I think I'm talking to myself, here...
But just in case anyone has run into this problem with cs5...
I usually create editable regions with content alone (minus divs).  It seems that cs5 won't allow this somehow.  I do this so that my clients won't move the div and can highlight the text that they want to change without screwing up the placement of the divs or having to click on it several times in Contribute in order to highlight the text.
    Example: (This one works)

  • Problems with close event scripts and closing Photoshop

    Hi!
We are having problems with close event scripts ("Cls ") when closing/quitting Photoshop.
The close event scripts are working without problem when closing an image. But when quitting Photoshop without having closed all images we are observing the following behaviour:
with CS2 the close event scripts are not triggered at all
with CS4  the close event scripts are triggered and executed correctly. But after that the Photshop process freezes. No visible GUI, you have to kill the process with the task manager.
I can reproduce this behaviour even with a small script consisting of a single alert('hello') and even an empty script. Is this an known bug or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Master pages working with the books panel

    Hi everyone,
I'm starting a book which will have about 20 chapters in it. I'm using the books panel to work with it all but I'm not sure how to handle the master pages so that they'll work across all chapters within the books panel. I have a 2-page master spread set up with both of the pages having automatic numbering and the left hand spread with the name of the publication. The right hand spread will have the chapter name and this will be the only element that will change from chapter to chapter.
So I wondered if there was a way to set it up so that all the chapters were based on this master page. I'd then need to change each of the chapter headings for each chapter but then if I needed to make a change to the left master page, ie. with the publication name on it, is there a way to make this change on just one of the chapters and then all the other chapters would update to reflect the change.
    Appreciate any advice.

Normally I would say make a second master page for the chapter start nad use that, then include the master pages when synchronizing the book, but there's another thread from yesterday where that is not working for the user, and I'm still trying to figure out why.

  • Problem with CS5 crashing when inserting or deleting page

I have a legacy file (educational textbook) that was created in CS2 and has been edited and updated over the past couple of years with no problems. The file is approximately 360 pages with around 30 illustrations, a ToC, and large index. When updating the material today, I went back to insert a page due to overflow text and InDesign crashed. This happens every time I try to insert or delete a single page. I can insert a single page on pages i through viii, but when I try to insert a page beginning at Sec2:1 InDesign crashes. I can open and close the file and edit it anywhere with no problems.
If I insert 2 pages at a time, it works fine and I can flow the text into the page. But, when I go to delete the extra page I don't need, it crashes. It doesn't seem to be specific to any particular master page in the file. I tried several times to export to an IDML file, reopen and save it to an InDesign file but the same problem occurs.
The same thing happens with the file on the same verson of InDesign that is on my laptop. This problem does not occur with other InDesign files that I have created in the past. I need some help. Thank you!

I think Steve was looking for a bug that affects new Macs, which we can rul out at this point.
I suspect some corrupt text of some sort, but that's just a guess. Ther first thing I'd do is make a copy of the file for backup, then start trying to find the problem.
You mentioned this was a CS2 file originally. What was the last version, and how much editing has beeen done in CS5? Do you have the old file and can you add pages in that version?
In the CS5 version, are you able to select half of the pages at a time in the Pages panel and use the Move Pages command to move them to a new file (you need to make the new file first)? In the new file, before you move the pages, rename Master Page A to something that you didn't use in the file that is giving you trouble so that it isn't applied to any of your pages when they are moved, and open the Paragraph Styles panel flyout menuand choose Load Styles. Load the [Basic Paragraph] style from the problem doc and replace the existing one, then you are ready to move the pages.
If you are able to move the pages, move half the pages into one file, and the other half into a second file. Save both files with new names. This is a divide and conquer search technique to see if we can isolate a problem page. With each half document, see if you are able to add or delete a page. Hopefully the answer will be yes for at least one half. If it's yes for both, move the pages from one of the new docs into the other to recombine them (you may have broken a text thread when moving the pages, so check for that at the point where the two were originally separated), save As with a new name and you should be good to go.
If only one half is working, repeat the exercise with the bad half, moving halves to two more new files. Continue to do this until you are down to a single page from the old file, then remove half the text (or illustrations) and try the test again. You should be able to isolate a problem very quickly this way -- about 8 steps to get a 360 page book to down to one page.
If NEITHER half doc works, it might be a corrupt style (and that may be the problem even if one of the half-docs is OK if that style is rarely used and doesn't get imported). When you move pages to a new doc, the styles will travel with them unless there are same-named styles already there. If you suspect a bad style, you should make a new blank doc, then define, not load, duplicate styles for all of the styles in the problem file, before moving the pages. This may be a lot of work, so an easier alternative might be to place your cursor in each story, then export that story to InDesign Tagged Text (If you ask over iin scripting, someone may have a script to export all the stories at once). You can then place the tagged text into a brand new file and see if that works.
    Keep us posted.

  • InDesign Master Pages; complication with re-appearing master page objects

    Hi everybody!
A short intro to understand the problem: I'm working on a commemorative journal for a dinner that people are submitting text based ads to little by little. The types of ads are divided into different chapters so I made different master page spreads for each section. The ads need to be in alphabetical order so as they come in, I add new pages into the layout and place the ad text into the text box.
Here is the basic structure of my master spreads: there is a text box on each side of the spread that contains an anchored object. I'm using that object as a separator to separate between the ad text and the name of the person who placed the ad. When I insert the ad text, I'm releasing the text box master object and I'm inserting and formatting the text.
Here's the problem: when I add pages to the layout and the pages already in my layout shuffle, in some instances the text box with the anchored object re-appears behind what I've already done through the text (the anchored object is a dotted line so there ends up being a dotted line through the middle of the text). For example, if I have master page A applied to page 3 (right side of spread), when I add a page before 3 (making page 3 into page 4 and a left side of spread), the master object text box containing the anchored object appears behind the one that was the original master object that I released and inserted text into.
I did some experimenting and I found that this only happens when I add an odd number of pages. When I add an even number of pages, the additional master page object doesn’t appear. Also, if I add one page after adding a page, the extra master object disappears. I'm assuming that this is because when I add an odd amount of pages the spread with my text switches sides and the master object from the other side of the spread is appearing. Also, if I manually remove the new master object that appears, a new master object does not appear if I shuffle it again.
Solutions I came up with were either just manually going through the document at the end of the project and removing the extra master objects or applying a white background to the text box so that it would the block the new master object that appears. However, I think there has to be a better solution would be more automatic, leaving less room for human error and being less sloppy that giving white backgrounds to all the text boxes.
In short, I think the problem is that when my pages are being switched to the opposite side of the spread it is adding the master objects of the side of the spread it switched to. So would there be a way to prevent that from happening?
Looking forward to what you guys think.

In short, I think the problem is that when my pages are being switched to the opposite side of the spread it is adding the master objects of the side of the spread it switched to. So would there be a way to prevent that from happening?
That is correct behavior. You could stop using master page objects. Instead, make your anchored frames into a snippet or a library object so that you can drag and drop the thing onto a fresh page for that next arriving ad. I would make the master pages show only grid lines and margin and column guides.
If in CS6, and you are on the master pages, and you designate the selected frame as Primary Text frame, then that might not happen (if I understand your description, which I sorta don't)

  • SWF Problems with CS5.5

I am trying new Flash CS5.5.  Has some new features that I need but having lots of trouble with posting the SWF.  I created a scrolling text "panel" to insert into an HTML document.  I admit I've never built that particular object HOWEVER, when I previewed it via Control > Test Movie, it worked great.
Then I exported the file via File > Export > Export Movie, double clicked it on the desktop ... also worked great.  HOWEVER, when I emailed this file to a friend, the systems (both windows and Mac OS) asked user to select program the created the file.  It would not open without Flash in the background.
I've used Flash CS4 and have never had a problem like this.  BUT, that's not the end of it.  When I went ahead and inserted the file into the HTML doc in Dreamweaver, then hit File > Preview in Browser > Safari (or Firefox), the following message popped up:
"Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation.
The following local application on your computer or network:
    /Users/john/Desktop/jimednorman/Scripts/expressinstall.swf
is trying to communicate with this Internet-enabled location:
    fpdownload.macromedia.com
To let this application communicate with the Internet, click Settings.
You must restart this application after changing your settings"
    The problems are two:
    1. I have no idea what to do in "settings".  It is not clear at all as to what I'm supposed to change.
    2. This still does not solve the problem with the swf file NOT playing unless Flash is running in the background.
Hey, I'm on my knees!  Please help.  I've never seen this and especially never had an issue with swf not playing on its own ... given that the "test movie" ran great.
What did I do wrong OR what have I left undone?  Or do I need a spiritual advisor? (Don't answer that

Hello:  I, too, am new to both the forum and Flash CS5, and am having a similar problem trying to get a Flash .swf file to play on my website.  I've done all the things suggested here.  I have tried "publishing" the fla , but, as dunb as this may sound, once the file has been published, I have no idea where it went.  I can't find it anywhere on my system, and it's not in the site directory in Dreamweaver CS5.  When I test the movie and the scene, it plays perfectly.  When I double click the file, it plays perfectly.  When I export the file to the Dreamweaver page (insert>media>SWF) the gray box appears on the page and when I save the page, all the files get uploaded.  A "Script" directory is created under the root, with 2 files, and the .SWF file is in the root directory as well.  The settings in Dreamweaver are all standard and there is nothing large or weird about the SWF itself.  Essentially, it's a rotating graphic.  Very basic.  But when I open the web page, nothing appears. (Using Firefox).  Even when I switch to IE, the page opens, but the SWF does not play.  I've Googled every web site forum that addresses this issue and I can find nothing to make this work.  When I "publish", I understand an .HTML file is created that should be put into the root of the server, but I have no idea what that file is or where it goes once it's created.  A search for .html files on my system finds nothing more than the files I have created myself.
When I open my web site, instead of just displaying the title "Home Page", it says Home Page - Flash Player Installation - Index.html.
I just upgraded to Adobe Flash, Photoshop, Dreamweaver CS5 after years with Dreamweaver MX and Photoshop CS2.  I've never had Flash Pro at all.
Can someone please tell me what I'm missing or doing wrong?  My hair, fingernails, keyboard, ulcer, high blood pressure and dog all thank you.

  • Bridge 6 will not open common file types - e.g., jpeg, but CS6 has no problem with them

I had had CS5.1 and CS6 on this PC. I uninstalled CS5.1; now, I can open common file types (eg.g, *.jpf, *.bmp) directly from CS6. However, Bridge 6 triggers an error message to the effect that "Windows cannot find (....\CS5.1) - in other words, Windows still wants to associate file types in Bridge *^* to CS 5.1 - not to CS6. As a result, bridge is effectively dead in the water.

Yet another case of what happens when you uninstall an old version with a newer one present.
The old version takes a lot of registry items with it on the way out, leaving empty pointers to itself rather than the new version still present. It's as if the old version uninstaller can't imagine the possibility of anything newer, so it just says to the OS "Photoshop is no longer installed". It's not just file associations, Lightroom users have reported similar problems with "Edit in Photoshop".
Sometimes these pointers can be easily re-established, but more often a full uninstall/reinstall is needed, maybe with a run of the CC cleaner tool tossed in for good measure.
This happens all the time, posts like this trickle through the forum at a steady state. I can't imagine why this has never been acknowledged, and why Adobe officials keep saying that it's perfectly safe to uninstall previous versions. It's not. Yes, it could well be that the bug, or whatever you prefer to call it, is ultimately in the Windows registry. But this happens with such solid regularity that some official recognition would be in order.
The safe procedure is to always uninstall in strict reverse version order, then reinstall.

  • Custom Master Page issue with Document Set Libraries

Details: Publishing site using SharePoint 2013.  The SharePoint is on my company's servers.
Have a custom Master page that has a navigation banner (built with HTML/CSS/javascript).  The site has it applied successfully to the "Site Master Page" but when I also apply it to the "System Master Page", the libraries that have
Document Set type content do not show the files within.   We'd like to be successful in applying to the "System Master Page" as that allows the banner to show when an actual library is accessed.    Any suggestions, please?

Thanks. I've been experimenting with this for a few days now, and there's lots I don't understand about why and such, but your process above works. That's a big load off me right now and I really appreciate it. I'm going to be able to survive the initial
roll-out and implementation of the new site. Going forward, I've got lots to learn and find out, I've already heard that there's a desire to really redesign the master page for the site and subsites, way beyond the little CSS customization I did. Fun.
If you've got a little time though, perhaps you can provide some explanation. If not, no problem.
On step 6, when I do as you detail, click the System Master Page and reset all the subsites, it seems to work fine with my custom master page. If I do that with the Site Master Page settings, my custom page causes the redirect issue in the subsites again.
This is whether I do the Site Master Page by itself, or in conjunction with the System Master Page settings. If I revert back to the Seattle master page in the Site Master Page settings and my custom pate in the System Master Page, the issue goes away again.
It is completely messing with my head, trying to figure out why that would be, and this is all beside trying to figure out why adding the one little CSS reference to the Seattle master to create my master page breaks things (sometimes!).
Just fyi, what I've ended up with for now is pulling my custom master page out of the system and using the Alternate CSS URL to add my custom CSS to the Seattle master page on the sites. As I thought about all this, I decided I didn't want to leave the breakable
custom page out there for some unsuspecting site manager to accidentally pick and get everyone screaming about the broken sites.
    Thanks again,
    Steven

  • Master page objects with drop shadows crossing over spreads

    Mac 10.5.4 - INDesign CS3
I have a book file that is giving me a pretty hard time. There are several master page spreads that do not show as spreads in the book file. The left page from one set of masters with the right page from another set. There is a grouped row of circles that has drop shadow applied that appears on several master spreads. This is built as two groups that meet in the gutter to give the appearance of a row all the way across the spread. When the group is on the gutter between the two pages of the master spread, The object will show up on the both pages of the book spread, on top of the data from the left page master. If we shut off the drop shadow, no problem. If we move the group 0p5 away from the gutter no problem. The problem is that in the end we want this element to have a drop shadow and to run into the gutter.
Does InDesign count the spread of the object effect as part of the object itself? That seems like what is happening. Is there a fix (work around) for this?

The easiest workaround I know of is to paste the object with the drop shadow inside another box such that you can clip it at the gutter. We've cursed this "feature" for years.

  • Kevin's Koffee Kart Master Page Problem

I'm working through Chapter 3 of 'Adobe Muse - Classroom in a book'. Chapter entitled 'Working with Master Pages'.
At the end of the lesson I'm creating a duplicate master, calling it 'MasterFlash' and deleting the Koffee Kart logo. When I apply this master to the Home page and Preview Site In Browser, I encounter a larger header area on my home page, that pushes the rest of the page down.
Is this supposed to happen? If so, I don't understand why.
Many thanks for any advice or help in advance.

Sorry for the delay. No, the Header marked is where is should be.
It seems it has rectified itself but I find the same thing happening on other pages when I Preview them - especially when there's no page specific content on that page.
Has anyone else had problems and glitches with Preview mode?

  • Data Merge Feature in Master page in InDesign CS5

I really need some help, because I'm running out of time...
I'm trying to create a merged document by using the Data Merge Feature in InDesign CS5. Normally it works fine, but right now I'm trying to create one with a .csv file imported in de master page so I can update it later on. That should work, fine but after 16 hours I still dont have a merged document. According to InDesign we aren't even at 25%! It only 142 records spread out over 9 pages. What do I do wrong? Can anybody provide me with an answer?

    Dutch Lauwie wrote:

Dutch, does that mean that you normally use a different kind of file as a data source other than .csv? If so, which? I tried with both .csv and .txt (tab delimited text), and both worked fine for me on a simple test. Both allowd me to update the ID file after I had updated the data source.

How long does something like this usually take for you? Is this a very complicated document when compared to the documents you usually do? You may have some document corruption, so trying the same data file on a new document might be worth a try. You might also want to try trashing your InDesign preferences also.

  • I purchased CS6 and had problems with the Adobe Acrobat Pro so i uninstalled and now need to reinstall but serial number wont work. How can i reinstall ONLY Adobe Acrobat Pro since its included in CS6?

I purchased Design Standard CS6 the entire package. I downloaded and installed but I was continually having problems with Adobe Acrobat Pro. I tried updating to the newest version but it only made the problems worse (acrobat was super slow and constantly not responding). So i decided to try to uninstall and then reinstall the program. Well I uninstalled, and then attempted to reinstall ONLY the adobe acrobat pro but it says my serial number (which is for design standard) will not work. Since Acrobat Pro is included in the suite, i thought this wouldnt be a problem. Is there anyway to get around this without uninstalling the entire design standard and reinstalling everything? I only need to reinstall acrobat pro.

You need to reinstall Acrobat the the Creative Suite, you cannot download it is a separate application and install it that way because it will be looking for a serial number relative to being a singly purchased application.

  • Interactive PDF Form in Landscaped Page; Problems with Additional Pages

    Please see the attached screenshot.
I created a form (in Word) which has 10 pages of the exact same fields except for the side number (the 10 pages number from 1 to 200) which numbers each line to be filled out by the end user.
I have created each field for page 1 (no easy feat as Acrobat 11 did not recognize most of the necessary fields) and all of the checkboxes must be grouped so that only one checkbox is able to be picked.  When I try to distribute each of the fields to the other 9 pages, or even if I copy and paste the fields to page 2, then the fields turn portrait rather than landscaped and I am unable to rotate them.
I have tried extracting page 1, rename it to page 2, update the numbering scheme (which throws everything out of alignment), and then reinsert it behind page 1, and again, it rotates the landscaped fields to portrait.
Is there any way possible for me to EASILY recreate this page nine more times (I have already spent approximately 10 hours working on this one page getting everything created and lined up correctly)?
In doing some research yesterday, I saw that this was a software limitation issue and that Acrobat does not allow fields in landscaped pages to be recreated as landscaped fields (I do not have this problem with the same type of form created in portrait pages and can distribute fields all day long through pages and pages of PDFs.
Does anyone have any suggestions or guidance that I can draw upon other than having to create each page separately (I just do not have the time as the one page took me about 10 hours)?
    Thank you so much!

    That's very disappointing ...
    Thanks Bernd, for your answer!
