.CSV FILE PROGRAMMING
I'm using write to spreadsheet file for dumping the data of the test. I have 5-6 different variables each holding different kind of results (basically voltage values, time stamp). I want to write single variable results in one page and second variable result is another page and so on, can I do this using write to spreadsheet file api ? I can use report generation toolkit for excel to accomplish this, but was wondering is it possible with write to spreadsheet file ?

The Write to Spreadsheet File does not create "pages". It's misleading when it says "spreadsheet" in the name. It creates a text file, not an Excel workbook. As such, text files have no "pages", or sheets, like a workbook.
Yes, you can use the Report Generation Toolkit for this. You can also program it yourself using ActiveX (which is what the toolkit uses under the hood). For your next question, "how do I do this myself?", search the forum, as TONS of examples have been posted on controlling Excel via ActiveX. Lots of links to examples also exist in the Excel thread. NOTE: DO NOT POST QUESTIONS IN THE EXCEL THREAD.

Loading records from .csv file to SAP table via SAP Program
Hi,
I have a .csv file with 132,869 records and I am trying to load it to an SAP table with a customized SAP program.
After executing the program, only 99,999 records are being loaded into the table.
Is there some setting to define how many records can be loaded into a table? Or what else could be the problem?

A datasource need a extract structure to fetch data .It is nothing but a temp table to hold data.
First you need to create atable in SE11 with fields coming from CSV file.
Then you need to write a report program to read you CSV file and populate your table in BW .
Then you can create a datasource on top of this table .
After that replicate and load data at PSA and use to upper flow.

Differents between open csv file by mannually and program automatically?

I haved been consfused by a problem deeply.
Why a csv file if already open can be detected by mannually. can't be detected by program automatically.
I verify this phenomenon by below procedure:
First:
Execute <simple_ErrCode_modify_by_NI2.vi> at both computer respectively.then open csv file mannually,thus two programs both can detect the csv file already
open. also can enter case5 and wait case5's loop.
Second:
Compare with First produre.firstly,execute <simple_ErrCode_modify_open_csv_atloop1.vi> in one computer , Adding while loop after open/creat/replace file ,thus
can maintain csv file open all the time.
secondly,execute <simple_ErrCode_modify_by_NI2.vi> in the other computer.I find that <simple_ErrCode_modify_by_NI2.vi> cann't enter case5.
Through above,
I confused that why program can detect csv file already open by mannually.
cann't detect csv file already open by the other pragram open.
Why have thus two kinds of mechanism in labview .
Can who great master help me and answer me .

First, a program can have read-only, write-only or read-write access. Second, they can specify exclusive or nonexclusive access to a file. If a program requests and get exclusive access to a file, no other process can open it for any reason.
Now when you open a file manually, what you are really doing is opening it using the default program specified in Windows. So its a matter of how that program opens files.

Is there any possibility of calling file upload program from another program which should pick the file stored in server and upload as we do it in manually selecting the supplier and upload the .csv file by specifying the path.Kindly advice.

I am using a program that creates CSV files which I wish to open with Excel. Currently, the CSV files just open as a raw data sheet on my computer. Support folks said I didn't have Excel as my default program to open CSV files; How do I do this?

You can set the default application via Windows Explorer to make Firefox offer that as first choice (right click a CSV file > Open With).

Create CSV file through a program in background
Hello everyone!
I'm facing a problem using class CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES to generate a csv file.
I have a report in SCM that will export data from APO to some csv files.
At this moment I'm using GUI_DOWNLOAD method, it works perfectly! The problem is that this program is supposed to run in a background job, and as far as I read and searched for it.. GUI_DOWNLOAD and GUI_UPLOAD are not supposed to run in bakcground because of a "client-server" problem... well.. ok...
So... I tried with the "OPEN DATASET" and it worked fine also, but now comes another issue: the "open dataset" method only writes/reads files located in the system server(is that right?)... and my file will be located on another location in the intranet.
What should I use to generate this csv files in a background job!?

Martinthere isn't a "client-server" problem...background jobs have no connectivity to a gui/presentation server and therefore no ability to upload/download to a desktop target....
You can save, as noted, to any server visible to the SAP instance you're executing on. I would recommend that you look at a multi-step process....
create your internal table
store that internal table in a file on your apps server (comma-delimited is okay, but tab-delimited would be much better choice)
if you need to place the file where another system can access,
utilize FTP capability in SAP to "copy" or "send" that file to an FTP target, after you have successfully written the file to the APPS server.
If the file can be retrieved by a SAP user,
write or utilize an existing piece of code to grab the file, upload into SAP and then utilize GUI_DOWNLOAD to transfer to the user's desktop target.
This allows you to have both a background process, but have the file accessible to an SAP user after the file has been created. I have several processes that do this and retrieval by the user is both easy and convenient, since the user is notified by my background job that the file has been created, etc. -

Transfering .csv file from SAP to NON-SAP using FTP connection

I am able to place the .CSV file successfully to other system using FTP connection, but when i open the file I could see the gaps between each record. I mean 1st line with the 1st record and 2nd line having a GAP and 3rd line with the 2nd record and so ..on as shown below

I need to monitor a transducer block parameter and save it to a CSV file.
How can I monitor a transducer block parameter and save it to a CSV file? The reason is that I need to do some long-term testing of an FFb device we are developing, and I need to read the primary output parameter of the transducer block (not the scheduled AI block) every second or two and save to a CSV file.
I have tried to figure out a way to do that with FBUS Configurator, unsuccessfully, and I purchased FBUS Monitor, as that was recommended by an industry expert, but I have been unsuccessful at getting that to work as well.Hi Wpinson,
Neither FBUS Configurator nor Monitor can meet your requirement. However, there are other approaches. NI-FBUS provides APIs for C, LabVIEW, VB and C#. You can use these APIs to read a parameter value of any block and use standard file IO functions to save the date into CSV file. The LabVIEW APIs are highly recommended because they are easy-to-use and LabVIEW also provides APIs for CSV file operations. You can build the application w/ LabVIEW in a short time.

Memory problem with loading a csv file and displaying 2 xy graphs
Hi there, i'm having some memory issues with this little program.
What i'm trying to do is reading a .csv file of 215 mb (6 million lines more or less), extracting the x-y values as 1d array and displaying them in 2 xy graphs (vi attacked).
I've noticed that this process eats from 1.6 to 2 gb of ram and the 2 x-y graphs, as soon as they are loaded (2 minutes more or less) are really realy slow to move with the scrollbar.
My question is: Is there a way for use less memory resources and make the graphs move smoother ?

Some notes:
- Each graph has its own data buffer. So all data wired to the graph will be buffered again in memory. When wiring a (big) 1d array to the graph a copy will be made in memory. And you mentioned 2 graphs...
- load the array in parts: read a number of lines, parse them to arrays as before (maybe using "spreadsheet string to array"?), finally append the parts to build the big array (may lead to memory problems too).
- avoid datacopies when handling big arrays. You can show buffer creation using menu->tools->advanced->show buffer allocation
- use SGL instead of DBL when possible...

If I double click a .csv file in Windows Explorer, then Excel runs and the file is opened.
Is it possible to get LabVIEW to do this?
The problem is, I don't know which version of Excel will be installed, and I also need to accomodate future versions.
Everything I've found with a search seems use to system_exec.vi with a constant pointing to the location (in c:\program files\microsoft office....etc) of a particular version of Excel
So what I want is to have a button which fires an event which takes the specified .csv file and runs whatever version of Excel is installed to open the file.

It's on the right track, but, as is explained here, there needs to be a further pair of quotes in the command line.
So it actually needs something like cmd.exe /c start "" "c:\path\file.csv"
If the extra quotes aren't there then it opens a command prompt window with the path and filename as the window title (WHY???)
But using START is the correct solution, so I'm going to credit you with that.

I am using Apple Mail linked to my gmail account and I am looking for an easy way to convert my contact list in Address Book into a .csv file to import into gmail. Recently, all of my emails have ended up in the Spam folder because I do not have a contact list at my gmail account. You can import .csv files into gmail but I don't want to recreate all of my contacts.

I went through this a couple of years ago and somebody wrote a program for me, but I lost it. Here it is online.
For my purposes, since I'm using MS Excel for Mac is that I select the csv Tab and click add header line. I then rename my .csv file .txt. I then open it in Excel letting Excel know it's a tab deliminated file.

Use PL/SQL procedure to guard against malformed CSV files before upload
Hi all,
In my CSV upload utility, I've implemented error checking procedures, but they are invoked only AFTER data has been uploaded to temp table. This doesn't catch the following sample scenarios:
1. The CSV is malformed, with some rows shifted due to fields and separators missing here and there.
2. User has chosen a wrong CSV to upload (most likely number of fields mismatch)
I'm wondering if it is a good idea to have procedure to read in the CSV, scan each line, count the number of fields (null fields but with delimiters showing the field exist is ok) for each record. If every single record matches the required number of fields for that table, then the CSV is ok, and the insert from external table to temp table is allow. This will ensure at least the CSV file has a valid matrix size for the target table, but rest of error checking is left until after temp table is populated.
One of my concerns is, I specify "missing field values are null" in the external table parameters, which is necessary since not all fields are required. Does this specification causes a row with missing trailing separators still considered valid? If so then the stored procedure must be programmed to omit such a case.

G_FLAG is a global variable with default value ='N' in my package. When web_adi upload
first row from excel sheet, then procedure delete all data from table and change g_flag to 'Y'.
All other rows uploads succesfully; it works fine.
But when user change data in excel sheet and try to upload second time. DELETE_OLD_DATA procedure doesnt work in proper way.
I have found what problem is. when user use same template and try to upload data several times there is same SESSION_ID in database.
i.e. g_flag ='Y' when user try to upload second time. But when user log off and create template again it is work properly.
My question is: How i can different upload attempts? May be there is some id for each upload proccess.
if i can use this ID in my procedure user will have opportunity to use same template.
