Custom Finders

Is it possible to implement a finder that achieves "Select from myTable where id1='abc' and id2='def' and id3='ghi'" The number of arguments in where being variable (i.e 1 to 3).
I tried using a finder with the following EjbQL "SELECT OBJECT(p) FROM myTable AS p WHERE p.id1=?1 and p.id2=?2 and p.id3=?3" and only supplied the search criteria that i wanted but it didnt work.
I tried using the finder as follows and it didnt work:
find("abc" ,"" ,"") or
find("abc" ,"*", "")
Any suggestions on that??
Thanks

Greetings,
Is it possible to implement a finder that achieves
"Select from myTable where id1='abc' and id2='def' and
id3='ghi'" The number of arguments in where being
variable (i.e 1 to 3). Generally, "no". This is contrary to the Entity Bean specification:
"An [entity bean] defines one or more finder methods, one for each way to find an entity object or collection of entity objects...." - EJB 2.0 Spec., 9.5.2 (emphasis added).
Which, generally, is why it doesn't work in CMP... the container implementor is constrained by the specification to implement behaviour that is consistent, in this case, with the above...
I tried using a finder with the following EjbQL
"SELECT OBJECT(p) FROM myTable AS p WHERE p.id1=?1 and
p.id2=?2 and p.id3=?3" and only supplied the search
criteria that i wanted but it didnt work.The following is of additional relevance here:
"The arguments of a finder method are used by the entity bean implementation to locate the requested entity objects." - ibid.
Note the specific use of the term "entity object" in reference to what a finder attempts to locate. While Entity Bean instances must be populated ("loaded") from the resource against which they map, this is merely the means to an end ("enterprise data - 'entities' - representation"), and not the end itself ("resource mapping"). The specification is always careful not to denigrate Entity Beans into a semblance of "data accessors"...
I tried using the finder as follows and it didnt
work:
find("abc" ,"" ,"") or
find("abc" ,"*", "")As implied above, the reason this "does not work" is because, since all arguments are being used to locate the "requested entity object", no entity objects are found which match all search criteria. ;) IOW, either where "id1='abc' and id2='' and id3=''" or where "id1='abc' and id2='*' and id3=''".
Any suggestions on that??If you need CMP then I suggest that you: first, implement a finder for each search criterion; and, second, front your entity bean(s) with a (stateless) session bean, or other business adapter, which can accept the search data in variable form (e.g. as pairs in a HashMap), and call the appropriate finder method accordingly. However, it is noteworthy that in BMP the implementation of desired behaviour is (mostly) at the disrection of the bean coder... ;)

  • Custom finders in CMP dealing with BMP Beans as parameters

    Hi all,
    I need to create a custome finder method in a CMP Bean which has a parameter of type EJBLocalHome which is a BMP bean that has been already built. The problem is, I can't understand how to write the EJB-QL part of the finder. I will give some examples of my situation :
    CMP Finder definition :
    findByCustomer(CustomerLocal customer);
    The CMP bean which I want the finder to be implemented has a CMP field for the Customer's primary key which is of type Integer. But, I need to pass a CustomerLocal object to the finder. How can I write a EJB-QL to this situation ?
    Is there any known patterns for CMP-BMP relationships...?
    Thanks.
    Indy.

    Hi,
    Your first point is, I think, is out of the question because, if you call a business method, then the bean will be loaded. That will lose the sole purpose of finders.
    Second Point : There may be situations or projects that have to deal with CMP as well as BMP Beans together in a single project for reasons like the BMP beans coming from an already existing development. So, I can't really agree on your point saying that our design is questionable. We had to do it because, we had no other alternatives like changing all the BMP's into CMP's..
    So, still my question seems to be unanswered....!!!!!!
    Thanks anyway,
    Indy.

    Hi Juan,
    Sounds like you've defined either a java.lang.String where it should have
    said Java.util.Vector (or the other way around) in the part of the
    deployment descriptor that defines your custom finder method parameter.

  • Finders in the deployment tool

    Hi!
    I'm trying to figure out how to write custom finders in the deployment tool.
    But I've run into two problems:
    1. Can I define my own PrimaryKey class that I use to identify the bean and
    how do I configure it in the deployment tool?
    - e.g. findByPrimaryKey(CustomPK pk)
    - Do I need to configure anyhing in the LightWeightCMP tab in the
    deployment tool or is it enough that I give the PrimaryKey class name in the
    General tab?
    2. How do I configure the findAll method in the deployment tool?
    - Is it sufficient that I provide the following information:
    - Name: findAllSQL
    - Type: java.lang.String
    - Value: SELECT C_ID FROM TBL_PARTNER
    Thanks in advance for any help I can get!

    the tab is for the user to fill in the entries of all the EJBs referenced by the module that is selected in the left side tree.
    thus, when you select the client jar, it will show you the EJBs that the client references (as per the deployment descriptor). Likewise for EJBs.
    for simple bmp example, the ejb-jar.xml file does not contain any entries of the type <ejb-ref> where as, the application-client.xml (DD for the client) does.
    the same logic applies to cmpcustomer example.
    hope this helps.

  • Deployment of VisualAge EJBs into iAS

    I want to deploy EJBs (1.1) developed using IBM VisualAge 3.5.3 into ORACLE iAS (the one you can download from ORACLE's web site at the moment). My experiences in a former project were that due some incompatibilites between IBM's and ORACLE's EJB specifications I had to use JDeveloper when I want to deploy EJBs into ORACLE software. Has anyone out there some experiences with the deployment of EJBs developed with VisualAge 3.5.3 into the newest ORACLE iAS, and can you give some tips on what to do (Stay away from deployment, or: you can do this or that to get around the tricky things etc etc) ???

    We actually deployed moost of the samples from IBM websphere/VisualAge to OC4J. We also have customers who smoothly migrated from Websphere/VisualAge to OC4J.
    However in some cases you need to change code if are using any custom features.
    There are a few issues you need to consider while migrating EJB code developed on VAJ3.5.3 to OC4J:
    1. Aceess Beans: If you code is using Visual ages/websphere specific access beans you need to copy ivjejb35.jar file to $OC4J_HOME\j2ee\home\lib directory
    2. Client Code changes:
    In the client applications if you are using IBM specific JNDI server and RMI over IIOP to look up EJBs you need change you code to use OC4J ORMI and OC4J JNDI contextFactory.
    3. Changes to EJB code :
    The main thing you have to keep in mind is VAJ3.5.3 is not fully EJB 1.1 compliant and it uses 'finderhelper' classes to define custom finder methods. Most of the cases OC4J generates these finder. In case if you have custom finders defined in finderhelper classes you can easily customzie the OC4J generated deployment descriptors: orion-ejb-jar.xml to define your custom finders.
    4.Finally you need to generate ejb-jar.xml and ejb.jar files since WebSphere/Visual age only supports serialized deployment descriptors. You can use Jdeveloper or Ant tool to do that.
    Otherwise it is fairly straight forward.If you still till have any specific migration issue you can contact me:[email protected]. Note: We are in the process of releasing websphere 3.5.3 migration guide soon, which will give a step by step migration path from websphere 3.5.x to OC4J.
    thanks

  • CMP Finders and Transactions

    Hello,
    I've got some weird behaviour happening on my finders.
    I've got a CMP bean and a Session bean on top of it.
    The session bean has a method that performs the following:
    1 - creates an instance of the CMP bean
    2 - updates an attribute on this instance of the CMP
    3 - perform another find on the CMP.
    Now the first 2 steps are ok. The 3rd step is a problem.
    If I do a find by PK then it works.
    But if I perform a custom finder that specifies one of the attributes that was updated in step 3, (eg, age=1, where age is an attribute on the CMP etc), then it doesn't return the CMP.
    If I retrieve the bean at this point in time through a find by PK and check the updated attribute, it returns the updated value.
    So it is as if the custom finder is some how executed in a different transaction from the rest of the method, as it doesn't see the fact that I've updated the attribute in step 2.
    Note that if I call the custom finder in step 1, after creation, it works properly.
    I've got the transaction attribute on the session bean to Requires and all the entity bean methods are set to Requires.
    BTW, I'm using OC4J 1.0.2.2.1.
    Any ideas,
    Thanks!!!,

    Hi Murtaza,
    Since you are posting your question to this forum, I will assume that you are using OC4J.
    Although I haven't tried it myself, you can define the SQL to be performed by your "finder" method in the "orion-ejb-jar.xml" file. If you do that, then you shouldn't use EJB-QL, since defining the (SQL) query in "orion-ejb-jar.xml" is intended to be used instead of EJB-QL.
    If I understand you correctly, then your SQL should be something like this:
    select
    from
       YOUR_TABLE
    where
       ID1 = nvl('id1', ID1)
    and
       ID2 = nvl('id2', ID2)
    and
       ID3 = nvl('id3', ID3)You will find information on "orion-ejb-jar.xml" at the following Web sites (not in any particular order):
    http://technet.oracle.com/tech/java/oc4j/content.html
    http://www.orionserver.com
    http://www.orionsupport.com
    http://www.atlassian.com

    Hope this helps you.
    Good Luck,

    P.S. By the way, perhaps you will agree to award me the "Duke Dollars" you are offering for this question that you also asked in the Java Developer Connection (JDC) forums?

    you can find DuplicateKeyException is this place
    http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/api/
    javax.ejb.DuplicateKeyException.
    DuplicateKeyException - exception javax.ejb.DuplicateKeyException.
    The DuplicateKeyException exception is thrown if an entity EJB object cannot be created because an object with the same key already exists.
    But I cannot find how to use DuplicateKeyException in SAP applications
    Very Sorry.

  • CMP 2.0 Do Finders Load entire bean or just a collection of primary keys?

    I've got an EJB module based on CMP 2.0 and we are experiencing some performance problems. I believe that our problem is in the custom finder. Our finder returns a collection of CMP entities. Does this collection only contain primary keys? If so can I force it to load the entire bean(all of the fields)? If not am I correct in the assumption that for each field I call a get on in the entity that the container actiually submits a sql statement to the database?
    Is there something in one of the deployment descriptors I can configure to load the entire bean? In BEA they have a "finders-load-bean" attribute that loads the entire bean. Anything similar in OC4J or Orion? Any other workarounds?
    Thanks.

    I can see your point. But in this case I'm using a custom finder and I do want to get ~90% of the fields from the table. What I've done as a slight hack to get around the majority of the pain is to create a custom method within the Entity Bean itself that retrieves all fields from the bean and returns them as a custom object but I see this as a hack rather than a full solution. I'm sure this violates the EJB design patterns somehow but I'm prepared to bend the spec in order to get response rate down from ~15 secs/additonal field retrieved compared to ~30 secs for all fields retrieved. Do you have a better solution to my performance dilemma?

    We had a requirement to retrieve "aging of receiveables" by customer. Basically, it goes thru each record and depending on the due date places the amounts in the following buckets (example). 0-30 day Overdue, 31-60 days Overdue, 61-90 days overdue, 30+ days overdue, 60+ days overdue) etc all the way to 6+ years overdue.
    There are also cooresponding buckets for coming due analysis. For example, what is: 0-30 days coming due, 31-60 days coming due, 30+ days coming due, etc...
    To do this, first I needed to be able be able to produce an open items statement at any given time in the past. Now, this seems impossible because of how the items go from open to cleared all the time. And an item that was open one month ago, may not be open anymore.
    What I did was first remove any selections on item status. Then compare the posting date with teh key date in the past, if the posting date is less than or equal to the key date, keep the record.
    Then compare the clearing date with the key date. First, keep all that are #. (This keeps all records still open from that posting date/key date)
    Then, add another check for all items that were cleared after the key date (GT Key Date). This gives you the open items on that date.
    Hope that makes sense. Let me know if you want clarification.

  • Error in creation of custom PD infotype

    Hi,
    I have a task of creating a custom PD infotype(p9xxx). I created HRI9xxx structure with all the custom fields and when I try to create the infotype using tcode PPCI(selected 'field infotype' option and create button in the 'infotype' block was pressed), it gives an error message that p9xxx-begda is not in ABAP dictionary and then it gives me list of screens, module pools and tables created. This custom infotype entry does not exist in T777I. I have tried regenerating it and same problem persists. If anyone knows the solution, please do let me know.
    Thanks in advance

  • Implementing BADI MD_ADD_COL_EZPS for MD04 custom column

    Hi there,
    I'm using BADI MD_ADD_COL_EZPS to display 3 new buttons and three new columns in MD04.
    For each line item that is displayed, the custom column is filled, after the button is hit -This works fine.
    My Question is:
    Is there any way to limit the value that is filled into the new column so that it only appears on the FIRST line item/row?
    (At the moment it is repeated all the way down the page - the new value is a material characteristic, so doesn't change, will always be the same for each line)
    I've looked at all the available structures/tables in the FILL_ADD_COLUMNS method of the BADI, and none seem suitable
    to determine the "first" row. (ie. something like the way SY-TABIX or SY-INDEX might be used)
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    David.

    Hi Shubhendu,
    in the method 'ACTIVATE_ADD_COLUMNS', you can set the flag EZ1_MODE to '1' to make the first column visible always. (it's been a while, but I think setting it to '2' makes it visible when the button is pressed.)
    Same applies to EZ2_MODE for second column, EZ3_MODE for third.
    look at the flags/parameters in this method, and also in FILL_ADD_COLUMNS, to fill the data.
    here you need to fill structure EMDEZX_USEX1 (for column 1) etc.
    The code is hit for each record displayed in MD04
    Hopefully this helps you.

    David

  • Custom error message in SAP application log

    Is there a way to add a custom error message to the SAP application log without passing the message variables MSGV1, MSGV2, MSGV3, MSGV4 and the Message class and number.
    We want to pass a custom message from the BAPIRET2-MESSAGE without giving it a Message class and number.  The reason for this is that  we are using class based exceptions instead of the traditional message class with errors.  When we catch the class based exception, we take the error text of the exception and put in in the BAPIRET2-message and set the BAPIRET2-TYPE as 'E'.  Now we want to add this to the SAP application log.
    The call to 'BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD' takes a structure BAL_S_MSG which is just like BAPIRET2.  However this function builds the entry to the application log use the message variables MSGV1, MSGV2, MSGV3, MSGV4.  There is no provision to pass in the BAPIRET2 message.
    Add message to application log
      CALL FUNCTION 'BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD'
        EXPORTING
         i_log_handle              = app_log_handle
         i_s_msg                   = log_message
    Thanks,

    Hi Jay,
    Did you see <b>BAL_LOG_EXCEPTION_ADD</b>?
    This FM is represented by the structure <b>BAL_S_EXC</b>. This can have various versions as described below:
    <b>Data of BAL_S_EXC Structure  /     Use</b>
    <b>EXCEPTION</b>  /                              Exception class from which an exception text
                                                       is added to the log. This field must be filled.
    <b>MSGTY</b>  /                                     Message type (MSGTY) of a T100 message.
                                                       This field must also be filled for exceptions.
    <b>PROBCLASS,
    DETLEVEL,
    ALSORT, TIME_STMP</b>  /                Message or exception attributes, such as
                                                        problem class (PROBCLASS, for
                                                        example, "very important"), level of detail
                                                        (DETLEVEL, from 1 to 9), sort criterion
                                                        (ALSORT, unrestricted) and timestamp
                                                        (TIME_STMP). These fields can be displayed
                                                        in the log (except TIME_STMP).
    <b>MSG_COUNT</b>   /                            This attribute is not used for exceptions.

  • If statement in Custom Calculation Script

    I have 16 fields and if even one of them ="1" I have to list it in another field.  I do not want to count or sum.  If one of those fields has a 1 in it I just want the other field to display Y and if none have a 1 I want that field to display N.
    Please help.
    Thank you in advance~mjc

    You need to write a compound logical statement to evaluate all of the values and that statement needs to evaluate to true or false.
    Do you know how to write JavaScript?
    Do you know how to enter JavaScript calculations into a form field?
    For custom calculation of the text field I could write something like:
    // define an array of the field names to check
    var aNames = new Array("Text1", "Text2", "Text3", "Text4",
    "Text5", "Text6", "Text7", "Text8",
    "Text9", "Text10", "Text11", "Text12",
    "Text13", "Text14", "Text15", "Text16");
    // define a logical variable that is true if any field has a value of 1 - default is false or no field has a value of 1
    var bMatch = false;
    // value for text field
    var TextValue = 0;
    // logical value of field being equal to 1 test
    var FieldIs1 = false;
    // loop through all the fields and test the fields value
    for(i = 0; i < aNames.length; i++) {
    // logically OR the result of field i value equal to true with bMatch
    // get the value of field
    TextValue = this.getField( aNames[i] ).value;
    // test the value of the field
    FieldIs1 = Number(TextValue) == 1
    // logically OR the 2 values
    bMatch = FieldIs1 | bMatch;
    } // end field processing
    // set the field value
    if(bMatch == true) {
    event.value = "Y";
    } else {
    event.value = "N";
    You will need to change the field names to match your fields. You can add more field name or remove field names as needed and the script will adjust for the number of field names.
