Customising Working Time Web Dynpro

Hello all,
EP6 SP15.
We had ESS SP10. There was a problem in that the column widths on the ESS Working Time timesheet were 1 digit long (visible)! This has been fixed by SP11 however the column widths seem to be a fixed at a wider size irrespective of the size of the actual data contained.
I asked SAP about this and they said:
'You can set the InputField.length (character based) OR the InpuField
width (CSS-size) to change the column width. InputField.length only
applies when InputField.width is not set. It is necessary to set 'ex' or'em' instead of 'px'.'
Are they implying that the WebDP has to be modified to rectify this?
Does anyone have any other ideas.
Thanks
Mr.T

Hey Tahir
Did you get any solution to this?

  • ESS & MSS - CATS regular/Record Working Time (Web Dynpro)

    Hello,
SAP Library help (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/ef/e18d3f7057eb0ce10000000a114084/frameset.htm) says the following:
Compared with CATS classic, the following constraints exist for this Web application:
Since CATS regular is an Employee Self-Service application, time administrators or data entry personnel cannot recording working time data.
Is there any workaround to solve it? I mean, we need to recording working time data centrally through ESS or MSS. That's possible? Any enhacement for that? No matter where to do it (ESS or MSS).
    Thanks!
    Miguel Angel.

    Hi Jigar,
That's almost exactly the requirement we need to implement!
    Basically we need:
    a. The employees with computer will record their own working times via ESS
    b. For the employees without computer, their working times will be recorded via MSS by:
    1. their org unit superior OR
    2. someone like a time administrator defined in a custom list containing "employees for the time administrator".
I mean, someone called "time administrator" will record working time for a determined numbers of employees, but this "time administrator" is not the org unit superior. It's possible?? This is the mostly case.
    Other requirements:
    - Default time sheets and target hours for employees (for each employee the corresponding time sheet and target hours)
    Thanks!!
    Miguel Angel.

    hi all,
what is it required to work on Web DynPro for ABAP. i have got ECC 5.0 installed in my system but i dont find "WebDynpro Comp/Intf" under the "Repository Browser" in SE80(ABAP WorkBech).
    How should i proceed further??

    Hi,
for Web Dynpro ABAP you need NW2004s and AS ABAP, see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/43/e86de5008b4d9ae10000000a155369/frameset.htm

  • Environment for working with web dynpro

    Hi All,
I am new to web Dynpro and would like to work on this. Please let me know what software i need to install to work on web dynpro. PLease provide all the necessary information.
    Thanks,
    Ramana Kishore.

Hi.  THere are two flavors of webdynpo, you have the java side, and the ABAP side?  Which do you want to work with?
For the java side, you will need to download and install a Netweaver Sneak Preview Java system as well as the Netweaver Developer Studio.  The studio is the IDE which you will use to create your webdynpro applications, you then deploy to this java system to run the app.
For the ABAP side, you will need to download and install the Netweaver Sneak Preview ABAP system.  Of course the IDE here is SE80 in the ABAP system.  Webdynpro is built directly into SE80.
You can download all of this good stuff here on SDN at the following link.
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/downloaditem?rid=/library/uuid/cfc19866-0401-0010-35b2-dc8158247fb6
The ABAP system is on the far right.
You can also check out the help on both.

  • Collaborative work on Web Dynpro ABAP

    Hi guys,
I have to develop a Web Dynpro application with some of my colleagues. As we will be working together, at the same time, I was wonderring the best way to achieve this.
I don't want to have a problem with locks each time someone wants to modify a controller when the other is busy in the view.
Should we cut the application is several components?
Thanks a lot for your input,
    Regards
    Thomas

Generally multiple people can be editing on the same component - if for instance two people are working on two different views.  However you have to be careful about changes to the shared contexts (like from the component controller).  Also before anyone starts working on the individual views, you should have the component controller completed. You can further separate your work if you properly split your business logic out into a clean model layer as a separate class.
That said, for really large scale projects you should consider multiple components and even Floorplan Manager (if you are on NetWeaver 7.01 or higher).  This gives you the best level of reuse, encapsulation, and parallel work.  You do have to be careful with performance on mutliple component projects.  For instance cross component context binding is very memory intensive becuase the context is duplicated in each component instance instead of the By Reference approach used by inner component mapping.  These issues can be worked around using techniques like a single class instance as your model and cross component data storage.
If you look at the majority of the SAP WDA applications, they do use multiple components and Floorplan Manager.

  • Right click is not working in Web dynpro explorer

    Hi All,
I have SAP net weaver developer studio 2.0.9.
when i right click on web dynpro components, to create a component, the context  menu is not coming, right click is not working.
though right click works fine in diagram view and outline view.
Please suggest what might have happened? and how to get back the settings.
    Cheers,
    Srini.

    Hello Srinivas,
Try closing and opening NWDS. If you still see the same problem, simple solution for this is, Just Change Workspace to new folder.
Changing workspace - Window -> Workbench -> workspace -> give new path.
Close nwds and open it again. It should solve the problem.

  • Why doesn't Search across files work in web dynpro perspective?

    Hello,
I rely on the Files Tab of the Search popup a lot to search for occurence of text in files.
So far, I've been doing all J2EE development and the Search functionality works great in the J2EE perspective. What I do is select the Development Component (DC) in Package explorer view and then bring up the search box. On there I select File tab and the "selected resource" radio button. I leave the File Name patterns as "*" so it'll search all files.
However, when I try that in the Web Dynpro perspective it doesn't find any hits. I know I can do a search across the whole workspace but that'll return too many hits in other DCs.
Anyone have an idea how to do this in Web Dynpro perspective?

I remember that I once opened an OSS message on this issue. What version has your IDE?

  • Authorizations for Record Working Time

    hi experts,
I assigned the copied role Z_SAP_EMPLOYEE_ERP to a ESS user on R/3 side. The user is trying to access Record Working Time web dynpro application on Portal. He gets an error "there is no authorization to this activity". Does the standard role SAP_EMPLOYEE_ROLE not have the required authorizations?
If not, what authroization is needed for accessing CATS Web Dynpro on portal?
    I appreciate your help.
    Regards

    Hi
    Also check these:
    1. In IT105 create a record assigning the user id to the personnel number in subtype 0001.
    2. Ensure that the profile you have provided in CVR parameter and the profile you have customized are one and the same. Else, SAP will default 'ESS' profile to the employee on Portal.
    3. If the above doesn't work out, create a new user in HRUSER - tcode, assign proper R/3 & ESS roles, parameter and then test.
If this helps, pl do reward.

  • Real time scenarios where Web Dynpro is used

    Hi Experts,
I am a beginner with Web Dynpro (ABAP ), i have developed a couple of simple web dynpros for practice purpose. I would like to know the below things to get a better idea on the technology
    1. Can anyone who have worked on Web Dynpro share the real time applications which you worked on.(I am not expecting any technical details, i want to understand the scenarios in real world where this technology is used).
    2. If some one can link web dynpro's with CRM/SRM that would help me more.(Once again i need the business scenario)
    Thanks in advance.
    regard's
    Sudheer V

    Hi Sharath,
Thanks for your response, it was really a useful link. But once again they all talk about technical details but what i was looking for was business scenarios where web dynpro can be used effectively.
When i was searching for this i found one such scenario where web dynpro gets the quotation details from the CRM system and creates a sales order with reference to the quotation in the SAP R/3.
I was actually looking for scenarios like the above with some technical details for implementing the same.
Please let me know if you know scenarios something like the above one.Thanks.

    Hi,
If you go for TC HRFORMS, there you can find some HRFORMS global. we need to activate that form and configure the feature called "HRFOR". This works once implemented time evalution.

  • Can we approve working time in UWL without  MSS web appl?

    Hello Friends,
I have a doubt thats bugging me for the past one week, I have a requirement where an employee enters working time through portal and the manager should approve through the portal.
I have configured ESS and also the backend, thus when an employee enters his working time and releases ,  a workitem is created in the managers inbox at the backend.
I am using the approval reports RCATSB01 for approving working time in the backend.
I am planning to do the UWL config so that managers can access workitems through portal, <b>Can i use this approval report to approve working time in UWL or is it mandatory to use "Approve working Time" web application from MSS</b>.

  • Using EJBs in Web Dynpro Applications

I have recently started to develop Web applications using the Web Dynpro framework. Coming from a pure J2EE world, I must admit that Web Dynpro has a few innovative features that I find interesting for user interface development. The use of component & view contexts, for example, is not unlike the ActionForms that one may find in a Struts application, but pushed a bit further. No complaints here.
What I do have some problems with is the whole CommandBean paradigm that is put forth by SAP (refer to the document <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/webdynpro/using%20ejbs%20in%20web%20dynpro%20applications.pdf">Using EJBs in Web Dynpro Applications</a>).
I do understand the usefulness of defining a model that will be used to generate and eventually bind to Context data structures. That's fine. What I do object to is the use of a so-called CommandBean to play that role. Again, coming from a J2EE world, I am familiar with the BusinessDelegate pattern - which would typically be used by a client application to invoke business logic on the server side. I would propose that a better, cleaner way of integrating EJBs with the Web Dynpro framework would be to use a BusinessDelegate for invoking business logic, and importing a separate and distinct ModelBean (instead of a CommandBean) to be used for defining and binding to Context data.
I have built one Web Dynpro application thus far. Instead of using a CommandBean, I created a ModelBean that extends my business object DTO (Data Transfer Object) (which is quite appropriate for that role, given that it implements all the get & set methods that are required for the business data that I need to model). My Web Dynpro application also makes use of an independant BusinessDelegate that is packaged with my EJB DC - this is a standard best practice on J2EE projects. I have been asked by the people working with me to modify this architecture to bring it more in line with the SAP way of doing things. I am open-minded and willing to learn and accept new ways of thinking and doing things. However, I fail to understand the usefulness of merging structure and behaviour by resorting to CommandBeans:
    - <b>It violates the MVC paradigm</b> by having one object (the CommandBean) serve as both model AND controller as far as the Web Dynpro application is concerned. The CommandBean is obviously a model - since it is literally imported as such into the Web Dynpro application. It is ALSO a controller from the Web Dynpro's application perspective, since all calls to the back-end go thru the CommandBean via one or more of its execute_xxx methods. In contrast, the use of a business delegate by the Web Dynpro application clearly separates the model (the CommandBean... or rather, a more suitably named ModelBean) from the controller (BusinessDelegate).
    - <b>Doesn't carry its own weight</b>. In other words, I haven't yet been provided with any valid justification for going thru the extra effort of coding the CommandBean's execute methods. It's been proposed to me that it somehow serves as an abstraction layer between the Web Dynpro application and the business logic. I would argue that it is the BusinessDelegate's role to abstract away the back-end logic from clients. If one does have a BusinessDelegate available, I would argue there's no need to code execute methods in a separate CommandBean. To prove my point, I would simply point out that all of the CommandBean examples that I have seen so far, either in How-To documents, or in production code, all follow the same pattern....
    CommandBean.execute_doSomething() calls BusinessDelegate.doSomething()
Not a heck of an "abstraction" layer... I would in fact argue that it is worse than useless. If some major change occurs in the business logic that requires changing the doSomething() operation, we expect of course to modify the BusinessDelegate. The Web Dynpro client will also presumably need to be modified - that's to be expected, and unavoidable. But then, we'll also need to go about and change the CommandBean's execute_doSomething() method - again, extra work for no apparent benefit. Adding and removing business methods has the same implication. All this for an layer that simply adds the prefix execute_ in front of all business method calls... Is this "abstraction layer" worth the cost of creating and maintaining it ??
    - <b>Unnecessarily complicates error handling</b>. I have been told that for technical reasons, it is recommended that all exceptions thrown by the CommandBean be of type WDException or WDRuntimException. But what if the client application needs to react differently to different failure scenarios ? When I create a business object, I might wish to provide the user with an error messages if connection is lost to the backend, and with a different error message if an object already exists in the database with the same attributes. In order to do that, I will have to catch the WDException, extract the cause, and continue processing from there... possible, yes, but clearly less standard and more labor intensive than the classical try/catch mechanism.
To say nothing about the fact that SAP's own API documentation clearly states that applications using Web Dynpro can reference and catch WDExceptions, but THEY MUST NOT THROW OR EXTEND IT !
    - <b>Produces unnecessary DCs</b>. Page 6 of the aforementioned document presents an architectural view of a Web Dynpro project that uses a CommandBean. Why an extra DC for the CommandBean ?? I created my ModelBean class right inside the Web Dynpro project (in the Package view). That, to me, is where this class should reside, because it is created for no other reason that to be used by this particular Web Dynpro application. What is the benefit of placing it in its own independant DC ?
    - <b>Not a typical application of the Command pattern</b>. The well-documented command pattern (Design Patterns - Gang of Four) has been devised mainly to enable encapsulation of request as objects, thereby making it possible to:
    - specify, queue and execute requests at different times
    - decouple execution of a command from its invoker
    - support undo operations
    - support logging changes so that they can be reapplied in case of system crash making it possible to assemble commands into composite commands (macros), thereby structuring a system around high-level operations built on primitive operations.
None of this applies to the way the SAP CommandBeans are being used. Not that much of an issue to people new to J2EE and/or OO development... but quite confusing for those already familiar with the classic Command pattern.
At this point, I fail to understand the advantage of merging structure (model) and behaviour (execute methods) through the use of a unique CommandBean object. Am I missing something ?

    Hi Romeo,
You would be disappointed, this reply ain't anywhere nearby to what you are talking about...
I wanted to mail you, but you have not mentioned your email in your profile.
I am really impressed by your flair for writing. It would be far better had you written a blog on this topic. Believe me, it would really be better. There is a much wider audience waiting out there to read your views rather than on the forums. This is what I believe. To top it, you would be rewarded for writing something like this from SDN. On the blogs too, people can comment and all, difference being there you would be rewarded by SDN, here people who reply to you would be rewarded by you. Doesn't make  much a difference.
Anyways the ball is still in your court
As far as I am concerned, it has still not been much time since I have started working on Web Dynpro. So can't really comment on the issue...

  • Problems using Visual Composer with Web Dynpro runtime

I am currently trying to build a Visual Composer iView and we need to use the Web Dynpro runtime rather than Flash because it needs to work with a screen reader for users with sight problems.  Which is a pity because Flash works fine. But when I use Web Dynpro runtime I'm getting the following problems:
    a) When I define fields and pushbuttons in forms where Align Contents is set to Absolute, they do not appear at runtime in the positions in which I've placed them - all form elements are aligned vertically.  The only other options are to align all fields vertically or align all fields horizontally.  This lack of flexibility makes it rather difficult to create a good screen design; the only option seems to be to create a separate form for each set of differently aligned fields, which leads on to the next problem.  .
    b) When I define more than one form on a page, again at runtime the forms do not always appear in the positions in which I've placed them; the compiler seems to calculate how much space it needs to display the screen elements and then re-sizes and  re-positions the forms accordingly, ignoring what I've told it to do.
    c) Toolbar pushbuttons do not appear on forms (they do appear on tables).  Irritating, but at least I can still create pushbuttons on the form itself.
There are other issues, but the main problems is that it appears that when I use VC with Web Dynpro I cannot trust the editor layout at all and the only way I can build something that looks decent is to fiddle about with  field / form sizes and positions, checking every change on the output, until hopefully I get it looking ok.  Having to do this will dramatically increase the time taken to develop VC applications.  Has anyone else experienced these problems with VC and Web Dynpro?  Has anyone managed to overcome them?

Thanks, but neither of these describes the problems I've been having.  And they are misleading since they say that you can use VC with Web Dynpro only with Web Services ie not directly with BAPIs / RFCs, but using it with BAPIs / RFCs is one of the few things that works well in our system.
The most recent problem I've found is that if you make a form or table read-only it will stay read-only in Flash but the fields are editable in Web Dynpro.  The individual field disable option does work for Web Dynpro, but it turns the fields from black to a vey pale and almost invisible grey (this doesn't happen in Flash).  And you can't seem to change this.
It does seem to be a bit pathetic that input fields can't be made read only.  I've tried expression boxes, which are read-only anyway, but they appear in as pale a grey as the disabled input fields.  And although plain text fields can be added to tables, they are pretty useless since they can only hold a single value and so all the lines will contain the same value.
I guess I should resign myself to the fact that I am never going to be able to produce a decent screen using VC and Web Dynprp.
