Customizing tree component

i would like to know if it's possible to use a tree component, where each node is more than the simple default static text component.
ideally, i'd like a tree to dynamically create a node for each Order in a database. each Order Node would have sub-nodes for each item of that order. this can be done by following the tree component tutorials.
but what i need is to be able to add other components to the nodes, other than the default static text. for example, adding a table to a node, or a text area. whenever i try to do this, the IDE adds the components to the nodes but aligns them with the left-most border of the entire tree component, instead of aligning them with the left border of the node to which they belong.
what can i do?

my only problem occurs when the text being set for a node is too long. the tree component displays the text on a single line OUTSIDE of the tree node ie. the start of the text is aligned on the left with the tree title instead of being under the node it is supposed to be in.

You will either have to create your own custom tree component using the Sun JSF RI (could be a lot of work, especially if you've never created a custom component before), or use the MyFaces one.

Hye guys,
I need a custom tree component for some xml elements that represent some files and their attributes. I have written one such component but what I need now to add to this component is Checkboxes.
The user is supposed to select files from this Tree component via these chk boxes.
Can someone point me in the direction of such an existing Tree component.
Or if I have to write one how do I go about it.
Pls donot point me to the Java tutorial. I read it but I still have a very very vague idea, if any idea at all, of doing this.

I want to set custom background to each node of the tree

Further, if you do not invoker super's implementation you must honor the opaque property, that is if this component is opaque, you must completely fill in the background in a non-opaque color. If you do not honor the opaque property you will likely see visual artifacts.
I read this as either call super.paintComponent() or you must draw a filled rectangle of the background color yourself, but that whether it changes the background color or not, also depends on the setOpaque(true).
Reading that it seems as though it is a combination of our suggestions. -
Custom icon per entry in the AS2 Tree Component (using CS3)
I have a tree component that loads its data from an XML file and I wonder if I can customize every entry to have its own icon by adding an icon attribute to every entry in the XML and giving the tree an action to read that icon (which would exist in the library of the Flash file). My goal is to reproduce a tree within an application that my company is developing (it's for a training tool related to that application).
My XML says something like <node label = 'Label' heading = 'LABEL' desc = 'Description' icon = 'icon1' />
My label is what the tree displays, the heading is what the information dialog in the training tool displays as a title bar, the desc is what the training tool displays within the body of the text for the function description and the icon is what I want to be a reference to the graphic in the library to place as an icon in front of the item rather than use setStyle with the properties for disclosure, leaf, and folder icons.
Is that possible? I haven't found a solution for it yet.I've never used the Tree component, so I'm just guessing here....
There is a slight delay before the xml file loads and your tree has its data provider.
Perhaps during that time there is no node at mTree.getTreeNodeAt(0) to open? Try adding this just before the last line of your code:
trace("the node is: "+mTree.getTreeNodeAt(0));
What do you get?
You might need to move that code inside the xml's load event handler.
Another thing is that the Flash components tend to work on an invalidate-then-wait-one-frame-to-redraw kind of model. So it is possible you will need to wait one frame after the xml has loaded and then tell it to open that node.
The doLater method might help with that.

Customizing the Tree Component inn ADF Faces..
HI,
I am using the ADF Faces Tree Component and was wondering wheteher we
can use a specific theme instead of the default one..
The scenario's i am looking at are
1) Changing the Style of the Selected Node
2) Programatically can i assign a different styling for a Specific
Node (Previously Selected) in the Tree ??
3) And any info reg Enabling the Drag and Drop functionality ?? As of
now i don't think it is supported. Are there any plans of it being
supported in the furture releases??

2) You can reference a managed bean for providing the inline style sheet on a component. This however only works when the tree is re-drawn and not dynamically
3) Drag and drop doesn't work in 10.1.3.x. In 11 this may work - havent tested yet - using a client listener component

different levels of the tree menu?I am guessing that you are using AS2 components, as there is
not a default Tree component for AS3...
I don't know about font sizes, but you can set depth colors
for the AS2 Tree.
The following will set the background colors to black, medium
grey, lighter grey for the Tree that is named "myTree":

Label display issue in Tree component when it is having vertical scrollbar
I am using tree component as dropdown factory for combo box. When i open dropdown, it doesn't have vertical scrollbar and all the root nodes are getting displayed correctly(in closed mode). Now if i try to open any node, i am getting vertical scrollbar as the child nodes are more. Now the problem is if scroll down, some of the nodes(labels) are not getting displayed but i am able to see the icon. If i keep on scrolling bottom to top and top to bottom, some of the nodes are showing labels and some are not(It is inconsistant).
I have not used any custom item renderer for tree control. I used my custom dataDescriptor which i have implemented from ITreeDataDescriptor. Also I tried extending DefalutDataDescriptor, but no luck.Does it work if the tree is not in a combobox?

How to resize a custom tree node like you would a JFrame window?

I am trying to resize a custom tree node like you would a JFrame window.
As with a JFrame, when your mouse crosses the Border, the cursor should change and you are able to drag the edge to resize the node.
However, I am faced with a problem. Border cannot detect this and I dont want to use a mouse motion listener (with a large number of nodes, I fear it will be inefficient, calculating every node's position constantly).

I am wondering if it might be easier to have a toggle button in the node that you click when you want to resize the node. Then a mouse-down and dragging the mouse will resize the node. Mouse-up will reset the toggle button, and so will mouse down in an invalid area.

I'm using the tree component for a little Windows Parody I'm making. In my .fla, There's a tree component that loads an external XML file. I can't figure out how to add custom icons to my component, though.
I know it's possible to set the icons for just the default folder and file icons, but since it's a Windows Parody, there'll be different icons for different file types, folder types, etc.
In other words, I'd like to have a different icon for every item in my Tree component.
How can I do this?

Questions about AS2 Tree Component (Flash CS3)
I have Flash application with a Tree component on the Stage. I'm using an XML file to create the structure of the Tree component.
Each entry on my XML has the attributes id, label, heading, desc, and icon.
My problem is that I can't seem to be able to set the Tree to default with the first node open.

I'm new to flex and having a hard time figuring out the best way to approach the following problem (in Flex context, _not_ AIR):

What would be the best way to approach this project ?
- Is it a customization of the standard Tree component + custom Tree Item Renderer ?
- The nodes should be expandable/collapsible + selectable (additional information to be displayed on selection of node without expand/collapse effect)
- For the nodes would it make sense to derive them from the ToggleButton ? (and what would be the most sensefull way of introducing the second line on the button ? Or just building a proper graphical component for it (derived from Group)?
- What is the most effective way to deal with the balancing of the tree in such a way that subtrees move out of the way/in place on expand resp. collapse of nodes ? (through (H/V)groups ?)
- What would be the most efficient way to deal with the connectors between nodes ?
- dataprovider would be an XML structure - what is the best place to put the building algo ? (Every node know how to create itself and the first level children ? Or a tree traverse on the XML structure, building all components in one go ?)
Any advice/thoughts/references are welcome !

I need to create a custom tree.
Is it posible in flex tree, to have a node, that is a panel component, with a few other components, like textinput or buttons?
Clicking on buttons causes adding or removing new nodes in appropriate place in the tree.
What in fact I need to create, is advanced filter builder (originaly created in GWT), shown here: http://www.smartclient.com/smartgwt/showcase/#featured_filter_builder_grid
The structure of that filter looks like 'very' custom tree
Do you have any idea how to do that, or where can I find any hints or solutions?Here is my tree renderer:

When I run compressor all windows of both compressor and final cut stay open. This is not really my idea of background batch processing. Is there a way to remove all those useless windows off the screen so that I can continue on my other works?
