CVS and JDeveloper 9.0.3

Hi,
I tried to activate source control CVS inside JDeveloper. In the tools menu I activated CVS, but I got always the message "The CVS client is not installed or not located in your system environment path". I'm working with a Windows XP machine. WinCVS 1.3.8 is also installed. Do I need a special version of CVS to work with JDeveloper ?
Where can I set the connect parameter for CVS ? Sorry for stupide questions.
Toralf

Hi,
I work with JDev10.1.2 and CVS1.3.21.2 Beta 21
And I have the same problems with integration of CVS.
How have you solved this problem?

  • Working With CVS and JDeveloper 10.1.2 URGENT

    Hi Guys,
Can somebody help me out? To work in Team Development we have chosen CVS. I have two versions CVSNT, 2.5.02 and 1.11.13. I have followed every step from the help file, and installed them (first 2.5.02 and then 1.11.13, after un-installing 2.5.02). Now whenever I click CVS Server node from the Connection tab, it always display a message Alert:
The CVS executable is not installed or not located in your system environment path.
although I have added the path in the path variable.
I was going through the article:
    Oracle JDeveloper 10g
    Installation Guide
    Version 10.1.2
    October 2004
where it recomended the CVS version:
    Concurrent Version Support (CVS)
    * CVS versions 1.10 to 1.11.14
    * CVSNT versions 2.0.26 to 2.0.34
If I download the following version, won't I get any error message? If so, then where can I find the versions?
Any help will be appriciated and thank you in advance.

    hello i am using
    cvs --version
Concurrent Versions System (CVSNT) 2.5.02 (Servalan) Build 2064 (client/server)
    that i download from cvsnt.org
    cvs it's in path variable.
and front-end i use Tortoise CVS that is better because it's integrated in Windows Explorer.
otherwise in JDev select menu Versioning->Select System-> check CVS and then
in tab Connections in CVSServer right click and select new cvs connection.
    configure and work.
try to have only a cvs.exe in your machine.
    i want help you.

  • JDeveloper and CVS and TeamWork

    Hi,
we have a small team with 4 members and are developing in JDeveloper 10.1.2 with CVS plug-in (struts, toplink, jsp).
We are beginners and are frustrated now: every commit/update causes problems.
    Always are problems with
    - project.jpr files (synchronization among developers)
    - sessions.xml (we cannot really add this file to cvs)
    - state of offline tables (and digrams) are sometimes wrong show: restart of JDeveloper is necessary
    - many JDevelopers files are unvisible, but must be added to cvs
    - and more and more
Please - are somebody using JDeveloper & CVS in team with satisfaction? Are our problems beginner-problems or is this way wrong?
    Thanks for your experience.
    Jara

My biggests issues with JDeveloper and CVS are as follows:
    1. Oracle puts out an article that talks about Version controllable XML and the biggest culprits of violators of this rule are the Oracle project files: StrutsPAgeFlow.oxd_struts, ViewController.jpr, and Model.jpr. Not nice when you can no longer open your Struts-config.xml file due to all the <==== lines in the file! In almost all instances, since we've built most of the files and aren't adding/removing much from the project as a whole, we can easily correct these problems then commit again, or just issue a clean update on them, and disregard (especially when it appears to be an ordering issue)
    2. Also, we've seen model.jpr files switch contents (areas look like they are swapped around) in between versions. Why? The files are identical except the position of the nodes.
    3. I really want to know my OUT-OF-SYNC files BEFORE I do an update. Kind of like the Uncommitted files window, I'd like: Hey, how out of sync am I?
    4. The COMPARE utility is very nice, however, once CVS takes over and does the automatic MERGE, you're really left with a mess (at times). Any time we get a "failure to update" message, we issue a compare against the current reposistory version verses version on disk and see what the differences are. Then we search for whether our stuff was merged properly.
    5. The only docs I've seen on Jdeveloper and CVS are "introductory" type documentation. Don't put out a document that talks about issues that are "out-of-scope" when these are the very issues that people need to deal with every day, and are looking for answers. The "oracle jdeveloper 10g" handbook is no better, offering about 4 pages of an "overview of CVS".
    6. People have asked before about CVS, even on Metalink and an answer from Oracle is to look at an OTN post. I'm sorry, but that really doesn't cut it, especially when your support bill is over $500K/year.
    enough rambling...
CVS and Jdeveloper 10.1.2 are working at our shop with 3-4 developers on the project, but it can be paintful during the "conflicts during merge" times.

  • Jheadstart, JDeveloper and CVS and TeamWork

    Hi
We're four-developer team and we've been working with Jheadstart for some months. Now we want to work with team options that provide jdeveloper (CVS or SCM). But, we are a too much suprised with all the problems that other developers had with CVS, we read it in some jdeveloper forums (JDeveloper and CVS and TeamWork and JDeveloper and CVS
I get very worry about the problems that developers had with CVS and that at last they don't find a better solution than migrate to jdeveloper 10.1.3. All the forums recomend migrate to jdeveloper 10.1.3 for better support of team work, but I read (some time ago) that jdeveloper 10.1.3 still doesn't support ADF, then I assume we cannot use it with Jheadstart, Am I right? Is there a way to use Jheadstart with JDeveloper 10.1.3 Preview right now?
What do you recomend for team work with Jheadstart?
    Thanks in advance
    Liceth

    Liceth,
As you problably know, the JHeadstart team consists of consultants and we face the exact same problems and share the exact same frustrations as you do on an every day basis at our customer projects. It is indeed not easy to use JDeveloper in a multi-developer environment. In all fairness much of this is a given when doing file-based development, and I have seen the exact same problems in situations where other IDE's such as Eclipse etc were used. But using advanced frameworks like ADF and BC4J makes matters more complex, because the declarative way of developing these applications using drag&drop and powerful wizards make you as a developer be less 'in touch' with the file or files that are actually created and updated, and also there tend to be more files in such an architecture that are changed simultaneously by many developers at once.
Merging is the only way out of this mess, and merge tools are not perfect, far from it. They get better and better but at some point you'll need to understand the semantics of the files that are to be merged to be able to merge them correctly, and merge tools will in all likelyhood never become that smart.
Until they do, the only thing one can do is to tackle the problem from the other side: if merge tools dont understand the files they merge, we should take into account the weaknesses of these merge tools, and set up our files so that changes CAN be automatically merged, or in most cases at least. Indeed, JDeveloper 10.1.3 is taking good steps in this direction for notoriously tricky files such as JPR files and such. But the problem will never completely go away.
As for using 10.1.3, well, as you said the preview does not contain ADF so JHeadstart will never run on it. We are developing JHeadstart 10.1.3 that will run on the production version of JDeveloper 10.1.3, but it will be a long time before that release will see the light. And although JDeveloper 10.1.3 is a kick-ass IDE (imho), it will not magically solve all multi-user issues. It will just be a bit more bearable.
Is there ever a real solution for it? I don't know. I have worked intensively with the Oracle Designer product before I switched to Java, and that tool, which uses a database rather than files to store its information, was almost perfect when dealing with multi-user development. It could do so because the level at which conflicts occur is VERY finegrained (so not at 'code line' level but sometimes as far as 'individual properties in a property inspector' level), plus the advantages of instantaneous locking in the database when modifying something. And, thinking of it, it could do so because it dealt with 'structured objects' rather than files, thereby having some 'semantic' information about the data. I have this feeling we can only 'get it right' if we will treat, for instance, a Java file not as a collection of lines of code, but of a structured object tree with members, constructors, methods, parameters etc. etc., and store it as such, instead of storing it as a flat OS file.
Just ranting here (this really should be a personal BLOG entry rather than a forum post, but oh well). As you can tell, its a subject that is very close to every developer's heart.
    Kind regards,
    Peter Ebell

  • CVS with SSH Protocol 2 and Jdeveloper 9.0.3 production release

I have configured WinCVS with NetworkSimplicity SSH using Protocol 2 key generation and it works fine.
When I try to configure CVS in JDeveloper, on the test page I get:
    Testing connection...
Timed out waiting for process to exit.
Connection test failed: unable to connect.
The Jdeveloper JVM is the default one. I have tried to follow some of technet guides - such as setting the env. parameter CVS_RSH to ssh,... but without success.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Usman

    Found the problem.
In the CVS connection wizard, for the remote shell setting in the external locator dialog, enter a -2 to the path of ssh. For example C:\Program Files\NetworkSimplicity\ssh\ssh.exe -2

  • CVS, OID and JDeveloper

    Hi,
I am trying to use JDeveloper with CVS. Is there any way to control the user access using OID?
Reading the CVS manual, it seems that I can do that using PAM. However, I have no experience on it. Have anyone done that before? Could you provide the procedure on how to configure the PAM?
    Thanks a lot!
    Zhan

Can you follow the instructions in the reviewer guide for 10g http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/collateral/papers/10g/reviewer/reviewerguide.html
    and see if it works.
As you can see in the CVS demo on that page CVS and compare do work.

  • How to use CVS with JDeveloper

    Hi all!
I'm starting a new project and I would like to know how to use CVS with JDeveloper. This is my first project where I will have two more people working with me and I don't know what the better approach is. Should I use CVS that come with JDeveloper (option Internal to Oracle JDeveloper 10g) or should I configure an external repository? In both cases, I don't know what I have to do to have CVS working properly with JDeveloper. Actually I tried to create a new CVS connection in CVS navigator (using the access method Password Server), but when I test I receive the message: Could not open connection to CVS server: general socket failure, sure I must doing something wrong.
    I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for you help John!
I installed cvsnt and when I try to create a new CVS connection inside JDeveloper I receive the message: authorization failed: server adminf29786.dixamico.com.br rejected access to /Diversos/DownLoad/CVS/usr/local/cvsroot for user JMartins
I using pserver method and JMartins is my user in windows
There is something that I'm curious about, when I was installing CVSNT I didn't configure any user and password, is there any default user/password?
    Thanks!

  • Problems with CVS and improvements required

Developing with JDeveloper 9.0.3 preview we have found some bugs and some improvements that would be very useful.
    Problems
    1)     Overlay icons on versioned files dont show the real state of the file as described in the Using Concurrent Versions System (CVS) With JDeveloper section of the Using Support for Team Based Development help manual (this issue was solved with a patch for the 9.0.2 release but it cant be applied for the 9.0.3 preview).
    2)     When CVS finds revision conflicts on the project file (.jpr) or on the descriptors of BC4J objects and packages, it overwrites (properly) the source file with the <<<<<< and >>>>>> comments to denote the conflict, and the warning for the conflict is signaled in the CVS log; but it would be nice (because it is annoying to check everytime the CVS log especially for a critical message like a conflict) having a message box reporting these critical messages.
    3)     During the import module function to import the project files into the CVS server, the image files (such as .GIF and .JPG) ought to be automatically added as binary files, or better still, it would be useful a configuration fuction to enumerate the extensions to be added as binary files.
    4)     After some types of CVS commands the CVS editors and CVS watchers windows becomes suddenly closed.
    Required Improvements
    1)     It would be useful a function showing all the files to be added to source control in a list and in a more general case, the versioning status of all the project files, without having to expand all the nodes of the project tree.
    2)     Its uncomfortable the current behaviour for the check out/edit on the project file (jpr) that automatically selects all files included within it. It would be useful to explicitly select to operate only on the project file or to include also the files within it; or at least to place the project file at the top of the list.
    3)     The Edit Files command for the CVS source control ought to support the cvs edit option -c (to check that working files are unedited) and an option to execute an update command before the edit one, to have the most recent revision of that file.
    4)     The opportunity to treat every type of BC4J object as a single CVS entity, taking all the files required by the single BC4J object grouped together and then checked-in, checked-out, etc. in a simple one-click operation.

    1) Overlay icons [cut] Has the problem returned in 9.0.3 and if so can you give me details of your cvs client version i.e CVSNT 1.0.11.1.3 etc.. It would be really helpful in tracking this down. The CVS version in use is (from the cvs --version command output): Concurrent Versions System (CVSNT) 1.11.1.3  (Build 57a) (client/server). The JDeveloper version is 9.0.3.988 preview. This is the client version we test against and recommend. We have seen no problems here and can't reproduce this. Could you help us track this down by supplying the answers to the following questions?
1, What OS and CVS version is the server using?
2, For a file that is showing the incorrect overlay could you check the timestamp in the CVS\entries file and post that and the timestamp on the actual file system file?
3, What timezone are you currently working in and is daylight savings time in operation?
    and finally
4, Is the CVS server in the same timezone?
Hopefully this will give us a good start on where the problem is.
    [cut]
We have already configured cvswrappers to properly handle binary files, but the cvs import function seems to ignore these settings, while cvs add uses it. If you try to import a project with some gif files using jdev, having configured cvs as described, these files will be corrupted. After this, if you add another gif file using cvs add function (not add binary) the settings will be used and the file are correctly stored.
It seems that to make the import command work properly, file types have to be explicitly specified for each binary file (-kb option) on the cvs command line. To verify this we have tried the same operations using wincvs client. Inspecting the log window, we see that the client explicitly force the file types (they use an internal filtering to recognize binary files instead of file extension):
cvs import -I ! -I CVS -W "*.gif -k 'b'" -m "no message" testmodule avendor areleaseRight, I'll add this information to the bug and make sure it gets evaluated.
    4) After some types of CVS commands the CVS editors and CVS watchers windows becomes suddenly closed. Could yet tell me what these operations are so I can log a bug? We dont know if its effectively a bug, but the window becomes closed when automating layout switching occurs (if its enabled in preferences), for example: Im in the ide without any open editors (current layout Editing), I get the editors list, then I open an uiXML file (the layout switch to Web Editing) and the list disappears. Even if the layout switch back to Editing (automatically or manually) the list is not re-shown (its not saved in the layout). This is an issue with JDevs layout in that the SCM windows are not default in any layout and so they are closed when the switch occurs. This is being looked at for a future release.
    3) The Edit Files command for the CVS source control ought to support the cvs edit option -c (to check that working files are unedited) and an option to execute an update command before the edit one, to have the most recent revision of that file. I'll add enhancement requests for these I especially like the update before edit suggestion. For team based development the reserved edit functionality (the -c option) would be very useful, especially for working with business components.I'll add your use case to the enhancement, as this is a very good reason to have "-c". Hopefully if we can implement 4) and integrate source control and BC4J better in a future release.
    4) The opportunity to treat every type of BC4J object as a single CVS entity, taking all the files required by the single BC4J object grouped together and then checked-in, checked-out, etc. in a simple one-click operation. We would also like to have support for this in source control and it is a feature that is currently under investigation. It would be -very- useful if, while trying to edit a generic component under source control, jdev suggested (in the edit dialog window, for example) which other files are likely to be modified, giving the chance to edit them also (if not already). For example, trying to edit a ViewObject component, it will be probably needed also to edit the .jpx, the project, the business package descriptor, in addition to the component implementation and descriptor.Agreed.
We also have some doubts on the meaning of the dialog that often appears after a checkout or a folder update, asking New checked out files were detected; how would you like them to be dealt with?. Can you explain whats the behavior of each choice? The three choices breakdown as follows
    1. Open checked out files in the active project
This adds all files to the project that is active in the IDE, if all files were already in the project no change will appear to occur. If new files have been downloaded they will now appear in the project
    2. Create a New project for the checked out files
Generate a completely new fresh project from the checked out files, similar to the default behaviour of checkout module in JDev
    3. Do not open a new checked out files.
Perform no action with the files, lets the user add them if they so wish.
    Thanks for the replies,

  • Problems using CVS with Jdeveloper - Project

I have Jdeveloper on Windows 2000 and CVS repository on unix.
    I am using wincvs.
In the documentation it mentions that I have to create a new project on JDeveloper and then import that project in CVS.
But if I already have files in CVS then how can I get that in JDeveloper ?
When I do a CVS checkout I get the files on my local PC. However I get a message which says that project could not be checked out ..
Now when I do a cvs update JDeveloper tries to update all the files ..
    Any suggestions ?

Unfortunately there is no way to do this in 9.0.4. This has been fixed in the 10.1.3 preview release, in 9.0.4 you will need to create your session broker in code to work around the problem.
If you require sessions.xml support for this in 9.0.4, please contact Oracle support.

  • Soa 11g and jdeveloper 11g user defined extension function

I have developed a set of extension functions,
in design time for the previous version, I can put the deployment file (jar file) that contains the extension functions in the %JDEV_HOME%\jdev\lib\ext directory and jdeveloper recognizes the set of extension functions if previously i have defined an xml descriptor with every one of the functions i need to include in the panel.
Now, with the jdeveloper 11g i have tried the same, and jdev recognizes the functions, but when I am going to test one transformation that includes the extension function, the parser is not founding the jar file; the error (in spanish) is:

La clase que falta no esta disponible desde ningun origen de codigo o cargador del sistema.
    my dude is:
+ at design time, where can I put the jars with extension functions to make one transformation function used in a mediator component can works fine?
+ at runtime, where can I put those libraries? (in the previous version, we can put this libraries in the %APP_SERVER%\j2ee\home\applib, or create one shared library and reference it in the oracle.bpel.common shared library declaration of the server.xml configuration file).

    Hi,

  • Permission problems with command line CVS and Java CVS App

    Greetings,
I'm part of a moderately sized website development team which recently upgraded to MacBook Pros (dual core) running OS 10.4.9. One of the primary tools we use in our day to day work is the open source concurrent versioning system (CVS). We've noticed a distressing issue running CVS on our macbook pros: there seems to be a problem with the way these new machines handle permissions on the directories/files that CVS uses to manage files.
The error occurs when the CVS application, in this case both command line CVS and GUI CVS application named SmartCVS, tries to rename a temporary file named Entries~ to its new name Entries (no ~). It looks like this:
    java.io.IOException: Could not rename file
    /Users/[USER]/Sites/[MODULE]/lib/CVS/Entries~ to
    /Users/[USER]/Sites/[MODULE]/lib/CVS/Entries
    at smartcvs.JP.a(SourceFile:125)
    at smartcvs.JP.a(SourceFile:113)
We've noticed that if we open up a get info window on the directory we're downloading, and choose "Apply to enclosed items" right when we start the download process, the issue will be resolved, presumably because the permissions are being set on the subdirectories as the download is taking place.
We've checked the permissions on the overall ~/Sites/ directory numerous times, and they always seem to be set correctly as drwxr-xr-x. It's within this folder that CVS creates a directory with the CVS module name and downloads all the contained files, so we don't see why it would be having issues completing this successfully. We also checked to ensure the GUI CVS application is running under the current user on the machine: it does.
Has anyone run into issues like this in the past? Is there more information I could provide to further clarify the problem we're having?
Thanks for any input you have!

Thanks for asking Jeff, yes one place we are seeing this error is Java application SmartCVS, though the results posted here are from a normal command line CVS checkout.

  • Database Lite and JDeveloper / ADF

    Hello,
I'm planning to create a small application which will run on mobile PC in an off-line mode, having synchronization with master DB once connected to the proper network.
The main architecture on the target PC may be :
    - Oracle Lite
    - GlassFish
    - ADF application
I downloaded JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 and the latest version of Oracle Lite (10.3.0.3).
I'm looking the tutorials but none of them are talking about the JDeveloper 11g version, they all speak about BC4J/OC4J. Since I'm new to Oracle's product I don't know these "products" (framework ?) and in the 11g version this seems to have disappeared.
Are those versions compatible with each other ?
    Will the tutorial work ?
    Regards
PS: the same thread is present on the JDeveloper forum

The main thread will be the one on JDeveloper section :)

  • WinCVS 1.3.17 and JDeveloper 9.0.3

I tried to activate source control CVS inside JDeveloper. In the tools menu I activated CVS, but I got always the message "The CVS client is not installed or not located in your system environment path". I'm working with a Windows2000 machine. WinCVS 1.3.17 is also installed. Where can I set the connect parameter for CVS ?
    Thanks.

I don't have 9.0.3 in front of me (this versio is too old for me), but have you tried looking it up in the online help?
In recent versions you create the connection in the CVS navigator (under the view menu).
Another place it might be is under the tools->preferences->versioning.

...I have a strong feeling this is a TIBCO-related issue where you're not doing the lookup the way TIBCO likes.

  • The missing ring between Designer and JDeveloper.

I'm a user of both Designer and JDeveloper and I found a difficulty in making both updated at once.
I would like to have something wich can help to map Designer table definitions to ADF entities but I still don't see anything usefull.
I hoped the integration between Desigern and JDev could help me, but it's based upon Modules and not upot tables and then is useless.
I looked for Jheadstart but it seems to have similar problems.
Is there any plan to fill the gap ?
Is there any viable soluntion already done ?
