DACF: GridControl and formatted Date

Hello,
In JDev 3.2.2 (915), GridControl cannot paint formatted Date of null value:
EmpImpl.getHiredate() = 1981-12-03
EmpImpl.getHiredate() = null
Exception occurred during event dispatching:
java.lang.NullPointerException
void javax.swing.JComponent._paintImmediately(int, int, int, int)
void javax.swing.JComponent.paintImmediately(int, int, int, int)
void javax.swing.RepaintManager.paintDirtyRegions()
void javax.swing.SystemEventQueueUtilities$ComponentWorkRequest.run()
Reproducing:
- using wizards, create ApplicationModule on SCOTT.EMP table, application and DataForm with grid;
- using Design mode, set formatterInfo for HiredateMasterCol: Format as Date, Custom "dd.MM.yyyy";
- run application, try to insert new row.
Could anybody suggest me a workaround ?
Thanks,
-Arkadi

This is a bug in 3.2. here is world around which JDev team suggested.
- //extend DafualtDateFormater(add this to your panel/frame code)
class MyDateFormatter extends DefaultDateFormatter{
String myDate="";
public String format(String fmtStr, Object rawData){
try{
myDate= ( (rawData == null ) ? "" : super.format(fmtStr,rawData));
}catch(Exception ex){
return myDate;
- //instantiate new DateFormater(add this at top of jbInit())
MyDateFormatter newDateFmr = new MyDateFormatter ();
DefaultFormatManager mgr = DefaultFormatManager.getInstance();
mgr.replaceFormatter(DefaultFormatManager.DATE_VALUE, newDateFmr);

  • SQL Loader and formatting dates

    I've got dates formatted like so: 2012-05-10T17:04:51-08:00
    How can I get SQL Loader to load these into a Date column??
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply-
    SQL Loader is running on Win, Oracle 11 on Linux
    The format is standard UTC
    YYYY-MM-DDTHH24:MI:SS±HH:MM Where the ±HH:MM refers to time zone offset from GMT. The "T" is just a separator between date and time (and is always "T").
    I looked at your references, and tried a few dozen variants without success.
    Most of my attempts have been using something similar to this
    "YYYY-MM-DDTHH24:MI:SSTZH:TZM"
    or this:
    "YYYY-MM-DD'T'HH24:MI:SSTZH:TZM"
    or this:
    'YYYY-MM-DD"T"HH24:MI:SSTZH:TZM'
    Thanks

    why?

    yes, I restarted presentation server and oc4j.
    but has no effects.
    date prompt has strange behaviour...
    for Administrator user
    in English locale
    default format YYYY-MM-DD
    after change date by calendar, it has M.D.YYYY format
    in my locale
    default format YYYY-MM-DD

  • Problem formatting date.

    I have a problem in validating and formatting date input by the user. The user input format is dd-MM-yyyy. I have to validate it and format it to dd-MMM-yy format. I tried the below code.
    import java.util.*;
    import java.text.*;
    public class DateFormatter{
         public static void main(String[] args){
              String str = "24-12-20gg";
              SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MM-yyyy");
              try{
                   sdf.setLenient(false);
                   Date date = sdf.parse(str);
                   System.out.println(date);
              }catch(Exception e){
                   System.out.println(e);
    The above code parses the date as - Tue Dec 24 00:00:00 IST 0020 . I want to throw an exception if it is not a date and is not of four digits. Any solution ?.

    Why not Java support such things. This will help to avoid reinventing the
    wheel.Java does support such things; there is no need to reinvent the wheel. Example:
    import java.text.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class DateParseDemo {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            new DateParseDemo().go();
        public void go() {
            String format = "dd-MM-yyyy";
            String goodDate = "24-12-2003";
            String badDate = "Dec 24, 2004";
            if (dateIsValid(format, goodDate)) {
                System.out.println("\"" + goodDate + "\" is valid!");
            if (!dateIsValid(format, badDate)) {
                System.out.println("\"" + badDate + "\" is NOT valid!");
        public boolean dateIsValid(String format, String date) {
            boolean valid = false;
            DateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat(format);
            Date parsed;
            try {
                parsed = df.parse(date);
                valid = true;
            } catch (ParseException pe) {
                // log exception
            return valid;

    Recently because of some issues in windows 7 installation from windows 8 installed OS. it was giving as the disc is dynamic windows can not be installed on it. so at last after struggling hard no other solution i partitioned and formatted my whole
    drive so all data gone included the drive which was encrypted by bit lockers.
    For recovery i used many software such as ontrack easy recover, get data back, recovery my files professional edition but still i couldnt able to recover my data from that drive. then i found some suggestion Using CMD to decrypt my data first
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee523219(WS.10).aspx
    where it shows it successfully decrypt my data at that moment my drives were in RAW format excluding on which windows is installed and then in CMD i check Chdsk which also shows no problem found. but now problem is still i coudnt able to recover
    my data then i format the drive D and again tried to recover data using above software after decryption still no result.
    Now i need assistance how i can recover my encrypted drive as it was partitioned and also formatted but decrypted also as i have its recovery key too. thanks

    Hi ,
    I am afraid that we cannot get the data back if the drive has been formatted even if use the
    BitLocker Repair Tool.
    You’d better contact your local data recovery center to try to get data back.

  • Line graph date sorting and formatting

    Hi Gurus
    We've recently upgraded to 11.1.1.7 and noticed that our Publisher line charts with date on the x-axis are no longer sorting correctly i.e. May comes before March. The reason for this is because in <11.1.1.7 we have a formatted date mask (to_char) in our data model but sorted by the underlying canonical date which worked. Now in 11.1.1.7 it is no longer sorting by the data model sort but by the formatted date string therefore numeric values of 30 April sorted after 1 May.
    We have tried a number of options to resolve:
    1. using the canonical date and sorting on that corrects the sort problem but the default formatting used in long YYYY-MM-DDT00:00:00-00:00 and not readable as our chart is showing daily totals. Changing to time-series chart can allow you to format the date but see problem 2 next...
    2. Time series = yes doesn't display the chart if we have a number of entities in our series i.e. multiple lines and the interactive viewer shows a red error icon. I think this may be due to the fact that our date range is not continuous ie we have a sparse data set.
    3. Workaround we used was a bar chart (our users preference is line charts) with time series = false but the date format is still long.
    Any advice / suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks
    Nick.

    for #1: numbers does what is called a "stable" sort. Meaning that the previous sort order is preserved. i.e. do your sort in reverse order. Amount, then name, then date. Just did it with sample data and it was perfect. It keeps them in the original order, so if there is a match in name after you sort, you should see the amount still in the proper order.
    #2: What in your formula isnt working? I just made a formula that did math on the columns to the left, sorted and it worked. Sorted by static data columns and the formula column. I know it was broken originally, years ago, but it seems to be working correctly now, at least in my quick test. You might have an issue if you are using formulas that refer to data on other rows or tables.
    #3: yeah formatting can be a pain. But it is easier to do in the desktop program. No, you cannot get it for windows, sorry. If the formatting the only thing you need to do on the desktop side, then i dont see much tying you to it. I do 90% or more on the ipad and iphone now.

  • 01.01.0000 date parse and format

    Could somebody explain is wrong here?
    SimpleDateFormat frm = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyyMMddHHmmss");  // formatter
    frm.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("UTC"));   // UTC time zone
    // --- No problem for the next code ---
    String inDate = "19700101000000";  // 01.01.1970 input date
    long stamp;
    try {
        stamp = frm.parse(inDate).getTime();   // input date in long
    } catch (ParseException ex) {
        System.out.println("Interruption");
        stamp = 0;
    String outDate = frm.format(stamp);  // output date
    System.out.println("inDate=>" + inDate + "_longDate=>" + stamp + "_outDate=>" + outDate);
    // --- No idea why next code is working wrongly ---
    inDate = "00000101000000";  // 01.01.0000 input date
    try {
        stamp = frm.parse(inDate).getTime();   // input date in long
    } catch (ParseException ex) {
        System.out.println("Interruption");
        stamp = 0;
    outDate = frm.format(stamp);  // output date
    System.out.println("inDate=>" + inDate + "_longDate=>" + stamp + "_outDate=>" + outDate);I try to parse and format the time stamp 01.01.0000 00:00:00. On the finish I have 01.01.0001 instead of the correct 01.01.0000
    inDate=>19700101000000_longDate=>0_outDate=>19700101000000
    inDate=>00000101000000_longDate=>-62167392000000_outDate=>00010101000000

    You are calling format with a long parameter. The only format that matches that signature that I can see would be Format.format(Object) assuming autoboxing is changing the long to a Long.
    Format.format(Object) eventually calls DateFormat.format(Object, StringBuffer, FieldPosition). I have never used this method so I am not sure what it does.
    Was your intention to actually call this method?
    See the following example:
    System.out.println("Test 1: " + frm.format(new Long(0l), new StringBuffer(), new FieldPosition(0)));
    System.out.println("Test 2: " + frm.format(new Long(-62167392000000l), new StringBuffer(), new FieldPosition(0)));

  • SQL*LOADER and date formatted data

    Hi there, I don't want to load complex things in my table - just a simple date....
    The control file is:
    load data
    infile 'c:\data\mydata.csv'
    into table test_table
    fields terminated by "," optionally enclosed by '"'
    ( sampledate, name )
    The mydata.csv file is:

    31-12-2003, Test2
    However this format is not being accepted by the database... I tried other combinations of date (eg, 30122003, 20-DEC-2003, 30/12/2004, etc...) but always had a 'data error'
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Example:

    This control file loads the same table as in case 2, but it loads three additional columns (hiredate, projno, and loadseq). The demonstration table emp does not have columns projno and loadseq. To test this control file, add these columns to the emp table with the command:

    The data is in a different format than in case 2. Some data is enclosed in quotation marks, some is set off by commas, and the values for deptno and projno are separated by a colon.

    Yes.  The extent size of SQL Server data files, and the max log block size have not changed with the new versions, so the guidance should remain the same.

  • Form Letter Report - How To Format Date and Number Hidden Fields

    Hi
    Is it possible to format date and number fields in a form letter report. This case were Paper Design shows fields as $<hire_date>. The examples in reference book only print character values which do not require formatting. I cannot determine how to achieve this. Cannot select fields from Paper Design view as per other report styles where can apply formatting. Do I have to perform formatting in the query to return date as string in format I wish for? This is not case for other report styles.
    Thanks

    you could add a field, set the source of the field to hire_date (assuming hire_date is a column in the data model), and put a format mask of whatever format you want. then set visible to No.
    then instead of &<hire_date> you can instead type &<name of your new field>.

  • When attempting to format region and set date and time the busy icon appears and seems to stay like this?

    when attempting to format region and set date and time the busy icon appears and seems to stay like this?

    Click on DU's Partition tab when you have the raw drive name selected, then set it to one partition, Mac OS Extended. If it crashes or freezes, it is finding a bad block and can't write.
    In any event, if you want to use the drive, and have not zeroed it before, you should now.
    Click on Erase -> Security Options -> Zero out data. Still with the full drive selected and not any partition(s).
    Then repartition the drive if needed.
    Boot from the DVD if that doesn't work. And no, TTPro has never mapped out bad blocks let alone create partitions.
    Disk Utility in 10.4.8 is quite good, excellent in fact. No need for an alternative.
    Your eMac drive may need to touch of Disk Utility itself. FSCK from the command line, clear the caches with Applejack along with check for corrupt plists. Between Disk Utilty and Applejack (free/shareware) never had to use TechTool Pro - or at least there weren't any errors after those two got done. But if you want a good 3rd party, pick up Disk Warrior 4.

    Currently EventDateTime and EventMessageTransmissionDateTime are type XSDDATETIME_Z and these are converted to proper dates and times. We will be changing these fields to a STRING instead of XSDDATETIME_Z. The reason for this is to make the field more versatile. The customer would be receiving dates with Zulu (2009-09-23T12:00:00Z), with offsets (2009-09-23T12:00:00+10:00/-10:00) and just local timestamp (2009-09-23T12:00:00). With this, we need to make the date fields as string
    to be able to accept the various date formats (esp. the local timestamp).
    I am looking for a standard function module or method that will convert the xml string to a proper date and time abap format.
    Would appreciate anyone's help!
    Thanks.

    Hi Eunice
    Use the FM 'SMUM_XML_PARSE'
    for more info
    [Convert XML string to ABAP|XML String to ABAP or GUI]
    hope it helps you.

  • Start and End Dates format in Opaerator

    Hi all,
    I would like to know if it's normal that in Operator milliseconds are not part of the Sart and End Dates ?
    In Operator I only can see interfaces execution time as 0 or 1 second when I would like to have more precision.
    Any idea ???
    Columns format is May 12, 2010 03:10:52*.000* PM
    Milliseconds are always 000
    Thanks in advance
    Brice

    Hi,
    Sorry, we do not support a matrix-question field.   Please try the multilines text field (where your participant can enter multiple lines in the input text box) and see if it works for you.
    Thanks,
    Lucia
