Data column number formatting in Excel

Can I overwrite the formating for the data columns in excel?
For calculation purposes I need 2 decimal places defined for the data columns but when I display I dont want to see the decimals, I want to see the rounded number. But I cannot format this on the excel. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Hema

Hi,
In the definition of your planquery, go to the properties of your key figure and assign the number of desired figures behind the comma.
-> in your workbook if you click on your cell, you will see the number of figures behind the comma according to your info-object in the formula bar, but in the layout itself it is rounded according to your query settings

• Converting Date Column to format MM/DD/YYYY in RPD

Hi all,
I have a requirement like converting a Date column to format MM/DD/YYYY in RPD. Any help as we are not supposed to use the BI Answers Data Fomat for showing this format.
Thankyou,

Hi Saichand,
I need the resulting column in DATE format only. The solution which you specified converts the datatype to character. Is there anyway to convert the format but not the datatype.

• A question about date and number formats

Hi,
I have to change date and number formats from USA to UK format. Is the only place I must do that in user settings (SU01) ? I mean, is this enough or are there any other customizing settings, in FI for example ?
Thanks in advance,
Paulo

I tested very much and the only place we should set it is on user settings

• Date column with format mask 'hh12:mi pm'

let's say the user input record as shown below :
trip At01 At02
1 9:30 AM 12:30 PM
At02 & At02 are date column with format mask 'hh12:mi pm'. When the user input 9:30 and tab to next item, the column will display as 09:30 AM. Then when user input 12:30 at AT02, it will display as 12:30 PM.
Anyway, if I enter 1:00 at AT02, it will display as 01:00 AM. Actually I want to display as 01:00 PM. I still can go back to the field to edit it manually but is there a way that I can do as mentioned ?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Shu Wen

You are going to have to write your own validation logic to do this - You'll have to decide what point AM shoudl be defaulted and what point PM should be used. I don't think that there is a format mask that provides this functionality.

• Number formats in Excel

I have an rtf template for AP Trial Balance. All numeric columns are formatted - e.g.
<?format-number(SRC_ACCTD_ROUNDED_REM_AMT,'##,##0.00')?> OR
<?format-number(sum(current-group()/SRC_ACCTD_ROUNDED_REM_AMT),'##,##0.00')?>
When outputting to rtf, number formats look great, but when outputting to Excel, they are inconsistent - sometimes formatted properly, sometimes not. I get a string of numbers like:
-200
-180
-94,500.00
-445.5
-1,629.00
etc.
Is there a way to get Excel to present numbers properly?

Yes, but they will not be numbers for Excel any longer. Try doing this:
="<?format-number(SRC_ACCTD_ROUNDED_REM_AMT,'##,##0.00')?>"

• Export of DATE column not recognized by Excel

SQL DEVELOPER version 2.1.1.64
just installed.
When I export a table to Desktop as XLS or CSV, all the DATE columns show this format:
11-MAY-09 12.00.00.000000000 AM
MicroSoft Excel will not convert this to standard format: MM/DD/YYYY
I changed NLS setting in SQL DEVELOPER for Date and TimeStamp, Excel still does not convert.
Any suggestions?

(1)
export from the context menu on the table's navigator tree node
(2)
export from worksheet result set
(3)
export from table Data tab
All three exports work.
Each DATE column in the export file shows the TIMESTAMP value.
Unfortunately, after the export, when I apply the DATE format inside of Excel using "Format Cells",
the data in the Excel column does not change to MM/DD/YYYY
WHY DOES APPLYING FORMAT INSIDE EXCEL FAIL?
THIS IS MY QUESTION.
(4)
copy the result set from SQL*Developer (CTRL-A, then CTRL-C or CTRL-SHIFT-C) and paste in Excel.
The DATE column shows value in MM/DD/YYYY format and I can change the format.
This works but not for large amounts of data.

• Number Formatting in Excel using HSSF POI

Hi,
I am downloading some data into the Excel file using hssf poi and I do my number formatting(either rounded, unrounded or general etc.) in java. The problem is that after the Excel file is created, the values in it behave like text though it shows the format as number. I am not able to plot any graphs or do any mathematical calculations using it. I need to convert it using "=VALUE(data)" before I do so.Is there anyway I can rectify this in the API itself?
Your suggestions will be very helpful.
Thanks.

• Applying date and number format mask

I have specified a date format for an attribute and a number format for another attribute of an entity object using Entity Object Editor - Control hints for the attributes.
The date format is:
Format type: Simple Date
Format: dd.MM.yyyy
The number format is:
Format type: Currency
Format: 0,000.00 km
When using <c:out value="${bindings.MyDate}"></c:out> the format mask for the date is applied and it looks good, but when using
<c:forEach var="Row" items="...">
<c:out value="${Row.MyDate}"></c:out>
</c:forEach>
the format mask is not applied.
When it comes to the number format it is not applied no matter what I use.
I have tried setting the format for the view object attributes as well but the result is the same. How do I make this work?

Can it have something to do with <html:form> ? Since it works using <c:out value="${bindings.MyDate}"></c:out> inside a html:form.

Dear Experts,
Good day!
Who can help me that to export data in SAP by KE30 Transaction Code? We planed to do some things on browser using SAP GUI for HTML and ITS 6.20 in SAP R/3 640. Now, our end-user occur one problem that they need outgoing the data wanted through browser from SAP(Triggered by KE30). In the SAP GUI for Windows, they can do it to export data into specified format (as XXL), but that for HTML can't done. The problem had a message shown below: The presentation server does not function in Windows. Which other way to resolve this? Please tell us, thank you!

The XXL export is not supported by Sapgui for HTML(Webgui) via Office Integration. See note: 512068 Office integration and SAP GUI for HTML

• Pulling my hair out: Change format from date to number format?

I was recently sent a formatted Excel spreadsheet in which to enter my own numbers. The format is date and duration, but the last column is the total number of hours and minutes converted into decimals, e.g. 3hrs. 30mins. = 3.5 hours.
It was going fine until last night when I tried to enter 5:73 as a number, not a duration, but Numbers keeps changing it to 6m 13s. I've tried changing the format from Duration to Number but although the cell will say 0:00, when I enter the number 5:73 it automatically switches back.
The weird thing is that it's only happening on about one-third of the cells. I even cut-and-pasted a section of the spreadsheet that didn't have this problem, cleared the contents and then typed my info into the same lines and rows and it's still doing the same thing.
How can I see the hidden formatting in Numbers cells to see if I can figure what needs to be changed?
Thank you.

Hi Jane,
dragging on bottom right corner but all that does is increase the range, not the size of the actual cell itself.
Hover the cursor over the right of a column (Column B in this example) until the cursor becomes a cross with arrows pointing East and West. Drag right to widen the column.
Or use the Format Panel > Table > Row & Column Size
(You may have to drag the panel up to see this)
I really miss in Numbers is being able to edit cell contents in a formula bar.
Here is the formula bar in Numbers 3.2 after clicking twice on a cell
The formula bar is moveable. Hover over the left of the bar until the cursor changes to a 'hand' and you can drag it.
Resize the formula bar by hovering over any edge and drag
Tricky with a trackpad, easier with a mouse .
Also, the cell contents appear at bottom left of the Numbers window
If you prefer Numbers 2.3, I agree it is much more user-friendly version.
Regards,
Ian.

• Number formatting in excel

Hi,
I have created a report in which I have few amount columns. When I run the report in pdf format the numbers display properly with 2 decimal places (like 105 displays like 105.00) but when I run the report in excel output then the formating is gone. Client wants to have 2 decimal places for those amount columns even in excel output.
I have tried using <fo:bidi-override direction="ltr" unicode-bidi="bidi-override"><?format-number:CVALUE;'999999D99'?></fo:bidi-override> but this does not solve my problem completely. It shows the values correctly in excel but then I am not able to do any calculation on those columns, looks like it converts them to text values.
Please let me know if you wants the rtf template and xml data file.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Regards
Hitesh

Hi ,
If you use the <fo:bidi-override direction="ltr" unicode-bidi="bidi-override"><?format-number:CVALUE;'999999D99'?></fo:bidi-override>
the column will not used for the calculation...it will take some special character...
in the excel output..if copy that column any one celll it will append the ?100? like this....thats the problem with bidi-override
lot of post are there for this issue....no solution yet...
Thanks,

• Number format for excel

Hello,
my problem is to convert my numbers into a correct excel format. the numbers are saved in a spreadsheet file and with an editor it looks like this:
9,723197E+0
8,229011E-1
When I filled a Excel file with this data it looks like:
9723,00 and 0,823.
I tried different things to solve the problem but nothing helped.
Can anyone help me?

Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hello Markus,
I have two things you could try - both helped for me. But I strongly recommand to make a Cope of the VI you will have to change, in case that you need the original functionality.
1) Open ...\national instruments\LabVIEW 8.x\vi.lib\addons\_office\_excelsub.llb\Excel_Insert_Table.vi
2) Delete the two property-nodes Range>>Value so that the VI looks like the attached screenshot "Excel I.jpg"
3) You can additional place a "Frag/Exp string to number"-Function in the VI (see screenshot "Excel II.jpg")
But I repeat, please make a copy of that VI and save it to a different folder before you make these changes.
Regards
Johannes
